Guest Reviews
- Ciceri (3/5): - The bed was comfy and they offered us ice cream upon arrival. Wifi wasn’t working, cold water only, no response to our messages, no clarity about check out or breakfast and (by mistake, but still) some of the staff tried entering our room at 2am scaring us out.

- Olivia (9/5): Comfortable, relaxed stay with great breakfast and good hospitality! - Amazing hospitality with delicious & generous size breakfast each morning, which even varied day by day! The staff were so kind and helpful, offered us free tea/coffee/ice cream throughout the day. The bed was huge, the biggest we’ve come across in Sri Lanka and extremely comfortable.
Place was clean and had some nice communal areas to relax as well as a kitchen and a fridge which came in very useful!! Location is good, a 10-15 min walk from the beach with plenty of restaurants and facilities around , just be aware it is up a hill! Thank you :)
- Tamas (9/5): - I liked that the house was inside the nature, it had a good vibe and was really quite. The pets were really cute, especially the newborn cats. The hosts were really kind and we loved the breakfast. Our non AC room was a bit hot, but we got used to it with the help of the fan. I’d rather book a room with AC next time.
- kirsi (8/5): Nice stay in jungle atmosphere - Nice jungle atmosphere. The breakfast was nice. The staff was nice. The room was nice even it was quite small. Walking distance was a bit too much for me since it was upwards... For my daughter it was no problem.
English language skills would be usefull to be able communicate better.
If I remember correct, there was no soap in the bathroom.
- Pruksa (10/5): - It was so lovely!
- Guest (8/5): It's a really beautiful, comfortable, peaceful environment. The food and drinks are very good. Frie -

- Jessie (9/5): Beautiful local experience, best breakfast - This is a very nice, natural place. In ten minutes you are at the beach. We stayed in the AC room because we cannot sleep in the heat. The AC room is everything you need. There are a few cats walking around but we dont mind that, they are cute. When your there, please give some love to the orange cat, he loves it. The breakfast is the highlight of this place, everyday something different! People are very kind and you can buy waters and store your food in the fridge.
- Inevdh (10/5): Exceptional - Nice place to stay! The location is not far from the beach, restaurants etc.. but its uphill. Its runned by a kind and caring family. The room is either basic but i dont think you can ask for much more for the price you pay.
- Rose (10/5): Exceptional - We loved art house, the bed was very comfortable and big, ac worked well and clean bathroom. It's located in quite location amongst the trees. Friendly and helpful hosts. Breakfast was traditional sri lankian and tea. We also were easily able to hire a scooter. Also has his own tuk tuk and can get a ride for good price.
It's 10 mins walk from the beach, it is uphill on the way back, but that's why it's quiet here and was no problem for us. Resturants less than 5 mins walk away.
Would have stayed longer! Nothing.
- Lennart (2/5): There is a reason why they won’t let you cancel - They have a sweet cat that runs around the property So I won’t focus on the things like a small bed or small doors where you will constantly hit your head when you enter if you are over 6 feet, but really what made us have a bad stay. First of all, the location is quite far and up and down a hill which is quite annoying. You would say it must be a quiet place then, but you be wrong. Dogs, Bangs and Music in the distance have troubled us. The room was small with a large bed and a weird cabin mirror which is mostly in the way. No room for luggage if you still want to open the door or not deposit your things in the bathroom. There is just one loud fan which also contributed a lot to bad sleeps. The towels were smelly and had stains aswell as the bedsheets. In every corner you will find spiders. In the sleeping room and in the bathroom. Although the accommodation offered a mosquito net, mosquito will enter easily through openings above the window. This didn’t help for cooling. In the morning it feels like there is no light at all. Like waking up at night. But at night the light in the yard is on so it won’t get dark, which can be an issue if you aren’t able to sleep with lights on. Breakfast was not worth it, i’d rather go out and get great breakfast around for 3$ each. This was just things grabbed from the streets the night before. Communication was also not possible due to both host not speaking English. We have looked for other places around the area which are way nicer in comparison. Location, space and accommodation. These pictures mislead us, don’t let them mislead you.
- Tim (7/5): Good - The location was calm and quiet. We got a good sleep there. Breakfast was ok. We really appreciated that we got a free ride to the bus station. The garden is small but very green and beautiful. The price was ok for this standard. The room was very small and dark, there is no hot water in the shower. There were spider webs on the walls.
- Saskia (8/5): Nice 3 night stay - Friendly owner, good communication, nice local breakfast. The area is a bit out of the town on a hill so it’s very quiet up there. You can watch monkeys and peacocks in the forrest around.
- Amit (10/5): Exceptional -
- Andreu (10/5): Enjoyable stay at hiriketiya - Almost everything was really good. It is a familiar and little house with a very cute garden or place to stay, also the breakfast was really good and completed. The house is more or less 10 min from the beach and the path through it, is nice and relaxing. Nothing.
- Axelsson (10/5): Exceptional - Amazing hospitality, really good vibes, super cozy garden hangout space and nothing to disturb at night except the occasional dog bark.
- Joline (10/5): Fab - Lovely home and room. A lovely chill space outside.
Breakfast was tasty and the owner is really friendly and kind. Nothing
- Paul (9/5): Chilled spot - Great location just outside town very quiet great for a good night's sleep! Breakfast was brilliant and a nice family who run it Nothing
- Robert (10/5): Exceptional -
- Laura (10/5): Stunning jungle abode run by lovely family - This was a beautiful, peaceful retreat nestled in a quiet residential road in the jungle. An exceptional value for money. The family who runs it is incredibly welcoming and accommodating, especially the son who is your main point of contact.
Upon arrival, I was greeted with a fresh King coconut to drink, and the following day, when a new guest arrived, we were both offered delicious papaya juice. The hospitality was outstanding—while I was working on the terrace, the son brought me tea and snacks, which was such a thoughtful touch.
The breakfast is amazing! Be prepared for a generous spread—honestly, it’s enough to fuel you for the entire day. I can confidently say it was one of the best breakfasts I’ve had in Sri Lanka. If you're vegetarian, just let them know when you arrive.
The room was lovely—exceptionally clean, with a comfortable bed and ensuite bathroom. The terrace and front garden, which is shared only with other guests, (the family have a garden at the back which theyoffer a stunning, peaceful space to work or simply relax and enjoy the jungle views. I even spotted monkeys and peacocks!
Some people might say the walk home from town is a bit far, but I personally loved it, especially with fireflies lighting the way in the evenings.
100% recommend Art House Hiriketiya, and I’d love to stay here again in the future! I liked it all..
- Vishi (10/5): Exceptional -
- Marisa (10/5): Exceptional - We had a fantastic stay. It is a peaceful place located at the top of a hill and only 10 min walking from the beach. The beds were comfortable and the rooms were clean. But the best thing is how kind the owners are and the amazing breakfast they prepared to us every day.
- Maryna (10/5): I highly recommend, price and quality are value - I really recommend this place. Family is very kind, helpful, intelligent. I love small green yard and all around: many monkeys, peacocks, ground squirrel, lizard, dog, cat❤️❤️What a good breakfast guys cook!!And I can suggest you order dinner here-whatever you want to eat-they will cook for you,and believe me-taste ,portion and prices will satisfy you!
I read that in Sri-Lanka often can be power outage-but during my stay electricity was always on.
Also about mosquito -I saw only 2,there were almost zero ,they did not distorb me. the road to the house has many steep hills, and I can say all Dikwella around beach has it-so be ready run high or order tuk-tuk.
Its far from beach-but I can say its plus for people that prefer quite atmosphere. All hotels and houses close to the roads or beach,cafe-are very noisy. So here you can hear only birds and squirrel🥰
There is no hot water in shower( I read this in reviews before come, for me was not a problem).
- Contos (10/5): A affordable, pleasant and peaceful stay - We absolutely loved our stay at this charming and affordable room in Herkitia! My partner and I enjoyed it so much that we ended up extending our visit and coming back later on in our trip.
The host/s was incredibly welcoming, and the peaceful surroundings made it a perfect getaway. Breakfast every morning was just amazing, and the whole family went above and beyond to ensure we had a fantastic time. Highly recommend it!
- Anna-lenah (7/5): Good -
- Lucas (10/5): Exceptional -
- Samantha (2/5): Was not comfortable. - The paintings were nice. Well, when I checked into my room the bathroom was not clean. There was fresh urine all over the toilet seat. The room smelt very strongly of mold and urine. The sheets were quite stained. It was upsetting. I didn’t end up staying in that room. The rooms were very hot. Communication was also quite difficult.
- Jack (10/5): Exceptional -
- Hanna (10/5): Would 100% recommend - It's a beautifully maintained family home with a lovely garden overlooking greenery and the occasional monkey passing by. It's a 15 min walk from the center up a hill, but you can rent a good scooter directly from the family. The breakfast from the mother of the host was phenomenal - she cooked up a Sri Lankan feast every morning. Best breakfast of our whole trip. Compared to other accommodations in Hiriketiya, you really get value for your money here. We even got a king coconut on our arrival. We were asked every day at what time we wanted breakfast the next day by the son of the family. The family doesn't speak English and gives you complete privacy, but you can tell they are lovely people. Perhaps a second ventilator in the room would be great :)
- Sophie (10/5): me and my friend had an excellent stay here! - great accommodation, good location and amazing breakfast. everyone one was friendly and helpful if we had a question :). room also totally fine and clean.
- Ursula (10/5): Best place to relax and enjoy in a very artistic surrounding - Its very artistic place Nothing
- Léa (10/5): Lovely stay, quiet and pretty. The breakfast was amazing, and the room is comfy and very clean! - I love this place, it’s quiet, and very pretty!
- Hannah (9/5): Superb - The Host and his Family were very welcoming and helpful.
- Luka (10/5): Exceptional - The employes was really friendly. They also drive us to the bus station and charged nothing for it.
