Guest Reviews
- Sandra (8/5): Great stay for overnight wedding lovely breakfast - Staff were lovely and rooms good size Little bit dark in rooms
- Isabelle (10/5): -
- andrew (9/5): We had a great stay here, the area was lovely, the staff were helpful and friendly - It was a lovely place, plenty of places to sit outside. Very oldie worldly with a modern touch.
- Ali (8/5): -
- Timothy (10/5): -
- Emily (8/5): -
- michael (10/5): Love the area, the staff and the food. Well done hinds head I will return without hesitation - Quirky rooms
- Louisa (7/5): Definitely not recommended! - The staff were very friendly and welcoming,
The food was nice, it was well cooked and presented The whole building needs decorating ,
The room really needed a deep clean under bed was full of dust, there’s old and there’s dirty this room was very dirty , windows were very dirty , lights were very dirty after our first night I left towels on the floor in a pile to be replaced and they were hung up not replaced.. there was very little toilet tissue and this was not replaced either if had a alternative we would have not stayed but we had a wedding very close by and didn’t have much choice !
- Patrick (7/5): Beautiful location, staff very professional & polite, for the service on offer a little too pricey, staircases are a - Location was closest to a function I was attending, parking was great, staff were professional & always polite. Food Service was lovely, Lights in toilet too dark for shaving, had to use the street light and mirror at bedroom window, bed was very comfortable, although flooring was uneven, walking to and from the ground floor to bedroom was an Aladdin’s cave of routes. Other guests dogs sitting at breakfast tables not for me, trip hazard without going too much into the animals habits.
Breakfast: full “English” on the small side.
- Louise (8/5): Very nice place to stay. - Staff friendly and room clean, only slept there as at a local wedding. Breakfast was lovely and tasty!
- Kathryn (8/5): Outstanding staff made our stay a real pleasure - Homely and historic and the staff were excellent. Nothing was too much trouble Narrow staircases require a reasonable level of fitness, but understandable as it’s a very old building
- Alex (8/5): - A lovely inn with great staff, excellent food and good rooms.
- Michaela (6/5): -
- Julia (8/5): - Really nice small renovated hotel that felt very clean. Loved the vegetarian English breakfast! Really stylish interior. We stayed in room 1 and definitely didn't have the best room - right next to the linen cupboard, the first room next to the stairs, we could hear every single person that walked past. I thought the price was quite steep, but you still had to pay extra for a cappuchino for breakfast? That was quite unnecessary.
- Enid (4/5): Both ends of the scale here. Fantastic staff, food, location, drinks and breakfast. Room however not good at all and ce - Great location. Excellent staff. Great food. Beat beer ever. Fantastic English breakfast Room very shabby and not clean. paint peeling off everywhere - black around windows and very dirty/dusty room - not a comfortable stay. Very disappointing
- Lynda (10/5): Really lovely b&b - Lovely, quirky property. Properly comfy bed. Great relaxing bar and loads of options for dinner. Served very promptly.
- Adam (8/5): -
- Phillip (9/5): - breakfast was excellent
- Julie (8/5): -
- Chris (10/5): Warm and welcoming - Quaint Nothing
- Brian (9/5): -

- Nichola (8/5): Would definitely stay again - We had dinner the evening we stayed and it was of a high standard and very tasty. There wasn't a cheese board on the dessert menu however they accommodated so that was great service from the kitchen. Our waitress Alice was very attentive and lovely. Really nice, chatty and smiley young lady :-)
The superior room was lovely. A great size with all the facilities you could wish for. Really comfy bed and great shower. Struggled with parking initially due to the quiz being on, so we waited a while until someone came out of the pub to get a space. Reserved parking for residents would be a good idea.
- Judy (10/5): Relaxing - loved the history of the place - Located on a beautiful Village , very atmospheric property . Lovely staff . Cracking Sunday Roast …nice breakfast Nothing , pretty perfect
- Clotilde (8/5): -
- Steph (10/5): - Great value for money. Lovely clean comfortable room. Great breakfast
- Debbie (9/5): Very enjoyable, comfy bed and lovely staff . - Breakfast was really good, it was freshly cooked and there was lots of choice. It would have been nice if the restaurant was open after 6 in the evening.

- Daren (9/5): Great stay - Really friendly and helpful team, beds comfy and food great
- Sarah (10/5): Lovely stay, friendly staff - Very friendly staff, lovely room, large shower, great breakfast Nothing. Take their advice to pre book any taxis you might need. We found this helpful for a wedding we attended.
- Murray (10/5): Just a lovely place to stay, would recommend to all my friends - Friendliness from staff and a very beautiful building Nothing
- Sarah (6/5): Staff really helpful, rooms & bathrooms could be spruced up a little. - Good breakfast, rooms and bathroom ok Bathrooms somewhat tired - taptop inserts missing - very easy to address…
- Denise (10/5): - We liked everything from our welcome to the room and food offered on the menu. So much so we went back the following day. There was nothing we didn't like.
- Cédric (9/5): -
- GWYN (4/5): Food and pub great, accommodation not so good. - The food was very good. Lovely atmosphere in the pub. The room, looked very tired and the drains smelt.
- Lamb (9/5): -
- GWYN (3/5): Very disappointing accommodation and very overpriced. - The staff were very friendly and the food very good apart from the steak. The car park was small and very busy.
The accommodation was very, very disappointing considering the price.
Badly in need of redecorating and the drains smelt awful!
- Badger (10/5): -
- Jacques-charles (10/5): Perfect stay for a business trip - very typical hotel with all expecting confort and furniture for a business trip. There is pub at the first floor which is perfect for a working dinner. Breakfast is a real english one with a vegetarian variant. A breakfast a little bit earlier (6H30 vs 7H00 would be better)
- Theresa (6/5): Great staff and food, expensive accommodation - The price for this room was very high for a small room with a tiny bathroom and no wardrobe. The size of the room & bathroom compared to the price paid.
- Edward (8/5): -
- Katy (9/5): -
- Kate (8/5): -
- Carol (10/5): Lovely cosy place to stay. - Extremely dog friendly, delicious food. Lovely friendly staff. Annex was perfect with the dog.
- Vid (9/5): Superb stay - Loved the communiation before we arrived , the room was lovely ( though the florr was a bit creaky) , the team at the hotel was superb as was the breakfast. All good - npthing I disliked
- darrin (7/5): Pleasant hotel - Homely feel and very helpful staff The earplugs on the bedside were a sign of the road noise outside. Aircon would have meant the windows could have been closed for a peaceful night’s sleep
- Caroline (10/5): - Excellent hotel. My room was furnished a high standard.. The bed was very comfortable. Staff very friendly and professional. I would stay again.
- Peter M Jones (7/5): -
- D (9/5): A really nice stay - Nice historic building, well maintained. Good food and good beer. Friendly staff. Nothing.
- Jasmine (9/5): -
- Lindsey (10/5): Great facilities and wonderful staff - Clean rooms, friendly staff and excellent service
- Eleanor (6/5): - Ambience No transport feom train station
- Partridge (10/5): -
- Rebecca (7/5): Perfect British pub hotel 💚 - Lovely boutique pub hotel! Perfect place to stay if you are attending an event or festival at the Wasing Estate 💚. Delicious breakfast and friendly staff. For the price point it would have been nice to have a mini bar in the room with a selection of snacks and drinks.
- Alexandra (6/5): -
- Shakira (5/5): Wedding Stay Fell Short of Expectations - Available parking spaces We stayed for two nights to celebrate my wedding, but unfortunately, the experience was deeply disappointing.
On the first evening, the food service was excessively slow—my meal arrived 45 minutes after a guest’s. When we inquired about the delay, the waitress responded rudely and explained they were occupied with a function. This caused significant discomfort among several guests, and as the bride, I was left waiting without food. It would have been far more professional and considerate to inform us at the time of ordering that service would be delayed or unavailable.
On the final morning, breakfast was again delayed by approximately 45 minutes due to only one chef on duty. I asked three separate times to confirm whether my meal was gluten-free, as I have a medical condition that requires a gluten-free diet. Each time, I was assured it was safe to eat. However, after I began eating, the waitress returned and urgently told me to stop, as the chef had just confirmed the meal was not gluten-free.
By that point, I had already consumed a portion of the meal, and I became unwell within a few hours. I experienced stomach pain, fatigue, and discomfort for the remainder of the day. As a bride, I should have been enjoying time with family and friends, but instead, I was dealing with the physical effects of being given food that I was informed was OK to consume. It was deeply upsetting and completely avoidable.
The room itself was uncomfortably warm and noisy, with traffic disturbances as early as 4 a.m. The floorboards were extremely creaky and left visible dust on my socks. The room also had a musty, stale smell, as though it hadn’t been properly aired before our arrival.
Additionally, the value for money was poor. Room rates increased each time a guest booked, meaning some of my guests paid significantly more than others for the same type of room.
- Rocky (6/5): Breakfast was good. Ample parking. Very soft bed. - Staff. I chose the hotel because of the proximity of it to the venue for an event in the evening. When I booked the room, I told the hotel I needed a taxi to take me to the venue, about 15 minutes drive away. At the hotel I was told that the taxi 'had to come from Reading' and so the cost each way would be £35-£40. Outrageous.
- Ethel W (10/5): - Good location, friendly and food excellent
- Lucy (8/5): A lovely stay in a quaint pub - A quaint pub with lots of character and rooms that reflect this! Our room was very spacious, had a great shower and lots of tea / coffee (with a coffee machine) provided. Very good location if going to a wedding at Wasing park. Staff were brilliant, as was breakfast Completely understandable due to the quaint building however we didn’t get much sleep as you can hear everything, floor boards creaking in the room above at 3am etc.
Not the fault of Hinds Head but other guests could have been more mindful (ie having full blown loud conversations outside our room at 6am wasn’t ideal). Maybe small signs could be put up to ask guests to be mindful and respectful and keep noise to a minimum would be helpful- just a suggestion :-)
- Angela (8/5): - The breakfast was excellent. Bed was comfortable. Shower was good. The coffee in the room was very nice.
- BRUCE (10/5): THE STAFF SO HELPFUL,AND SMILING ALL THE TIME,WHICH MADE US FEEL SO WELCOME. - BREAKFAST WAS GREAT.
- Linzi (8/5): -
- David (10/5): Very pleasant evening spent in the bar and restaurant and a good nights sleep. Staff were excellen. - The Staff gave a friendly warm welcome. The room was lovely and comfortable. the food was fantastic and there was a large selection of Gluten free dishes. all the staff were very helpful and friendly. we could not fault them. The hotel is set in a lovely village setting and very quiet. nothing
- Glynis (7/5): It was not as good as we expected - It was quirky and different Room 9 was not a junior suite
There was no fridge in the room
It could have been cleaner
- Jayne (8/5): We had a lovely stay in a lovely location, the staff were professional and friendly too. - The decor in the room was very good. We liked the Dyson fan and the selection of coffees plus the toiletries. The coffee wasn't fully replenished after other guests though, as not consistently two of each coffee bag, and the cups were a little dusty and needed rinsing. The breakfast was good and I especially liked the 'proper coffee'. However, if at a later sitting, it would be helpful if the waitress replenished pastries, milk, cafetieres and replenished the cutlery on the table and also wiped the table after the first sitting. (I don't like other people's croissant flakes!). She also took guests orders who arrived after us, so I think she actually forgot to take our order until prompted. We had to ask for everything as it wasn't there (and sometimes twice!), which we would have preferred not to as it feels awkward! I feel the choice at a later sitting should be as good as an early sitting! She was pleasant and polite, just not as 'on it' as perhaps could be.
- CLIVE (9/5): Great location for business travel in the area - Quirky interior larger than it looks on the outside All good
- Glenn (9/5): Clean and comfortable rooms, great staff - Comfortable stay, staff hard working and very helpful.. Buffet part of breakfast was a little lite on options, however the cooked was great!
- Courbay (10/5): A true taste of old England - The staff was amazing ! Great vibe . EXCELLENT dining . Soft beds
- Lynsey (9/5): Marvelous hotel and staff - Felt unique, lovely quirky building where the very best has been made of the features and layout. Staff welcoming and accommodating. A comfortable stay just wish we were there longer. A last minute stop over in a hectic week turned into a relaxing and recuperating moment in time. Thanks Just a thought. Our stay was during a heatwave, the rooms weren't full and it made me think that air-conditioning units could be available for hire secured by a deposit to avoid risk of theft.
- Janet (8/5): Generally a really nice stay - Small and quaint and a very good breakfast. The bedrooms were very hot we had 4 between us which was a little understandable as there was a heatwave but the fans in the rooms were rubbish hardly worth putting on .
- Steve (10/5): Lovely Hampshire gem - Stayed at the hinds head a few times now ,very oldy worldy pub with lots of character, food is always very good as well inc a great breakfast, rooms are spacious and comfortable , we had a bath and a shower which was great . Location is very good for us as well ,with easy access to Basingstoke town but also great country side near by . Highly recommend this pub if you find yourself in the area Not much to dislike tbh

- mike (8/5): - Stayed here a few times and keep coming back as it's great.
Great evening meals and breakfast. Friendly staff. Loads of history. Beautiful building. Great location Can't think of anything
- Maria (8/5): -
- Jessica Megan (10/5): -
- P (10/5): Hope to be back again soon - They said the Sunday Lunch was good. It was probably the best I’ve had
- allison (9/5): Perfect - The whole experience was chilled & the location was great for us!! The staff were attentive, the building was steeped in a historic story! Dinner & breakfast was great & the garden was big and they had an entrance through the fence to the parish park! N/a
- Krzysztof (10/5): - Stylish room, well equipped, clean. Food in the restaurant great. Perfect breakfast!!
- Nigel (4/5): Too expensive for a pub, noisy, badly designed room but excellent breakfast - Breakfast was extremely good - choice was good and the cooking was good so very happy with that. The room and the price. £200 for a dark, noisy room - complementary earplugs on bedside table tells the story! Also, basin was outside bathroom so very unhygienic and light for bathroom also turned on basin one so room lit up at night - rubbish design and yet plenty of room to integrate a basin into the bathroom itself. Avoid Room 1 at all costs!
- Steve (9/5): -
- Simon (9/5): -
- Steve (9/5): -
- Lamb (9/5): - Food and staff were brilliant N/A
- David (10/5): A truly memorable stay for all the right reasons, thank you - The location was perfect and just a short distance from our sons wedding venue. We had a lovely meal with our family at the Hinds Head the night before the wedding, the food was fantastic and the staff great.
- Nicholas (9/5): A lovely village inn with friendly staff and tasteful, spacious room. - The staff were very friendly. The breakfast was lovely. The room was lovely - spacious and nice, clean bathroom. Coffee machine in room was welcome. The bar downstairs was lovely. Nice village location (albeit remote when not driving your own car!). There were a couple of questionable stains on the sofa - nothing too bad but would have liked them not to be there.
I would also like the hotel to consider if they feel they could go a bit further with customer service to ensure that the guest's stay is enhanced. For example, working with a local taxi firm to ensure that the guest gets the best experience. That is either though taking the initiative to help the customer book their transport to/from where they are going or perhaps even going one step further to collaborate with a trusted local partner/firm. This way the hotel could guarantee a certain number of bookings for the local taxi firm, take the pressure off the guest to search / ask for local taxi firms, and the taxi firm would have to answer to the hotel if their service was not up to standard (more of an incentive to the taxi firm if there was a threat to future business rather than screwing over individuals with little recourse).
- Fiona (8/5): Friendly comfortable and nice atmosphere - Superb breakfast. Lovely staff. Great location Would have liked the room serviced during the stay
- Simon (10/5): -
- Taylor (7/5): Good staff and spacious - Uninsulated windows. Creaky floor. Traffic.
- Hazel (7/5): - Great find and lovely oub Could hear noise from the pub in the room
- Judith (8/5): -
- Andy (10/5): Great hotel - Lovely restaurant, good breakfast, rooms are quirky and extremely nice Nothing
