Guest Reviews
- sandra (9/5): - Lovely, immaculately clean, characterful apartment with a beautiful view of the Abbey. Very central. Friendly hosts. Had a wonderful weekend ☺️
- Noreen (9/5): A great place to choose to stay in Selby - Location, lovely view for breakfast. Spotlessly clean. Everything we needed gir a couple of nights stay.
- Saomaster05 (9/5): - It's a beautiful property, everything is so tastefully done very clean ,only problem for us was the bath my hubby is 6ft so not so good for him 😊I loved it though ,our stay was great ,thanks to our hosts 🥰xx
- Mark (9/5): - Exceptionally clean and tidy, beautifully decorated and kitted out. Excellent location close to the train station and the town centre but very peaceful. Great view of the abbey, especially when it's lit up at night. Climbing all the stairs to the top, but that can't be helped.
- David (8/5): - It was clean and fitted out with a stylish decor. There was a lot of stairs but the apartment and view made up for the slight inconvenience.
- Gandalf Grey (9/5): - The apartment was compact and very well stocked. The kitchen was very well equipped, a very comfortable bed and a small seating area. The view from the kitchen window gave a good look at the Abbey. Situated close to the centre of Selby and all it's amenities. Plenty of restaurants, cafes and pubs. A good market on Monday, plenty of vegetables and fruit. The parking place was also a plus. The only possible problem for some people would be the amount of stairs to get to the top floor.
In the description there is mention of three flights of stairs. However, there were 50 steps in total to reach the apartment. The width of the steps is very narrow and great care is needed. The final flight of stairs is accessed, in a very restricted area, through a locked door.
This is all very challenging when also carrying luggage.
- Edwards (9/5): - Everything about it location spot on cleanliness.
- Catherine (10/5): A little gem - Spotless clean
Location
Very comfortable
- Mark (10/5): Great central Selby stay - Town centre immediately opposite Abbey, couldn’t be anymore central. Very well equipped place and good quality appliances Nothing to dislike, if anything the only negative if I had to find one was the stairs, it would limit this property to people with a serious walking disability
- Angela (10/5): - The accommodation was beautiful very clean great location had everything and more can't fault it. Only thing is the stairs coming into the accommodation can he a bit of a struggle but the accommodation certainly makes up for it. Very happy 😊
- JUDY (10/5): - Was a lovely place very clean and tidy and warm and inviting The stairs you have to go up quite alot of stairs to get there
- Gray (8/5): - Amazing view of the Abbey itself, very comfortable large double bed, lovely room clean, cozy and modern bathroom and kitchenette, everything in it that we required really. Surprisingly it was peaceful and relaxing, even the Abbey bells although you could just here them, were very soothing.
It was great we had our own free parking space. Lots of places to eat, cafes, excellent bakeries too etc. York city is only around 30 mins away by car and there is a regular train service too.
Would definitely return in the future.
Hosts were very helpful and contacted us via email but gave us their contact details pre our trip with relevant info as well.
Just to be aware, there are stairs up into the apartment which was no problem for us and we are in our 60 's.
- PAULA (9/5): - Everything you could possibly need and lots of added little extras you maybe wouldn't normally expect can be found in this apartment. Beautifully clean, linen all smelled gorgeous! Great view of the Abbey. Good location for town and all the facilities it offers. Not particularly dislikes but parking is quite tight if you have a bigger car. The steps leading upto the apartment are quite steep.
- Pamela (4/5): Shame it doesn't live up to t potential - Location was great. Property was immaculately clean and well equipped. Good use of space Lack of communication: we were not told before booking that there were four flights of stairs and no lift; no instructions about access to the property (round the back, thro' the car park) nor the location of the key safe.
No information about what to do in case of fire - no alternative exit (is this legal?). No directions about adjusting heating nor about wifi settings.
There was no TV control and when we contacted the owner were told "it is there somewhere". Not that we could find.
I struggled with several things - at 80 my hands are not strong - getting the key safe open, opening the main building door.
Major issue, tho, and the reason we will never go again (we visit Selby several times a year) is the door to the apartment. It is (necessarily) a very heavy door but it opens outwards on to a fairly narrow staircase. Trying to open and hold the door and get through it, with bags, was VERY difficult and , I think, dangerous. It would be easy to fall down the stairs.
Had I been travelling alone - as I often am - I simple could not have coped

- Lauren (8/5): Perfect! Would come again - We loved the whole set up of the apartment. Really felt like a home from home, and the bathroom is beautiful Only problem is 3 lots of stairs but we managed as we are fit enough, had everything we needed apart from washing up liquid to wash our own pots
- Fiona (8/5): -
- Victoria (9/5): Beautiful apartment a real home from home - Lovely apartment and in a convenient location. It's nice and cosy but with everything you need. A home from home. The parking isn't great. The space was blocked by other vehicles several times during our stay. There is a handy car park at the bottom of the street though.
- Gary (9/5): Very happy with Abbey View and will book again when I come to Selby. - Very central, lovely view of the Abbey. Comfy bed and well-equipped for cooking and washing. The host, Tetyana, was very friendly, helpful and responsive. The flat and the building have an appealing old world charm but with modern facilities. There was an issue with water pressure, which Tetyana did her best to resolve. Other than that, everything was great.
- Juliah (10/5): - Lovely, clean apartment with great facilities, near to amenities. No lift, but was informed beforehand. Stairs didn't bother us but something to consider.
- John (9/5): Great location in town and wonderful view of the abbey! - Abbey view is very comfortable, immaculately clean and extremely well equipped for a small property. The layout has been very well thought out. The property is a short walk from the shops and amenities and as we were going to a concert in the abbey, the location couldn’t have been more perfect. Lovely welcome card and other nice touches left for us by the owners.
The water pressure was low but it wasn’t a problem for us.
Many thanks for a very pleasant two nights stay.
- Nigel (9/5): -
- Charlotte (10/5): Great location in a great little town Selby.on the train station doorstep lovely restaurants Iwould highly recommend Ji - It was clean and beautifully decorated. Everything you need was there and more. It was a home from home. Nothing we didn’t like. I loved the roll top bath and did use it but it wasn’t for my husband and some people may struggle. A shower would have been just as nice. But this honestly is the only thing I would comment on as everything was perfect.
- Christiana (10/5): -
- Lucinda (10/5): -
- Ralph (10/5): Lovely accommodation with owners who care about those that use the facilities - It was close to our final destination Nothing
- Phillip (8/5): - Very clean , tidy and well equipped Lots of stairs but don’t let that put you off.
- Lynda (9/5): Beautiful flat in a perfect location overlooking the abbey. - Spotlessly clean. Beautiful flat with very tasteful decor. Very well equipped. A blind at the top of the stairs would be good as the lights from the abbey/street shine directly through the glass door into the bedroom which is very bright for sleeping.
- Helen (8/5): Very comfortable, well equipped Great location - Lovely little unit. Well equipped. Walking distance to Shops and Pubs. Host let me know about stairs and offered to let us cancel. Not so much ‘didn’t like’ but the stairs were interesting
- Brunyee (10/5): Well fitted out apartment. - We particular enjoyed the view across to the abbey and the fact that there was a choice of good restaurants within a few minutes walk of the flat.
- HB (9/5): Lovely flat right in the middle of town, really enjoyed our visit - Very comfortable flat, well located but quiet, really enjoyed staying here The flat is at the top of the stairs and the entry door opens towards you on the top step which is awkward when you have luggage. The front door was also quite hard to open.
- Vishy (9/5): Clean, peaceful, house with all amenities. 50 narrow stairs to climb. - Location is good. The house is clean and peaceful. It had all the amenities including washing machine. Host was kind enough provide a fan that helped us dry the clothes quickly. The 50 narrow steps from road to house is pretty tough so we decided just to carry what is needed for a day rather than our whole suitcase which would have been super difficult. We did not readily find the WiFi info and had to ask the host. I wish it was mentioned some where in the app or in the welcome note. Also a normal shower would be much more practical for a typical guest than a bath.
- Joyce (1/5): Bad - Very little The access to the rooms was via an exceptionally narrow & steep stairway. I was unable to carry my suitcase up the stairs due to the steepness & the amount of stairs. There is no shower. The contact person was rude & refused to refund my money. It is a fire trap. Booking.com needs to check out this property as the information is not correct on the Web site. Please arrange a refund!!!!!
- Stephanie (10/5): Exceptional - Lovely little apartment cozy and comfortable with everything we needed. The stairs, they are quite the workout.
- Darrel (9/5): Superb -
- Kolawole (10/5): Exceptional -
- Convo (7/5): Good - The bath was awesome the views the whole appartment was gorgeous The t.v was bot on the small side I would say and the bed wasn't the most comfortable I honestly think if the bed was bit bigger and bit more comfortable yous could charge good bit more but overall we loved it.
- Cheryl (9/5): Quaint property - It was very well furnished, clean, with an excellent bathroom & a superbly stocked kitchen. A bonus was a lovely welcome card & gift.
The owners have made a real effort with the decor, really is a beautifully presented apartment. No issue for us but helpful to know the stairs leading up to the apartment are rather steep.
- Kieran (10/5): Exceptional - the whole place was clean and tidy beautiful place
- David (10/5): Exceptional -
- Gary (10/5): Exceptional -
- Hardy (10/5): We had a wonderful stay and I was very happy with the condition as well as the location. - Good location, spotlessly clean, everything we needed was catered for. There were no issues with the property but would not be any good to a disabled person.
- Ann-marie (10/5): A comfortable overnight stay in a very convenient location. - Excellent location with beautiful views of the Abbey. Quality furnishings in the apartment and gorgeous bathroom. The hosts provided a lovely welcome pack. Overall, a very comfortable stay.
- Michele (10/5): Exceptional -
- Gill (10/5): A fabulous hidden gem apartment in the heart of Selby. - Abbey view is a fabulous little hidden gem in the heart of Selby & behind Selby Abbey. The apartment isn't disabled friendly but it's ideal for couples. It had everything we needed & was really clean , spotless in fact. We loved the bathroom & the freestanding bath. Ideal for our 1st anniversary. This apartment had an oldy worldly look & feel to it but with a modern twist. The bed was so unique too. The kitchen simply had everything you need if you don't want to venture out & it was simply home from home. We loved it :) The hosts also supplied on request a 1st anniversary balloon trio which I only thought to ask about a week beforehand as a personal touch to our stay which was really fabulous for our stay & we had an added extra of a small bottle of wine which was an added touch from them to us.
Highly commendable! ( We were charged for the balloons I should add & we didn't expect anything else :) ) The 3 flights of stairs which we were not aware of but we didn't mind as it was good exercise & kept us fit. Just a shame it isn't disabled friendly for everyone to use it.
- Barrie (10/5): Exceptional - Layed out well and spotless very well equipped made for a very comfortable stay
- Veronica (10/5): Apartment was perfect for what we wanted with an excellent location. - The location was perfect . Parking was included.
The extra touches were appreciated which included chocolate, sweets and a bottle of red wine.
Excellent facilities. Looking at the Abbey while having breakfast was lovely. 3 flights of stairs but we knew about them before we arrived.
- Karl (9/5): Superb -
- Graham (9/5): Superb -
- Tasnim (10/5): Exceptional -
- Lindsay (10/5): Exceptional - Beautiful, comfortable, stylish and welcoming loft conversion. Felt immediately at home, slept peacefully. So many thoughtful touches. High quality furnishing, luxurious bedding, Really good communication throughout from generous and responsive hosts. Nothing to dislike, immediate response to one problem which was not the fault of the hosts. The property is not suitable for anyone who struggles with mobility, but if you can manage stairs, I heartily recommend staying here.
- Dinah (8/5): Lovely flat very convenient for visiting Selby and helpful hosts - Lovely, very clean flat with beautiful view of the Abbey. The bathroom is super, kitchen well equipped and bed very comfortable. The steep stairs would be difficult for anyone with mobility problems. Parking is very tight! The heating wasn't on when we arrived so the flat was cold but I rang Graham and he quickly
came to put it right .
- Paul (9/5): Abbey View Gem - Location opposite the Abbey
Beautiful loft conversion
Luxury bed and bathroom
Kitchen facilities
Welcome pack Car parking tight
Noisy TRV on bedroom radiator
Low water pressure to bath
- Francis (8/5): Lovely flat within spitting distance of the abbey. - Would have liked a shower but only a spray with the bath and pressure a bit low. Probably impossible as ceiling is low!
- Rachael (10/5): Exceptional - The bath was really big and perfect for soaking and reading my book! The fact it had an actual coffee machine for real coffee and not just a kettle or pod machine was an added bonus. The view overlooking the Abbey was also beautiful. The overall cleanliness was impeccable, and the added touches such as the welcome note and wine just added to the overall welcome feeling. Honestly it would be nit picking, there really was nothing I could fault. Maybe a larger TV, and how low the ceilings where in certain
places. But the ceilings are nothing that can be changed.
- Gowtham (8/5): Very good - The bathroom doesn't have a Standing shower
- Michael (10/5): Exceptional - Everything Nothing
- Leon (9/5): Superb -
- Munir (10/5): The best place to stay in Selby. - Extremely clean, comfortable and tidy. Very helpful staff.
- Mrs (10/5): Lovely short stay - Such a sweet flat. The decor is beautiful. Loved the Christmas tree 🎄
- Stephen (10/5): A wonderful relaxing place to return to after a stressful day's work! - Wonderful location (accessed from Park Row, the street behind The Crescent) with spectacular view of the floodlit Abbey. Two big supermarkets within ten-minute walk. Apartment absolutely spotless, quiet, and furnished with real attention to detail and character. Kitchen supplied with all the necessary equipment for self-catering and laundry, and lots of nice touches (mini bottle of wine, chocolate bars, fantastic coffee machine and selection of teas, surprise bowl of sweets in the crockery cupboard, handwritten welcome card). Superfast and reliable wifi. I've stayed in apartments half as nice as this that cost twice as much, and if I thought I'd be going back to Selby soon, I'd be keeping it a secret. Hosts were fantastic - communication excellent, and small hitches with the electrics and heating were sorted out within an hour of notification (even at 7 in the morning). VERY highly recommended indeed. It's an incredible bargain for the rate charged. The only possible hitch could be the stairs, if those present a challenge to anyone booking - otherwise I can't fault it. Nothing.
- Sarah (7/5): Lovely small flat, with a great view, but difficult to find and lots if stairs. - The flat was very well looked after, modern and clean. The bathroom was lovely. There was parking at the accommodation. Kitchen was very well equipped. It was very difficult to find, the directions didn't match the location.
The entrance hall was not very appealing and there were a great deal of stairs to get to the flat. The ones up to the flat felt very unsafe.
Unfortunately the heating made an awful noise and we had to turn it off, which left it very cold as we stayed in November and there was snow. After contacting the owners, they said they knew about it and that the radiators needed bleeding, so was suprised they hadn't done that before we stayed.
- Thomas (10/5): Exceptional - The view is to die for, the bedroom was snug and the kitchen well appointed. The slipper bath is a delightful luxury.
The boiler was off in the morning but the owner came around to fix it and gave us a late checkout to finish bathing.
- Alexander (7/5): Roof level flat in central Selby. - The flat was tastefully furnished. We particularly liked the personal touches such as cookbooks etc left in place. The small bottle of wine as a welcome was much appreciated! The location is excellent for a trip either to Selby or into York. The view over the abbey was very nice. It's a minor issue but although parking is provided it's a very tight space. In fairness we have a fairly large car.
- Michael (10/5): Cosy little stay with a gorgeous view of Selby's historic Abbey. - Very well laid out property very central to Selby town centre. Accomodation included a comfy double bed, a nice sofa with a small wall mounted TV that could be pivoted for a good viewing angle from the Sofa or the Bed. Then there is a well equipped kitchen area with oven, grill, full hob, microwave, kettle, toaster and coffee maker and a charming little breakfast bar overlooking the Abbey.
The most impressive part of the apartment though is the stunning Victorian style bathroom with a free standing tub/shower. Pictures don't do justice for just how nicely decorated this room is.
Nice welcome with a glass of wine on the coffee table and teas/coffees in the kitchen included. Dedicated parking space just outside the property and off the main road with key collection being at the entrance to the apartment. Had a very pleasant stay and hope to come back again in the future. Nothing they can do, but if you do have mobility issues, bare in mind that it is an attic/loft conversion of a building and the only access to the apartment is up several flights of stairs. Just something to be aware of before booking.
- Gregory (6/5): Lovely place shame about the area and the other stuff - Lovely modern clean little gestures they left for us which was nice touch The stairs an d hallway and the door to get in
The entrance is not very welcoming and lots of stairs to climb had to mess with the door lock to get in
- Lee-anne (10/5): Lovely warming welcome with everything you need at your fingertips! - What a treasure of a find, the apartment was spotless and home from home feel. The bathroom is stunning!! Nothing!
- Andrea (10/5): Little gem. Super clean and comfy with everything you need - Great little place -very quiet and spotlessly clean. The bed was super comfy and the bath luxurious. Great communication from the owners. Nothing it was all great
- James (10/5): No hassle no pressure lovely time - Very clean and well set out, everything is there that you will need, views of the Abbey and close to all amenities this diamond of a place was a 10 out of 10 from me and Cheryl. The bathroom was exceptional but the whole property was so well presented overall
- Roger (9/5): Superb - Fantastic facilities and beautifully furnished The stairs to reach th flat
- Amy (10/5): Good place to stay - Located central to the town with views of the abbey. The apartment was very clean and comfortable with everything you would need. Owners were really helpful. Not an issue for us but there are a lot of stairs, so for anyone with poor mobility it may not be suitable. Car park is tight if you have a larger car.
- Taffybach (10/5): Top notch apartment with great view of the abbey - A fantastic self contained apartment with a lovely view of the church.
The owners are extremely helpful and have used top quality items throughout the well equipped apartment.
I think we are one of the first to use the property but we will be going back and I'm sure it will not take long for the owners to notch up a few five star ratings. Nothing - all was great. Even better than we expected.
