Guest Reviews
- CathieP (9/5): Great spot off the main roads - I loved the amazing bird song when we stepped out if the car, close enough to town to walk but far enough to be well away from it all. We couldn't figure out the TV, but hey.....we didn't need it

- Nola Nicholson (10/5): - Gardens were beautiful. Cottage was lovely with the loft rooms. So quaint. Fruits and flowers from the garden in the room. A real gem. Everything was perfect.
- Michele (9/5): - Loved the vibe of the unit, classic country manor house vibe. Unit had separate living room on main level with access to private court yard. Location perfect distance to downtown Akaroa, with lovely views of the surrounding hills. Mature gardens with plenty of native birds, even a NZ Pigeon was spotted. Cute pond with a very old goldfish enjoying life.
- Don Borelli (10/5): - Sehr hilfsbereites Personal, mit Wandervorschlägen.
Tolle Lage in der Natur etwas ausserhalb von Akaroa. Ohne Fahrzeug und mit Gepäck kann das mühsam sein. Alles bestens.
- Chris (8/5): -
- Jennifer (10/5): - Friendly arrival. Very private and extremely cute. I loved sitting in the attic bedroom listening to the birds and seeing greenery out of every window.
- Jeffrey (10/5): - Difficult to find, although I must confess to not reading instructiobs prior to arriving.
So cannot say how easy it would have been had I read tgem. Nevertheless, a bigger sign on the entrance to path on tge main road would make it much easier
- Sabine (8/5): - Rustige ligging, zeer aardige gastheer en gastvrouw.
Aangename bosgeluiden. Geen
- Gail (10/5): Morning bird chorus starts my day. - The fresh bread, jam and coffees were worth waking up for. The location and cottage itself were absolutely gorgeous. I could be their gatekeeper forever!
Lovely, friendly folks with an playful pup. I didn't like that I had to leave.
- Gary (8/5): Suited our purpose. - Breakfast OK, but given one french loaf on arrival, and no more for a two night stay? Not much, but breakfast as above.
- Sarah (9/5): Peaceful for a short getaway ~ Very friendly and accommodating hosts - Very friendly hosts and the cottage was very quiet and comfortable. Perfect for what we needed.
- Kristy (8/5): - Beautiful surroundings, with a courtyard and garden.
Friendly owners, beautiful flowers in the cottage for our arrival. Quality breakfast options and even some fruit provided.
Really enjoyed our stay. It was so peaceful and great location!
- pierre (10/5): Très agréable ! - On se sent très bien dans le logement. Cadre très joli.
- Kate (10/5): Incredibly stunning - Gorgeous property, friendly and accommodating hosts,
- Amos (9/5): Waking up to birdsong - We stayed two nights and greatly enjoyed the hospitality of our hosts (and their lovely dog). The cottage was homely and comfortable, and it was lovely waking up to birdsong every morning. Note that the bedroom is up a narrow flight of steps, so we kept our luggage down in the sitting room by the entrance. We had lovely walks up to the vineyard and met the local sheep, and the main town area of Akaroa is just a short 4mins drive away.
- malcolm (10/5): We enjoyed our 3-nights immensely and highly recommend Gatekeepers Cottage. - The overall setting is beautiful; surrounded by a lovely expansive garden and nestled in the hills of the Banks Peninsula. The most comfortable bed and pillows imaginable and with lovely linen, quality sleep almost certainly a given!
- Philippe (9/5): Emplacement à refaire en été NZ - L'accueil des propriétaires , le contact facile , les informations disponibles pour féd randonnées pédestres
Une baguette de pain 😃

- Murray (5/5): Average to be honest - The location was beautiful The fridge didn’t look the lights worked but the motor didn’t so our milk went off and we couldn’t chill our bubbles. Also someone had put a used teabag in tea container and the lids where broken.
- Julie (10/5): Great, would stay again. - Private location, beautiful setting amongst lots of bird life.
Really comfortable bed and had everything we needed in the property to make a really enjoyable stay. There was a hiccup with our booking, we werent expected. But after contacting our host, very promptly arrived and sorted everything out.
Welcomed with fresh bread, homemade jam and a lovely bowl with fruit and fresh tomatoes.

- Garry (10/5): Peace and charm - So peaceful. Beautiful setting. Paula and Pete had thought of everything you might need. Rustic charm . We had a car problem and they were very helpful and caring. At the top of a steep hill, no problem for us but a car is a necessity
- Jane (10/5): Exceptional - Beautiful self-contained, private, and peaceful accommodation in a rural setting. We had our own private outside space with loungers and a bistro set. We were able to walk around the hosts land visiting the sheep and their very friendly dog, Beau. Easy short drive into the main area of Akoroa. Our hosts were very friendly, personable, and helpful. They made us feel very welcome . Totally recommend a stay here. Leaving!

The little courtyard out front cough all day sunshine, it was lovely to take in the evening sun. Paula and Peter were very friendly and welcoming hosts. The lounge area is downstairs but the kitchenette is upstairs in the bedroom area. Not a biggie.
- Michelle (10/5): Holiday summer break - We had an excellent trip away, such a lovely location just out of the main centre and peaceful.
Good sized rooms so we could spread out.
Very friendly hosts including their dog. Mosquitoes so be sure to cover up or wear bug repellent outdoors.
- Agne (10/5): Something very special - Small and cozy stay away from city noise. Mountains and green views, lovely french city, Lovely people. Much privacy, very nice house. It was our best stay during 3 weeks we were in NZ. Place is located in old volcano crater, so it was amazing and beautiful. Many birds, lambs, walking roads, amazing views and large hares in the garden. PS- there was gold fishes in our garden pool! :)

Not walking distance to the town, but just park at the start of the street and its easy walking from there. We were lucky to meet Peter and Paula who were lovely and genuinely care about their guests.
