Guest Reviews
- tümay (10/5): Özenli dekorasyon,çok temiz,tarihi doku korunmuş,kendine özelharika bir bahçesi var. -
- Snejana (10/5): - It was an excellent, unique and very historic experience for us.
- Alex (9/5): Feel of the history - Historical place, spacious room, very good breakfast made to order. Not easy to find. Google maps took us to a wrong place. Need better signposting.
- Robert (9/5): - A wonderful, unique experience. Host was very attentive. Room very clean and bed really comfortable.
A very memorable stay!
- Karen (10/5): - This beautiful hall is steeped in history, it's being restored absolutely impeccably. The grounds are stunning. The hosts are warm and friendly, and the bedroom was divine, particularly the slipper bath!
Can't wait to return. Thanks Matt and crew!
- Stefan (10/5): One of the most beautiful places we have ever stayed. You can tell this is a family run business by the amount of passio -
- Mike (10/5): Memorable and we will be back soon…!!!! - Unique property in an idealic location!! Nothing - it was amazing!!
- Tim (10/5): Great time at Sand Manor - We stayed at Sand Manor in early August and we enjoyed a very unique experience. Matt is a genuinely friendly and very kind host who is truly interested in his guests and who, if you ask him, is also willing to provide copious information about the history of the estate and the story of him and his family restoring this gem.
The whole building is renovated very tastefully and respectfully. We stayed in ‘The General’ room which is a real stunner and once accommodated Catherine of Aragon, the first wife of Henry VIII. The whole room boasts with style and provides all amenities you wish for. The seperate private bathroom is beautiful and cozy. The garden reminded us of our grandmas and it invites you to stroll or just sit there and enjoy peace and calm.
We also enjoyed a candlelight dinner in the great hall. @Patrick the beef goulash was delicious. Breakfast featured a lavish selection of delicacies and another pleasant chat with our host. To sum it up: go visit! What’s not to like?
- Häussermann (10/5): Absolutely wonderful! -
- Samuel (10/5): A countryside dream -
- Samantha (10/5): Peaceful, historic and luxurious - Stunning location with amazing hosts. So much history in the building and it felt like an adventure! Rooms were luxurious and it’s so peaceful. A kettle in the room would have been the icing on the cake but honestly it’s beautiful.

- Ibrahim (10/5): A truly unique experience, with the best service you’ll ever come across. - An absolutely incredible experience. The property itself was stunning and very well kept. It has a perfect balance of original features showcasing the historical significance of the building, whilst making sure that you have all the amenities you need to have a comfortable stay. The bedroom has a large bed, plenty of seating areas, a small desk and a beautiful large French Bath. We also had a private bathroom which was stunning and very comfortable, with a large shower. The gardens are beautiful, with a wide array of well kept flowers and trees overlooking a wonderful view of the valley behind. Above all, the service we received was second to none. The owners Matt and Gerty not only made us feel extremely welcome, but went above and beyond to give us an incredible experience for the night that we stayed. We were served wine and beer upon arrival with delicious aperitifs, followed by a delightful tapas style dinner with a unique Belgian beer. They really went above and beyond to make sure that we were happy and comfortable with everything and we couldn’t have been more pleased with the service, food and drinks that we received. Breakfast was also delicious and Matthew was asking about how he could cater to our wants and needs hours before we arrived, continuing to do so throughout.
It was truly a unique experience and something that we will absolutely be doing again - hopefully for longer than one night as it is such an incredible building with the most welcoming and hard working hosts that anyone could possibly ask for. It was all incredible, couldn’t have asked for more!
- Paul (10/5): A beautiful property with lovely hosts who can’t do enough for you. Will definitely stay again. - Everything about the property was exceptional. A lovely building which has been lovingly restored by Matt and Gerry Nothing dislikes
- Sally (10/5): A hidden gem in Devon - An outstanding house of historic importance with links to the Tudor court. The bedroom and bathroom were exceptional. A Woodburner in the bedroom and a traditional bath were a treat. Underfloor heating in the bathroom gave it a touch of luxury. Fabulously quiet.
- AB (10/5): Exquisite, magical and hidden historic house in a majestic, idyllic setting - This is a complete one off gem of a house and location. We couldn't believe our luck in staying here. Very sweet and interesting couple where nothing was too much. Room was enormous with its own special, individually designed bathroom, with every detail beautifully executed, including bespoke hand made walnut cornice, heated floor and rich, new cotton towels! Everything had been thought about. I laid in the lovely deep French bath, while my husband was downstairs infront of the fire in the Great Hall. Matt also offered us a grazing board and some homemade coliflower soup in the evening , which was perfect, as we just didn't want to go anywhere. Where else would you go ! Oh , and a surprise offering of belgium beer champagne from the cellar. These extra touches, although not advertised. made us really feel special and at home, rather than just another hotel (and we have been in many)! The bed was a super king with new, silky cotton sheets. Matt had the fire on when we arrived with a bottle of wine. Room was stunning and enormous with oak paneling that gave it a really cosy feel. We just sat in the big armchairs and so quiet and soothing, listening to the crackle of the fire
The breakfast was excellent , with so much on offer. Home made bread and fresh Croissants and honey and eggs from the house (scrambled eggs where excellent). Oat milk and gluten free options also.
I cannot thank them both enough and we have already talked about our next longer stay. Good luck in their future endeavours and opening this truly magical and peaceful place to us and others. There was really nothing more you could have wished for..
- Li (9/5): Great short break in a magnificent place - Location, Building and Hosts No ensuite bathroom
