Guest Reviews
- Daniel (1/5): -
- Malcolm (8/5): Comfortable stay - Location nice and central to everywhere we needed to be for the weekend. House was well stocked with amenities.
- sherrill (9/5): -
- Rod (3/5): Not What It Purports To Be - Not much. Gordon, who let us in, was very kind and tried to make up for the shortcomings 1. Hot water.. Inadequate and too small solar electric boosted geyser. Hardly enough for 2 showers in a row. Certainly does not cover 4 adults
2. Fireplace provides very little heat and being an open pot fills the house with smell and CO2. So have to open windows and doors which defeats the purpose.
3. Shockingly muddy driveway and entrance. We had an old towell to wipe our feet on. Door mats??? And of course the inside of our cars.
4. No electric blanket in second bedroom. Main has air conditioning and electric blanket.
5. Broken bed in second bedroom so a board used to repair. Matress worn out so most uncomfortable.
- Alison (9/5): Beautiful property in a great location and great hospitality from the host - Location is fantastic - in a quiet part of town but less than 5mins from main street. House was very well equipped and extremely comfortable. Gordon's a great host and was very helpful in providing information and recommendations ... would happily stay again any time!
- Kathleen (10/5): Great property with a very helpful, welcoming host in lovely, friendly small town. -
- Amanda (1/5): Robbed while checking in!! You have been warned! - The cottage was relatively clean. We had to sleep on winter sheets in 32 degrees....at least the room had an aircon. The mosquito net above the bed was dirty, dusty and full of flies.
The cottage is cluttered and the kitchen does not function well. Everything all over the place packed in antique loose standing cupboards. The water from the shower and kitchen runs directly into the garden and this is not hygienic and attracts a lot of mosquitoes. The garden needs some shears and tlc. The pool was sparkling clean. Could not use it though because of the workers walking past all the time. Behind the pool in the property where someone lives in the outbuilding. Not very private. A 30th wedding anniversary from hell! Our cell phone was stolen out of our car when we were busy checking in with Gordon. Later the afternoon a pair of flip-flops and a garden hose also disappeared. First impressions as you arrive it looks like a squatter camp. Tatty shade cloth and the gates locked with a chain? We were instructed to keep it locked but there is no problem with thieves? Really? You share the parking area with the cottage next door. There was people working at the cottage next door using a small gate that links the two properties! I did not feel safe and did question the host about this as we arrived!
I wanted to leave the same day but was convinced to give it one night. What should have been a celebration of our anniversary, ended up the worse choice we could ever have made! We ended up leaving a day earlier. There is definitely a problem with poverty in McGregor. This village will never see us again....For us it's a village full of thieves with some nice people and a few beautiful horses. It's a drive through town but definitely not worth a stay over.
- Tegan (10/5): Exceptional - What a tonic this delightful town and lovely accommodation were! We loved the care and comfort we discovered at Serenity, and the location was an easy stroll to some very quaint attractions and charming eateries. My favourite memories will be of the local livestock calling for each other daily as they slowly traveled down the road, keeping the grass verges trimmed, and of my family enjoying dips in the inviting pool to cool off and unwind. We could've easily stayed longer. :)
- Jillian (8/5): Very good -
- Robert (8/5): Very good -
- Paulette (9/5): A quaint, tranquil country escape - Beautiful garden with pool and outdoor patio. The bed was extremely comfy with good bedding/ pillows/fluffy white towels and aircon for the warm summer nights. The house offers 2 bathrooms and the shower pressure was great which is slways a bonus.. The kiitchen was fully kitted out incl an airfryer and with an eat in kitchen. Gordon was a great host and always available to assist. Hoping to plan our next trip with our pooches for another few days of peace and tranquility in the country. Nothing
- Lynette (9/5): Wonderfully refreshing and peaceful. Loved garden and well equipped home. - Access to DSTV
- Stacy (10/5): Exceptional - Serenity Cottage exceeded our expectations. A beautiful garden, excellent facilities with a lovely little splash pool and could definitely be described as a little piece of paradise. It was a pity that we could only spend two nights. I didn't like the fact that we had to come back home for work on Monday. I would have loved to stay longer
- Candice (10/5): A heartfelt thank you to Gordon for being a fantastic host, he was so kind and friendly, the best h, - I liked the warm welcome from the host, I liked everything about the property, it was safe and secure, loved the detail in house, the place had everything in it, it was comfortable and I really enjoyed the serenity, the clean quite atmosphere, the front yard, the pool the beautiful flowers I loved the comfy bed, the kitchen had everything in it. I loved this place so much we have decided to make another book for December. There was nothing that I didn't like this place was perfect!!
- Tian (10/5): Ture serenity - Serenity in McGregor is the place to be for serenity - a house with everything we needed equipped and a beautiful garden where our dogs were so happy to run around. The property is close to everything and our host is the kindest, offering us travel advice and helping us with dinner reservations. I will be back!
- Ronel (10/5): Memorable - Gordon was a wonderful and attentive host who has great attention to detail with chocolate and snacks on arrival and fresh flowers that made me smile on arrival. I thoroughly enjoyed the space and even made use of the splash pool for a cold dip despite the wintery weather. The fireplace, electric blankets and gas heater created a cosy and comfortable experience. The house is walking distance to the town and Nature Reserve which my Jack Russell thoroughly enjoyed! Gordon also went out of his way to find out which spots were pet friendly which was one less thing for me to worry about and my girl and I had an incredible adventure visiting all the local spots. If you're looking for a space to rest and just be - I highly recommend this for you.
- Jacques (9/5): Superb - Fireplace
Smart TV
Coffee station
Electric blankets No access to DSTV
- Robinson (9/5): Very comfortable and excellent value for money! - The home is comfortable with a fenced garden where the pooch could safely wander around. It has the benefit of 2 stoeps (porches) so we followed the sun and had brekkie on one and the braai on the other. It’s also really well-equipped with all that you need. Dishwasher and air fryer really good to have! Really good quality bed and linen as well. As a host, Gordon was great - his communication was excellent from the time of booking until we left he’s also very helpful.
- Paul (9/5): Superb - Serenity had all the home comforts, even an electric blanket, which was most helpful with morning temperatures of approx 1deg C. The home, as well as the town, is also pet friendly. Rhere was nothing I didn't like Bout my stay.
- Phillippa (10/5): Exceptional -
- Neil (10/5): It was amazing - Gordon was an amazing host. We were late to check in yet her met us with a smile to hand over the keys. Lovely place and such good value for money.
- Coenie (10/5): Highly recommended. - The property provided extras not normally associated with this price range i.e. air fryer, fire place, gas heater, aircon, smart tv, washing machine. And, Gordon was the best host we have experienced through many Booking.com reservations over the years. Nothing was too much trouble for him. He was responsive and gave us great advice on places to visit etc. Thank you Gordon!
- Cathy (8/5): Very good - Lovely home in a gorgeous little dorp. Hope to visit again when the weather is warmer so we can enjoy the pool too. Gordon is a super-helpful and gracious host.
- Michelle (9/5): Superb -
- Eldridge (10/5): Relaxing, rejuvenating, a perfect escape for our family of four and our two cats - Tranquil, quiet place to destress. We (family of 4) spent four days there and enjoyed it tremendously. We enjoyed spending time on one of the 2 patios, and listening to the diverse bird calls and the calming sound of the water feature. The place is animal-friendly: the enclosed garden surrounds the house, so our cats could roam safely. We enjoyed the fireplace in the lounge, which is perfect for the chilly McGregor winter nights. The cottage also has Netflix, and with a good wifi connection, we could also watch other streaming services we are subscribed to. Gordon, our host, was very welcoming and made our stay extra special. He provided us with information about things to do in McGregor (it was our first visit), assisted with a booking at On the Courtyard (their food is great!), and helped us during an emergency. He was available throughout our stay to answer all our questions, suggest walks in the area, and remind us to visit the town's Saturday market. Gordon, thank you for everything, the extra care you showed our family during an emergency. Serenity and McGregor allowed us to destress and recharge, and our pets loved it too! There is nothing we did not like.
- Helen (10/5): Excellent! - Great location for walking into McGregor to eat.
Warm welcome from Gordon on arrival, & offers of help with bookings/activities throughout stay. Excellent host.
Very comfortable, thought given to every possible need to make it an enjoyable stay. Nothing.
- Mieke (10/5): Exceptional -
- Estelle (10/5): Serene surroundings at Serenity - I loved descovering this beautiful historic town. The peace and quiet of Serenity was awesome. Beautiful maintained garden, sparkling pool to cool down. A true home away from home. Comfortable, everything and more you need. Gordon is a superhost, making sure we're happy and leaving a few extra touches that make you feel so welcome. No loadshedding!! A dishwasher and even a airfryer! Our doggy loved exploring the well enclosed garden space. A beautiful walk in the veld just around the corner from this home and a short walk into town for delicious coffee and meals! Gorden went more than the extra mile when we were delayed by traffic, and even made our reservation for dinner at the local restaurant. Just a beautiful home and host inside and out. Thank you, again Gordon.
- Elizabeth (10/5): Exceptional - Warm,comfy,nice swimming pool,clean and very romantic
