- Mateo (8/5): Una estancia casi perfecta.

- L. (9/5): Nice hotel on a great location - Specious room with two bathrooms and a really specious bedroom. The view was absolutely amazing! Breakfast was served in our room (three options) maybe a bit small portions, but fresh!
A bugspray will be good to provide as some insects can be crawling around during evenings. The temperature of the showers can switch from time to time, but I expect this will be happen in each hotel in this area…

- Holly (10/5): Peaceful chalet in a great location - We had an amazing stay here. The chalet is so spacious, clean and comfortable and very well located - super peaceful. The breakfast was great too. Nothing
- Luis (10/5): Exceptional -
- Londoño (7/5): OK - The chalet wasn’t prepared to host 4 guest, the sofa bed was very uncomfortable to sleep and not enough cover to sleep.
- Eddie (8/5): Could be great but still quite good - I’ve stayed at a few glampings in Guatape and so far this one was the best.
I’d give them a 10 except for the issues I will mention later.
Gretel consists of eight Swiss themed chalets. They are beautiful and well appointed. They have a decorators touch. The sofa and some of the patio chairs were very uncomfortable though.
The chalets are spacious with a bedroom and balcony in the upstairs loft. The bed was very comfortable. It was surprisingly quiet at night even on a Saturday. The kitchen is equipped for basic cooking.
The WiFi was solid and I was able to do a Zoom call and stream movies.
The housekeeping and service is friendly and good. The housekeepers and jacuzzi attendant were very good.
Breakfast was good. It didn’t take long the first day but more than an hour and 15 minutes the second, which was quite excessive. Breakfast is brought to your room to enjoy on the balcony with a view of the lakes or inside at a bar that faces out. They made an error with our order bringing me scrambled eggs instead of over easy one day. That would usually get you an apology and not much else in these parts, which I got but then much to my surprise barely five minutes later there was a knock on the door where a smiling waitress apologized again and handed me my eggs as requested.
One nice feature is that the sliding glass doors to the main balcony and jacuzzi open almost all the way which allows for a wonderful breeze from the lake and makes the generous space feel even more open.
The property is also surprisingly close to Guatape and the rock, which is visible from the property. A short five minute tuk tuk ride for $2 gets you to the Guatape town square. The things that weighed on my rating were the extreme heat during the day and the poor communication with the front desk. For example we asked for a sponge and dish detergent and didn’t get an answer. The housekeeper showed us where they were stored out of sight. There were other communication shortcomings and they communicate quite informally and what in this region many might consider rude.
And the heat can get bad during the day. The dark metal roofs on the a-frame cook during the day and the heat in the bedroom becomes oppressive. On one day it literally felt like a sauna. These chalets absolutely should have AC. It was cool and comfortable at night but during the day beginning around 8 AM the chalet becomes a roaster. We tried to avoid the upstairs during the day. Id love to come back but this one detail would probably prevent that.
- Tomas (10/5): Exceptional - Nice place, cozy and clean)Breakfast is good) Would be good to have a slippers and bathrobe)
- Amy (10/5): Excellent stay in Guatape - Excellent location. The front desk called a Tuk Tuk for us when we wanted to head into town which was inexpensive (approx $2-3 USD) and about a 6-8 min ride. Complimentary breakfast options for the day were sent via text early morning, Three different meals to choose from : pancakes, waffles, or bacon/eggs. All meals came with fruit and choice of coffee, juice, or hot chocolate. Breakfast was delivered to the room. It was great having breakfast on the deck each morning. The front desk staff were very friendly and helpful. We were able to check in early and allowed to leave our bags with front desk after checkout. The cabins are new with fantastic views. The hot tub on the deck was great. I would highly recommend Gretel Chalets Suizos.
- Luz (10/5): Exceptional - Great place and service Fabulous
- Baokiem (10/5): Exceptional - The place was beautiful! The hot tub and patio was a nice addition to relax at night or hang out with friends while overlooking the lake. There's was nothing to dislike. The stay was amazing.
- Mega (10/5): Wonderful Chalet near Guatape - We had an awesome stay at Gretel Chalets Suizos. The view from the chalet is incredible, the bed is comfortable, the wifi works properly, the living room is spacy and has all the mood lighting and amenities, and the reception was always responsive to our needs. The chalet is very bright in the morning, so bring an eye mask. Having breakfast on the balcony is great for the view, but since breakfast is only served from 8ish, it gets very hot there. It would be nice if there was an umbrella to cover it. It would also be great if the jacuzzi could be covered while not in use because leaves and other things may get inside and make it dirty.
- Nidhya (10/5): Exceptional - Great location, amazing views, great facilities, super helpful staff, awesome breakfast
- Anthony (9/5): Great stay overall! - The location and grounds were great. And the chalet was very comfortable. We really enjoyed the jacuzzi, and all the amenities. Last but not least, the staff was excellent. Water leak / small puddle in the kitchen.
- Anonymous (6/5): The concept is nice, but sadly - what it is in practice leaves much to be desired... - The place has an interesting concept, and as an idea it has potential - unfortunately, the execution is lacking. Noise from neighboring chalets - when you are subjected to other people's music (absence of) taste, this affects one's mood, and ability to sleep. Next - why plastic plants in the house and in the restaurant, when the surrounding areas around the house have such beautiful plants that are alive?! The stark contrast between plastic plants indoors vs real ones outside didn't make any sense. The chalets are not designed for tall people - you will have difficulty getting in and out of bed without injuring yourself. Finally, vegetarian and vegan food options were scarce. Having only two options for breakfast, of which one is inedible ('yogurt' offered with fruits and cereal is very liquidy beyond sweet soup-like thing) is not a rich breakfast choice, so if you are staying more than one day, get used to eating the same thing over and over again.
- María (10/5): Exceptional -
- Laura (9/5): Peaceful and beautiful stay - My husband and I loved our relaxing and peaceful stay at the Chalet. The beautiful lake and gardens on the property brought us a sense of peace. The balconies and jacuzzi were great. We slept like babies. The staff were very helpful and attentive and friendly, from assisting with calling tuk tuks to advising on when to climb the rock, to preparing delicious meals with the option of room service to cleaning and refreshing the chalet daily. Breakfast and dinner were delicious and the minibar in the room was well stocked. Since we stayed for 3 nights I would have preferred a little more variety in the breakfast and dinner options. The chalet did get rather warm inside mid day also, so either an extra fan with long cord or room darkening shades or air conditioner would have been nice. Thankfully though when the temperature cooled a little, opening the windows in the chalet cooled it down quickly.
- Shy-tyng (9/5): Superb -

- Sebastian (10/5): Exceptional -
- Maria (9/5): Best located Chalet in Guatape - The location and design of the place One of the receptionist in the morning was a bit unfriendly but still respectfull
- Martin (10/5): A perfect getaway operated by friendly and professional staff! - What’s not to like? The view, privacy, excellent restaurant, wifi, tv subscriptions, jacuzzi, safe feeling, walking distance to piedra de peñol and so on… Nothing
- Oscar (10/5): Exceptional -
- Anjli (10/5): Exceptional - Gretel was a quiet, serene and scenic place to stay during my visit to Guatapé. It is close to El Penon and Guatapé, a short ride by tuk tuk. The staff were lovely. The views are stunning and you will feel completely relaxed with the views and the chalet. Thanks Reena N/A
- Blandon (10/5): Exceptional -
- Jenifer (10/5): Exceptional -
- Carlos (8/5): Very relaxing time. - The feeling of the Alpine cabin. The friendly staff
The hydromassage spa at the deck is great. WiFi... chairs at the deck are very uncomfortable.
- Rubby (10/5): Exceptional -
- Victoria, (10/5): A dream stay - I love every last detail of this hotel. Staff food view just amazing amazing amazing Not one thing everything was perfect wish i could atay longer
- Scott (8/5): A stunningly attractive set of pavillions overlooking the reservoir with super attentive staff. - The graciousness of employees reminded me of the most gracious society I've ever encountered, Thailand, the land of smiles. Although the hotel had only 8 pavilions there were more employees than guests. The "chalets" were A-frame with downstairs having a sitting area, two parallel kitchen islands, and a deck overlooking the reservoir with a jacuzzi. The weather was, and always is, glorious: sunny, breezy with a maximum around 80 and a low around 62F. Air conditioning and heating are not needed in the region. The hotel is also just under 3 km to the colorful tourist and restaurant dense Guatape village. Tuk-tuks, such as in Thailand (Three-wheels with an air cooled motor) ferry you. The top of the A had the bed which was fine; the only issue was that the sun rose at 6 am and there were no blinds or curtains to keep them out. Also, for a senior person, the staircase was a bit challenging if one has to access the toilet during the night. I asked the staff to prepare the sofa bed for me the following nights. The A-frame design, while attractive, seem out of place here where there is never snow for which the steep roof would be useful; the black roofing material also absorbs heat which makes the upstairs bedroom a bit warm later in the day. The restaurant had a very limited menu with no local dishes, and I order room service as I was ill and almost bed-ridden.
- Erwin (10/5): Your very own Chalet - Everything is perfect. Location and Suite itself. The reception staff were not welcoming and friendly. However, the restaurant and cleaning staffs were all nice and friendly. Always smiling and helpful.
- Kelsey (9/5): Superb -
- Pedro (7/5): Challenging - Location and friendly staff Chalet did not have closet to hang clothing.
To reach the chalet you have to walk a cement path wich is irregular and dificult to move luggage also go down stairs with nimble railings to hold on “Dangerous”
- Francesca (10/5): Exceptional -
- Nora (10/5): Exceptional -
- Joseph (10/5): Exceptional -
- Luis (9/5): Confortable and relaxing - Nice concept
- Jeanise (9/5): Modern, environmentally friendly stay close to Guatapé and La Piedra - The property is just a short ride in Motochiva to Guatapé or La Piedra. The view of the “embalse de Guatapé” and La Piedra from this location is impressive. Modern, well furnished and the outside areas is just what you need to unwind and relax. It’s a very environmentally friendly property, which we absolutely loved. It can feel very cold at night and in the early morning, therefore the water takes a while to get warm at night and early in the morning. Even-though this wasn’t a deal breaker at all.
