- Andrew (9/5): Nice little place to stay - Very Clean and Comfy. Cooked Breakfast was excellent, it's amazing how so many places don't know how to poach an egg properly, here they do!! I checked in just before 8 at night to be told the kitchen was closed. Fair enough it was something I hadnt checked but after driving for nearly 4 hours I needed something. Fortunately there is a decent Indian Takeaway that delivers to the pub as recommended by the guy behind the bar which was really good.
- Louise (9/5): - Nice room and furniture. Clean bathroom. Good tea, coffee and biscuits.
- Hannah Cole (6/5): -
- Kevin (9/5): A very enjoyable stay. The perfect start to a walking holiday. - Friendly and efficient staff. Dinner was very good. A rather basic breakfast, but perfectly acceptable.
- Patrick (9/5): - Great place for a stop over on a cycle trip. Staff very helpful and stored bike securely overnight. Breakfast very good and accommodation very clean and comfortable.
- Graham (7/5): A good overnight stay - Classic British pub. Good location for start of walking the Northumberland Coast Path Room could have been better lit and a bit of heating would have been nice
- Fiona (8/5): -
- Andrew (8/5): Good value for a good night's sleep with breakfast. - The location was perfect - on the X20 bus route and a mile away from the start of the Northumbria Coastal Path. Staff were welcoming and professional. Beds were super-comfy and breakfast was lovely. Decent coffee as well. A great start for the coastal path. All good.
- Deetours (7/5): Ok for an overnight. - Good location for our trip. Good breakfast. Shower didn't work. Staff did their best to offset this by lending a shower in an adjacent room. An alarm (from a freezer?) sounded all through breakfast.
- stephanie (8/5): - Good cooked breakfast every morning. Particularly liked the twin room as it had plenty of space and a great shower. Was relatively close to cresswell bay and bus stops for sightseeing eg warkworth castle, Alnwick castle and Newcastle itself.
- Karen (8/5): - Friendly staff great breakfast Shower awkward to use
- diane (8/5): - The bar is welcoming and comfortable. Breakfast was fine and served quickly.Car parking is easy.
- Stefan (9/5): - Schönes Zimmer, gutes Abendessen --
- Paul (9/5): - Very pleasant staff breakfast was great and the bedroom was clean and easily accessible. Nothing
- Elaine (6/5): -
- Lucrezia (3/5): - Il personale, poco gentile.
- john jagger (9/5): -
- Caroline (7/5): Would recommend if wanting value for money - The staff were all helpful. Food delicious and not pretentious. If it’s shower only then shower caps should be provided.
Food ordering finishes very early.
- Nigel (8/5): Comfortable hotel with friendly staff. - Very good breakfast. Location excellent for anyone walking the Northumberland Coastal Pathj. Nothing.
- David (8/5): Very good -
- Lucie (8/5): Very good -
- Hazel (5/5): It was very disappointing both in terms of the accommodation and food - The evening bar staff were very pleasant. The towels in the room were lovely and soft. The bed was comfortable. The noise from a generator or fan or something in the public below was bad. The bin in the shower room had not been emptied when we arrived and it was disgusting. The sink in the shower room was tiny and when bending over to clean your teeth, you hit your head on the shelf above the sink. There was not enough room to be able to fill the kettle from the sink in the shower room. Sockets were inaccessible- you either had to move a large piece of furniture or bend down and squeeze along to get a plug-in. The shower surround at the bottom was coming away. The breakfast was poor there was only a choice of cornflakes or crunchy nut cornflakes and orange juice or tea coffee. Coffee was strong, cold and undrinkable. The cooked breakfast was greasy. We also had a meal on the evening of arrival which took ages to come and was disappointing. I’m sorry to say that we will not stay in the Plough again.
- Philip (8/5): Very good -
- Sarah (7/5): Good - The decoration was very tasteful in the room and the bed was very comfortable. The room was directly above the bar and there were some extremely loud "lads" until 12 pm.
- Deborah (9/5): Walker's stopover - Really friendly staff team. Great veggie breakfast
Comfortable bed Shower
- Benjamin (8/5): Very good -
- Barbara (10/5): Exceptional - Comfy and clean room. Friendly staff-couldn't have been more helpful. Stored our cycles overnight and Ethan even covered our seats with plastic bags in the morning when it started to rain. Lovely evening meal-well cooked and great value. A great b & b. Would recommend. Nothing.
- Georgina (5/5): Passable -
- Susan (8/5): Good for its$ - Everything in pub was quite acceptable except shower and basin.
Comfort Food and service v good. All v satisfactory, EXCEPT bathroom and shower..
Shower was dangerous and could cause serious burns as regulating the hot water was v difficult and was sometimes scalding. Basin was badly placed..better room layout would have helped.
- David (9/5): Superb - Received a very warm and friendly welcome, a comfortable room and lovely well presented breakfast.
- Fergus (8/5): It was a clean, enjoyable overnight stay, and with friendly staff - Breakfast was good I found my single room to be a bit on the hot side. The heating was on, and it didn't need to be (in my opinion).
- Gina (10/5): A very enjoyable stay and convenient for what we needed. - Very clean and warm. The bed was very comfortable.
Breakfast was excellent! The dinner menu was quite limited.
- Annie (7/5): Comfortable room, lovely breakfast. - Very good breakfast. Mine was a single room, nicely decorated and warm, the bed was comfortable, tea and coffee making facilities with additional tea and coffee etc available on the landing. Also a handy iron and ironing board.
Good location for the north east coast. The en-suite shower wasn’t functional, it was loose from the wall and the temperature control didn’t work which was disappointing. I let them know so hopefully this will be sorted. The sink was very small as well so only able to fill the kettle using the tea mug. I only stayed for 2 nights so it was manageable.
The room was noisy until after closing time which is probably something I should have expected as it is a pub after all.
- Eve (9/5): Comfortable, spacious room. Great breakfast - The room was spacious and the matress extremely comfortable, so had a great night's sleep.
The breakfast was very nicely cooked and plentiful
The members of staff we interacted with were all helpful and supportive One cleanliness issue that was raised with the proprieter and has been dealt with.
- Helen (8/5): Very good -
- James (8/5): Very good -
- Peter (3/5): Unwelcoming and dated - It much Staff indifferent and rude , poorly maintained , overall tasteless food
- Michael (8/5): Very good -
- Jane (7/5): The owner was very chatty and friendly. - Nicely decorated rooms and comfortable beds.
Lovely photos of local area in room and bar area. We would have liked a down stairs room.
- Chris (7/5): Provided what I needed. - English breakfast was good. Location but I had no choice in that. I really wanted somewhere closer to the sea.
- Anthony (8/5): Very good -
- Keima (10/5): Exceptional -
- Maree (9/5): Superb -
- Paul (9/5): A very well presented Inn with all the requirements for a comfortable stay. - Great location, staff very friendly and very helpful, my room was very comfortable and clean, with all the amenities that I required, dinner was very nice and well presented, overall I really enjoyed my stay, and look forward to staying there again. Nothing everything was just right.
- Pete (7/5): Standard fare, good value for money. Dinner was fine, breakfast wasn't. - Room was good value for money. Dinner was good. My vegetarian cooked breakfast wasn't very nice. Beans tasted re-heated, mushrooms were watery. Poached egg and toast were fine.
- Nicola (7/5): A little disappointed - The staff were welcoming, the room was clean, warm and comfortable. Good selection of teas in the room, and biscuits. The shower was great.
But the meals were disappointing, which was a surprise given the reviews. In the evening, the only available vegetable seemed to be peas, and several meals had no vegetables at all, with no side order vegetable option either (eg, a side salad). The food was uninspiring.
There was very little choice at breakfast. Only coffee was offered, tomato was on the list but not provided, and only one piece of toast each.
When we came down to check out just after 9.00 the door to the pub was locked and there didn't seem to be anyone there. We had wanted to add some things to our bags, which we'd left for bag transfer on our walk.
We hope we were just unlucky as our experience seems at odds with the other reviews.
- Simon (8/5): Very good -
- Neal (7/5): cheap and cheerful, enjoyed my stay, just didn't sleep very well due to bed. - breakfast was nice, room was nice enough. Dinner I had the pie and it was like a little pukka pie, nice enough but a bit small though overall it was ok. bed was uncomfortable and the desk wasn't very user friendly, (couldn't put your legs under). Plugs were inconveniently placed and the shower cubicle was too small (very hard to find space to wash not under water) and also the water was scolding hot.
- Stephen (9/5): I highly recommend staying at this excellent location. - On my arrival and checking into my room it was very cold. I spoke to the barman who spoke to the off duty manager and efforts were made to put things right. Unfortunately I didn’t the night in a cold room.
The following morning I spoke with the manager who immediately moved me into another room that had the heating working. I was very impressed with the speed the manager moved to make amends which I was very pleased and appreciative on how he dealt with the problem.
I was very impressed with the service over both nights and the evening food was excellent.
I also had a full English breakfast each morning and that was brilliant.
I can recommend staying at this location as I will on my next trip to this region. Nothing
- Jan (8/5): Lovely room and location; super staff; great breakfast; check for live music nights. - Great location. Lovely staff. Very good breakfast. I know it’s a pub and you expect noise. There was live music the night we stayed till after 11pm. It was loud in our room - we didn’t mind too much but we weren’t warned and if you wanted peace, this wasn’t the night for you.
- Elsa (6/5): Pleasant - Pleasant staff Room was too hot tried turning radiator down but couldn't, hardly slept cos room was too hot.
- James (9/5): Superb - Excellent breakfast
- Andrew (9/5): Superb - Lovely friendly staff. Breakfast a good as it gets. Clean, comfortable warm room, with some quirky fittings. Excellent all round. Nothing
- Peter (9/5): Superb - Ethan and Holly always make us feel really welcome I wish they would get some traditional ale in the bar
- Tracey (7/5): Good -
- Kyle (10/5): Exceptional -
- Glenn (10/5): Well worth a visit - would recommend highly. - Lovely staff, cosy pub and nicely fitted out. Breakfast hot and freshly cooked.

- June (8/5): Perfectly adequate, Warm, welcoming and comfortable. -
- Keith (10/5): Great location great food on the night and breakfast - Lovely and very spacious Nothing
- Peter (10/5): we are regular visitors - we have stayed here many times and have booked between Christmas and New Year, we love it all I wish you had a decent bitter on draught
- Mark (8/5): Very good - Very friendly welcome and no fuss.Good meal and beautiful cooked breakfast. Only thing was the shower was too hot for me to use. Otherwise all great value
- Betsmum (10/5): Exceptional -
- Robert (8/5): Friendly no nonsense clean accommodation. -
- Thomas (9/5): Fabulous - Great breakfast, location perfect Shower too hot, couldn't lower temperature
- Neil (10/5): A warm and cosy room on a stormy night. - We cycled up the coast from Newcastle and arrived at the end of a very wet day. Our host couldn't have done more to welcome us and make us comfortable including supplying copious amounts of paper for us to stuff into our sodden shoes. Secure, dry storage was also provided for our bicycles. Our room was warm and very comfortable with excellent en suite facilities. We dined in the bar from the midweek evening set menu. The food was good and the portions generous. We enjoyed a full cooked breakfast in the morning before resuming our journey up the coast.
- John (8/5): Very good - Breakfast Heating controls, wash basin too small
- Adrian (8/5): Definitely stay there again - The food was excellent and the location great. The bathroom was a bit small but apart from that everything was great.
- Elizabeth (10/5): Very pleasant - The staff and owners were very nice nothing was any trouble. Nothing
- Deborah (10/5): A lovely welcoming hotel - Friendly, helpful and knowledgeable staff. Great food Nothing

- David (9/5): Superb - Comfortable room, friendly staff and good value for money
- Paul (10/5): Exceptional - This location was perfect for my purposes and the room offered was as expected. Clean, tidy and with modern facilities. Breakfast was super and overall, my experience was a very pleasant one, made all the more so, by the attentive staff.
- Anna (7/5): Overall all fine for the price. - Breakfast was fine, decent wi-fi. Room was small, particularly the bathroom even for a single. But overall fine for the price.
- Taylor (10/5): Friendly and comfortable stay. - Very comfortable stay, room was just right and beds very comfortable. The breakfasts were lovely with lots of choice. We had two dinners and both were excellent.Would recommend The Plough for a good base to explore the area. Cannot think of anything we did not like.
- Jane (8/5): A great start to the Northumberland coast walk - A lovely place, spotlessly clean, really welcoming and helpful staff, and great food.
- Cordeaux (8/5): Welcoming hosts with a fantastic breakfast. - Holly and Ethan were very welcoming and really made us feel at home.
The cooked breakfast in the morning was one of the best we have tasted. It was exceptional. The shower was too hot. Difficult to regulate.
- Colin (7/5): Good food, good accommodation and friendly welcome - Handy location. Easy parking. Friendly staff Last order for dinner at 19.30 was a bit early
