Guest Reviews
- michelle (8/5): Amazing experience that my 2 young grandchildren will always remember. - The submarine is quirky and surprisingly comfortable with everything we needed for a 2 night stay. The staff are fabulous and the location of the campsite is great for exploring Cheddar. My grandchildren didn’t want to leave! I would highly recommend 😊 It’s almost perfect, just a bit of a trek to the toilet block with young children in the dark..I can imagine it would be worse in wet weather! A little bridge over the river for a more direct route would be very handy. Would have liked a bit more choice of things in the little shop but as it’s not far to the village it isn’t a major problem. Unfortunately the on-site cafe wasn’t open which we didn’t know until we arrived.
- victoria (8/5): - A great quirky place to stay and excellent position as walking distance from the main village.
Site was lovely with very friendly helpful staff Bit of a walk to go to the shower/toilet block - site owner said there was a pedestrian bridge coming soon to cut out the long walk round the field.
A torch is a must for late night visits to the loo!
- Stephanie (10/5): - The bed was so super comfy. It was a treat to have running water, a bbq already set up and a fridge. It wasn't too far from the showers and toilets or from our friends camping in another field. We loved all the buttons! We kept finding more buttons and lights over the weekend, it was so much fun. The food available for breakfast was excellent too and all staff were super helpful. We could have done with the picnic table that seems to be in a lot of photos. We would have brought a table if we'd known it wasn't there anymore.
- Paula (9/5): - Staying in a submarine is not something I thought I would find myself doing at 53, but it looked good fun - and that is exactly what it was. We were very lucky with the weather and were able to sit outside with a fire pit, which we also grilled some food on. I was delighted when a cat joined us for both evenings. I would love to stay here with my young grandchildren if we came back this way.
- steve (8/5): - The novelty as our 2 year old loved it with the switches that he could play with. Also plenty of room for him to run around outside and to explore. Nice touches leaving tea bags coffee and sugar for our arrival. Awkward getting in and out of the submarine but that didn't detract from the enjoyment that we got from staying there.
- Line (10/5): The perfect family stay. - Everything was amazing. From start to finish it was a complete blast. The views were incredible. Everyone on site is incredibly helpful and polite. The submarine was nothing short of magical!
- Mantas (8/5): Themed overnight stay – a real adventure for the whole family - If it weren't for this yellow little boat, we probably would’ve never discovered such a cozy town like Cheddar and its surroundings. In reality, it's just a repurposed lifeboat from a large ship. The biggest upside – this temporary shelter is located in a large campsite, so you can grill your own food, meet other fun people, sit by the campfire, and have a good time together.
Just a 6-minute drive (or a 30-minute walk) away lies the well-known town of Cheddar, home to just under 10,000 people. It’s a familiar name because everyone has probably tasted Cheddar cheese at some point. It's the most popular cheese in the world, and it originated right here. It’s a point of pride for all of England, even though nowadays the largest producer is actually the U.S.
But Cheddar is known for more than just cheese – it’s also famous for its ciders. The entire county of Somerset boasts a mild climate and clay-rich soil, which is ideal for special cider apple varieties (many of which are too bitter or sour to be eaten raw). All in all, it's a very interesting little town, full of charming local shops.
And that’s not all! This small town also boasts the largest gorge in the UK! As a result, you can also find many caves here – and even go rope jumping inside them, similar to bungee jumping from a bridge, only in total darkness! This activity (called the Black Cat Freefall) costs £35 per person. By the way, in one of these caves (Gough’s Cave), the oldest nearly complete human skeleton ever found in Britain was discovered – also known as Cheddar Man. The biggest downside – during the day it gets unbearably hot inside, making it nearly impossible to stay in.
- Samantha (10/5): Fantastic stay - The camp site is beautiful and well organised. Brilliant
- Melanie (10/5): Exceptional - Brilliant kids loved it and such fun and milk cereals and bits for us worth the money
- Michelle (10/5): Staff were friendly and helpful. The campsite is in a great position. There are different things to stop in. Gypsy carav - It was amazing and great fun. Bed was so comfortable. We had everything we needed.
- Sean (9/5): Wonderful experience for the kids, staff always cleaning the showers and toilets, great location, recommended to friends - Unique and the children loved it, bed was really comfy. Had more inside than we thought. Working sink, fridge and cooking area although we only used the bbq. Outdoor fire pit to finish the nights off. Needs trickle vents to help condensation and maybe seals changed. Inside mattress was wet can only assume from previous people, otherwise brilliant.
- Mama (10/5): An awesome unique place to stay! - We absolutely loved our stay here! The most unique place and such a cool spot that had my daughter thoroughly entertained for our entire stay. The submarine is amazing and the inside just fab, equipped with everything you could need and 2 extremely comfy beds. My daughter never stays in her own bed all night but she did here every night in the high up bed by the steering wheel of the submarine! Staff were extremely welcoming and helped us with anything - gave my daughter a ride in the tractor and provided us with firewood to make a camp fire. Showers and toilets are shared but were clean and there are plenty so we never had to wait to use one. There's a playing area in the centre of the field where the kids all got together and played which was nice. Great location only a few minutes drive from the centre of Cheddar and Cheddar Gorge. If you like glamping and staying somewhere a bit different then the yellow submarine is perfect!
- James (10/5): Magical memories of a fun & unique glamping experience - We received a lovely warm welcome on our arrival. The communal facilities were clean and our little girl loved the rustic playground with tractor and old van. The location is great- just a short drive from Cheddar. The submarine is so unique and so much fun for little ones- and adults too! Our little girl’s imagination ran wild playing with the all the buttons and wheels. I loved the attention to detail with all the humorous little plaques and sea creatures. And we really appreciated the sweet treat of marshmallows to toast! The beds were also surprisingly really comfortable- we would happily of slept a whole week in the submarine. We really were over the moon with our glamping experience in the yellow submarine! We made memories we will cherish.
- Toni (10/5): Best weekend ever - Took my 10 year old grandson for camping trip to have fun in the outdoors & the submarine provid - Unique, interesting, fun & magical
