Guest Reviews
- Hajo (9/5): - The style and attention for detail was amazing and the staff is really friendly. I felt very much at home.
- Lisa (10/5): Quirky Comfy Fabulousness! - The whole place! It's like staying in someone's perfect cosy home. The breakfast is the most delicious I've ever had in a hotel, prepared & cooked with love! The bedrooms are so unique. The bed was so comfy, decor amazing.. little things like shower gel in glass bottles, blankets, crocheted-covered hangers, drinking water in a glass bottle.
I loved it all. That I wasn't staying longer.
- Nikola (10/5): -
- Joyce (10/5): Wonderful - Wonderful place to stay in Cape Town. The room has been so beautifully decorated in a vintage style. The breakfast was divine and the staff very friendly.
- Patricia (1/5): No safe for solo travelers - I did not like at all No one at the desk - never. You should include that there is no one at the hotel
- Jessie (7/5): - Location is good. Decoration is interesting. Food is good. Though parking is advertised- it’s on street parking which would have been good to know prior to booking. It’s not a quiet hotel -noise carries, stairs and floor boards creak.
- Taylor (10/5): Wonderful place to stay in Cape Town - The property was beautiful. Staff went out of their way to make us feel welcome and comfortable. They helped with our bags, accommodated our dietary restrictions, and offered a late checkout. Breakfast was delicious! Very good value as well. I would come back in the future and recommend to friends visiting Cape Town. N/A
- Dmitrii (8/5): -
- Lisa (10/5): Can’t wait to return. Thanks Russell! - Everything was perfect. Beautiful rooms and warm welcome. So stylish yet homely.
- Ana (10/5): You'll not regret booking this gem - A home away from home. Just the warmest team, amazing breakfast and eclectic interiors.
By the time you leave, you'll want to bring Russel's breakfast and lemon curd recipes with you, some of the driver Lino's young wisdom and Fatima's warm smiles and jokes. I will definitely come back. having to leave so soon
- Kristin (10/5): Rundum gelungen - Stilvoll eingerichtet, super freundliches Personal, bestes Frühstück
- Isabelle (10/5): - Decor was stunning. Staff were very friendly and helpful. Breakfast was lovely and very very generous portion wise! Location was great, walkable during the day to v&a waterfront and ubers were easy to get to further afield places/at night.
- Marius (5/5): Nothing bad but not a hotel experience as expected. - This is not a hotel. It is a guest house experience. It has been marketed as a hotel. It is not. No private bathroom. Furniture old/vintage but uncomfortable. No fridge or TV in room.
- Maiko (10/5): - I had a truly wonderful stay at this hotel. Although I was only there for one day, I really wish I could have stayed longer. The owner, Rassel, was incredibly kind, warm, and welcoming from the moment I arrived, and always ready to help with anything I needed.
The atmosphere throughout the hotel was cozy and inviting.
Breakfast was absolutely spectacular, with great quality and attention to detail. On top of that, the artistic décor around the house was stunning and gave the place a unique charm that made the stay even more memorable.
Overall, it was a fantastic experience, and I would highly recommend this hotel to anyone looking for a warm, welcoming, and beautifully designed place to stay.
- Christie (10/5): -
- Morgan (10/5): - Staff were so kind and welcoming! Best breakfast of my entire trip. Design aesthetic of this cozy stay is unique and playful.
- Deberah (9/5): Lovely place to stay for a couple of nights - Something a bit different with a special feel and vibe. Super friendly and helpful staff A bit too far from V&A. No screen to have a stand up shower over the beautiful roll rim bath. Our electric sockets weren’t working but for a one night stay those were not real issues. If I had been staying longer those would have been a problem.
- Alexandre (10/5): Excellent stay in a one of a kind property - This is a truly unique property managed by an outstanding team. Russell and the rest of the staff make you feel at home, taking care of you the entire time Nothing, all positive
- Marc-Antoine (9/5): Back in the old furnitures - Originality, kindness and openess of the owners and staff
- ANDREAS (9/5): Excellent hospitality and location! - Great location, welcoming and warm staff, unique rooms with customised decoration, fantastic breakfast!
- Magdalena (10/5): -
- Jolien (9/5): Heel fijne tussenstop in mijn reis. - Super gezellig, retro hotelletje. Heerlijk ontbijt.
- Richard (8/5): - Quirky, unique decor. Old fashioned feel and details.Lovely staff and owner. Great breakfast.
- Amanda (10/5): - It was very charming and beautifully curated with striking artworks and quirky ornaments placed around. Russell was delightful and friendly and the breakfast deserved its fame. The area is obviously having a moment with hidden gems in the side streets. And a short walk to V&A if that’s up your street.
- Melanie (9/5): Very comfortable and great communication - Good for a short stay - Great communication with Russell, smooth check-in, very friendly staff. The bed was super comfortable.
- Marian (7/5): OK, but wouldn’t recommend - The location is good to get to the V&A Waterfront (also walking) or anywhere in the city with an uber. No AC in the room and the big fan did help a bit but it was still pretty warm in the room.
The mattress wasn’t very comfortable and the bed made a noise at a slightest move so we were waking up often.
L’accueil
La gentillesse du personnel Rien
- Armelle (9/5): - Emplacement, côté insolite, petit-déjeuner et service
- Jennifer (10/5): Wonderful owner and staff, very quaint and convenient location - Fabulous owner and staff. Delicious breakfast. Very clean and great location No a/c in single room
- Steve (10/5): - What’s is not to like. Russell and his team are unbelievable hosts with services levels world class.
The super star here is the Breakfast. Without any doubt this has to be the most amazing breakfast we have had and alone a reason we will return.
- richard (10/5): Enchanting and quaint . - Beautifully styled colonial little space, a charming oasis ! nothing
- Ziqian (9/5): Excellent boutique hotel and a memorable experience - Very welcoming staff and fabulous hospitality. Stayed in two different rooms and both were very charming (though I like the solo room a bit more). Breakfast was also very tasty. None but some doors can be difficult to handle.
- Michael (9/5): Wundervoll - Das Frühstück
- Conor (10/5): -
- Melissa (10/5): Highly recommended for those wanting to stay at a boutique inn with boatloads of charm and style. - Perfect location close to everything, absolutely delicious breakfast, charming property. Hosts were so friendly and helpful - they had great recommendations for everything. They also arranged our airport pickup with their driver. This is a boutique hotel in a vintage home so be prepared that not everything is super modern, such as the bath fixtures.
Rien
- Annemieke (8/5): -
- Aya (10/5): Wonderful stay in Cape Town. - This hotel is an old victorian house in the heart of Cape Town. I stayed here three nights and I became attached to its charm more and more every day. My room was small but all in pink (I love pink!) and made me feel at home. I could relax in the lounge downstairs listening to jazz music and the cookies they baked every day. There was tea/coffee service at the second floor free 24/7. Russell prepared a beautiful breakfast with much care. Different varieties day by day, I would never doubt to come back to this place next time I am in Cape Town. I had a difficulty to open the door lock a couple of times but not a big issue.
- Borg (9/5): - Lovely quirky hotel. Food was fantastic, all homemade. Bed was creaky when turning which kept walking us. Overall though we loved the place
Thank you for everything ❤️
- Whitnee (10/5): 🥰 It's like a home away from home 🥰 - Absolutely wonderful bed & breakfast -- The care and attention given to the smallest detail from arrival to departure is appreciated. Allen and his crew did an a excellent job and I'm going to miss this charming place (and the Michelin-tier breakfasts!!). N/a, everything was perfect!!
- Joyce (10/5): Very nice. It felt homely. The breakfast was magnificent - The stairs.
- Evelyn (10/5): - Great cosy boutique style B&B in walking distance to the lively Cape Town waterfront. Russell prepares excellent breakfasts. Haven't experienced this before (says the foody). The staff team is extremely helpful. Appreciated the airport transfer with knowledgeable company. Thanks for a great stay to kick off our East Cape experience!
- Marius (10/5): -
- Anna Maria (5/5): -
- Laura (10/5): Characterful! - Lots of character, fantastic breakfast, friendly hosts The layout of the bathroom was a little unusual - it was fine for one person, but it might have been a bit uncomfortable for a couple
- Deborah (10/5): From the moment of our arrival we felt at home. The owners and staff made it so easy to settle straight away - We loved the quirkyness of the decor and the fact it was like stepping back in time. NO TV was so refreshing. Nothing!
- Patrick (10/5): -
- Louise (8/5): Hotel Lola exceeded our expectations in all respects - The owner operator of the Hotel Lola is an expert chef and provided us with the most excellent breakfasts, using produce and herbs from his garden and farm. It was all delicious and top line. The cheery staff were always available to provide information and assistance if needed, and the location was ideal for the V&A and central Cape Town. The decor was fascinating, a mix of boho antiques and interesting collectibles. The bath in the bedroom was a truly unique feature and complimented the hotel's sense of fun and enjoyment of life. We had a lovely week there.
- Mark (9/5): super - Location Super, Hosts Super, Breakfast Super, Thankssss The curtain at the shower.
- Esmée (9/5): We had a great stay! Such a unique, cozy and well decorated place & the kind hosts made it an unforgettable experien - The hosts were incredibly kind and caring!
- Yves (10/5): -
- Michael (9/5): -
- Angela Raworth (10/5): Exceptional at every touch point. - Everything ! Nothing !
- Mick (10/5): Super! - Fantastisch verblijf en hele leuke mensen! Het ontbijt vind je nergens anders. Restaurant waardig.
- Carole (10/5): A warm welcome awaits! - We loved the unique decor and atmosphere of the house but most importantly the lovely welcome from all involved with running the accommodation.
The beds are very comfortable!
Also I must mention the breakfast, so tasty and beautiful presentation.
- ulrike (10/5): excellent. - excellent breakfast, excellent host, beautiful rooms and hotel to leave this beautiful place
- Anna (10/5): Perfect little wonderland in Capetown - The staff was so kind and friendly! Everbody was given the best they can, to gave us a pleasant stay! Especially good was the breakfast every morning, it was fresh, delicious and everday something different!
The room was comfortable and super stylish! Never slept in such a nice bed before in a hotel. Everywhere you look in the house, you can find little things that makes the hotel what it is!
Also Allen our host was super friendly and stayed up longer for our check in!
Everthing was perfect! Thank you for the stay! We didnt see Allens dog, so we guess, we have to come back!!
- Jacqueline (8/5): Cute hotel and would recommend it - Lovely owners. Very cute rooms and lovely style. Good breakfast and lovely staff Bed was a bit squeaky when turning from one side to another in the sleep
- T (10/5): - Super helpful and friendly owner who truly does go the extra mile for his guests, perfect place for exploring Cape Town.
- Lynn (9/5): Excellent stay thank you - A very homely hotel with very welcoming hosts and hotel team. Would recommend. Allen kindly provided us with a ride to the port so that we could board our cruise ship.
- Daniela (10/5): - Hotel Lola is a place that feels like home when traveling. A beautiful house with all the comfort you need, lots of character, and possibly the best hosts im Cape Town: From preparing a lovely breakfast to sharing tips on how to get around, Russel and Allan made my stay in Cape Town such a perfect experience. Thank you both!
- Andrea (10/5): Ganz besonders - individuell und herzlich geführtes Haus! - Liebevollster Shabby-Chic mit ganz zauberhaften Gastgebern! Sehr gute Lage.
- Einor (10/5): Great stay! - We loved our stay at Hotel Lola. The rooms are all beautifully decorated and the location was great. We especially enjoyed Russell's amazing breakfasts and appreciated being given recommendations for our first time visiting Cape town! We would definitely stay again!
- Greg W (10/5): You will want to come back......again and again. - I can't say enough about this place or the wonderful guys who run it. From the first time I visited (April, 2024), I was made to feel like a part of a family. I was greeted at the door and assisted with my luggage (as minimal as it was) up to my room. Russell and Allen LOVE what they do, and it shows in so many ways. You're not staying at a fancy Hilton hotel. It's more like you're staying at you're best friend's house or the place in the country that you always look forward to getting away to. It's the little touches that make all the difference.
I could go on and on, but the crème de la crème of your stay is the breakfast that you recieve in the morning to start your day. It is beyond compare. Fresh squeezed juices with the pulp, your selection of whatever type of coffee beverage that you desire, and a delicious yogurt fruit salad made that morning topped with Allen's homemade granola. That is just for starters. You then receive the main course, which changes daily. Russell is an amazing chef.
As I mentioned before, these guys LOVE what they do and they want you to have the best stay possible in Cape Town. They are more than happy to tell you not only where to go, but the best way to get there. I left there yesterday and I'm already looking forward to traveling around the globe from Seattle to spend more time at their place.
Oh yeah, I almost forgot. I pretty much ate all the fresh baked cookies they left out every day......... The fact that I don't spend a week or more staying here......
- Inge (9/5): -
- Sarah Mirne (8/5): Cute location & welcoming hosts - Cute place, well curated in the furniture.
Nice and welcoming hosts
- Anika (10/5): The ideal start to my holiday — friendly, welcoming, and full of great local tips. - It was the perfect place to kick off my holiday. I received so many great dining recommendations, and the warm, welcoming atmosphere made me feel completely at home as a solo traveler. I can’t recommend Hotel Lola highly enough — 100% worth it!
- Catherine (10/5): Ideal location, exceptional breakfasts and service - Russell and Alan are amazing hosts. The location was even better than I expected and within very easy walking distance of the V and A waterfront area. As a solo traveler, I felt very safe walking around. Russell was especially helpful in recommending restaurants, making a dinner reservation at Riva restaurant and providing helpful tips. The breakfast were beyond exceptional. The hotel room was small, but very comfortable and met my needs.. There are also common areas and outdoor seating that I loved. Loved it
- Merlin (9/5): - Fun and quirky hotel with a great breakfast in central location!
- Florian (9/5): -
- Jeanri (10/5): Thank you so much! We had the best time with you and would recommend you to anyone!! - The hotel is absolutely stunning. The front garden and veranda is wonderful for breakfast. The decor inside is just perfect. The bedroom was gorgeous, very clean and the bed was very comfortable. The owners were very welcoming and interesting to talk to. Lino was a perfectionist when it came to preparing the breakfast table and serving it. He was also happy to drive us when requested. He offered different tours too to the cape which we didn’t have time for but I’d highly recommend arranging this with him if you stay here! It was 100x better than staying in a waterfront hotel with loads and loads of rooms Nothing!
- Christiane (10/5): - A small hotel, very individually furnished and designed... a little oasis in the middle of the big city.
The breakfast is absolute fantastic, Allen and Russell are wonderful hosts. Definitely recommended to stay here!
- Marc (10/5): -
- Karl-Heinz (10/5): Very nice hotel with very helpful staff - An old Capetown Hotel with charm. Very nice and helpful staff with a good fresh breakfast
- Arnold (9/5): -
- yvonne (10/5): Comfortable quirky hotel with lovely features. Close to the warerfront - Lovely old style vintage furniture. A lovely home to home feel about this lovely small and friendly hotel. All the staff were friendly. Loved the bedroom. Close to everything. The beat of home cooked breakfast using local fresh produce Nothing
Nada
- IngridHB29 (10/5): An absolute delight. I will be back! - Dear Russell. Please may I share my heartfelt joy in having discovered your quirky, but beautifully welcoming hotel. I wasn't sure what to expect but you were always so kind and welcoming when we chatted online and you showed the same kindness and open care to my son and I whilst we stayed with you.
I LOVED my balcony room with the lovely eclectic period furnishings and lady of leisure painting. It's always good to see a realistic female form 😀😀
Your food was sublime and obviously made with love. I enjoyed it all and am very grateful that you flexed for our dietary requirements. ❤️
As I said to you, I will be back to Cape Town, so will be in touch for another stay.
Thank you again to you, Fatima, Damilola, Wayne (the bread maker that I'm looking forward to taste next time) and the wider Team ❤️❤️ A fair few stairs up to the front door and up to the room, which could play havoc on my gammy knee. But that's my fault for wanting a great room with a fantastic view, which Russell provided just as requested.
Hot water didn't run enough for a full bath, so I ended up soaking in tepid water, but it was still lovely to have a bath after a day of sightseeing.
