Guest Reviews
- Alissa (7/5): - It is located just next to the river and there is a really nice hammock just next to the water too. The room is little but enough for a short stay.
Unfortunately the water from the shower didn’t work anymore on our second day.
- Guest (9/5): -
- Nico (9/5): - Nette Leute, sehr schöne Badestelle und herrlicher Balkon. - sehr kleines Bad ohne Waschbecken
- Phoebe (10/5): - Amazing view of river. Super big bed with fan and bedding. Pillows a bit hard. Great bathroom with supplies and shower with hot water. Balcony with hammocks (and monkeys). Really great room just off busy street. Some road noise but earplugs do the job.
- Michelle (10/5): Great location, great staff, very comfortable room - The location is perfect and our room was very comfortable. The macaques came by each morning looking for food. We loved it, but know that they'll try to take anything you might be eating. Jack's Bar is right downstairs, which is a plus if you want to enjoy a drink while singing along with staff and friends who often play their guitars and thoroughly entertain whomever might be there. The staff is stellar. They went out of their way to take care of us, truly above and beyond!
- Chris (7/5): Not as good as the other reviews make out to be - * The staff are great, and Charly (who I think responded to messages on Booking.com?) was very prompt and super helpful. I met Jimmy and he's nice as well.
* The balcony overlooking the river is really nice. There' are comfortable chairs and a comfy hammock to pass the time.
* The fan is nice and strong, so you won't get hot in the room.
* The bed is comfortable. * The noise from the motorbikes. There's no sound insulation in the room, and it's right above the alleyway where they ride up and down fairly often. It's also made worse by the alleyway being enclosed, so it turns into a tunnel and makes the noise even louder.
* There's no sink in the bathroom - so you either turn the shower on and get wet legs, or use the tap that fills up a large bucket/container which is used for the toilet.
* You might be woken up in the early hours by a generator being switched on to pump water. 2am for me.
* The room is right above the bar, so you'll hear the bar music when trying to rest and fall asleep.
* The room is a little shabby, and there's limited space to place you luggage.
* There's no hot water
* Lack of attention to detail in the room - for example the drinkable water container was empty, the soap nearly empty.
I don't like leaving negative reviews, but at the time of writing this, it's rated 9.3. I have no idea how it's that high, and I felt a bit 'conned' into booking this room based on the high ranking reviews. I didn't enjoy my stay, and didn't feel well rested after 2 nights. Main things were the noise and lack of a sink, the latter making washing hands and brushing teeth so much harder.
- Rianna (9/5): Superb -
- Anat (8/5): Very good - Staff were extremely friendly and welcoming, very laid back place with river access for swimming and good view from the balcony. Highly recommended Roon was actually small, bar downstairs had music on Saturday night
- Grit (10/5): Absolute dream stay in the jungle - I had a wonderful time at Charly and Jimmy's Homestay! They were incredibly kind and friendly, always making sure I had everything I needed. It felt like staying with family. They were available whenever I had questions or needed help.
The room was small but cozy, and the balcony was amazing. It had a hammock and offered a beautiful view of the river and the jungle. Jimmy was so helpful, showing me the best spots to swim and even lending me a tube to float down the river.
I highly recommend staying here if you want a relaxing and personal experience! That I couldn’t stay longer ;)
- Lisa (10/5): Exceptional - Our stay here was absolutely amazing! The room was small but clean and cozy. And the balcony more than made up for the size of the bedroom!
What really made my experience special were Charly and Jimmy - they are such warm and welcoming people!
The trekking tour with Jimmy was a highlight. He knows the jungle like the back of his hand and he explains everything with so much heart and humor - it was both educational and fun!
On Saturday, they invited us to a BBQ, and later we went to a party they recommended. If you get the chance you should go to these party’s in the jungle. It was a great experience and tourist are very welcome.
Also try the cinnamonrolls at nature soul. It’s just a few minutes walk from the accommodation.
Thank you, Charly and Jimmy - I can’t wait to come back!
- Lindsay (6/5): Pleasant - Location was good and room was comfortable enough. Nice balcony. We stayed on a Saturday night and apparently the bar across the river plays live music every Saturday. They were playing music so loud from 9pm to 3am to the point where the room was shaking. We got no sleep that night and had to be up by 7am for our 3 day jungle trek. We were really hoping for a restful sleep the night before.
Communication with the host was good at first but once we checked in we didn’t hear from him until the day after we checked out asking about payment. We messaged him a few times asking for help because the water in the unit was not working. We had no running water for a few hours in the morning so no shower or toilet use. It eventually sorted itself out after my husband fiddled around with it but the host never replied when we asked for help.
We were told by the host the day we arrived towels would be dropped off. They never were.
We tried to find someone to pay the morning we checked out at 7am and no one was around for payment and we had to leave for our trek. Upon return we didn’t have enough cash to pay and no atm was available in the village so ended up having to pay card at a 3% surcharge.
- Henrieke (10/5): Exceptional - I had a great time at Charly's little house. It's a fantastic place to relax and the view from the balcony into the jungle and over the river is amazing. Jimmy was a wonderful host and had some great travel tips for the region. I would definitely come here again!
- Ursula (10/5): Wonderful Hosts and an Amazing view! - I had a delightful stay at Charly and Jimmys homestay. As an older traveler, I was a bit nervous about the Jungle trek, but Jimmy was absolutely wonderful. He tailored the half-day trekking tour to my pace and made sure I felt comfortable and safe throughout. His knowledge of the Jungle and the Care he took to explain everything made the experience enjoyable and informative.
The room was Lovely and clean, with a stunning view from the balcony. I spent many peacful hours just watching the river and the forest.
Charly and Jimmys warm hospitality made me feel right at home. They were always available to help with anything I needed and went out of their way to make sure I had a pleasant stay. The nearby restaurants offered delicious local cuisine, and I particularly recomend the german bread and cinnamon Rolls at the Café natour Soul.
I highly recommend this homestay to anyone visiting Bukit Lawang, espacially if you are looking for a personalized and safe adventure in the jungle.
Thank you, Charly and Jimmy, for a wonderful stay!
