Guest Reviews
- Maxime (10/5): Amazing view and hospitality - The hospitality, the view, the cleanliness and the way the house is built
- Uri (8/5): Overall very nice. Nice staff and clean, comfortable room. - The cleanest we’ve seen in Bolivia
Very nice host and overall a comfortable room. Shower wasn’t the hottest, and breakfast was very very modest. No protein…
- estefany (9/5): - La vista y el ambiente Todo bien
- Norton (7/5): -
- May (10/5): - Cosy hostel with a beautiful garden and lovely lake views. The bedrooms are clean and tidy, and hot showers are available, although the gas-powered heater needs to be turned on manually which isn’t too much of an issue. Breakfast was great, especially with the firewood heater creating a warm and homely atmosphere. Mario was very friendly and welcoming throughout the stay. It’s a perfect spot if you’re looking for a comfortable, relaxing rest.
- Péter (9/5): Almost the perfect place in Copacabana - No doubt, that, this is one of the best place to stay in Copacabana. Beautiful historical house on the hillside, with amazing view to the lake. Pay attention to the details, and see the furniture, the decorations, and imagine, what these things tell you from the history. Cleaniless is perfect, the staff is kind and helpful, WiFi is fine! Walking from the centre is 10 minutes, but absolutely worth the effort. But there are some aspects, that would have been improved below. - Breakfast looks nice, but simple. No eggs, no cheese, no vegetables
- Sometimes lack of hot water
- My room had a hole in the ceiling, and it was leaking during a heavy rain
- There is free bottled water for guests, but it was empty during my whole stay (5 nights)
- No room cleaning, and garbage disposal, so you have to manage by your own.
- Basic English speaking would be useful for the hosts
These are just small things, but small things make something perfect, not just very good

- Bart (7/5): - Great views from the balcony Just one working electric socket in a room, super cold
- PrincesSaba (6/5): - Muy lindo lugar

- Peter (10/5): - Mario & his wife are very friendly and helpful. The location is good and the views from the balcony looking out on to the lake are stunning.
- Maria (10/5): Very comfortable, clean and friendly! - I liked everything!
Old villa, very charming. You see people make an afford, so that you feel comfortable. Nice garden with a view on the lake. Cute, cozy room.
Clean bed sheets and towels.
Hot water (good shower), heater.
Fruits for breakfast.
No scamming with fake exchange rate.
You can leave your luggage, if you go to Isla del Sol, and stay at the property after check out.
I would charge more for such a place (: It’s about 10 mins from the city center and uphill, but it’s worth it!

Recepção acolhedora do anfitrião. Café da manhã gostoso. Vista linda do lago Titicaca.
- Daniel (10/5): - This place is amazing. It's an historical Spanish hacienda from the 19th century, very well managed and maintained by Don Mario and his lovely family. The rooms are spacious, heated and clean. The view to the lake or patio are magnificent, very calm and quiet as it is a 10 minute walk from the town center. Highly recommended!
- David (1/5): - Not recommended, the guy at the reception scammed us. We are from Germany and didn’t have Bolivianos yet, only Euros we brought from Germany. The guy at the reception (I don’t know if it was the owner) told us it’s possible to pay in Euros as well, so we did. After check out we went to the bus to la Paz and the guy followed us from the hotel accusing us before we entered the bus to have used a false 50-Euro-Bill. He told us to talk to the police and that we can’t go to the bus if we don’t pay him the 50 euros. Since the bus was departing in a couple of minutes and we didn’t have much time to lose, we did so. Hope he‘s happy now, but this shouldn’t be the way a hotel treats his guests.
Tranquilo, silencioso e perto do centro. Muito confortável, banheiro com instalações modernas. Ótimo café da manhã. Ambiente original e vintage.
- Ella (10/5): A beautiful family run hotel / hostel with a lovely owner - Mario was such a lovely owner! Helpful and trusting
The gardens are so well kept and beautiful
The quad room was lovely - it had so much character. It also had a balcony with amazing views of the lake
Breakfast was great and super cosy dining room with wood burning fire It was slightly far out of town with a walk uphill but that was known when I booked it - I just didn’t expect it to be as high up as it was
- Florence (9/5): -
- Asia (8/5): Beautiful view - The location is a bit out of the center but amazing. The garden and the view on the lake are awesome. Breakfast was very nice as well. Inside the room is very cold and they only have a heater to turn on before going to sleep, but it takes a while to heat the room.
- Thomas (10/5): Exceptional - Small hotel allocated a bit outside the city center with stunning view on the lake and the city. Nice, clean and very quiet rooms. The only hotel on my trip in the Bolivian highlands which had bed covers warm enough for the chilly winter nights. Very good deal for the money. You have to pay attention to the signs on t
he street to find it.
- Sander (10/5): Exceptional - I loved the property, the gardens, the furniture. It's very charming and peaceful. I wish I had more time just to stay on the balcony the whole day looking at the lake. The view from my room was amazing for the sunset, better than any viewpoint in the city. Also, the breakfast area has a great fireplace.
- Paul (10/5): Lake views - Amazing views of the lake, great breakfast with a fire to keep you warm and Mario is a great host ..loved his home all good
- Tosca (9/5): Great place to stay if you don’t mind a cold shower - Everything about the place was great, the rooms and bathroom have everything you need incl. a warm and comfortable bed and enough space. The hosts were both extremely nice and breakfast was also good. The shower was extremely cold, there was no hot water even after asking the host about it and him confirming that there would be.
- Rahul (10/5): Amazing place with great view and good breakfast - One of the best places i stayed on my south America trip. The view , breakfast, rooms, hot shower (hard to find good shower in Bolivia). Helpful staff. Nothing as such but people who does not like hike, they might have to walk a little up hill.
- Ute (10/5): Exceptional - I liked everything. It's fabulous
- Florian (10/5): this is a lovely, lovely place, very comfortable with a tranquil garden. - this is an old hacienda converted to a hostel. high and spacious rooms, classy furniture are still a reminder of its origins. the courtyard is lovely and has a quiet garden. superb breakfast overlooking the town. the owners are very friendly and helpful. it is well worth the 5min walk into town and the beach.
- Valentin (9/5): Superb - The hostal is in a historic building from the 1800s on a small hill overlooking the lake. The garden is very beautiful and a nice place to chill. Breakfast was good amd the owner is very nice and helpful. Hot water and heating in the room could be turned on on request. I really enjoyed my stay!
- Jacqueline (8/5): Worth the walk, nice atmosphere, great place to relax! - Nice view and garden, but therefore of course a bit outside of the center. But it’s worth the walk!
Rich breakfast and very nice hosts!! The bathroom of course is a bit older and the shower did not work properly (but the hot water was hot). They promised to fix it.
There are no options for any drinks or food outside of the breakfast time.
- Mika (9/5): Superb -
- Shige (10/5): Pls come and stay - It was a bit of a walk from the town, but the location was lovely. Everything was clean and the rooms were comfortable. The breakfast was especially great, with a fireplace. It was the best value for money I've stayed at.
- Claudia (1/5): We contacted the property because of the issue with the access and we never got a response. We called and message severa - We could not get there since the road was in very bad condition and the taxi couldn’t get through. Access was not possible
- Guus (10/5): Perfect - I liked everything. The location was perfect with a nice view of Copacabana and the lake. The facilities were good. But most of all, the owners were the kindest, most helpful people. They really made the stay even better. Thank you! Nothing
- Magne (9/5): Recommended - The man working there was really nice and kind. I liked the communal areas, especially the fireplace. Good views of the lake from my room. It's nothing fancy of course, but that's not expected for the price. It's located a bit uphill, so if you have problems with altitude it might be a bit challenging. In early January I found the room quite cold, even though it had a gas burner which helped.
- Colby (10/5): Incredible views from balcony makes it feel like the French Riviera - The building is rich with history, a hacienda from a Spanish colonist from 1836, passed ont through generations to end up with Mario and his family. The view from the room over the lake is unbelievable, with very comfortable beda makes waking up a dream. Mario also prepares a terrific breakfast that you have right next to a freshly lit fire place makes it very cosy. At night Mario invites you to sit in the saloon where a wonderful fire create an unprecedented atmosphere. All in all 10 out of 10 The water warms up slowly but Mario is always there to make sure you have warm water.
- Katherine (7/5): Interesting stay in Copacabana - - great view
- good breakfast - we didn’t have hot water the entire time we were there (one night), according to the manager this was copacabana-wide but it would have been nice to have a heads up instead of having to ask him once we’d stood in a freezing shower twice
- loud noises at night? Someone decided to move furniture at night underneath our room making loud, creepy banging noises. We messaged the manager and that made it stop but who needs to move furniture at 22:30??
- Eva (10/5): Beautiful place to stay in Copacabana - The property is located in a gorgeous, historic house. The rooms have comfortable beds and hardwood floors not to mention we had a balcony overlooking the Titicaca Lake. The owner was very nice and the breakfast was served on white linen table cloths. The photos don’t do justice, we loved the place. It is really a hidden gem in Copacabana!
- Michael (8/5): Lovely people & hotel - Great hotel, beautiful building, & garden, stunning view, amazingly helpful friendly owners who want you to have a great stay.
- Victoria (10/5): copacobana stay - Beautiful garden, it was a very comfortable and relaxing stay, and staff were very kind and helpful, I had an excellent time
- Cheri (8/5): A lovely retreat with wonderful views - Mario, who runs the place, is a sweetheart and will do whatever he can to make you comfortable.
I loved relaxing in the courtyard, and the spring blooming garden.
The view out my window, over the harbor and port below was wonderful! and the view from the breakfast room was stunning. a lovely way to start the day.
I was really disappointed in the volume and temperature of water in the shower, as I really count on a hot shower at night to relax before bed. But I keep late hours sometimes and found out after just a day that if I give Mario a heads up, with a 1 hour window of when I want a hot, higher pressure shower, he will accommodate it. He fixed the problem. He's very responsive, so just ask him for anything that you need. All in Spanish, but Google Translate and my Elementary Spanish worked just fine.
They get up early in the morning and light a fire in the breakfast room, so it's toasty warm when you go in there! Yum. A problem with the rolling propane heater, which I really appreciated in general to use for a little while in the chilly evenings. One night when I firmly turned off the gas valve and went to bed, it didn't shut off the gas and I woke up many hours later very uncomfortable and too warm. just be sure when you turn the gas off at night that you confirm that the flame has stopped.
No eggs or protein with breakfast. but it was a beautiful spread, otherwise, in a lovely place.
Hard beds.
- Jake (10/5): An elegant experience. A beautiful setting to relax. Mario & family were more than hospitable -
- Daniela (9/5): Superb - The view.
The good vibe.
The host , Mario.
- Yun (8/5): This experience gave me a bad impression of La Paz - The location is good, room is clean, shower is hot, and there is no any problem with the room. The only thing that made me feel strange was the attitude of the staff: When I checked in, he said there was no room for me. Finally, under my insistence, he gave me a big room. I thanked him for changing big room , but I couldn't understand his attitude afterwards. Breakfast time is 8:00-9:30. When I arrived at the restaurant at 9:28, I was informed that breakfast was over and refused to provide me with breakfast. This made me feel very angry. My two days room rate included breakfast, but I was treated so rudely. This is a situation I have never encountered. I rarely comment on booking.com, but I have to leave some of my experiences in this hotel.
- Ben (10/5): Exceptional - The first place that felt like home in 3 months
Extremely cosy, fire lit for breakfast and in the evening if you ask manager Mario (who is the most lovely person), incredible old hacienda building and stunning views. Great place to slow down and recharge so definitely stay at least 2 nights if you can Nothing :)
- Saladini (9/5): Superb - Great view of the lake from the room, which is very clean. Mario is extremely gentle and available. n/a
- Maria (8/5): Beautiful views, great location, friendly staff, tasty breakfast. - It's a beautiful, old house with a garden. The area is very peaceful and quiet. The views from the guest house for a lake and the city are truly amazing. My room was nice, comfortable with big bed. The breakfast served on the morning is tasty. Mario is a friendly and helpful, give information to help with sightseeing.
- Anton (10/5): Exceptional - The host, Mario, was very friendly and accomodating
Breakfast was great
We loved the Building and the fantastic view from the terrace
Great common space and garden Our room was just out of reach for good wifi signal, in common rooms no problem
There is hot water for showers, but it takes a long time to heat up
- Shashank (10/5): Beautiful Vintage Building with Amazing Views - Beautiful vintage building away from the noise of the center, perched on a small hill top that has sweeping views of the lake and the hills around. Garden in the front of the property is a great spot to watch amazing sunsets. The rooms and bathrooms are super clean, breakfast next to the fireplace every morning is decent and Mario who looks after the place is just too good.
- Neil (9/5): A lovely place but no good for people with disabilities - The owner
Being able to leave my bags when I went to Isla Del Sol
Early check in
Good bed
Good views Lack of hot water on my second stay
Steep climb with my wheelie bag
A little too far from town which meant a bit of a slog to find dinner
- Neil (7/5): Lovely place but hard work getting there - Breakfast was okay
Friendliness of owner
Kept my bag for a night while I went the island of the Sun
Price Position - it was 15 minute walk from town with luggage and up a steep dirt road
No hot water on 2nd morning so couldn’t wash
- Donna (10/5): Exceptional - Mario was super kind and very attentive. He made sure my stay was a pleasure. The breakfasts were amazing and the view perfect. Highly recommend this hostel fir all.
- Katie (10/5): Exceptional - The whole house is really pretty and comfortable. Mario was so helpful. We stayed here either side of a trip to Isla del Sol and we were able to leave our bags. The garden is a nice place to relax and in the evenings there is a fire in the study which was great! The breakfast was good - we had lots of different options and it was all tasty. It’s a 10min walk into town so it’s really quiet and peaceful but still close to the amenities.
- Linus (9/5): Very good Hostal - The view is amazing. Lovely host. Nice common room with fireplace. Located a bit outside of the town, very quiet on a small hill.
- Stephen (10/5): Amazing - Amazing old colonial building, beautiful garden and an incredible view over Copacabana and the harbour. Log fire in the breakfast room.
Room is quiet and completely dark at night. Super comfortable bed with a big thick duvet.
Mario, the owner, was really kind and helpful.
One of my favourite places I've stayed in 6 months travelling. Nothing!
- Marieke (10/5): Amazing hospitality in a gorgeous location. I already look forward to coming back. - Incredibly beautiful property, beautifully situated. Heart-opening!!!
- Simon (10/5): Attentive host and great value for money - Fabulous view, super friendly staff and great breakfast
- Marcel (9/5): Superb - Nice garden inside the hostal.
The hosts were willing to help every moment. There is no waypoint to the hostal.
