Guest Reviews
- Khijendra (8/5): -
- Rathindra (10/5): - Everyone, everything related with this homestay. Steps are there for entry and exit.
- Mrinal Kanti (1/5): I am totally disappointed with my stay at Kalimpong Sunrise Inn Homestay. - 1.The location was good.
2. The size of the room was also good
3. The terrace in the top floor was good. 1. The price for the room was high for the facilities provided. The furnitures kept in the room were very old (photograph of the cot is enclosed).
2. Complimentary breakfast did not have any specific menu. It was very basic. Although we requested for chapati and bread toast for breakfast in the previous night itself (they agreed to that as well), we were served paratha in the breakfast.
3. The owner, Mr. Praksh Rai is highly unprofessional. Once my booking was confirmed by booking.com, Mr. Rai called me up and asked for payment for confirmation of the booking, which is against the policy of booking.com.
4. He didn't give me a proper bill for the amount paid to him (accommodation, taxi and food bill).
5. I found his behaviour too rude for a guest. It was difficult to bring to his notice any inconvenience faced by the guest. On the day of my stay, there was long power cut in my room twice, once in day time and the other in the evening. It continued for half an hour. Interestingly, there was no power back up in the room. When it was brought to his notice, he behaved very rudely to me.
6. I found Mr. Rai to be highly money minded. I had booked a room for triple occupancy with a large double bed and a single bed and paid advance for the same. But on the day of my arrival he offered me a double-bedded room where he wanted to provide an extra cot. However, the room was too small for that.
7. I had discussed with him about booking a taxi for drop at Darjeeling. He charged me for a Swift Dzire (a sedan), but booked a Maruti Swift (a hatchback).
8. I believe, a highly reputed company like booking.com should look into these issues and should not misguide guests with wrong information.
- kulwant (10/5): - Family and staff, house ambience
- Sandipan (1/5): - Nothing Very bad behavior by the owner; he is rude and not polite.
- Shayan (9/5): Nice place to stay at Kalimpong, especially if you're young and energetic. - The homestay owner's family are a friendly, welcoming people. The terrace in front of the room has an exceptional view of the landscape. The food is homemade and delicious, suitable for people who like to avoid commercial food. Nothing in particular. It could be a good idea on the part of the family to proactively interact with the guests instead of leaving it on the guests to ask for anything.
- Guest (10/5): - The hospitaity of the owner & the very big varanda.
- Dr. Avik (10/5): Best in class - Everything Nothing
- Shantunu (9/5): Superb - Behaviour of the staffs Na
- Surodeep (10/5): Exceptional -
- Anurag (6/5): Fair stay. - The location was nice The ambience of the property can be improved a lot depending upon the property location.
- Noam (10/5): Exceptional - The family is so lovely. You feel at home
The view and food are worth the time
- D (2/5): Very poor -
- Dibakar (9/5): Superb - Very clean room. With an awesome mountain view. Bed is noise need to replace
- Raj4040 (9/5): Superb -
- Mondal (9/5): Superb -
- Dr (10/5): Amazing. - The best views which can be possible. Hardly a km Away from the town centre. Beautiful gardens.Super helpful, warm and cordial homestay owners. They coordinated right from before the trip, sharing exact locations, guiding the cab drivers to taking care of homestay needs, foods and local travel. Auntie took care of delicious meals (whatever we wanted).Prakash Uncle went out of his way to lend his car for travel. He personally dropped us back to Siliguri when he heard roadblocks were there. Both a re wonderful individuals.
Another uncle (forgot his name!) took us to offbeat places for mesmerising views and heritage places. 3days of stay here was bliss
- Sujit (10/5): Very nice -
- Chatterjee (10/5): Best Stay ever - The Home stay justified itself as it really felt like HOME. The owners of the property were very nice and always smiling. They gave us a comfortable feeling of stay. Aunty was the sweetest. She was like a big host always a service. Her cooking was homely and tasty. The food was very nice. And also very reasonable. There was comfort, peace and a feel good environment. We recommend this Home Stay for sure. And if we visit kalimpong again we are heading for Sunrise Inn for sure. There was no point that we did not like. The best experience we had
- Debayan (8/5): Very good -
- Soumyadeep (10/5): Exceptional -
- Santosh (7/5): Good location with basic amenities. - The home stay was in a good location. However , i think the property should mention the high amount of stairs that one has to take to enter the home. It’s very difficult for aged people and also it’s difficult for anyone with luggage. The home food was of good quality but little expensive for the quantity provided. They send you the menu on WhatsApp if needed and then one can take the decision to eat at home or outside. For travel as well, compare prices given by homestay and from outside and then decide.
- Dennis (10/5): Great homestay with a great host and a beautiful view - This is a great property. It is quiet (aside from the street dogs at night, which you should expect everywhere in India) but still close enough to town for walking. The family is very welcoming, and the food was delicious. The terrace is lovely. Unfortunately, the sky was too cloudy to see Kanchenjunga while I was there, but the view of the valley is still beautiful!
- Barman (8/5): Very good -
- Sarkar (8/5): Very good -
- Sayan (10/5): Exceptional -
- Pakhrin (6/5): Pleasant - View from the rooftop ✨️
- Deb (9/5): Superb - Everything , location, Owner behaviour, Food , comfort, bonfire. Beef and pork in menu option.
- Dipyaman (10/5): Excellent homestay for FAMILY - Excellent 👌 Leaving the location
- Jayeeta (10/5): A must visit - A must visit for all. An experience of home away from home. Wonderful stay.
- Dibyendu (10/5): Exceptional - Everything was nice and excellent.
- Kiran (10/5): Exceptional - Place is very nice, clean and calm..the best thing to visit this stay that the host family is very polite, the food is delicious and homely. And the best part is the location.. U can see the entire city from the terrace..
- Sanghita (9/5): Superb - The hospitality, cleanliness Nothing
- Jyoti (9/5): Superb -
- Angshuman (9/5): Superb - Peace and privacy, location wise good, great view, friendly atmosphere, special mention Mr rai Nothing at all
- Sunit (10/5): Exceptional -
- Ranjan (5/5): This is not the type of property which Booking.com should promote. - Location is good. Breakfast was provided, but not to the mark of any moderate establishment. No tea/coffee was included in the breakfast. When asked, I was told that extra charges will attract for that. Terrace is wonderful. On a sunny day one can spend the day on the terrace itself, without going any other place. Lunch has not been provided (both the dates) due their other priorities and no prior intimation was given. we need to search and arrange for our lunch. Booked room was "Double Room with Mountain View", but no view was there from room. But the terrace was good and view was available from there. "Goods & services tax" was collected from us, but no receipt has been given. Probably the collected Govt. tax part is not submitted to the Government, which I felt cheated.
Booking.com tells that pay at the property, but we had to make the payment in advance as per advice from the property. I was told by the property that otherwise the booking will be cancelled.
- Harsh (9/5): Superb -
- Abrar (9/5): Superb -
- Keya (3/5): Poor - Hi Prices , depend on location both for stay and food. The Breakfast was very bad
- Rahul (8/5): Overall experience is good - Mermerizing view from balcony . Quality of food is excellent. Overall experience is good. Amount of food supplied is very less. In breakfast 2 small bread and one omlet given. I informed previously that my mother is vegetarian. But still, only two piece of small bread offered her in breakfast. Moreover service needs to be improved . Several time we asked for drinking water but got poor response and compelled to refill water bottles ourselves from ground floor.
- Deepali (6/5): Pleasant - Location was superb Breakfast in small quantity. No mosquito mesh to put door and windows open for day and night for Air. No privacy to sit in the balcony. Drainage smell last 2 day was not bearable.
- Monoj (8/5): Very good -
- Rachel (10/5): Exceptional -
- Gupta (9/5): Superb -
- Mousumi (9/5): Superb -
- Smita (10/5): Exceptional - The location of the homestay is 10/10 but what makes it worth the stay is Prakash dada and vis family's hospitality. Makes you feel right at home! The food was good and comforting too.
- Saptak (9/5): Superb -
- Sen (8/5): Very good -
- Redwan (10/5): Exceptional -
- Mal (9/5): Superb -
- Sarang (9/5): Superb -
- Suhrid (8/5): Very good - The view and ambience Distance from the main centre, access to local shops and amenities.
- Rohit (10/5): Exceptional -
- Sharma (10/5): Exceptional -
- Brian (6/5): Overall pretty good - The big, deep, verandah was great. Good views from it across the valley, of Kalimpong along the ridge and of Deolo.
Food was good.
The location was good, being out of the noise etc of the town centre but only 10 - 15 minutes walk from it.
The room though small was comfortable enough for the two us. The bathroom was well laid out - we could shower without also getting the toilet wet.
The host Mr Prakash Rai was good to chat with, having lead an interesting life. The long flight of rough concrete steps, through construction work, between the street level and the house. And only a little assistance with bags on arrival. Not for those hesitant about steps, especially long flights of them
The bathroom was pretty smelly on our arrival (evening) but had cleared by morning.
The host's rate for a little sightseeing and drop-off to Siliguri is probably a little expensive. You should check other options.
- Rajdeep (10/5): Sunrise Inn - Great Prakash uncle! - The view, the ambience, the people, the hospitality, the food, the weather, picture perfect! Prakash uncle, aunty and their daughter, super hospitality! Must visit!
- Dr (10/5): Relaxing - Wonderful view and hospitality Entry in the home stay
- Doyel (10/5): The view, peaceful and relaxing stay and amazing host. - The view from the terrace is just amazing. Our host Shila Aunty is very helpful and humble. It will take 7 mins approx from the main bus stand to reach at this homestay by car, but as the ambiance and location is so beautiful that you can take 20-25 mins walk to the market or bus stand. If you are looking for a peaceful, relaxing stay you should definitely choose this accomodation. Our host made our stay memorable. .
- Gurudatta (9/5): Great view... - Breakfast tastey but limited in quantity... People are good and homely...Dinner was nice Privacy is not that much...
Need for good curtains...
Furniture is cranky and old...
- Biswarup (9/5): Superb -
- Diptimoy (9/5): Awesome Sunrise Inn - The name itself matches the location. . Because of heavy showers We are a little uncomfortable but from the guest house tarrace you can see all most all the Kalimpong. And spend your time by sitting there of course if you like nature. All the members of the guest house especially Prakash ji and Sheela aunty are very simple and lovely. We spend time as we are at home .
- Chettri (10/5): Exceptional -
- Lawni (9/5): Superb -
- Roy (10/5): The best homestay in kalimpong -
- Subrata (10/5): Exceptional -
- Abhishek (10/5): Ideal for peaceful vacation with family - The overall experience is extremely satisfactory - location, cleanliness, connectivity/wifi, food quality and hospitality It has 52 steps downhill to enter the property but there should not be any inconvenience for anyone who is comfortable with steps. I had senior citizen parents and they didn’t had any problems with stairs.
- Santanu (10/5): Nice homestay @ Kalimpong - The behavior and hospitality of owner Prakash uncle and his wife (aunty) was awesome. We felt homely and most comfortable stay at their property.
- Amit (10/5): The vacation will stay in my memory till my last breath - Excellent home cooked food , as myself is with health issue and having a special child along , the Rai family was of great support , and help altogether , Special thanks to Prakash uncle for taking care of Ayushman during River rafting , and driving us safely through the excellent valley . Also lots of love to Motherly Aunty for the care , And not to forget Prashika for the lovely cake . I liked , 1. The Rai Family 2. Location 3. scenic beauty visible from bedroom. 4. the Sunrise 5. lovely bakery run by the daughter Prasika & everything else
- Animesh (9/5): Superb -
- Sirsendu (10/5): Feel extremely happy at the time of staying ..................... -
- Ehsanuzzaman (10/5): Exceptional - Breathtaking view
Amazing staff hospitable
Comfy room
Hugeeee balcony, loved it
- Sanhita (10/5): Exceptional - Amazing stay. Prakash uncle and his family was so helpful.
- Arun (1/5): A mistaken booking never to be repeated. - The mountain view from their terrace was superb. Almost everything about this home stay were below par. The only way to access the home stay was via 40 nos. cemented uneven steps, close to 30 to 35 ft below the road. Therefore one has to carry the luggage down the stairs to access the place and for any movement outside, one has to climb up the set of staircase, which was almost impossible for super senior citizens like us. This was never mentioned in their web site.
Our original booking with the all items fitted was never shown to us, since it is in the lower floor with hardly any view. Therefore we were given upper floor room, which had a basic bed attached bath, tea coffee maker but very little else. The T.V. worked but not down loaded with live channels.
Constrained to Check out two days earlier than schedule due to our total dissatisfaction with the Home stay but owner asked for the entire booking amount siting Booking.Com rules. Food served were in measly quantity, though we were charged handsomely.
It is strongly recommended to remove this property from the International hotels /Home stay at Booking.com site, to avoid any further any further embarrassment.
- Anindita (9/5): amazing - Very homely and friendly atmosphere...the host made us feel at home and the view is amazing 1 request if you could add cleaning of rooms for on stay guests it would add up to be better
..but no complaints
- Manik (1/5): Bad - Paid him advance amount to book . Informed him timely on 14 April before 12 noon as per cancellation policy . Despite that did not get refund . Very rude , unprofessional and unethical Unethical behaviour
- Biswanath (10/5): Exceptional - Excellent your family behaviour ,food
- Jasmeet (10/5): This was our best home stay experience. It’s a must recommendation from our side. - Everything about this homestay is exceptionally good. Both Sheela Aunty and Prakash Uncle are excellent hosts. We never felt away from home. Sheela Aunty’s sumptuous food is not to be missed. NA
- Here (7/5): Good -
- Roy (10/5): Best Homestay in Kalimpong-Went as Guests..came back as Family. - Prakash Uncle, Shiela Aunty and Prasika were no more our hosts..They made us a part of their family. The Home-stay is nestled amidst the picturesque mountains away from the hustle and bustle of the city offering some stunning views-perhaps the best in Kalimpong! We danced, we cooked and spent some amazing time with them. Shiela Aunty made some lip-smacking Momos for us and Prasika baked the best cookies for us .. Cleanliness and Comfort -Top-notch! There is a provision for warm water round the clock. The terrace offers the best view of the entire Kalimpong City..shimmering at night. Watching the sun sneaking in through the mountains in the morning was just breathtaking. The tranquility and serenity of the place was mesmerizing. We went for a day trip too..and shared the best times together.. Overall, a very good stay at Sunrise-Inn. Looking forward to visit again.
- Nomadizingmyself (8/5): It was good expect for the conditional food portion. - It was good. For the price and the homestay set up, i expected the breakfast to be unlimited. It can be simple but everytime there was a clause that one extra bread or roti will be charged extra. This just kills the apetite.
- Nirmal (8/5): Very good -
- Kuril (1/5): Bad -
- Anwesha (9/5): Superb -
- Pradip (1/5): Bad -
- Naruttam (10/5): Exceptional -
- Tania (9/5): exp is good - the view was awesome if you are taking 1st floor room. friendliness of the stuff Even breakfast was included they give less amount of food. should increase more. it’s 15 min drive from main city
- Susmita (4/5): Disappointing - The view from the balcony. Paral's mother in law, Sheela, was nice and polite. Paral's behaviour, the 54 steps down at the entrance, which they didn't disclose anywhere. We were not attended at emergency, and they don't clean the room everyday. On asking to clean Paral said that the room shall be cleaned after checking out.
- Subrata (8/5): Very good - The view from the balcony . The rooms were spacious and bathroom was big and clean . Quiet surrounding and no disturbance . Absolutely safe property The approach to the property is an issue . Due to the hilly area you need to go down by few stairs to approach the property .. Free breakfast could have been better .There is no power backup ...
- Deb (8/5): Cozy Homestay with beautiful view from balcony - The view from the balcony. Water supply stopped at night
- Subhadeep (7/5): Good -
- Trishita (10/5): Exceptional -
