Guest Reviews
- den Hartog (10/5): A very welcoming and delightful place to be! - We had an amazing time at this homestay. The host was very kind and we had nice conversations with him. He gave us good energy and a good feeling! We loved sitting in the garden or on the balcony with a beautiful view.
It really gave the ‘homestay’ experience and we thank him for it!
- martial (10/5): -
- Julia (8/5): - Great view
Comfy room Shared bathroom
Far from the city centre
- WING CHI (10/5): Most stunning homestay view - The view is absolutely stunning. If you love mediation and yoga the place has really good energy. Wifi is strong and stable, they had speed-test done, so if you need to work on computer it's great. The host lady was really really nice, the breakfast was awesome and she made really good coconut pancakes. It's up hill but you can still find pick me easily. I am glad to have found this house so I get to visit the city but away from the crowd. I met some good housemates too, so I had really lovely experience there. Sweet. Nothing hehe. It's a gem.
- Alexandru (10/5): - It’s by far the nicest vibe in a home stay in Sri Lanka.
The owner is the best host we ever met. A bit far from the city center, but the view compensate for it.
- Anastasia (10/5): - Such a nice homestay, we felt very welcomed as soon as we arrived. Would definitely recommend.
- Théo (9/5): - Lovely homestay to stay, with a caring & kind host.
A clean room with a comfy bed, with aircon for a fair price. Location is above the city center, still served by Uber/PickMe apps, around the hills which is providing an amazing view on the mountains around. Definitely recommand it!
- SUU (8/5): -
- Jorieke (8/5): - Stayed here before embarking on the first and second stage of the pekoe trail. The location was great, and the host was really nice. She arranged a tuk tuk for us that was waiting when we arrived at the train station. Great and filling breakfast. The bed was very soft, and had a dent in the middle which made it a bit uncomfortable to sleep in with two people.
- Joaquin (9/5): Kind people and comfy stay - The bed is super comfortable and the house is at a quite place with great views. The owners are super kind and helpful. They helped us with information and arranging anything we needed The house is a little far from the center, but we knew it when we booked and we didn’t mind.
- Inês (6/5): - the location is a bit far from the city center but very quiet and beautiful around. the host was a very lovely woman who helped us in everything. one time we couldn’t catch a pick me and she called a friend who went to pick us up. made us a very good breakfast at the time we asked for :) maybe we had bad luck, but the sheets weren’t super clean and we woke up in the morning full of bites. probably bed bugs :( we also saw a cockroach in the stairs to the room. again, maybe we weren’t lucky, but it happened and kinda ruined the experience.
- Iyantha (10/5): -
- Ben (8/5): - Very friendly and welcoming host and helpful organising transport to and from city
Comfortable bed
Recommend if you're wanting to do the walks close to the homestay Need long tuk tuk to get to Kandy town and down a very steep hill
The breakfast okay, but is more expensive than most other places in Sri Lanka at $4, $3 for veggie (normally around $1)
- Beth (9/5): - The host was great, always there to help organise transport , give good tips of where to go & plenty of hot cups of tea & coffee. Great to chat to & lovely breakfast. Would highly recommend, very peaceful
- Petr (10/5): Exceptional -
- Izzy (10/5): Lovely stay just outside Kandy - Gorgeous place just outside of Kandy with a beautiful view over the town. The area is very quiet so only accessible by taxi but very worth it. The room was lovely and our host was so friendly, giving us loads of recommendations and going above and beyond when our tuktuk broke down at night! If you’re looking for a peaceful, friendly stay in Kandy I can highly recommend!
- Élise (10/5): Welcoming and peaceful place - Very welcoming and peaceful place. It's a bit far from the city center, but that makes it even more relaxing. Our host was amazing and made our stay extra special. We got great tips for visiting Kandy. Breakfast was delicious!
- William (10/5): Great accommodation. The host was great too. Very kind and helpful. The breakfast was delicious. Well located, not far f - The property is well located, clean and the host was amazing.
We ate really good breakfast Nothing
- Lilly (8/5): Very good - We had a private room which was not too big, but with AC and just enough for us! The bathroom is shared but that was totally fine for us! Especially the owner was really kind, he would always made us some tea whenever we came back from the town! He prepared a nice Sri Lankan Breakfast and heated up our leftover food! He can arrange you a good driver who will make a tour through Kandy with you and even prepared us snacks for the next destination! The room wasn’t too big, and the bathroom had some ants.
You kind of have to get a TukTuk to the House because it’s up on a steep hill, walking would take a while but with a TukTuk it was no problem
- Lijon (9/5): Amazing and really friendly host! -
- Vanessa (8/5): Very good - Great view from the room, bed was very comfortable, friendly host. Excellent wifi. Communicated well prior to arrival / helped organise a pickup from train station. Bathroom was quite a tight squeeze / the water pressure wasn't that great but for a short stay it's OK. Would be nice to mention drinking water is charged additionally - no issue that it is, just always good to know.
- Byron (8/5): Very good -
- Mia (9/5): Very nice staff, great view - The stay was a little bit more out of the center but Mr. Terrance brought us everywhere with his TukTuk and we even did a very nice tour with him. He brought us to the botanical gardens, a tea factory, a herbal garden, the white buddha, the temple of the tooth and more! He and the owner were very nice, they gave us tea and really did everything to make us have the best time.
- Amy (10/5): Peaceful stay - We loved our stay here with Sasindu! The location was beautiful and quiet in the hills, we had our own tuktuk so it was easy to get into town. The room was clean and really comfortable. Sasindu was an amazing host, constantly offering us tea, breakfast was $4 each with a huge portion that kept us full all day! He gave us lots of tips and things to do around the city too
We’d definitely recommend staying here if you’re passing through Kandy
- János (9/5): Superb - Simple and clean room. Calm and nice place. Kind host. Tasty breakfast. Close to The Pekoe Trail start.
- Isabelle (9/5): Superb -
- Fahim (9/5): Superb -
- Sven (9/5): Good - The owner was so nice! The house is located in the hills, 10 minute tuktuk from Kandy city center.
Beautiful view of the area from the terrace. Breakfast was also very good. Lots of ants in the bathroom.
- Nordenbæk (10/5): Lovely and so kind man who runs the place, made us fell very welcome and safe, as two girls traveling asia. Definitely o - Lovely and so kind man who runs the place, made us fell very welcome and safe, as two girls traveling asia. Definitely one of the best places we have stayed!
- Ieva (6/5): Pleasant -
- Janis (10/5): Exceptional - The host was so sweet and she gave us coffee and tea when we arrived
- Moska (10/5): Exceptional - Absolutely lovely family!! The view was stunning and there are possible hikes next to the homestay to escape the city trouble.
- Potapi (10/5): Exceptional -
- Giulia (8/5): Very good -
- Radley (8/5): Very good -
- Lize (10/5): Exceptional - It was a great experience to arrive there. Upon arrival, we were immediately welcomed with tea and cookies, which made the start of the day very pleasant. It was a really beautiful setting there, definitely a recommendation! It was a shame we couldn't stay longer because we really enjoyed the atmosphere. The room was small, but perfect for us. The bed was fantastic and very comfortable, which made sure we could rest well. Overall, a great experience!
- Karina (10/5): Exceptional - We stayed for 3 nights and it was just the best. First thing - the place - clean, comfortable, quiet with great view from terrace. Second - food - tasty, fresh made. Highly recommend dinner, and to ask for cooking lesson with Niranjala.
And the best part - Niranjala and her family - always smiling, always helpfull.
Thanks for everything
Overal rating 12/10
- Agota (10/5): Exceptional - The place was peaceful, welcoming, and friendly. We absolutely loved our experience. The breakfast was amazing! Thank you for everything.
- Elizabeth (10/5): Exceptional -
- Hooi (9/5): Superb -
- Mohammad (10/5): Exceptional -
- Nadira (10/5): Exceptional -
- Caroline (9/5): Superb - Beautiful views over garden and jungle, dinner and breakfast were delicious, location up hill close to tea museum and Pekoe Trail head; we had room with bathroom but whole house was nice. Exceptional family, very kind and helpful. Nothing not to like
- Marc (10/5): Exceptional -
- Simon (10/5): Clean and comfortable sleep - 10-15 mins up the hill in a tuk tuk, this is a lovely homestay with clean bedroom, comfy bed and a very charming host. Hill makes journey to station longer than it seems on the map.
- Akila (8/5): Very good - . .
- Ruth (9/5): Great stay! - Exceptionally comfortable bed! We had a shared bathroom but it was always kept clean and soap etc offered. The host family were all lovely and attentive. We had a great breakfast with them. The location provided monkeys and nature right on your doorstep and beautiful views over Kandy. The location was a far walk from Kandy and very steep but easy to arrange tuktuk if required
- Georgia (9/5): Superb -
- Joshua (8/5): Lovely people accompanied by a beautiful place to stay for a few nights. - Very kind and welcoming people. Property had amazing views surrounded by jungle and mountains. Food and hospitality provided was outstanding.
- Alexander (10/5): Exceptional -
- Dinika (10/5): Exceptional - I like they because so nice please and friendly dad
- Giulia (8/5): Very good - The owner is very kind and helpful . It is a quiet place . Air conditioning works super.
If you plan the Pekoa trail , the accomodation is closer to starting point.
I would definetely stay again here.
- Sarah (9/5): Superb - It was a very nice place and the staff very kind and helpful. It was a little hard to get to and from town using pickme because it was away from the city.
- Marta (10/5): Highly recommend - Probably the nicest place we have stayed at in Sri Lanka. Very nice facilities. Comfortable bead and very clean bathroom.
We could not have been received better by our hosts. Thank you!
- Barbora (8/5): Very good - The accomodation was very comfortable, the host is really friendly, everything was clean, AC worked great In description is that the accomodation is in city center, Well it is quite far from city center, like 10/15 minutes by tuktuk. I did not looked the adress before we booked so I was surprised when we arrived.
- Ophir (10/5): Great - Beautiful place
Very nice owner
- Kenshiro (10/5): Had a good memory there - You gotta meet a host. She is so kind and I’m sure you’ll like her as a person.
- Nelli (8/5): Lovely stay - Cute and clean room with effective A/C. A bit far from the town but it’s pretty easy to get a tuktuk/Uber/Pick me. They never have liquid hand soap anywhere in the toilets in Sri Lanka..
- Dw (9/5): Nice - Staff very friendly and accommodating. Serene beautiful location, albeit a trek uphill so some tuk tuk drivers aren't keen on driving to this location. PickMe still works, but may take a bit longer than usual to find a driver. The accommodation was comfortable, the shared bathroom was OK (personally would have liked it to be cleaned every day rather than every other day). The staff cooked a nice meal for us, at a good price, though they didn't understand no spicy so some of the dishes were a bit too spicy. No signage outside the front door so when we first arrived we couldn't be sure we were in the right place
- Moretta24 (8/5): Very good -
- Kimon (10/5): The food doesn't disappoint - Real hospitality. Felt like I'm staying at a very kind friend's house. I feel looked after. The place is a bit far from town, at least walking distance - which is a pro and con. Fortunately tuk tuks are affordable.
- Fathi (9/5): Superb -
- Keith (9/5): Superb -
- Joseph (10/5): Exceptional - Up on the hill looking over Kandy makes it a very peaceful spot away from the loud city. Tuk tuk driver Teras will look after you with very good rates! House is lovely and has super comfy beds!! Sri Lanka goodies for breakfast and dinner were great also.
- Misha (10/5): Very good - Super friendly owners of this super nice guesthouse. Very helpful and friendly. Guest house is a bit outside in very quiet part of town overlooking jungle. Beautiful views and good AC.
- Brock (10/5): Exceptional - Stunning views from the veranda, and an excellent jungle just outside. Spent a long time on the veranda day and night appreciating the sights and sounds.
The family was lovely and friendly and cooked an excellent dinner for us at short notice when we arrived late at night.
- Eva (10/5): I can recommend this place, they are so nice and cook amazing! - They took such great care of us. Amazing!
- David (10/5): Exceptional - Great place. Really liked the view and the owners are super friendly and warm. Got help in booking the train. Both the room and bathroom were very clean. Enjoyed my stay and will book again here when in Kandy Difficult sometimes to find tuk tuks at night willing to go all the way up so need to haggle a bit. I thought the breakfast was a bit expensive.
- Louis (10/5): Perfect - Amazing location, view was perfect. The owner is super nice, kind, friendly. The bed were extremlu comfortable, never had that in an accomodation (homestay) before. No water at disposal (free) for guest.
- Joan (10/5): Exceptional -
- Charlie (10/5): Exceptional -
- Lutchie (10/5): Relaxing - Quiet, clean, relaxing, wifi is good and most of all the host is accommodating and helpful. The location isn't that far from the center by tuktuk.
- Ana (9/5): Really good - The views are amazing. Everything is really clean and the owners of the house are really kind. Would recommend it!
- Mareike (10/5): Exceptional - Cozy rooms, clean bathrooms with free shampoo and toothpaste, amazing breakfast and wonderful hosts!
We started the pekoe trail from here and they were so nice to store our luggage while we were hiking.
It is a bit out of town but you will be rewarded with an amazing view and a peaceful sleep.
- Patrick (10/5): Room with a beautiful view - Really lovely family home on the hill overlooking Kandy. Was so well looked after by the hosts they cook great food and are always offering tea and coffee. Tap in bathroom needs to be fixed otherwise everything is great.
- Das (6/5): Pleasant -
- Nika (10/5): Gorgeous place! - GORGEOUS location!! It is a bit hard going up and down the mountain but the staff helped order rides when needed. Super comfortable bed, clean room and bathroom. Such a nice family too!
- Savanna (8/5): Very good - The property is a little out of the way but because its on a hill it makes for great sunrises and sunsets. What makes the su rise even better is the huge breakfast spread prepared by the most loveliest owners. We had to checkout really early but they still ensured we leave with a full belly.
The room wash clean and a small setup of amenities were left at our disposal. All and all great value for money and would recommend. The property is about a 25 minute walk to town and since the walk up is very steep it might be slightly inconvenient for some travels. But its a quick and cheap tuk tuk ride so it should not be a problem
- Tarik (9/5): Superb - The place is very wonderful, the treatment is more than wonderful, they were very overwhelming with me, although it is far from the city but it is wonderful everything in it is special I highly recommend it
- Maliha (10/5): Exceptional - We spent three nights at this lovely house with a beautiful terrace offering a magnificent view of the Hanthana range. The cleanliness was impressive, and the bathroom was well-stocked with toothpaste, shampoo, and body wash. The breakfast and dinner was delicious. The family’s exceptional efforts to ensure our comfort coupled with all other facilities made it our best stay in Sri Lanka.
- Ajay (10/5): Good - Good Good
- Dilshan (9/5): Superb -
- Cassie (7/5): Not bad - Hosts are so lovely! And speak really good English
Made lovely Sri Lankan breakfast for us for 1000rupees per person
Bed was comfortable
Amazing views!!
Room was clean Lots of dogs outside barking and growling through the night
Lots and lots of bugs in our room
Bin in room hadn’t been emptied from people before us
Far out so not many tuk tuk or cars will come up and collect you
- Beniamin (10/5): Exceptional - This place probably has the best view in the whole city. The host was really nice. Waited for us even though we came up late. The room was tidy and clean. After a long day of walking, it was everything I needed. The place is a bit harder for the tuk tuks to reach, but it is certainly worth staying here.
- Łukasz (10/5): All fine - Clean rooms! Nice view from balcony! Super kind hosts and delicious breakfast! Really enjoyed my stay there! Highly recommended!
- Viran (1/5): Bad - Little space
- Marcus (10/5): Beautiful house to stay in Kandy and they will cook a beautiful dinner. - The room was perfect , very clean and comfortable. The young lady running the place cooked a beautiful traditional Sri Lankan dinner for me and the breakfast was just as nice. I was so happy with the place that i stayed an extra night before leaving Kandy. Nothing
- Michael (10/5): Exceptional - My time at Hello Kandy homestay was an excellent example of Sri Lankan hospitality. I felt comfortable and enjoyed exploring the local community from here. I had everything I needed. The atmosphere was relaxed. The breakfast wholesome. The area peaceful, with an amazing vista to the hills. Thank you, Netme and family, for a lovely stay. I wish you and your family all the best for the future.
- James (10/5): Amazing stay - A lovely home with a beautiful view. Family were so friendly and helpful, they couldn’t have done any more for us. Breakfast was massive and they even upgraded our room free of charge. It’s 10/15 minutes out of the centre but they organised tuk tuks for us and even gave us lift into the centre.
- Kisalka (7/5): Good - They give me shared bathroom
- D (10/5): Fabulous place with fantastic breakfast - Very friendly & helpful hosts. This place is very calm & quiet. Room was spacious & clean. They welcomed us with nice cake and tea. True Sri Lankan hospitality <3. This place is managed by siblings: brother & sister along with their parents. Really helpful people. We had breakfast and it was fabulous. Very big breakfast with lots of fruits. This was the best breakfast we had in Sri Lanka. Value for money is over the moon. They helped us to get train tickets to Ella. Backyard garden is beautiful which opens up to a greenery view. Highly recommend this place. Nothing.
- Wathsalya (10/5): Overall superb experience.. - Location brilliant if you like peace quiet ,nice walk localy. The place was very clean and comfortable with A/C,balcony and bathroom with hot water. Because of the beautiful and serene garden it gave a nice outside feeling while still close to the city .The owner was really friendly and helpful too.
