Guest Reviews
- Madeleine (3/5): we were walking and there was nowhere to eat - Once we discovered the breakfast place, they kindly phoned the cafe at the arboretum where they kindly gave us coffee. We only discovered as we were leaving that there was breakfast - no information in the room. It turned out that we missed the info on the text from booking.com. Breakfast was in adjoining building with no signs
- Leanne (8/5): -
- Charles (10/5): Beautiful peaceful luxury - Lovely quiet accommodation, very comfortable. Great location in peaceful village and the room even had a view of the railway.
- Kenneth (10/5): Second stay at this gem of a hotel. Every need has been considered and added to make our experience absolutely perfect. - Outstanding cleanliness and wonderful room facilities. Can’t think of anything this hotel could do to improve our experience
- Maria Jose (10/5): - Location
Friendliness and professionalism of staff
- Kerry (10/5): - Beautiful location, hotel was stunning. Would definitely book again. All the facilities you need and the breakfast was lovely.
- Concannon (10/5): - Very comfortable. Nocely presented room.,vimtage style bathroom with large shower.Wi fi made up for ppor phone signal . Within earshpt of Severn valley railway. Nice continental breakfast served by helpful host. Fairly remote location but taxi drivee was able ti find.
- Kerry (6/5): Great location, clean property. - The location, the property as very clean. Could do with a long mirror in the room. Later check out.
Smart Tv as the signal wasn’t great.
- Kirsty (10/5): Comfortable, nicely finished, gorgeous location, friendly team - Gorgeous locations and very comfortable and well presented rooms
- David (8/5): - Room was right size for a 1 night stay . Very quiet. When I checked out the barn was locked up so noo one to leave the keys so it seemed strange to leave keys in the room, as the main entrance wasn't locked. Why not have a secure post box for keys in reception?
- Sarah (7/5): - Decor is good. Very clean Very dry coissants
- Lee (10/5): -
- Ness (10/5): A slice of heaven - Everything and everyone at The Grange make it the slice of heaven that it is. Each room is stylish and beautifully appointed. The beds are comfy and the bathrooms scrupulously clean. There's ample carparking and the continental breakfast buffet is delicious. Nothing is too much trouble for the lovely staff team here. They are warmly welcoming, but not intrusive. Such a special place. Nothing
- Kirst (9/5): Lovely location and place to stay that is good value for money. - The size of the room; the quality of bedding and furnishings; the cleanliness; the self-check-in; the additional bed; the continental breakfast; the quiet peaceful location; the parking; the voucher for the Arboretum. Will definitely consider returning to stay at this property when in the area. Green light on the ceiling in the bedroom; more milk sachets for tea/coffee; later check-out time and later breakfast, i.e. 11am or even 10:30am instead of 10am would be preferred.
- Tim (10/5): - A very grand house in a lovely location. Room was as good as expected with nice big bathroom. Our dog was accommodated without issue. Yummy breakfast. Great sitting room to chillax in. Nothing, just can't believe we were the only ones staying there!
- Sharon (10/5): Top class accommodation with delicious plentiful continental breakfast - Beautiful dog friendly room, self check in so easy. Stunning views from the little terrace outside our room where we enjoyed sitting in the sun with a cuppa. Stunning views of the sun setting each evening. Mel & Esther very friendly and prepared a delicious continental breakfast each morning for is to help ourselves to in the cosy barn dining room. An ideal base for us exploring Bridgenorth, Ironbridge, Bewdley and Ludlow during our 4 stay. Free entrance to Arley Aboretum was a nice bonus and lovely to see all the Camelias in bloom this month. Nothing disappointed, we will be back!
- Robin and Sue (9/5): Lovely accommodation - Beautiful room and lovely location Sadly like many other reviews the green light above the bed was very bright and illuminated the whole bedroom
- Irene (9/5): Engelser en landelijker krijg je het niet! - Prachtige locatie. Vriendelijk personeel. Mooie Inrichting.
- Em (9/5): Would come back - Breakfast was good and staff made a real effort with our son.
- Alison (10/5): Beautiful, comfortable and amazing location. - Beautiful place to stay. Surrounding countryside and so peaceful. Nothing was too much trouble for the very polite and helpful staff. Allowed us an early arrival to get ready for a wedding near by. Continental breakfast was delicious and plenty. Would highly recommend The Grange and would definitely stay again when in the area. If I had to say anything it would be the sign post at the entrance. Not very big and clear.
- Molly (10/5): -
- Peter (10/5): - Location of Upper Arley was stunningly beautiful. Ester was a wonderful hostess for the breakfast, which was lovely.
- Charlotte Fearn (10/5): - Everything, beautiful place, stunning view.
- Amanda (10/5): -
- PM (10/5): I loved this place and will stay again. - Its exceptionally lovely location.
The manager’s friendly attitude.
A really lavish continental breakfast. A sketch maps to find the property within the village would have helped on arrival.
- James (10/5): -
- Frances (9/5): I would happily return to this property - Comfortable and clean. It was self check-in so I didn’t meet any staff Nothing
- Sean (10/5): Lovely property - Breakfast 10/10
Stay 10/10
- Jon (10/5): Lovely modern clean rooms in a picturesque location. Great welcome at breakfast. - Lovely clean well appointed rooms and super staff at breakfast
- Caroline (10/5): Beautiful views and a comfortable nights sleep, away from it all! - Location was great as we were visiting a friend close by, we were the only two staying at the time , we had two rooms I had my dog so it was great that I could just go out of the doors from my room in the morning
Breakfast was great , very welcoming staff
- Kirk (10/5): It’s a must add to your bucket list you won’t be disappointed - Buetifull location excellent staff super clean Nothing
- Amanda (10/5): -
- Joni (9/5): -

- Jess (10/5): Absolutely loved it!!! Would recommend!🩷🩷 - I was getting married at The Mill Barns (9 mins duration) super accessible, comfortable beds, very clean, easy enough access into the building and rooms who are an amazing size, beautifully decorated in the bedrooms and en-suites. Tea and coffee and milk available in all of the rooms. Loved my stay. Nothing about the property - but something to note - if you have a large vehicle or van it’s fairly difficult to swing into their car park due to the narrow country roads. But this would not affect anyone in a car so nothing to do with property!!
- vicki (8/5): Lovely situation and beautifully decorated - Lovely room, not as described on my booking, but very nice Lovely outlook. Shower over bath with no grab handles. Photos showed walk in shower so I didn't bother to check before booking. Didn't see a member of staff although there was a phone number for emergencies.
- Thomson (10/5): - Perfect for my visit to the area
- SuzieE85 (10/5): - Beautiful decor, very clean and tidy, great parking area, fabulous customer service, peaceful and quiet setting, brilliant tea selection, felt safe and secure even though it's a self service/let yourself in, spacious room, brand new modern bathroom.
And these are just a few of the best points! Everything was great, especially given the price of the rooms.
- Hodges (10/5): I wish I could keep this a secret but the Grange needs to be booked, used and appreciated. - The breakfast was lovely. Only continental but delicious. Esther and Melissa were really nice, friendly and very helpful. It was very peaceful and quiet. Spotless clean and decorated to the highest quality. Bedroom was large and we had a small outside space of our own and the gardens. Think you might need a car but arboretum was within walking distance, local pub, tearoom, heritage train line and small shop.. Lovely to read the book about the village and the small book from the post office about a villagers life. Beautiful old church just at the top of the hill. History here to read too. Bell ringing practice on Tuesday night. What a treat. I really liked the Grange. Handy for Arley station to watch/ catch the steam trains. Nothing opens on a Monday though! Highly recommend this lovely place if your looking for a slow, relaxing, peaceful break. It's not a hotel it's more of a boutique room stay. There are staff there at times during the day such as breakfast and if your very lucky like us Melissa may be there, but there are no staff permanently on sight. If you want or need anything Esther will help you at breakfast or you could use the phone in an emergency. I don't really think you could ask for more than you were given, there was nothing I didn't like. The green light in the bedroom that people mention didn't bother us at all.
- Karl (10/5): We’ll be Back…… loved it.. - Booked a twin room as didn’t look when booked, 2 night stay and they moved us on the secondary day so we had 1 night in the twin and 1 in a double, they did this without any trouble, no issues as it was my fault but they went out of there way to ensure we had a good stay.. can’t thank them enough.. Rooms are clean, well made, and comfortable.
Views over the valley are great and you can sit out and watch the Bats at night.. ( Double Room )
Twin was really comfortable, well maintained and spacious, view was restricted but still ok.
Very Quiet…… lovely..
- Nicola (10/5): - Wow, such an amazing property in a truly beautiful location. The rooms were spacious and immaculate. Nothing
- Howard (7/5): -
- * (10/5): Stunning little gem...love it here. - The room is really lovely. The garden rooms back onto a grassy area and beyond a field full of sheep and the valley. You can spot trains going by on the Great Western Railway also. And some lovely sunsets. The room is really lovely too. The cushions and bedding are lovely. The staff are a credit to the establishment... really lovely people. Ps. Get breakfast the warm croissants are lush!! The only thing is the hot water isn't that hot. I ran a bath with only the hot water tap on and it was ok to jump into being just warm enough.
- Kenneth (10/5): One word needed only ...."Delightful" - An exceptional little hotel with immaculately clean rooms and an attention to detail that leaves the corporates trailing in it's wake. A very comfortable peacefull stay with everything we could possibly need to complete our enjoyment. I honestly cannot think of anything that the owner could do to better our stay. Perhaps a hot breakfast option?... but with just a small number of rooms I can understand why this is not really viable. We breakfasted out with friends and there are lost of options nearby if a hot meal is important.
- Stephen (10/5): A perfect little gem in Arley - An absolute little gem right in Arley. So peaceful. Returned for our first wedding anniversary as got married at Arley last year, spotless clean. easy instructions for access to the property. Great parking even a couple of surprises left in our room. Continental Breakfast was lovely Charlotte was really helpful at breakfast. Can’t wait to return. Nothing that we didn’t like
- Amanda (10/5): Exceptional property, location and staff made our stay with family and friends a memorable break. - This is a real treasure, Upper Arley and the surrounding area is a stunning place to visit.
The property, a Georgian house has been beautifully restored and decorated in keeping with its heritage. Great bedrooms and facilites that far exceeded my expectations - we will be back!!
I loved the continental breakfast there was a good selection for everyone and the staff were amazing thank you so much Mel and Raven for making us feel so welcome and catered for all our needs, nothing was too much trouble - exceptional service.
- Alison (10/5): Friendly staff, comfortable bed and exceptionally clean! - Room was very clean had everything you would need for a comfortable nights sleep. Perfect location.
- Susan (10/5): Beautiful Hotel - The hotel was beautiful. Very Farrow and Ball. Spotless and comfortable. Great WiFi connection. It is located in stunning grounds. There was plenty of parking spaces. It is in a very quiet location. Only a sort walk to the Steam Railway and local pub over the river. The staff were very helpful and approachable. Thank you, Ester and Mel. This is just nit picking.... The key lock on the door to room 6 was difficult for me to lock and unlock. It was quite warm in the rooms. Although an electric fan was provided I did not use them it would be helpful to have a small fridge for customers staying more than 1 day. My stay was for 4 nights.
- Angela (9/5): Superb -
- Diane (10/5): Lovely stay in this beautiful old Georgian building - Lovely stay for our wedding anniversary in this beautiful old Georgian building. Loved the decor in our room, and we actually had a lovely coffee maker that works unlike other hotels. Ample breakfast croissants, toasts cereals and great coffee. Green light directly over my side of the bed which kept me awake. Apparently a health and safety nightlight. Never stayed anywhere before with one that was so noticeable
- Kyle (10/5): Exceptional -
- Vanessa (9/5): Idyllic accommodation (and ideal if visiting Black Country Museum) - Peaceful location- and wonderful outside patio area & fabulous breakfast staff, very friendly (and special effort put into our pre-ordered gluten free breakfast) Bottled water would be appreciated
- Sarah (8/5): Lovely location very good value - Beautiful property
Perfectly situated in Arley
Nicely decorated
Clean rooms and bathroom
A lovely fresh good quality buffet breakfast The bed was hard too hard for me and there’s a very bright green light on the ceiling which is a compulsory safety system but impossible to sleep
A bottle of water in the bedroom would be appreciated
- Peter (10/5): Fabulous from start to finish - Stunning Nothing it is superb
- Wilson (10/5): Exceptional - Beautiful setting, quiet. Helpful staff. Excellent continental breakfast
- Tanya (9/5): Superb -
- Stuart (8/5): Great place to stay. - The location was fantastic. The tickets to the local arboretum were nice. Maybe a fridge in the room would have helped keep our drinks cold as it was very hot. Also some bottles of water would be nice.
- Michele (10/5): Beautiful rooms in lovely setting - The Grange is in a really lovely setting, a short distance from the river. It’s an old converted house. The rooms are tastefully decorated and well appointed. The welcome from the staff was warm and inviting. Breakfast was good too. Will definitely stay there again Nothing, it was all perfect
- Stewart (10/5): Travelled by kayak and property very accommodating of us and our kayaks - First class property in a beautiful location
- David (9/5): Superb -
- Matthew (10/5): Relaxing break away - Lovely walks, beautiful scenery, nice and quiet, The room did get a bit hot and dry air in the night,
I think the room is a little bit overpriced,
- Elaine (10/5): A gem in a lovely village - What a gem of a place! Comfy bed, big high ceilings, very clean, well stocked toiletries ( even a little sewing kit- thankfully as the fastening on a blouse broke!), quiet location. The continental breakfast was delicious and served by two lovely ladies. And a bonus, it was a 5 mins walk to the beautiful Arley Arboretum and 20 mins to the delightful Arley station. We originally booked the place because it's also dog friendly. A full length mirror would have made it even better
- Celia (10/5): Relaxing and idyllic - Beautiful location. And such friendly staff. I loved that it was so easy to check in. So relaxed and had everything we needed in the room. Thank you for being so welcoming to my dog and organising me an extra bed and accessible accommodation for my my mum. Ester went above and beyond with our whole booking and kept me informed along the way. Thank you for such a delicious breakfast too.
- Graham (9/5): Brilliant - Breakfast was lovely - it was set in beautifull grounds shame we only booked 1 night - will have to come back again and explore the local area Nothing not to like
- Susan (10/5): Lovely place to stay, very comfortable and Charlotte at breakfast was very knowledgeable about the are and was helpful a - It’s in a lovely location
Beautiful decor
Very clean Nothing
- Simon (10/5): Excellent. - Excellent. Nothing.
- Dee (9/5): A beautiful retreat in total tranquility set in the best of Shropshire countryside. - It was nicely presented and tastefully decorated in a very peaceful location.
Having patio doors onto a terrace with seating meant the beautiful scenery could be fully appreciated.
Ample supplies of beverages were available and contactless check in and check out worked efficiently. We would have liked a cooked breakfast but only continental was available. However, within short walking distance, a village café provided everything we needed.
A full length mirror would have been appreciated and, although comfortable, the bed was a bit on the small side.
- Karen (10/5): Beautiful room set in stunning grounds. Will definitely be returning. - Immaculate room . Decorated to a very high standard. Comfortable bed and pillows. Surrounded by beautiful grounds.
Easy and effective check-in system.
Breakfast was perfect in the lovely little barn.
Charlotte, a member of staff, was so friendly and helpful. Informed us about the history of the estate and suggested many sightseeing venues. Everything was perfect !
- Tara (10/5): Exceptional - Would be lovely to have a cooked breakfast, however the Continental was nice
- Nock (10/5): Exceptional - the size of the room was great.
- Sophie (7/5): Lovely room, excellent location, disappointing breakfast. - Excellent location on the banks of the River Severn, perfect for beautiful walks along the river. Comfortable rooms, very quiet for a peaceful night's sleep. The 'self-check in' was confusing though the staff sorted it out on arrival; the breakfast was very disappointing: I asked for decaf coffee and was given instant; UPF break and cheap sliced ham/cheese, green bananas, some Kellogs - overall, a cheap and substandard breakfast (not what one expects for this sort of accommodation).
- Edward (9/5): Superb - Spacious bright comfortable room.
- Andy (9/5): Superb -
- Clive (8/5): Very good - Fantastic place. Great location. Would have liked the option of a full English breakfast. Couldn't get the heating to work properly unless it was us!
- Tara (9/5): Beautiful location, fantastic rooms, easy access, would recommend. - Breakfast was nice, would definately benefit from a cooked breakfast. The offer of a cooked breakfast.
- Lisa (10/5): Exceptional - Beautiful setting and accommodation. Ultra quiet!
- Claire (10/5): Exceptional -
- Andrew (9/5): Superb -
- Abigail (8/5): Very good -
- Bethany (10/5): Exceptional -
- Paul (8/5): Very good -
- Jacklyn (10/5): Comfortable, clean beautiful place - Lovely breakfast and great host
- Wayne (6/5): Not as good as previous visit - Beautifully presented and very clean. A pir light in my bedroom stayed permanently on all night which meant I couldn’t sleep, couldn’t switch the light off either. We stayed here 2 years ago and had access to the old barn room but now sadly that is only used for breakfast which is a total waste in my mind. Won’t be staying here again sadly.
- Amanda (10/5): Exceptional -
- Bhavikaben (8/5): Very good - Clean Na
- Joanna (10/5): Able to check in early for a family wedding. Great communication. Couldn’t do enough for us. - Clean and beautifully decorated.
- Liene (9/5): Beautiful place to stay if you are looking to stay in the countryside. - Beautiful room, amazing view Very remote, booked the hotel room to go after wedding attending nearby, felt like we were in thr middle of nowhere.
- Freya (10/5): Exceptional - The hotel was lovely, and our room was extremely comfortable. The only 'negative' in our room was that the taps in the bathroom didn't get very cold, but that wasn't really a problem, and is because it's an old building so can't really be helped. Breakfast was lovely and the staff at breakfast were really nice and friendly. It is a very remote location, and taxis were not always reliable, but this is not the hotels fault! Also if you are able to drive everywhere then this isn't a problem
- O' (9/5): Superb -
- Laura (10/5): Absolutely perfect! - Such an incredible place. I stayed here the night before my wedding. Ester couldn’t have been more helpful. It was spotless. Breakfast was lovely. Communication all the way was amazing. Nothing at all! Maybe a little lounge area would be useful but not relevant for all guests.
- Laura (10/5): Exceptional -
- Carole (10/5): The grange is a beautiful hotel, so very clean and comfortable - Located in the beautiful village of Arley. My room was exceptional and the staff were very accommodating There are no negatives about this property
- Fern (6/5): Pleasant -
- Ali (10/5): Fresh and clean. Would stay again. - Fresh clean room and en-suite. Plentiful continental breakfast. Quiet location. Five minute walk to the arboretum. Easy self check in. Easy to find evening meals within a short drive. It was clear on booking that this wasn’t a hotel but having a separate communal lounge area to sit in other than your bedroom would have been a bonus.
- Jessica (10/5): Exceptional -
- Judith (8/5): Very good - Quietness Would have been good to have a ground floor, we were on the top.
- Amanda (9/5): Perfect combination of Accomodation and day’s entertainment at Arley Arboretum. A winner - Smart, well equipped, comfortable, idyllic location, Might have preferred cooked breakfast
- Selina (10/5): Exceptional -
- Hayley (8/5): Great place to stay - Great place to stay, very quiet and peaceful. Room was lovely design and very clean. Bright green light on in the room all night which affected sleep but I’m sure there’s a reason for such light in the ceiling!
- Hayley (10/5): Beautiful house in the picturesque village of Upper Arley. Had the most wonderful stay, thank you! -
