- Catherine (7/5): I am going again, peaceful location is near family, reluctantly accepted the electronic comms! - . My room was clean and spacious with lovely bed linens. It feels peaceful. I do not like the absence of human contact. I didnt see anyone except the back of someone disappearing into his room on my first night. You arrive at the metal gates and insert a key code and an elctronic American voice say "Welcome " and then you hear your name and the gates open . You have to insert the key code again to get into the house. I found the absence of any contact with a Human Being alien to me. There was some gorgeous jewellery for sale in the entrance lobby and one was advised 'to scan a QR code 'and pay on line. My phone couldnt do that. So I left the correct cash in a key box. I wasnt sure how to contact the owner of the property to let them know. When I came home I checked over all the emails and found there was a place on the booking.com website to send a message to the owner. This is quite a palaver for me as Im not a fan of technical communication in all areas of life. I dont like the absence of choice of being forced into a future without human contact and cash and a total reliance on a smart phone with a signal and a charged battery! A kind human voice and a smile enhances life.
- Scott (8/5): An oasis of calm - I loved the calm atmosphere, I loved the setting in a Victorian mansion with tonnes of character and original features in a very beautiful and green part of Liverpool with easy access to lark lane, Sefton park, allerton road and Liverpool city centre. Our room was very spacious with an en suite bathroom that was huge and fully stocked with all we needed. The room would be better with a TV
- Dave (2/5): A good stay that could have been spoilt by the dreadful accommodation. - The location was good. We didn't have breakfast in the package. Entry to the property was difficult. Information regarding the property and bedrooms was sketchy. The property was careworn/scruffy. The pool, although advertised as usable, was dirty and unsafe. Whilst the property boasted quiet hours, there was a dog that barked/ whined all night. Access to bathrooms was poor. I have tried to contact the owners but there has been no return.

- Kelly (4/5): Uncomfortable, strange and surreal - Comfy bed and spacious room Staff were unreasonable and threatening. Myself and my partner booked a romantic get away for valentines weekend. Prior to arrival the host sent a list of house rules one of which was quiet times and another was prohibiting alcohol on the grounds. We had a lovely evening out in Liverpool on 14th Feb and arrived back to the property at around 7.30pm, due to no TV, scrabble or bible available in the room for entertainment we popped on Spotify and ordered some food, a very strange lady with a dog that barked and howled all day long appeared at the door claiming to be a shareholder in the hotel and was very rude. She threatened to call police because we had music on. We were not asked to leave at this point and just to keep the peace we went to bed the time was 8pm and the music was as loud as a TV would be. The next day we received abusive messages from the owner and again threats to call police and demands that we left but would not clarify anything of substance we had done wrong. My conclusion is that the owner and her friend / business partner are racist and when she learned my partner was a black man they decided to make us so uncomfortable we had to leave and made false allegations that she would not back up with evidence even tho I requested clarification. My advice to anyone looking to book with this vile person would be AVOID

Ook kreeg ik geen schone handdoeken op de kamer als je de mand met handdoeken voor de deur gezet had.

Until I managed to spill a cup of coffee and had to mop it up with towels.... Greta the owner brought fresh ones for us very quickly.

The house had many period features and was homely and welcoming. Would highly recommend a stay here. Nothing at all. Only slight issue was the driveway entrance to the house is narrow and need to take care driving through it.

Also felt uncomfortable using the bathroom, especially at night, as there was no curtain to the window, only a blind. Also confused when we first arrived, as we were still required to use the door code to enter the property despite arriving well before 10 pm. We had expected somebody to be at the property to let us in when we first arrived. We in fact saw no staff, all communication was digital.

- Richard (9/5): Great location and value - Excellent welcome and felt very secure. Comfy and spacious rooms with the ensuite bathrooms but have to check you have them as several do not. Good value for money. Walking distance to Sefton Park. Be wary of the narrow entrance for cars so the turn has to be carefully managed.

- David (8/5): Why not stay in a mansion during your visit? - Great location and ease of access. Quiet comfortable room and bed. Nice to have coffee or tea at any time. Staying in a Mossley Hill mansion was a great addition to making my Liverpool visit fabulous. For me, a room with toilet would have been better ( I didn’t realize that the one I booked didn’t have one.) When I mentioned it to a staff member by message, they kindly changed my room reservation so that the shared bathroom was right next door to the room I stayed in: very kind of them, since it was my booking error.

- Martin (3/5): Very disappointing and depressing shall not stay there again. - The location was fine but the room letting set up was unfriendly not hospitable. The house we stayed in was a biggish historic building in relatively spacious grounds which could have made for an excellent and interesting stay. But unfortunately it was not. In fact just the opposite. The house has been divided up so as to take in paying "guests", but in such a way as to exclude the guests from all areas except for their bedrooms. with no welcome and no hospitality from anyone, not even a cup of tea. We just had a series of e-mails and text messages, as if the house was managed by robots and was in quarantine or had been struck by the plague. Also our bedroom was billed as deluxe but was drab and poky and the double bed which filled the room was undersized and too small for 2 people. (Even small people like my wife and I). Also this stay was not cheap, so all in all it was very poor value for money. Before the stay we were sent a huge list of house rules, mainly don'ts rather than dos, ( no noise, no alcohol, no tv, no going anywhere without permission, including the garden etc) which when we arrived made it feel like a prison camp. All in all we felt that the way the house was managed by our mysterious and dictatorial robotic AI hosts who we never saw, was a sadly missed opportunity to do something really good for guests with such an interesting building. What a let down.

- Louise (10/5): Comfort and Luxury at an affordable price. - I stayed at the Mossley Hill Retreat to visit my grandparents at a tough personal time and I cannot think of a better place to stay during that time. The house and room were beautifully presented and provided an overall sense of calm which was extremely needed due to the nature of my visit. Although I did not personally see any staff on site, I did feel well informed prior to check in. Everything was explained clearly, so I had no questions for my stay. The room was absolutely beautiful. The bed was perfect, I felt like I was sleeping on a big cloud every night. The amenities provided such as the dressing gowns, water, biscuits and fans were all well received. Overall the Mossley Hill Retreat added some comfort and luxury to a rather hard visit, which was much needed. I will be recommended everyone I know to be visiting this amazing retreat. There wasn't much to comment on in regards to what I didn't like, the only think I can think of is that I did find a few hairs in the bathroom, but I am known for being obsessively clean so I'm not sure if any other person would have spotted them.

If on the other hand, you want to escape the rat race, no TV, leisurely walks, and sit in a room that’s peaceful no noise, no stag and hen parties or drunk people stumbling up the stairs shouting, then … this is the place for you ! Firstly the location is excellent, in a lovely suburban part of South Liverpool, tree lined roads, sandstone walls, and a short walk to Sefton Park, and Lark Lane and the city centre is easily accessible by train or bus .. The owner is fantastic, you get a WhatsApp message with clear and precise instructions once you’ve booked…. it’s on the corner of Palmerston Road , big modern grey gate, put key code in key pad. Park up and press the front door key pad with code.! Once inside, it’s a twist of old and modern rooms. A bottle of water and biscuits await in your room, the room is clean, bed comfy and fresh clean towels in bathroom. It’s like a sanctuary for the mind, peaceful, calm, tranquil ! Try it step away from the chaos, the tv and just sit and read a book in stillness. It cured me !!! Nothing - definitely going back !

Pazar hely a város ( újbóli) felfedezéséhez. A konyhában nem volt egy asztalka, ahol leülhettünk volna. Ill. kedves gesztus lett volna, ha a házigazda, akárcsak egyszer is, megmutatja magát.

- Robert (10/5): Situated in a quaint part of Liverpool - Property is a Victorian mansion, which was beautifully appointed. Her room was large, had a fireplace and a large window, which went out to a balcony which you could sit on in nicer weather. The owner of the property was very helpful to us and getting established in the right room. This property is in a quaint area of Liverpool is actually close to Penny Lane. There are some good restaurants around which we ate breakfast and dinner. We especially liked the restaurant that featured Nepali food. The shower was small, but adequate.

- Susie (9/5): A relaxing, peaceful retreat. Homely and comfortable. - We really enjoyed staying in the Mossley Hill Retreat. It is a very comfortable, peaceful place to stay. We enjoyed the privacy and relaxed nature of catering for ourselves (with lovely croissants and fruit provided for breakfast). It is homely, with spacious rooms, very comfy beds, and in a quiet, leafy suburb. It is the perfect stay if you don't like staying in a claustrophobic, stuffy hotel. The swimming pool was opened on request, it was warm and very pleasant to swim in. Staff communication was good and we loved Alfie the dog greeting us at the door. Nothing it was all good.
- Francis (8/5): Very good - I stayed with my 10 year old son for 2 nights. We travelled from Ireland to go to a Liverpool match. It was a lovely place to stay. The room was clean and spacious. Shared bathroom and kitchen were both spotless and close to our bedroom. Overall it was a really good experience.

Location is ideal in Liverpool's poshest suburb but within easy reach of trains and buses. Car parking very secure. We had an excellent stay. NOTHING

Liked the oldish feel The price was extremely high for an extremely small room with a shower which had very low water pressure. The temp of the room got extremely hot or cold. Not to mention, hundreds of cameras everywhere you looked. Not a bad place to stay but makes you feel watched and not really a place to relax.

The bed was really comfortable, room was massive, beautiful plush carpet, extra heating if needed and the kitchen access was great. The security reassured us that the car was safe overnight. Only 10 minute walk to Sefton park was perfect for early morning and evening walks. I would love to stay here again - if I can get a booking! I would highly recommend

- Ruth (9/5): Quiet luxury. If you want to switch off and have a peaceful rest, then this is definitely the place - The 'small' room that we were put in, was in fact, enormous. Very warm and cosy. the bed was divine, lovely thick duvet and fluffy luxurious towels. There was also a lovely fragrance in the room, but not obtrusive. It would have been nice to meet the owner/manager face to face.

- Oliver (9/5): Comfortable and clean retreat - Whilst I usually stay in budget hotels I had been thinking of booking a more expensive city centre hotel as a bit of a treat for the other half and myself for the weekend. However as some of the reviews were a bit indifferent I decided against shelling out for something that may not live up to expectations. So plan B was look for something nice outside the city centre and save a bit in the process, and the plan was a great success. Mossley Hill Retreat is a fabulous old, large, but nonetheless comfortable house in a fantastic location. We had an en suite room with large bath and a balcony. Plus there’s a shared kitchen. Mossley Hill railway station is about a 5 min walk away for trains to the city or Manchester, and if you’re a runner you’ll be spoilt with a choice of nearby parks and quiet roads. Your hosts are invisible but communicative. The only down side from our point of view is the ban on alcohol consumption, which we would have particularly felt if the weather had been more appropriate for a glass of chilled white wine on the balcony.
- Neil (10/5): A really special place that’s as fair away from the hotel chains as you can get. - It’s a beautiful Victorian villa on a very atmospheric street on which Lord Ismay, the man in charge of creating the Titanic, used to live. My room was spacious, elegant and immaculate. There’s a wonderful park around the corner.

A little unclear about the the damage deposit charges and if they will really be reimbursed? I would’ve liked a couple of Glasses for water from the tap eventually. Bug repellent. Perhaps seasonal.

- Wayne (10/5): This is a best location in South Liverpool and an excellent place to stay. - I like this property due to the space and size of the rooms, even when full you feel as if you are the only one here, very peaceful and quiet. The property has everything you need for a very comfortable stay. I can’t say I didn’t like anything at this property as the owners were very friendly and helpful, they go way beyond the norm to accommodate you while you’re staying at there family retreat.

- Christopher (8/5): Lovely location - Cozy and beautifully decorated. The shower room is fantastic. Even better if... Some coat hooks or a coat stand to hang wet coats after a rainy day out. Blinds or curtains at the window in the living room to block light and draughts for anyone sleeping on the sofa bed. A better mattress on the sofa bed - it is very lumpy.
- Areti (9/5): Lovely and quiet accommodation near the park area of Liverpool - Ideal location for the parks under for us to see our family. Very clean and done with great taste. Well equipped. We were staying at the dog friendly apartment. Very quiet. Very quick to warm up when the heating went on. Not much and only minor practicalities. I would have appreciated some hanging hooks or a standing coat hanger. The bed of the sofa bed is a little uncomfortable (we were travelling with our son and needed the extra bed). The main bed is very comfortable. We didn’t need to use the back garden or the pool because we were visiting family and did not have time but needing 24-hour notice to use these, seems a little much particularly if the weather cannot be certain.
- Aimee (10/5): Heaven in Mossley Hill! - Absolutely loved my stay, the room and en suite were gorgeous and the balcony was the cherry on top (particularly as my first day of the stay, the weather was great for October! I can’t state enough how comfy the bed was, best rest ever. The house and grounds are beautiful, and the area itself it’s so peaceful and leafy. Easy and lovely to walk through Sefton park to get to Lark Lane for drink and dinner. Allerton Road/rose lane 5 mins walk for high street needs, and mossley hill station just two stop’s from the city centre. 10/10, would stay again. Nothing, it was pretty much perfect.

- Chris (10/5): Ideal for the independent self reliant traveller. - This is an ideal choice for the independent and self reliant traveller, with a car, who does not require city centre attractions etc. It's located in a pleasant suburb equi distance from the airport and city centre.
- Suzi (4/5): A hotel which is a work in progress should be nice when all completed. Shared toilet and shower room which isn’t ideal. - Well equipped shared kitchen. Secure parking. Bed comfortable with lovely Egyptian cotton linen. Towels thick and fluffy. The rear garden looks lovely from the bathroom window but sadly no access as the owners ‘red rope’ the doors off so you cannot access the garden or dining room at all, we had to message and ask. After sharing our views about the false description of TV, having to share toilet and shower room and being locked out, the owners kindly provided complimentary oatmeal and hot drinks for breakfast. Using the shared bathroom - soggy shower mats from multiple shower use, not changed with clean dry ones during our stay and because there was a sign asking to remove shoes before walking in the carpeted area feet became wet from the soggy mats. Toilet seat loose and needed fixing. Blind or curtain required at bathroom window. TV on the wall in the bedroom was only ornamental as there were no actual wires coming out if it - asked owner to remove photos and the TV for future guests as false advertising. Security system to the front door broke one day due to an electrical fault. so was locked out had to message the owner to let us in. House is a work in progress, attention to detail is vital (like giving areas, such as rusty radiator, a lick of paint and allowing guests access to the rear garden to sit outside and enjoy would help). Garden furniture in the front garden would also be helpful so guests can sit outside.
- Jack (10/5): Safe, calm, private and welcoming- I will be staying here again. - A haven of calm- the gates made it feel very safe and it was a very relaxed and welcoming home Next time I stay I’ll be booking one of the suites with its own bathroom but that just personal preference- the bathroom provided was extremely clean and very lovely and warm.

Like the fact that there is no TV in the room as well!! Difficult to find and improvement areas, as it was all very lovely.
- T (10/5): Lovely, peaceful stay-thoroughly recommend - Loved that it was so was so quiet and peaceful. Such a lovely house and owners were lovely too. Owners are around if you need them and greeted us on check-in. We didn’t have a breakfast, but they provided a nice personal touch asking if you want a delicious sounding breakfast via a leaflet, with info on the breakfast choices, put through the door and personalised to you which was sweet; but rest of the time unless you need them, you’re left to enjoy your surroundings and that works for me perfectly. Bed was the most comfortable bed! It was a gorgeous, big kingsize bed. Room was clean. No TV , knew this before booking. As we were out and about a lot, not bothered by no TV at all, and enjoyed reading a book. Check-in info sent, and no problems with this. Very clear info sent before arrival. Access to a shared kitchen and a bathroom in our case. Good to have a kitchen a few steps away from room, to make drinks/ food if you wish to, stocked with milk/ tea/ coffee etc. Dressing gowns supplied, good for coming in/ out of room. 5 minutes walk to Mossley Hill station, as well as bus routes, access to loads of places via the trains/ buses. Shops/pub/ places to eat nearby too.
