Guest Reviews
- Andrea (7/5): -
- Evita (9/5): Good quality for the price and location. - Very spacious, has a lot of outdoor space, 2 floors, the rooms don’t get hot, good location. Has two bathrooms, many mirrors, good communication. Near the train station so the trains can get loud but that’s normal, the coffee machine didn’t work. Doesn’t really have a sea view, only from one specific point in the terrace.
- Tania (5/5): The host is nice amd his restaurant has good food. The property however needs some work. - The property was spacious. It was very high up and had to go up to a of steps. There is no air conditioning and if you leave the windows open you were eaten alive by mosquitoes. The kitchen, bathrooms, and rooms could have also used some cleaning.
- Emma (10/5): Exceptional -
- Kenneth (7/5): Good - The apartment was comfortable. We enjoyed the terrace. It took 90 minutes waiting at the property gait and numerous attempts of contact with the host before gaining access to the apartment. It would have been nice to know the kitchen light switch also turns off the refrigerator!
- Mandy (6/5): Nice house but if you are not a good sleeper do t stay here - We liked the apartment size , great water flow in showers .. outside space good It is beside the train station and there was noice all night.. when the regular trains stopped at 11.30 then there were freight trains… we got no sleep
- Jeanette (7/5): Hard to say if we would stay here again - the place itself was great. The communication was hard. - The space was beautiful and well appointed- 4 terraces - (1 large with a table that could seat at least 8).
The owner did get someone to come and help us to Casa Carla with luggage - and back to the train station and taxi stand (our people left in different ways) at the end. The communication with property owner/manager improved at the end of our visit.
We picked one place to stay for our 5 day stay in Cinque Terre - would definately recommend doing that as opposed to moving around. From Casa Carla -- we explored each of the other towns.
Take the ferry to explore if you have a chance - absolutely beautiful way to see the towns. And of course the train is super helpful. Communication before arrival was terrible. I had to contact the management company that oversees Casa Carla several times to ensure that we had a booking - as I did not hear back from the property owner - and started to doubt that we had a place to stay. And we did use Whatsapp - and Google translate - so we weren't just expecting someone to communicate with us in English.
The statement that "street parking available" is technically true - but know that it is quite a distance. We were traveling for a month and had a LOT of luggage (more than we would take again). I tried for the month ahead to try to understand how far it would be from where a taxi could drop us off to Casa Carla -- and wasn't able to get an answer. We were thankful we had an italian speaking tax driver who was able to talk with the local property manager to clarify, help us get the keys and make it to Casa Carla.
- Ann (8/5): A very clean, perfectly located, large and roomy with a large patio. Be aware of the many steps up 35 at least to the fr - The apartment is very large and roomy and well lit, with three bedrooms, two having queen size beds, and one having twin beds. There’s also a comfortable central, sitting room and a kitchen with seating. The big plus is the large terrace overlooking street and attractive houses, as well as a smaller terrace off of the master bedroom, lots of room to spread out which was very important to us as there were some days of rain in October. It’s also just steps from the rail station which is a big advantage if you are coming with heavy bags. Then a short downhill walk takes you to a tiny beach front with many lively restaurants and bars, an old church as well as access to the old tower and its walkway with spectacular views. The hosts restaurant is also here, which is convenient when you need to run down and get help from them. (by the way the restaurant is very good) A very slight disadvantage is the regular sound from the trains but this did not disturb us much and the windows seem to keep out a lot of sounds And the kitchen was relatively well equipped. Customer service was a problem at Casa Carla. We had a hard time contacting hosts about our arrival and information on how to access the apartment. When we did finally get through, we learned that the owner/host would not be available to let us in and he assigned a friend/employee to let us into the apartment and we got his telephone number. On arrival in a steady downpour, we could not get clear instructions from that person about meeting him to enter the apartment. We went stumbling around in the rain, found the apartment and stood in the pouring rain for a good five minutes until he came to let us into the apartment. So this was not a good start. Inside the apartment, there were a few issues, including one very tall French door in the master bedroom that would not shut and kept blowing open in the rain. We were able to quickly get a handyman to shut it, but they never came to fix it, so it could not be opened again. Some of the beds seem to be very hard at least to one of our friends and there were no extra blankets or bedding which were desired in the cold rainy October week. There were very few amenities, which were not necessarily expected in an apartment rental, but for example, there was only one very tiny mocha/espresso coffee maker, And a slightly larger one that was available was broken. There was a espresso machine using the coffee pods, but no instructions how to use it in English. Also, there were no instructions for the washing machine or anything else in English. The cups and glasses were sort of “odds and ends” that I don’t think would serve a group of more than 5. It would have been more convenient to have some paper towels or napkins in the kitchen also. so these are the reasons we had to slightly mark down our review a couple of points although in general, Casa Carla was a delightful large clean apartment and a very good value for money.
