Guest Reviews
- Madison (10/5): Perfect location and perfect room! - The room was perfect for what we needed. I loved the location being right next to where we wanted to ski. There is also a bus stop right out the front so very easy to get to the other mountains. Nothing
- อรจิรา (4/5): - พนีกงานต้อนรับน่ารักมาก สกปรกและเสียงดังมากไม่แนะนำสำหรับคนต้องการความสงบ
- Jacob (10/5): Awesome spot - Very convenient location
- Grant (8/5): Great spot great stuff -
- John Arne (7/5): good skiing, nice people, cool resort - very nice staff, cool atmosphere, good location breakfast too simple, needs more space for quiet indoor living

- Tessa (10/5): - Really comfortable, great location, incredible staff (especially Jason, naturally so kind and helpful, would stay anywhere that had him on team). I didn't mind this at all but it may be not great for some. The lodge is above the bar so very convenient but not super quiet, if that is something you are looking for.
- Velazquez (8/5): -
- John Arne (7/5): Flott beliggenhet, enkel standard, flott personale - Beliggenhet og personale Manglet sosiale rom
- Matusch (9/5): Good value, away from the crowds - Great location, wonderful staff, good value for money. The slopes near us would have been better if we weren't beginners. The heater in our room was smelly but the staff came to check it out very quickly.
- Marty (5/5): - Location Food downstairs extraordinarily average
- Megan (9/5): -

- yining (10/5): 非常棒 - 距离雪场非常近,步行可达,门口就是V2站点,出行去其他雪场也很方便。员工也很好,协助解答很多问题

- Richard (9/5): A warm feeling about this Japanese-themed, Aussie-run, good value lodge in Hakuba Cortina. - This hotel/lodge was exactly as advertised and it does exactly what it says on the tin. Aussie-run, few frills but cheerful with a warm and cosy vibe. The staff are welcoming, friendly and genuinely helpful, with the benefit of their experience beyond their immediate remit.
Though you can walk a few yards to ski if the resort-lifts are open in Norrikura, the fact that the Hakuba Valley Shittle ski bus stops right outside, for Cortina in one direction and the other Hakuba Valley reports in the other is really handy.
A limited but very decent menu in the bar from lunchtime until late, and other Japanese restaurants in the same building makes this a really convenient place to come back to after a tiring day on the hill.
I travelled with two boys, and this is a family friendly place to stay with the option of rooms with bunk beds. Breakfast (especially the cooked platter) was good, with fresh scrambled egg and nicely dressed salad - better than one might expect. It could be improved by putting out jug of freshly percolated coffee in place of the instant granules or the sachets. When they could, the staff did offer a jug so maybe the machine just needs fixing.
- Audra (10/5): Exceptional -
- Jenkins (2/5): Drunk guests beating up another guest topped off the trip. - Staff were friendly. Resort was close. Breakfast was sufficient No sense of security. Everynight there was drunken austalian guests banging around and yelling. Our last night there a group of drunk australians were yelling downstairs for an hour. They eventually kicked down a door and beat a guest bloody. And still noone from management came to check on the screaming. Unnaceptable.
- Kaye (7/5): Good -
- Katie (4/5): Poorly managed lodge below expectations - It was walking distant to the Norikura and Cortina chairlifts The lodge isn’t well managed, there was a fight that happened one night on the 2nd floor, some guys were bashing so hard on the door and woke us up on the 3rd floor, and then a holiday staff from the mezzanine level also heard it and rushed down to the second floor to assist. However, the Japanese manager that was stationed on the second floor didn’t care to show up until the holiday staff went to find him. The fight happened on the same floor and yet he’s reluctant to even come out to help.
Also, the triple room we stayed in was very small, even for Japanese standard. We have 2 people and the room is already very crammed. There’s no dressing area from the bathroom, you basically needs to walk out naked into the Tatami room. No floor mat provided we need to ask the staff and they gave us an extra towel to use as floor mat. There’s only 3 hooks in the whole room, no hangers either, so you either use those hooks to hang your towels, or ur jackets.
We stayed 6 nights, no change of bin or towel. The reception is staffed from 7-10am, and then 4-7pm, and half the time no staffs are there. There’s a WhatsApp number, which I’ve never got a response.
The breakfast was alright. Dry room isn’t really dry, they use a small heater for the room, and a couple of times we find the heater was off for some reason, and our boots are still wet. There were a couple of parking spots by the lodge, and 3 spaces in the front for staffs, and for 2 days in a row, the lodge’s van was parked at the parking spots for guests while their staff use parking was empty!
In terms of location, there’s a bus stop right outside the lodge, but literally there’s nothing around the area. Only good thing is it’s less than a 5 mins walk to the Norikura and Cortina lifts.
Overall, the price was on the cheaper end, but I’ve stayed near Happo-one with similar price point and was much better. Would not recommend this place, and am very surprised on their high ratings.
- Rachael (7/5): Good - The location was good... once you figured out where you were... as it's not really in Cortina but at Satomi which is in-between Cortina and Norikura. So if you are coming by bus make sure that you get off at Satomi and don't stay on until the final stop at Cortina! The staff were nice. There are no shops at all in walking distance... not even a tiny convenience store, and just a couple of western type restaurants...... pizza, burgers, Mexican ( with good margaritas!). They were fine but it would have been nice to some Japanese food close by without having to take a bus.
- Adam (10/5): Exceptional - Luckily I was able to get a booking last minute! Loved being close to cortina and having the bus stop right outside the front door. Very convenient 👌 Little bit of a younger crowd, not that I didn't like, but I'm not much of a partier! It's a good thing if you like to be social and have cool people to hang out with for some night life in the sleep village of Satomi!
- Mark (5/5): Young, loud and drunk Australians. - Location to Hakuba cortina was great. Very loud, thin walls. Can hear everything.
- Hough (7/5): Great for a single person travelling - So close to the slopes and bus stop ! Walls are so thin, beds are average
- Domina (8/5): Easy going vibe, great access to amazing skiing, comfortable beds and warm hospitality - Great to have the restaurant downstairs for breakfast and other meals. Super close to slopes. Staff were very helpful in organising shuttles to other resorts. Manager truly went above and beyond to support us with a number of fumbles across our trip and we are forever grateful. The reception is closed from 10am to 4pm which is a bit inconvenient but you can contact on WhatsApp. Restaurant had limited menu. Not really anything else food wise in the area but you can make do with Ubers etc
- En (7/5): Convenient location, friendly staff, clean shared bathrooms - Good location, very clean, working heater Wrapping the duvet/comforter in 2 flat bedsheets was terrible. The sheets kept coming out at night, causing us to touch the dirty comforter inside. Would suggest using a proper outer sheet.
- Andreas (10/5): Exceptional -

- Wenonah (6/5): Pleasant - Was a comfortable stay. Restaurant was not great, overpriced an understaffed. Have to rely on bus or taxi service to get to any facilities which are a good 15-30 min drive, wouldn't recommend for families better for couples or friend groups. Staff friendliness saved it from a negative experience. Restaurant had long wait times with only one staff member serving and cooking and the food was bellow average.
- Alec (10/5): Most relaxing part of our Japan trip - Friendly staff, breakfast each morning was perfect
Very relaxing
Pool table is unreal
- Natasha (7/5): Good - Gas heater in the room was good
Liked that there was a washing machine and dryer
Staff were very helpful in organising ski hire Pillows were a bit hard
- Edward (4/5): Only stay here as a last resort or if you want to feel like you're in Australia. - Breakie was good. Location was close to Cortina. Rooms were clean. Staff are friendly. There is no where nearby to eat decent food for dinner and the transport is relatively expensive to go for dinner every night. ($32AUD for a couple return on the bus)
All the staff and occupants were sick and we all got sick staying there. Most guests appeared to get sick as well.
There were staff/bogan Australian mountain staff fighting in the street outside several nights in a row at 1-2am. I got woken up most nights by staff talking or stomping around at 2-3am as the walls are very thin.
The place feels like a university dorm.
- Cole (7/5): Great over all experience but I would do some comparisons before staying again. - Great location basically on hill of a resort town. Friendly staff and easy to get around. Great Value for money. They sell ski passes to the best hill at a discounted rate. Basically it's a Hostel. It should advertise itself as such. Obviously its great value but a few small changes would have truly elevated our experience.
There were no hand towels or dryers in any of the bathrooms. The bedding was dated and musty. The bar attached is too loud too late. I shouldn't be listening to base at 11pm when its dumping snow and Im trying to sleep for a ski day. Bring ear plugs. The walls are thin.
- Jennifer (9/5): Super friendly base for skiing/boarding Cortina and Norikura - Agree with others: super friendly and always super helpful staff (particular thanks to Taka, Maya and Shaun), great location less than 5 minutes walk from the slopes, where you strap in and ski/ride down ~150m to Alps Lift number 8. From the top it's an easy traverse across to Cortina Lift 6 and access all of Cortina. These closest lifts were never busy, even during our stay at LNY. Sadly, Alps Lift 9 broke a few weeks before our arrival. This lift would have also given easy access to Norikura, but instead getting there required a undulating 250m skate/push/walk (or bus). However, you can ski/ride back from Alps Lift 6.
Staff make it easy to organise lift passes (can buy each day, ¥5600 in 2025 to access both Cortina and Norikura). They can do transfers, but the Hakuba Valley bus stop, Satomi, to all of the other resorts is literally just outside. Daytime bus frequency are 1 or 2 an hour and cost ¥800 no matter the distance.
There is a large drying room to access from outside to store and hang gear, then walk inside. Easy. Could leave luggage after checking out by 10am, ski/ride the day and then get the bus to Nagano.
The bar downstairs was definitely popular, with many from the Hakuba Cortina Hostel around the corner spending time in the evening there. Each night had something on, such as pool tournament, and it was full and loud as you would think. This wasn't a problem for us as we expected it, but probably not great for families. However, our room on the 3rd floor at the back was always quiet, and we never felt disturbed. Restaurant only does burgers, pizza, bar snacks, etc. Not much else in the area, lots closed during Covid.
Stayed in a double ensuite 'western' room. Room was small (which was expected), not lots of storage space, just a large shelf with a rail for hangers underneath. Would benefit from adding hooks/hanging points of the back of the door and walls. Only one socket. Terrestrial TV and hairdryer. Unfortunately, a big (and suprising minus) for us was no sink in the room. While there was a tap as part of the shower stall, washing hands, brushing teeth, shaving and sorting out a menstrual cup (sorry if TMI) was not fun. It seems not all rooms lack this feature, but it would be THE reason we wouldn't return.
- Christopher (1/5): We were heavily reliant on the location and hotel that didn't have much to offer. - The only thing we liked was the location and staff, everything else was a let down. You are steps away from the slopes. They have slightly cheaper ski tickets for Cortina. 1. Very thin walls. You will hear doors open and close at all hours of the night and early morning. You can hear people snoring from the floor above you. You will hear when someone else flushes their toilet. You will hear people walking up and down stairs
2. The breakfast was the same thing every day, only scrambled eggs, maybe bacon or maybe mini hot dogs? I have celiac disease and I don't eat meat. I couldn't eat the cereal or toast. I was very hungry, because their restaurant and the business next door were the only restaurants in town.
3. The hotel is in a remote area with no grocery or convenience stores. So if you have allergies or celiac disease your only options are the hotel restaurant that is burgers or the mexician spot next store. The workers of the hotel go to a grocery for themselves but will charge you to go with them. They only have hot water and no microwaves to reheat food. No refrigerator.
- Pollett (9/5): Superb -
- Crystal (7/5): Good - Breakfast was good. The staff were friendly and helpful. We loved how quiet the area is and away from the hustle and bustle. We could skii home from Norikura. Loved our stay! Location was a bit far from food shops and restaurants than we expected. To much of a mission to catch the shuttle into town every afternoon after a big day of skiing. We would definitely stay at Cortina Lodge and in this area again however we would get a hire car.
- Emese (10/5): Exceptional - If you are looking for a place to feel yourself welcomed, just book here. Amazing staff, their friendliness is on the highest level 🤗
- Boon (2/5): Room was small, ill-equipped, and not serviced daily. - Friendly staffs Almost everything
- Simon (9/5): Superb -
- Almeida (7/5): Good value for money. - Friendly staff, close to the lifts. Overall a good value for money and great location. Heating system was diesel so the room would be smelling diesel fumes. No coffee/tea available for guests during the day.
- Hanxu (10/5): Best lodge ever! Do miss it! - It's the best lodge I've ever stayed at! It's very clean and cozy. There is a dry room that helps you dry all your gear. The vibe makes me feel at home. There’s an Endless Pub open until late evening, just downstairs from the lodge. The burgers, pizzas, and drinks are amazing! I highly recommend the Endless Burger, Teriyaki Chicken Pizza, and Chuhai (a soju-based drink).
I also met a lot of friends there who love sharing their skiing experiences.
Breakfast is included, with a variety of options such as yogurt, bacon, eggs, coffee, juice, toast, etc.
The staff are incredibly helpful. I would particularly like to thank Taka—he helped me sort out a tricky late pickup on New Year's Eve. I really appreciate your help! I also enjoyed chatting with all the staff.
The chairlift to Cortina Ski Resort is just 150 meters away from the lodge, and Cortina is also connected to Norikura Resort.
The HV Shuttle Bus to other ski resorts stops right at the entrance (Satomi Stop). If you're a beginner, you can always enjoy Tsugaike Ski Resort, which is just two stops away from Satomi.
I will definitely come back for the next snow season! Can I say nothing?
- Blythe (8/5): Our stay at Hakuba Cortina Lodge was a nice and convenient place to spend the second half of our trip! - Cozy, affordable, close to ski resort. Quiet area. Not many food options in the area.
- Jason (10/5): Exceptional -
- Andrew (9/5): Superb -
- Faber (9/5): Superb - The location was fantastic, right on the slopes next to a ski-lift. The staff were very helpful and arranged ski-equipment and lift passes for us. Included breakfast was a bonus and convenient before a big day on the slopes.
- Peter (10/5): Exceptional -
- Katie (10/5): Exceptional - Enough room for family of 5. Food was great. Staff were friendly. The location is perfect for resort choices.
- Alex (7/5): Perfect room for snowboard bums to relax and set up their gear. - The room was very nice!! Discount ski passes at the desk. Cozy bar. No place to heat or store food, the restaurant below had few options and was more expensive than others in the area.
- Abby (10/5): Exceptional -
- Ed (10/5): Classic five stars - Awesome location for Cortina and friendliest local staff in the area
- Matthew (8/5): Very good -
- Jordan (10/5): Thanks to the whole team for making this trip one of a kind. I'll come back next year for sure :) -
- Tahlia (10/5): Highly recommend if you’re looking for a home away from home vibe. The staff are kind and accommodating. Couldn’t fault - Close to lifts with a welcoming and happy atmosphere. The room was clean and comfortable with exceptional value for money. It was too good, now I will spend all my money coming back each year.
- Valentina (10/5): I had a great experience at Cortina Lodge, comfortable, friendly and fun! - Amazing location to the slopes! Great staff, very friendly, helpful and fun! Located a little far from restaurants for dinner. Recommend getting your own vehicle.
- Kieran (10/5): Exceptional -
- Vojtech (8/5): Very good - The location is perfect, right next to the lifts to both mountains. The staff is nice and breakfast was good.
- Rebecca (10/5): Exceptional -
- Nico (8/5): Close to onsen and skiing area - Close to onsen and skiing area, burger restaurant and bar directly in lodge Looked a bit messy and room was quite noisy
- Daniel (10/5): Excellent would recommend to anyone going to Hakuba - The property and people that worked there are great and will help you out with absolutely anything, so close to go snowboarding just at the end of the street. 10/10, will be back again for sure. Nothing
- Katie (10/5): Exceptional - Easy walk to the ski lift, friendly staff and owners. Breakfast was also great before skiing! The room was bigger than we expected Beer at the hotel bar was a bit pricey
- Jamie (7/5): Overall it was a very pleasant experience the staff were extremely helpful and the facilities were adequate for a family - Location was excellent The breakfast kitchen was disappointing
- Ian (8/5): Great hosts, amazing location and good value for money - Before we arrived Mel was very helpful in answering my questions. From the moment we were picked up from the train station the staff were first rate and made us feel right at home.
We really liked how quiet the area was, perfect for young families.
The breakfast was great. Despite the staff being on hand to take us back and forth from the station, slopes etc.. which they were always more than happy to do, it would be good to have formalised shuttle service schedule.
