Guest Reviews
- Victor (8/5): Very good -
- Victor (3/5): Poor -
- Javier (9/5): Superb -
- Alejandra (2/5): Very poor -
- Matt (7/5): Great facilities but staff needs to be strict with quiet time after 11pm as advertised on signs. - No one respects the quiet time after 11pm. People talking, singing drunk, playing music, movies, and staff does not tell them to be quiet. The last 4 visits I did not sleep because of this.
- Abdalla (4/5): Disappointing - The people working there is wonderful, location is great and very affordable Probably the worst hostel I've been to. I gave a 4 because of the staff, otherwise would have been a 0
- Elio (6/5): Pleasant -
- Marina (6/5): very very bad -
- Musan (9/5): Superb -
- Ubui (8/5): Very good -
- Balali (8/5): Very good -
- Maria (5/5): Passable -
- Vladimir (8/5): Very good -
- Greg (3/5): Dont - I guess it was cheap It was dirty and dark. Not pleasant at all. There were no proper bed sheets and the bed was dirty under the sheets which made sleeping very uncomfortable as the sheets would come off the mattress while we slept. Not to mention there were cockroaches in the room.
The kitchen was disgusting.
- Coantic (1/5): Horrible - Horrible Tout
- Muhammed (10/5): Exceptional -
- Barbio (9/5): Superb - Very nice group of volunteers are running the place. The house is old and simple but wonderful wooden tables and crazy murals are helping the space. There is a kitchen and a good internet 3-floor bunk beds are a challenge: there is not enough space to get up without bumping your head :P
- Brian (8/5): just needs some fans on the top bunks - one of the more social hostels i have been to.
staff was very nice.
seemed like there was mostly pretty cool people staying there.
alejandro from argentina gave an amazing performance with a digeridoo made from a cardboard tube that i will never forget the heat. i was in the top bunk and couldn't get to sleep until 3 AM due to the heat rising up to me. i would have stayed longer if it wasn't for this.
- Meda (9/5): Good stay - Good location, nice and helpful staff. Smokers not bother to close doors in smoking area so smell is in all hostel
- Alejandro (9/5): great staff, warm environment, people that value that an smile is the main asset of a Hostel. - the staff, and the hostel community vibe that you can feel when you just enter.
- Tine (10/5): Exceptional -
- Bautista (6/5): Pleasant - There were some volunteers that work in there they should be more responsible on using TV, which was loud and noisy almost all the time, there was a lot of noise during the day I could not rest properly
- Christian (10/5): Exceptional - My time at the JEP Hostel was one of the most beautiful travel experiences of my life.
The administrator, Justo, had truly become my friend during my time there. He is one of the most kind, thoughtful and generous people I have had the pleasure of knowing.
The volunteers, especially Charlie, are Rockstars. Charlie has gone out of his way to help me more times than I can count. His sense of humor is impeccable, he's a brilliant artist and I will miss our intellectual conversations about the world.
All of the rooms have been renovated. All of the beds, mattress, sheets, etc. have all been changed out for new ones and it has breathed new life into the hostel. I cannot recommend this hostel highly enough. People like Ana and Kadesh made me feel like I was at home in Medellín.
I love this place and you will too. None
- Ariel (5/5): Passable - Location, price Bed aren't thar confortable, main door should have a code or something don't need to wait another person to open it for you.
- Takya (5/5): This hostel has bedbugs - When I first came to this property, I thought it was a pretty cool property. They allowed me to check in early and I had it really appreciated that. The hostel has bedbugs. I woke up to over five bugs on my pillow. I left the following morning.
- Joshua (10/5): Exceptional -
- Martinez (8/5): Very good -
- William (5/5): Passable -
- Brayan (10/5): Exceptional -
- Pinchard (1/5): Dirty, no secure hotel - Nothing No electricity inside the room for charging mobile
The door of the room doesn t close in front of the desk.
Everything is bad , it need à refreshment.
Stoll my money
Door of the hotel close like a jail .
- Shohei (1/5): Bad - I was bitten by bed bugs a lot.
The music on the floor was too loud.
No outlet by each bed.
- Shohei (2/5): Very poor - Music on the floor was too loud and noisy.
There are many used dishes at the kitchen and dirty.
I was bitten by bed bugs every night.
- Geejr (10/5): Good value - It's definitely good value. I read other reviews saying it's not a safe area at the end of the day just because there's homeless people doesn't make it dangerous. San Francisco California has more homeless people and is far more dangerous. When you walk outside the front door to the hostel if you walk left then make the first right and walk two blocks up there's awesome bars and restaurants. The only thing I would recommend is that they run extension cords that reach the beds so people can charge their devices while sleeping. Leaving in the morning with a dead cell phone battery was extremely frustrating. If I was able to charge my devices while sleeping I would have spent a few more days for sure.
- Yuma (1/5): Bed bugs - Good staff Incredible amount of bed bugs.
- Thomas (6/5): Pleasant - Cheap, good location Some bunk beds are really high, have no rail, no curtains and no power outlet, can get noisy, no windows in at least one room
- Annie (10/5): Satisfy - Bed is width One of shower room has no lock
- Saki (1/5): Bad - The people who are working and staying are super friendly, and nice. super helpful even though we don’t understand Spanish at all, they try to help us so hard, really appreciate it. Actually I got bed bug bite so badly.
I realized after I left this hostel as my body took bit time till react for bite as I got bite first time.
my backpack that I put on my bed was full of eggs of bed bags.
Now I can’t even stand without taking shower for an hour because damn itchy.
Hope they fix bed bag problems as it’s nice place to feel part of family while you are traveling.
Also even midnight ppl spoke super loudly, they have might be drunk as I stepped someone’s throw up next morning. If you really understand what is “hostel” and love it, you can book but If you are not extrovert one, it’s not right place, you will see only bad side of this hostel.
- Kai (2/5): Disappointing - Friendly staff The whole place smells like weed.
For all dorms there are only two toilets, of which one doesnt even have a door.
The curtains on the beds shown in the pictures dont exist anymore.
Fan directly under the lamp, so the light is flickering all time.
- Justice (9/5): Superb -
- Annie (10/5): Exceptional - friendly and affordable
- Carla (7/5): Good -
- Eyal (6/5): Pleasant -
- Annie (10/5): good - its width bunk neighbors are seems dangerous during the night
- Justice (8/5): Very good -
- Mustapha (6/5): Perfect hostel " to save some money" - Smoking area Depressed and clueless volunteers whom otherwise won't socialize with or even sit next to in a bus ride.
Checking in took 50 mns when I was expecting it to take 10 mns max. I needed to sleep after 11 hours ride not to explain how credit cards work son.
Uncomfortable bed.
The whole hostel needed some professional and deep cleaning.
The Manager was a bit bossy and disrespectful. You're managing a hostel not a supermax prison and I'm a backpacker not a criminal. I pay to stay You're not doing me a favor So no need to act rough or tough.
Dead or boring vibe with one receptionist just looking for anything to lecture me about the hostel rules. You're a german volunteer trying " to save some money" then focus on "saving some money" don't focus on me. I'm travelling to SPEND and enjoy my money not "to save some money". And That's our difference.
Enjoy your travels y'alls
- Juan (4/5): Disappointing -
- Anonymous (8/5): Very good -
- Bertille (1/5): Beware there are bed fleas! When I complained the next day, the receptionist told me that this was a recurring problem a -

- Johannes (8/5): my second stay at this very familiar place - this place has volunteering people who work there and hang around to socialize. so you will definitely find a good company when staying there.

- Nicolas (9/5): Wonderfull place to stay! -
- Amy (6/5): Good on a budget, but a bit grimey. - It was a good location, close to the metro. It was cheap and felt secure. They had cheap cold drinks on demand which you could buy from door staff until 2am and there was a nice common space. It is good if on a budget and only using the hostel as a place to sleep. The private room was extremely basic and felt unfinished, e.g., walls weren't painted properly, floor not painted properly, and the bathroom window was held open with a rusty tool. The floors of the bedroom felt extremely grimey. The walls are very thin, so you hear everything people are saying in the dorms, and it can get loud if the hostel is busy. The bed is okay, but the pillows and blankets are extremely small and thin. There was no natural light in the private room bedroom, and the bathroom window faces where people smoke outside so the smell can get quite strong. WiFi was rubbish in the private room, but good in the common area.
- Jana (2/5): Very poor - Hello. I booked this hostel for 3 nights and stayed for 1 night. On the 2nd day I stayed at the hostel, I was insulted racist by the hostel owner, he threatened to injure me, cursed me and stole my money. Then he kicked me out of the hostel. I had entered my card information for the reservation and the money was withdrawn there. He also canceled my reservation. I will go to the police station and file a complaint and my lawyer will file a lawsuit. I want to let you know and take action on this business. I also want the extra money withdrawn from my bank account back as soon as possible!
- Yishi (7/5): Good - Very affordable price in a central location Area is unsafe at night. Arrived in late night, had to wait on the street for a while until a guest let me in--staff was no where to be found for a few minutes.
Kitchen is a bit dirty.
- Munis (8/5): Very good -
- Johannes (9/5): best Hostel, I will come back! - super nice place that drags a certain kind of easy going people. One employee refused to communicate in English even though capable of doing so. He wanted to teach me that I must speak Spanish in his country. that was not helpful and I felt unwelcome.

- Nicolas (9/5): Awesome journey! - In terms of services: nice kitchen with a lot of equipements, clean and spacious toilets with very nice hot water, laudry service in the hostel, towel fro 3000 pesos smoking area (weed friendly!), nice big dorms, very cheap, a bunch of different drinking options (beer included), awesome commun areas, a lot of good and cheap restaurants near by, nice staff!
I stayed for a hole month in this hostel and let me tell you I had one of the greatest time of my life. If you're looking for an awesome root place where to meet nice people or to connect with backpackers from all around the world, this hostel is for you! I spend the new year there celebrating with some awesome people, doing a BBQ, drinking some beers and going out with the hostel customers. There is a very familial vibe in this hostel that I enjoyed more than everything else! I felt like home overthere. Thank you Daniel, Paula and all the volunteers who I worked with for this awesome journey! I'll be back someday for sure! These are just informations, not anything that I got disappointed by. First, to anyone reading this, this place is not for families or people who doesn't like to connect with others. If you can't handle the people who are smoking, maybe look for somewhere else to go, because this hostel has a smoking spot (which is very nice and cosy by the way)!
Suggestions: buying a microwave, a toaster and a couple new cooking stoves for the kitchen, maybe installing some kurtens for each beds in the dorms! For the laundry: a price per Kg or giving a standard bag to all the customers
- Lucas (3/5): For hippies only - This hostel is so overated on booking !
First, the location is bad. It's in la Candelaria, a really shitty area to stay in Medellín, full of homeless and junkies on the street, on day time it's ok but on night time don't walk outside it's not safe at all.
I arrive a bit late and I couldn't find the place i try to call them lot of time but nobody reapplied.
Then the place is kinda party hostel, all the staffs working there are very loud. Some people said "you feel like home" but actually you feel in someone else home which is not comfortable to me.
Depend if you are a hippie and like smoking weed you may love this place, but not for other people.
The shower is good, the kitchen looks ok too even if I didn't use it, but the vibes i didn't like it
- Mark (9/5): Superb -
- Shane (10/5): Exceptional -
- Gil (10/5): Exceptional - Really felt like home and the staff was amazing. What a vibe! Muchas gracias Paula, Manuel, Nico and Daniel :) the hostel was my highlight of Medellin.
- Logan (7/5): A good hostel for a long weekend. - The manager was really friendly, the shower was really good and I liked the part of the city the hostel is based in. Less americanised and touristy than other parts of Medellin.
Also your own power point in your bed and plenty of space to store your bags at the end of your bed. The beds weren't super comfortable but were okay. They need more lockers to store important items, they only have 6 at the moment.
- Ana (10/5): Exceptional - It's an awesome place for solo backpackers - Daniel and his staff of volunteers bring so many good energies to this place, making it so special and with a home feeling. Clean, organized, they have laundry service and the place is very central. Had a wonderful time there!
- Percy (10/5): Exceptional - This hostel ROCKS!!! It's has a great vibe and amazing facilities. For the price there's no other place even close to compete. The surroundings are very safe at night. The manager Daniel keeps the place in great shape all the time. Definitely coming back!
- Minyoung (10/5): Exceptional - feels like home. friendly staffs and cozy environment. nothing.
- Michel (1/5): "It was a system error and there's nothing I can do", - I Like when I got there to check-in, after a long day travelling with heavy bags I thought that would be my time to rest... Sweet illusion, they duplicated the booking..
They did it to me and after checking the reviews I noticed that it is a common practice between them.
They will book the same room for two people on the same date and then cancel one of the reservations later on without any notice.
"It was a system error and there's nothing I can do", they told me when I got there to check in, after travelled all day long and eagering to rest.
- Laura (7/5): Good -
- Laura (7/5): Good -
- Willis (7/5): Good - Good location, good price, great staff Crowded rooms, (triple bunk) only two bathrooms, one often out or order or no toilet paper
- Patricia (6/5): Pleasant -
- Ilia (9/5): Good vibes - Love the family social vibes and the living rooms tv and couch, perfect for relaxing with others. Ĺooks old and run down. Kitchen could use a new look to really spark the place up.
- Juan (10/5): Exceptional - Perfect stay for me: good location & facilities, very nice staff! Felt like a home for me (as I like music, party and chilling)… 😃
- Aleksander (10/5): Exceptional - Everything is ok, it's cool hostel for travellers. You can meet many interesting people there
- Quirino (10/5): GREAT HOSTEL, GOOD VIBES - Honestly, this hostel is GREAT ! Perfect central location, good vibes, friendly staff; it s got a small but cosy outside area, colourful graffiti, hammocks, chill area, musical instruments, decent kitchen, comfortable beds and even a mini tattoo studio ! Can be a bit noisy as the dorms are next to the reception where the door bell rings (loud) . Personally I have no problem with that, but I can see how it can be annoying for some light sleepers when someone rings the bell in the middle of the night.

- Ramunė (1/5): Be careful to choose this hostel - Firstly hostel personal looks nice, and others was really friendly. But I wanted to use laundry service, I payed 15000cop and next day I asked or my clothes are clean. A guy who works there said "oh, maybe it's yours. But check it, smel it or it's clean". Okay, it was clean (but maybe who works there should know or it's clean), but I didn't find my two panties (really weird) and instead of expensive running socks was one my sock and other - totally different, not mine. I asked to get back my clothes, or to get back money for that. And what they did, last morning (I was there for 4 nights) canceled my reservation in booking, because "I didn't came to the hostel". And then I asked money for my clothes, they said that I lost just one sock, so they can return money just for one night.
And at the end, a guy who works there just dissapear...
And one night then I was there was a big party with loud music, narcotics and random people from the street. Next morning in all hostel was a big mess.

- Friedhelm (9/5): Nice hostel in top location ! - Nice hostel in a great location right in the center of Medellin, 15 min. walk to Plaza Botero. 300 m from Parque del Periodista, where all the beer shops are. Beds are comfortable, curtains are supplied. Friendly staff, good wifi. Recommended hostel ! Fridge should be renewed.
