Guest Reviews
- John (8/5): - no breakfast the weather.
- Paul (7/5): A quirky interesting place full of antiques and interesting books. It was fun - Coffee was available, but only one tea bag . Fortunately as a good Brit I had several in my suitcase. The saucepans were old and poor. Crockery limited
- Ben (10/5): Very different from the average hotel chain, but in a good way. Would thoroughly recommend! - The location was perfect for me - the lodge itself was warm and inviting, very quaint and charming. A selection of DVDs to watch, and a whole array of books to peruse, plus board games to boot. A clean little kitchenette, with coffee milk and sugar provided, which I was very grateful for after a long drive! Everything was perfect, a charming host and a lovely property too.
- Robert (8/5): -
- Farr (8/5): Quirky and convenient stay. - Very welcoming and homely.
Location was great for us.
Breakfast served to us in room. It was a bit cold.
- Hann (8/5): Really nice accommodation - Remote and quiet, everything to hand
- Rosina (9/5): Lovely quiet qwerky -
- emily (10/5): Second time staying, I love it here - Host was very accommodating as I arrived a bit late
- julie (9/5): Lovely host, all round excellent. - Easy to find, dog friendly , warm and cosy Mould around the shower base.
- Rhian (9/5): Nice apartment with a lovely host - I liked that it was an apartment
Not too far away from Carmarthen
- Lyn (10/5): Comfortable and quirky - The bed was comfy, parking right outside the door, cosy and warm, nice kitchen and fascinating collection of books and antiques.
The photos of the driveway were a great help in finding the place. It was a bit tricky turning out of the drive onto the road but I appreciate there's nothing the host can do about that. If we wanted to go left we found it easier to turn right and then turn round a little way down the road. We were in a long wheelbase van though.
- Alex (10/5): -
- Nick (5/5): -
- Valerio (8/5): Pleasant stay - Spacious studio with a separate kitchen and a good parking area. Would have liked to have a bit more kitchenware to cook with as we like to have homemade meals at the end of a long day out
- Paul (10/5): Excellent cosy cottage, loads of character - Beautiful cottage full of character and lovely furnishings. Cosy and warm. Dog friendly with walking in the grounds. Charming host. We couldn't find the entrance to property at first so maybe a bigger sign at the entrance to the drive
- John & Shirley (9/5): very very good - It took a little finding but well worth it, we arrived a little early but they made us tea and coffee which we appreciated and enjoyed in the garden. The Host was more than welcoming, and we would stay again
- Maria Laura (9/5): - Appartamento molto carino, unica stanza ma arredata in modo particolare
La signora molto gentile e disponibile
Cucina ben attrezzata Niente
- Brian (9/5): - Frances was very nice and made my wife feel very welcome
- Rory (9/5): Will definitely book again when we visit Carmarthen. - Friendly & helpful host with excellent knowledge of the local area.
Very nice cooked breakfast. Nothing
- emily (10/5): Perfect base to explore the local area with knowledgeable and accommodating hoas - Frances the hoast was amazing, full of local knowledge and so accommodating. An them views š²š²š² place was clean and tidy and had the biggest comfy bed ever.
Was a perfect place to stay if you want to see the local area, many many attractions all within 30mins drive.
Fantastic little pub on the river 10 mins walk away with friendly locals and helpful staff.
As a unexpected 2 night stay, I don't think I could have picked better, will definitely be back thank you so much for having me and the boys x Local shop is a drive away, didn't bother me but would have been nice to know, expecialy as self catering and had dogs.... You always forget something and would have been nice to just walk the dogs to grab some bread ect
Personal opinion, too much furniture in the barn, it's not needed and can be bit of a squeeze getting around.
Would have liked an outside table and chairs, just to admire the view, but the chairs indoors were easy enough to move outside
- bubbles1231964 (2/5): very bad and disappointed wouldn't go again - host handed them to us after she had to find us as we were lost the pillows were hard, bed was uncomfortable, couldn't sleep because of traffic noise, we couldn't cook as the oven door wouldn't close, if dogs got out it would be straight onto the main road, there was no secure area as we assumed by the advert listing, we sent her a message before we went to comfirm that there was a secure area, and she didn't reply until Saturday morning when it was too late
- Jennifer (10/5): - Amazing couple. What an interesting place. I would recommend your stay here. And the pub down te road (did t look great) but what a pleasant surprise. Oh wow fresh beautiful food. Pizza was like we get in Italy. And so reasonable price Nothing all great
- Spilsbury (9/5): Great -
- Nigel (9/5): Superb - One of a kind charming accommodation in a converted farm building, with beautiful antiques and an amazing collection of books. The host, Frances, could not be more welcoming, and we loved our tasty breakfast under the special oak tree. The home made marmalade was the best!
- Danesi-crombie (4/5): Disappointing -
- Edward (9/5): Perfect weekend break - Lovely sized room and the bed was the most comfortable Iāve ever slept on. Frances was a wonderful host and made us feel very welcome.
- Robyn (9/5): This is a wonderful relaxing place to stay. - Ty Cambria is a converted barn near the farmhouse but separate. Frances was there to help if needed.
We had a lovely stay. The facilities in the kitchen and the table and chairs and lounge were great. The bed was very comfy and the heaters warmed the room easily. The shower had good natural lighting and most of the time that was all that was needed. The WiFi was great. The view from the cottage was wonderful overlooking the fields and there was the lowing of cows to be heard at times. The only thing that we would have like to have had was a freezer section to the fridge as we had freezer bricks that needed to be frozen to keep our food cold as we travel.
- Martin (9/5): QUIRKY AND COMFY AND GREAT PLACE - lovely friendly host, great room with bathroom and kitchen, lots of amazing old books and antiques, loved it would love to stay again and longer!
- Urszula (8/5): I recommend it and we will definitely go back there. - wonderful owner, very nice and caring. A quiet place and a lot of space. I highly recommend this place for people with dogs. Atmosphere and decor.
- Martin (1/5): Bad -
- Scott (8/5): Ideal little place in a beautiful setting - Well equipped quirky property lovely comfy bed
In a beautiful setting Plates and cutlery had not been previously washed up properly
- Sarah (7/5): Lovely place notb - Self catering .near to running cycling path and carmathen only 15 min drive . Milk on arrival
Clean property Quite busy road noise from room
- Tatiana (8/5): A lovely, comfortable stay in a convenient location ā Iād happily come back! - I stayed here with my dog over the Easter weekend and had a great time. The host was very friendly and accommodating. The location was ideal for my plans ā I was attending a three-day running event in Pembrey and also got to explore several nearby castles. The house was cozy, well-equipped, and had everything I needed for a comfortable stay. Itās also very dog-friendly, with a spacious yard that was perfect for short walks and letting my dog stretch his legs ā a big plus! Even though the listing mentioned there was no Wi-Fi, it had recently been added, which was a very pleasant surprise and much appreciated. Some of the cookware could use an upgrade ā a few pots and pans were quite worn, and some basic utensils were a bit limited or dated. It wasnāt a major issue, but if you plan on doing a lot of cooking, itās something to keep in mind. Also, the shower water didnāt get as hot as I would have liked, especially after a cold, rainy run. Though to be fair, I may not have figured it out properly.
- Rob (10/5): Thanks Frances x - Everything Nothing
- Helen (2/5): The second worst bed and brekfast I have visited. - The head of the bed is less than 10 feet from the A40 trunk road. The headboard is loose. The kitchen sink tap was loose in the worktop. The cooker had grease down the sides and the oven door would not close, the pans were no longer non stick, there was only one mug for 2 persons staying. None of the heating was turned on although it was going to be a frosty night.
The breakfast turned out to be an optional extra on top of what I had paid. I was told that normally there would have been home made bread and home made marmalade and eggs but it just so happened that after I had agreed to pay none of these things were available. £7 for bacon and baked beans on stale shop toast and make your own drink was very poor value for money. I should have just gone to the Weatherspoon. The entrance to the property is extremely narrow. Pulling out there is very poor visibility onto a fast straight stretch of trunk A road.
- Megan (10/5): Loved this room - Very large room, lots of space. Nice shower room. Fast internet. You can hear the traffic from the road quite well.
- Sarah (8/5): Loveky quirky self catering room - Its spacious , has kitchen and bathroom , location perfect for what i needed Next to busy road . Traffic noise in morning
- Trussler (9/5): Quirky, comfy and impressive - The space was lovely furnished with some unusual antique pieces and with the old dairy wooden beams was very atmospheric, with nice private entrance space and parking, really good kitchen and bathroom facilities and everything necessary for comfort. The local village pubs were all closed and didn't have food readily available so we went to Carmarthen town instead.
- Ian (7/5): It worked well for me and was situated conveniently between 2 groups of hills I was walking in. - Breakfast was good - it was self-catering! Shower was good, bed was comfortable. Frances sent me pictures of the drive from the main road so I could easily find it. There was no availability of TV or Wifi, although both seemed to be there. Not working? The kitchen would benefit from some new pans. There was a step down from the main room to the Kitchen and to the bathroom, and the one to the bathroom was not noticeable until I'd tripped over it. It could do with some bright tape or such to make it more obvious
- Sarah (8/5): Great place to stay will stay again - Self sufficient . Tea ,coffee milk provided and has microwave kettle and toaster for self catering .
Is lovely and independant . Internet great and tv / books if needed . Bed comfy and can adjust radiators for warmth if needed . Spacious and car parking available Road noise
- James (9/5): Met all our expectations -
- Mark (10/5): Nice couple of days rest - Nice place to stay, good location and very interesting items in the rooom. Despite being sent photos finding the drive was not easy.
- Fiona (5/5): Passable -
- Lynda (10/5): My stay - Lovely secluded place nice hosts Nothing
- Jennifer (10/5): Exceptional - A greet base for exploring Carmarthenshire. Accommodation all as described. The host described the entrance perfectly and, as it wasn't obvious it immediately became a private sanctuary.
- Raja (10/5): Exceptional -
- Jon (8/5): Very good -
- Trevor (8/5): Very good -
- Elaine (6/5): Pleasant -
- Lynda (10/5): carmarthen - very comfortable bed great kitchen and bathroom instant hot water and very secluded
- Gemma (10/5): Little Welsh beauty - Beautiful place to stay. Central for my needs. Views are awesome.
Quiet at night.... bed was so comfy.
Everything you need for a self contained, self catered break. Facilities were spot on
5* for my needs. having to.come home!!!
- Marylyn (4/5): Premises were good for short 1 or 2 night stay but not suitable for 5 days. - Location No working TV, felt like sleeping in an Antique shop. No where to put clothes away. Grill pan was rusty. No bread bin.
Place very dusty.
- William (8/5): Comfortable and good value for money - The cosy room No TV or Wi-Fi
- Andrew (7/5): Ideal location for visiting local castles, great walks and the National Botanic Garden of Wales. -
- Iona (10/5): Very peaceful beautiful setting -artistic historic cultural and very Welsh . Absolutely loved it - Beautiful location near to Carmarthen and other beuatiful locations. The apartment was unique and stunnningly gorgeous, intriguing and fill of history and personality. Felt like home as I was born in Abergwili Nothing it was incredible
- Philip (10/5): Exceptional - What lovely place to stop for a couple of days the house was absolutely lovelyand quirky Leon breakfast on both days all I can say one of the best breakfast I've had in a long while and the homemade marmalade and bread with superb
- Stephen (10/5): Exceptional -
- Das (9/5): Hosts were lovely, it was more like visiting a friend or a family. - Convenient location on A40. We enjoyed both dinner and the breakfast. Warm welcome from the host was a bonus All good. Nothing much to say here.
- Michael (9/5): Superb - The quirkyness of the room, the mass of books covering such a wide range of interests. It was ideal for our needs. Noise of A40, but not a lot can be done about that.
- Irene (8/5): Very friendly and helpful host. All amenities required were on site. - Comfy beds and goos shower Internet intermittent but not a problem
- Melanie (8/5): Peaceful and cosy - Very peaceful place and very relaxing, the bed was amazingly comfy, great scenery all around It was a little hard to find and we went past twice, it is quite a sharp turn to get to the property if turning right into it.
- Stephen (8/5): Absolutely lovely. NOT modern. Rustic and lovely. I would happily spend winter there reading books and writing letters i - It was a private cottage. Rustic and beautiful. Full of old furniture and books. Like staying in a library. Lovely smells of beeswax and wood. Couple of really small steps into bathroom and kitchen that are easy to miss and stub your toe on.
- Aaron (10/5): Exceptional -
- Simon (8/5): Quaint and Welcoming - The host was fantastic, really welcoming and the place felt extremely homely.I settled in immediately. The only down side was the properties proximity to the A40,literally the other side of a wall behind the bed. Traffic didn't calm down until quite late so was unable to sleep until after eleven o'clock when the road noise calmed. As an early riser this put a bit of a dampner on the experience. However I am a light sleeper so this is very much a personal observation.
- Raymond (9/5): A completely different and refreshing experience - The breakfast was excellent and made to order - original and delicious.
The accommodation was very good with an excellent library of interesting books.
We had tea sitting outside under an old tree with wonderful views of the surrounding landscape.
Our host, Frances, was friendly and helpful and nothing was too much trouble. Nothing
- Rosie (10/5): a cosy home from home with a delightful host! - the aesthetics of the room once it got dark and i turned all the lamps on was sooooo cosy! this is the perfect place to rest after exploring - itās right on the a40 but you canāt hear the road once youāre all tucked in, and it was a nice walk down to the nearest pub. ample parking for two cars. Pitchfork and Provision in Llandrindod is great for a ācrunchyā/healthy breakfast. photos are of Grain in carmarthen, cosy place for a nice pint. my navigation app took me to another place miles away as thereās a caravan park of the same name. so i recommend using these co-ordinates 51.87371° N, 4.18558° W if using google maps/apple maps/waze to find the property. itās on the A40 between Nantgaredig and Pontargothi, thereās a sign at the top of the driveway with the postcode on it.
- Ann (8/5): A characterful, charming and welcoming place to stay - The character and charm of the place, the collection of interesting old books, the furniture and overall atmosphere. Frances the host is lovely and welcoming and is an exceptionally good cook, breakfast was delicious. She is very kind and welcoming which makes all the difference after a long day travelling.
- Eluned (8/5): A wonderful place to stay on the A40 in Carmarthenshire - I loved the comfortable wide mattress and cotton bedlinen. I really loved all the old mahogany furniture and lovely books on the big bookcases. The bathroom was good, shower good though water pressure variable, probably depending on whether taps were being run in the main house across the drive. The kitchen is small but fine for cooking food in and on the electric cooker, toaster and microwave. The hostess was very pleasant and friendly. No breakfast requested or provided. The drive was rather bumpy for a low slung car. The exterior of the property is rather...under-decorated but the interior is amazing, if you like books and interesting furnishings.
- Alan (3/5): We have been with Booking.com for a number of years, and this is by far our worst experience. - The location. The accomodation was very cold on arrival and the host was not there to meet us. The host did come later to adjust the heating which then turned itself off later in the evening, which resulted in us sleeping fully clothed. There was no TV recception and no remote control to enable us to use an external device, also no internet to use the Now TV box. There was a king sized bed with only a double quilt and the wardrobe had other people clothes in. Needless to say there was no way that we could stay for the remaining 2 nights, so informed the owner the next morning that we were leaving. The owner did not offer a partial refund even though their description of the property on Booking.com was misleading.
- Julia (10/5): Convenient stay for Camarthen - Had everything needed with a friendly atmosphere
An old fashioned character rather than a chain hotel
- Adrian (7/5): Convenient - No television
- Githa (8/5): Relaxing stay at Ty Cambria - I received a wonderful warm welcome from the host, who was extremely cordial and accommodating. Good value accommodation in a spacious annexe enjoying olde worlde charm. Interesting selection of books, comfy superking size bed and comfy sofa. Overall a very relaxing stay, thank you :) Be aware there's no internet. The annexe is on a busy road but it did quiten down overnight, and I had no trouble sleeping with my ear plugs.
- Jackson (8/5): Great feel, spacious and very comfortable, ideal rustic getaway for two!! - Great look and feel to the property, very comfortable and spacious, great stay for two. The property did require maintenance in some areas and the views were not as expected.
- Tameka (1/5): Unfit for purpose - The property is dated dirty and scary it was not fit to stay I had to book another accommodation for my nurse Everything it was unclean and dated funny smell not fit for a human
- Rebecca (7/5): Good - Loved the location. It's great if you're visiting Carmarthen.
- Helen (8/5): Very good - Did not have breakfast
- Julie (10/5): Charming property and hosts, wish I could have stayed longer. - Full of olde worlde charm but still comfortable and perfectly adequate. The hosts were particularly friendly and helpful. I liked it completely but may not be suitable for those expecting all of modern conveniences
- Milena (10/5): Exceptional - Lovely spacious place, very nice decor, amazing view of the surrounding landscape from outside the door - Ty Cambria has everything you need: well equipped kitchen, comfortable bed, beautiful sheets. Amazing place to stay.
- Krzsztof (7/5): Good -
- Paramore (6/5): This property would be better for some TLC. Hostess is very approachable and helpful. - N/A The location - 20 feet away from the very busy A40. Traffic going to Carmarthen is on the road from about 5am to midnight includes HGV s, motorbikes and farm machinery.
- Rob (7/5): Good - Very Cheep No TV
- Rachael (10/5): Amazing stay - Good location and relaxing atmosphere The shower had a few problems alongside the cooker Hob not easily working. But it did work eventually.
- Lydia (8/5): Very good - The location was great for us. The accommodation was a little cluttered but the bed was very big and very comfortable. We paid extra for breakfast which was left in the fridge for us. It consisted of sausages, eggs, bread, milk, butter and marmalade. The sausages were excellent but It would have been nice to have a slice of bacon too. There was no coffee available but we had brought some of our own. Frances was extremely friendly and welcoming. It was very quiet there and the views were fantastic. The drive to the accommodation was very narrow and overgrown. The area outside the room was also overgrown and untidy and It would have been lovely if there was a small table and chairs to sit outside.
- Ian (10/5): highly enjoyable - very clean and hospitable
unique and eclectic premises nothing
- Graeme (9/5): Superb - Lovely rural cottage in a quiet village. Nice friendly pub down the road. Good base for day trips around the south coast. A bit hard to find the driveway with lack of signage on a busy road.
- Sudhir (5/5): would stay there if price were lower than what we paid as the owner was very polite and helpful. - it was cosy but needs improvement if it was for self catering. lacks lots of vital utensils but the owner was friendly to lend it to us. very cluttered with excess furniture esp chairs, needed cleaning up cobwebs. there is no tv connection or internet and nothing to do there. couldnāt even sit outside the cottage in warm weather.
- Michael (10/5): Absolutely amazing! - Everything was brilliant. I love the design, the items in there are so fantastic. The host is absolutely lovely. Never had an experience like that in a bnb. So welcoming and warming. Highly recommended and will definitely be back. There were quite a few cobwebs.
