- jackie (9/5): Perfect house for a family group - Lovely and spacious- perfect for a multi generational stay! Great location too in the historic Dutch quarter close to the centre.
Nice and warm too!
- Ann (8/5): - Location. Style of house. Value for money. Needed updating and a thorough clean. Basic equipment not provided eg no dishwasher tablets, no washing up liquid., no cleaning cloths, no shower gel/soap.
- steven (10/5): - Write in the middle of all the surrounding area main town and all walks in the area easy accessible Quite a lot of stairs not a problem for me but with children or you have disability this will cause a problem
- Victoria (10/5): A wonderful stay, absolutely perfect location, right in the heart of the city but also quiet. -
- Lucy (9/5): Great stay for 5 of us in beautiful Colchester property. - Great location just off the high street. Loads of space and well equipped.
- Clare (10/5): Perfect place to relax to catch up with friends and family - Very clean comfortable beds plenty of room and good location to restaurants and shops
- Anna Melina (6/5): - Klasse Lage in Innenstadtnähe. Nette Gastgeber. Sind ansprechbar und kümmern sich wo möglich zeitnah um Probleme. Leider ziemlich dreckig (Ofen, Couch, Kühlschrank, Gartenmöbel).
Die Ausstattung in der Küche ließ zu wünschen übrig.

- Melissa (10/5): Had a brilliant stay, perfect location! - Lovely townhouse with loads of character! Just off the high street so close enough to enjoy all the local shops and bars but very quiet. House was very clean and owners was very helpful and accommodating. Would definitely stay again!
- Isobel (7/5): We really enjoyed our stay. The house could do with a bit of tlc but overall it suited our need well - It was a great space and had parking. Was a little bit shabby. Could do with some tlc.
- Flack (10/5): A very comfortable place to stay for a large family or friends group - A beautiful and spacious home in a fantastic central location in Colchester. We had a wonderful family Christmas in this house. The host was very responsive to our few requests and we would definitely go back. The townhouse design, over four floors, makes it unsuitable if you wish to avoid lots of stairs.
- Rebecca (8/5): Lovely house in a great location. - Fantastic location, near to the town centre, but on a quiet street. The house is very spacious, with a well-equipped kitchen, large sitting room, and dining room. Plenty of bedrooms and bathrooms for our big group. The hosts were wonderful - very responsive and kind. This is the perfect house to bring together family groups. There were lots of lovely toys and games in the sitting room, and parking for 4 cars (although make sure you're good at reversing!). Overall, it was a fabulous place to stay. There was a problem with the dishwasher, but I understand that this is now being replaced - perhaps best to check this has happened before a stay here. The hosts are being let down by the cleaning company - bathrooms and rugs would have benefitted from a much more thorough clean.
- Claire (9/5): Great property, great location 👍🏼 - Space within property was great, furniture and beds were comfortable, and rooms very well set out - toilet facilites on all floors where required. Parking was great for such a central location. The location is a few minutes from town and castle park (lovely for walks, great playground facilities for children of all ages)
Would definitely come again The stairs from the first to the 2nd (top) floor are very steep and there are some creaking floorboards in the property, but we very quickly got used to this.- it's an old building, adds to the character.
- Grieve (9/5): Completely exceed our expectations and we loved the glow worms - Location was fantastic, we enjoyed the castle park Nothing
- Kay (8/5): Excellent location - The house had a good layout N/A
- Bibigul (10/5): Exceptional - We loved the place🥰
- Kathleen (9/5): Fabulous weekend with friends. - Lovely spacious property with excellent, close access to town and spacious, private parking to the rear of the property. Clear communication from owners. Lots of bedrooms and bathrooms to make sharing with friends very comfortable. Very little, as the property and the whole stay was great and very comfortable, more hand soap was the only tiny thing that could have been improved.
- Anita (10/5): Very good location for a family visiting Colchester for a 60th birthday party - The property was spacious, really good location Very creaky floorboards.
WiFi didn’t work
- Brian (7/5): Great location, house full of character, needs some quality control - The house is in a great location, set back 200m from the main high street area down a quiet residential cobbled street which makes it great for getting around and going out for drinks etc. There is a large spacious lounge in the basement with lots of comfy sofas and plenty of space. The house has character, good heating and plenty of hot water. It really wins for central location, and the top floor rooms have nice views out over the rooftops. When it came to our first night's meal, we found quite a few plates and glasses still had food residue all over. I thought this was odd so checked the dishwasher and it was full of thick black mould and it absolutely stank. We ran a cleaning cycle but no better and appears to only have a dribble of cold water running, no heat. This meant that for our group of 10, we had to hand wash all weekend. Reported to owner who said that they didn't know about the dishwasher problem, but looking in reviews, someone else mentions it 2 months ago in January in their reviews as well. It wasn't a new problem. Not the end of the world but for a big family get-together, it's a pain to have to handwash everything on arrival and then handwash all weekend when you want to be out doing stuff. Also the wifi didn't work (the host told us so on arrival), and 1/4 of the plates and mugs had chips out of the rims. Children's bedroom only had 1 out of 3 lightbulbs fitted. Little things like that. 5* location and potential, let down by 3* quality control.
- Jo (10/5): Fabulous house, everything exactly as described, and the location could not have been better. - Fabulous house just minutes away from the Castle Park, local shops and city centre attractions. Quiet street. Comfortable beds, lots of bathrooms, good hot water, brilliant central heating. Huge well-equipped kitchen, great to have the big table to sit around. Super lounge space in the basement. Everything was wonderful. Fast responses when I had a couple of questions.
- Emma (8/5): Very good -
- Samantha (10/5): Exceptional - The size of the house itself and the location was excellent The stairs were a bit steep
- Keelie (10/5): Thoroughly enjoyed our stay, the photos do not do justice on how spacious this house really is! - Location was amazing, house was a great size. Travelled for a 60th including children which was a great touch having a toy kitchen within the house also! Would definitely recommend and stay again! There was nothing to dislike, the floors were a little creaky but that just added character to this beautiful house!
- Alastair (8/5): Very good - Great location, central to the old, interesting core of Colchester, just a very short walk away.
It has off-street parking - essential within those ancient narrow lanes (via a low-height coaching-arch, which only just allowed my 1.85 metre vehicle under.)
Very adequately accommodated us four adults, four young adults and one baby, along with a spacious sub-basement lounge & comfy area to congregate in the Christmas tree was a nice touch. Part and parcel of an ancient property, but take care driving a longer car into the awkward parking, via the bent approach up a canted drive-ramp to the secure parking spots, and from which one has to reverse out into the neighbours' back yard!
The following items shouldn't put you off at all from staying here, but note that it appears the owners' Agent and Contract Cleaners really let the Owners down in some aspects, which Agents hate being picked up on.
-The previous occupants left a drain-full of fag butts outside the back door;
-they also left streaky cutlery and other less-than-clean daily items - and we scrubwashed all the oily baking pans despite not using them, for example.
-the Dishwasher was so blocked and mouldy it is unuseable: normally we'd clean its filters etc (we rent out our own properties, so we know how poor most Agents, Cleaners and some tenants can be), but we drew the line here at doing anything more than running two programmes to attempt to sterilise it; personally I'd throw it.
-the SMD (hard-wired smoke detector) in the stairwell was missing, leaving only the base & connector-block;
-in the top floor landing shower/toilet room, the wall- mounted radiator is precariously 'installed', in danger of both falling off the wall, and flooding the property from top down. We have three of the same rads for comparison - because its not a difficult model to install. But but that one is so poorly installed that the plumber should be added to the You're Fired list.
As I stress, these will be easily remedied issues, and shouldn't deter one from enjoying a lovely property in a great location.
- Caz (9/5): A delightful place to spend some time with family or friends. - A lovely, spacious, well equiped, clean house with plenty of charm. A very handy location for Colchester on foot, and surrounding area by car. Good communication from owners.
- Laura (8/5): Excellent family stay in a great location -
- Greaves (8/5): Very good - Very nice house Virgin stopped kept overheating and not working. 1st floor bathroom sink was blocked with the plug which made it unusable.
- Jorin (8/5): Very good -
- Mohamed (10/5): Had a wonderful 7 nights stay. The townhouse turned out to be better than I thought ot would - The property is well taken care of and very close to the city centre Entrant to the parking area is a bit narrow for big vehicles
- Mark (10/5): Exceptional -
- Margaret (10/5): perfect for our family Christmas break - Spacious, comfortable house. Well equipped with everything we needed during our stay, from the bedrooms to the lounge and definitely the kitchen, we couldn't have wished for more. Great location with easy access to the high street and it's mix of shops, bars and restaurants. The castle park is minutes from the property and is a great place for a leisurely stroll or to take the kids.
Toyah is a fantastic host, easy to communicate with and passionate about you having the best stay possible.
Highly recommend, the property is equally suitable for a family/friends get together as it is for a relaxing break.
- Natalie (10/5): Excellent central Colchester stay, perfect for a weekend away. - The property was modern and really spacious. It was well equipped and in a perfect location, with enough parking for 4 cars.
