Guest Reviews
- Kim (10/5): The most magical stay we had in Egypt - I am SO SAD we could only stay one night. This place was an absolute dream. Yasser is the kindest Nubian man we’ve met. He gave us a tour of his farm, showed us his animals, talked about his culture.
The room? MAGICAL. You have the perfect view of the Nile on your balcony. We spent the day inside the room when it was 40 degrees, reading while also looking outside, with the fan on. It was just perfect.
His son showed us where we could swim. But for me it’s how clean and comfortable this room was. The shower (compared to most we had in Egypt) was big and comfortable. The room was VERY clean, the ceiling was painted in a Nubian style with the tiles. And the balcony had two chairs for us to seat and enjoy the sparkly Nile with the dunes and the palaces in front.
I am really hoping to come back to this guest house, honestly. Yasser THANK YOU. NOTHING. It was a 10/10 across the board!
- Diletta (8/5): Ottoman posizione, vista bellissima e il proprietario e i figli veramente gentili e disposability. -
Rien
- Carina Prantl (10/5): Perfect place to relax and explore - I can only recommend staying with Yasser and his family. They are very welcoming and helpful in every way. The room was big, very clean and we had a great view from the balcony. It was so peaceful and quiet and the surrounding area and views are stunning. It's only a short walk from the ferry but you can also take a boat from the house. Thanks for a great experience and hospitality.
- eva (10/5): - Prachtig terras en vriendelijke host! Niets
Görevliler her konuda yardımcı oldu.
- Reto (10/5): - I stayed for 6 nights and loved it. The host, Yasir, is amazing—very calm, kind, and 100% trustworthy. He was always there when I needed help. The location is super peaceful, away from the noise, with a fantastic Nile view. Great local restaurants are nearby and the breakfast was delicious. Highly recommended for anyone seeking a quiet, safe, and authentic experience! -
- Emily (10/5): Very pleasant stay - Lovely room and view of the nile from the balcony. Friendly family run establishment. Good restaruants nearby. Be aware it is on opposite side of island from the main ferry terminal but only a five minute walk across the island.
- Ursula (10/5): - Yaser and his family hosted us with great hospitality. From the balcony of our room we had a marvelous view over the Nile. We enjoyed the quiet and peaceful atmosphere very much. Happy to have chosen this place. The bathroom is simple, but functional and clean.
- KAI (10/5): -
- Fayrouz (10/5): Amazing!!! Will come again and again if I have a chance! - A very warm welcome from the owner. He picked us up by boat from Aswan to the island and helped with our luggage. The view is stunning and breathtaking. The place is clean, warm and comfortable. Everything was excellent !
- Jenny Clarke (10/5): Quiet location with amazing views - Lovely location on the quiet side of elephantine island. Stunning sunsets from the balcony and amazing views. Yasser and his family were welcoming and attentive. They can organise boat trips and tours if you so choose.
The room was comfy and relaxing and it was nice to be in such a quiet area right next to the Nile.
- Francisco (10/5): Muy autentico - Las personas y las vistas
- Marco Antonio (10/5): Authentic Nubian hospitality - home away from home - My stay at Dangy Kato on Elephantine Island was one of the highlights of my time in Aswan. I visited as a solo traveler and couldn’t have chosen a better place to experience Nubian life and culture.
Elephantine Island itself is magical, especially the west side where the guesthouse is located. The setting is incredibly serene, right by the water, and feels worlds away from the bustle of the city. Don’t let the fact that it’s on an island deter you from booking; access to Aswan is easy, cheap and part of the charm.
Yaser is an exceptional host - warm, generous, and always smiling. From the moment I arrived, he made me feel like part of the community rather. He showed me around the island, welcomed me with homemade hibiscus tea, and even cooked a delicious meal for me on the day I was leaving. In addition, Yaser helped arrange my trip to Abu Simbel, my airport transfer, and often offered boat rides to Aswan. His son Ammar was equally great, and together they went above and beyond to make my stay special. The entire household is truly top-notch.
This is a guesthouse is ideal for travelers who want to immerse themselves in the Nubian culture and humble way of life. My only regret is not staying longer. I will absolutely be back - and I would choose to stay at Dangy Kato with Yaser and his family again in a heartbeat. -
- marc (10/5): - Beautiful location opposite the Aga Khan's tomb and the Coptic monastery, with its feluccas ballet.
Yaser and his family are incredibly attentive.
I highly recommend it for a peaceful and picturesque stay.
- Corentin (10/5): - Beautiful place, Nice and helpful host with his son, such a good time there !
- Angharad (10/5): - Fabulous place and view amazing from balcony. Especially sunset. Aswan is lovely! And Elephantine island, so nice just to walk around. Hosts are wonderful hosts. Beds quite firm but still comfortable. Excellent place to relax and you can use the little
kitchen if you need to. Wish we could have stayed longer.
- Andrew (10/5): If you want peace, beautiful views, incredible food, and a truly welcoming family stay, Dangy Kato is exceptional. Highl - If you’re craving a break from the hustle and bustle of Egypt’s cities (as we were), Dangy Kato is the perfect place to unwind and experience a rare, authentic glimpse of Egyptian family life. We’d read that this side of Elephantine Island was quieter — and it’s absolutely right. We spent hours watching the boats drift by and the desert colours shift at sunset. The balcony rooms overlook the Aga Khan III Mausoleum across the Nile, and honestly, it’s one of the most spectacular views on the entire island.
The home-cooked meals were an unexpected highlight — truly outstanding!!! Some of the most delicious and wholesome food we’ve had in all our travels, served on a huge silver tray on your own balcony. I’m genuinely worried our upcoming Nile cruise won’t compare!
Yasser, his wife Sammah, and their sons are warm, generous people who made this part of our trip unforgettable. Yasser organised our airport pick-up (very helpful as we arrived after dark), and his son Amar took us by boat to the Nubian village. We also arranged an Abu Simbel trip through them — everything was seamless, and we felt completely taken care of the whole time. Liked everything! Wasn’t sure at booking if we could pay by credit card at the property, but you can, which was great.
- Anna Celeste (10/5): Great service and beautiful views - The owner and son are very helpful to get you to and from the island. The view from the balcony is one of the best spots on elephantine. The breakfast was wonderful and they were very accommodating to our needs. They are wonderful to help you feel at home in Aswan and help with any needs.
- Peter (6/5): Other places are better - Room was ok for the price and location was good although not directly on the water When we were met by the owner, I was asked to cancel my booking at dangy Kato on booking.com and pay him directly .. it's not something I would like to do, but had
to do because he wanted payment and said he didn't have an account with booking . additionally he kept asking were we going to book more nights and we said we didn't know ( by then it was a no) and asking us where we were moving too , felt too intrusive . The balcony had a great view but only 2 plastic chairs that were in the room that you could put outside to sit on and no shade so couldn't sit out in the 37c heat. There are better places on the west of the island that we stayed in.
- Heidi (10/5): - My father and I stayed at Dangky Kato and had a wonderful time. The owner and his sons are so wonderful and very helpful with anything we needed. The island was great for relaxing and everyone on the island is so nice and helps with anything you need. We highly recommend this guest house to anyone coming to Aswan!:)
- Abigail (10/5): Amazing experience at Dangy Kato - Dangy Kato Guesthouse is a beautiful place on Elephantine Island in Aswan. Before we even arrived, Yaser contacted us to ask about our needs, and when we landed he picked us up from the airport and took us to his home. Yaser is an excellent host, kind, attentive, and always making sure we had everything we needed. His house is truly amazing, right on the Nile riverbank, very calm, very clean, cozy, with A/C and perfectly located. The food, cooked by his wife, was delicious, and their son took us on a wonderful boat trip along the Nile. Yaser also arranged our transport from Aswan to Luxor, which made everything so easy. We felt completely comfortable, peaceful, lucky, and happy during our stay. If you’re looking for a place with personalized attention, local connections, and genuine experiences while also supporting the Nubian community and getting to know their culture, which is not always as mainstream as the main tourist attractions. Dangy Kato Guesthouse is the perfect choice!
We couldn’t find the words to thank Yaser enough. I truly hope many more people get the chance to discover this wonderful house and meet him. It’s an experience you’ll never forget.
- Wing yu (10/5): - Dangy is super considerate. The guest house is on the other side of the island and He picked us up from the ferry terminal by his own boat. The guest house is cozy and the view is amazing from the balcony. He gave us not just a welcoming drink but also guided us to the public ferry. Next day morning he made us sandwiches and tea while we had some problems with our travel agency. So Dangy is very warm hearted and nice person. Would recommend to stay longer!
- Moses (10/5): Beautiful Nile and Comfort Room! - The boss of the hostel is very friendly and helpful. He helped us to book the tour to Abu Simbel, and also to Luxor with the visit of Kom Ombo and Edfu. The price is reasonable and boat was arranged to the pier. Room is impressive with Nubian decoration as shown in photo. The view from the terrace facing the River Nile is impressive. It is also near to the Aswan museum which is very impressive. The boss is very helpful that he provided two bottles rapid set adhesive for the sole separation on my shoes under heat. I need to say thank you for his help as my shoes keep on OK with my trip to the end. There was no electricity for a short time. The electric kattle is not working but replaced shortly.
- Stephanie (8/5): Lovely veranda, lovely quiet location. - The veranda and view are amazing and it is lovely and quiet. The room itself is clean and nice. The shower is good and hot.
- Janine (9/5): Nubian Homstay with best view
on the island - Incredibly nice "homestay" on a very remote Nubian island with private balcony. Best view on the island. We can only recommend this place and also try the home cooked Nubian breakfast and dinner. Breakfast is served on the private balcony. Ferry connection to Assuan is very close and works well. Private boat trips available. We absolutely enjoyed our stay and loved the amazing view and great hospitality.
- Hannah (7/5): If you prefer homestay then it’s okay. - The family is very welcoming. They took us from the port to their place.
The view from the balcony is pretty good.
The price is okay. It’s difficult to go back to the mainland especially if you have some baggages as it’s far from the public port. You need to take a private boat and it will cost you. Walking around is quite adventurous like maze.
Not easy access.
Internet is low.
You need to pay by cash.
- Jenna (10/5): Exceptional - This place is fantastic. The family is so friendly and welcoming. We loved our stay! The food is great too. We highly recommend staying there.
- Franco (10/5): A warm welcoming from a nubian family that seems to belong to ancient tradition and out of the time - Contemplating the Nile from your bed, the gentle breeze that whistle the reeds by sandy shores and the stone islands will reset you in a peaceful no needs dimension. Unreal place and people that you just want to hug and be grateful.
Unforgettable feelings of home The compromise of travelling sometimes is harsh if you need to leave too soon
- Leanid (10/5): Exceptional - Good place, clean rooms, perfect location and a very helpful host!
- Piotr (10/5): Exceptional - Great location: very close to town, but it feels like country-side. The house is placed just on the bank of the river and the room had a view over the Nile and the desert on the other side.
The hosts was extremely welcoming! We were picked-up by boat when we came to take the ferry and later deposed at the same place. They helped us arranging the necessary visits.
There was a good internet connection.
- Towyn (10/5): Exceptional - Beautiful apartment in a very peaceful and quiet area on the west bank of Elephantine Island with lovely views and surrounded by nature.
The accommodation was very clean, comfortable, and ideally located.
The host and his family were very welcoming and friendly. Without pressure and by our request they helped us with travel arrangements and trips out. We sailed on a Felucca and had a motor boat trip for nature and birdlife viewing with them.
We were really grateful for the conversations with the family about the island and its people
A very tasty breakfast was served on our balcony overlooking the river.
We enjoyed a very cultural experience, we could walk safely around the island and visit the many historical sites from the apartment.
We enjoyed a very magical experience staying here on the Island and can fully recommend it. We will return here again.
Thank you.
