Guest Reviews
- LEON (10/5): excelance - Valeu for money. Staff extremely helpfull and genoures. if i have to make a detour of 200km to sleep here i would N/A
- LEON (10/5): VERY NICE VALEU FOR MONEY PERFETO - EXCEPTIONAL PLACE TO STAY N/A
- Ryno (9/5): -
- Carin (10/5): Safari Game Camp - What a beautiful place. Luxury in nature! Phumlani was friendly and helpful and made us feel right at home. Everything was fine, but i would recommend that someone fix the toilet seat, it glides to the left when you sit🫣
- Truter (7/5): - Location and private settings Road noise, it was very cold in the tent, furniture on the patio was broken
- Stephanie (7/5): - Happy with the clean bedding and towels, facilities and setting and friendly staff. Noise level of trucks all through the night made it very difficult to sleep. Although stated as pet friendly, no fencing for pets, so had to keep our dog on a leash the entire time to ensure she didn't dissapear into the vlei.
- Brendon (9/5): Excellent getaway if you just need to get away from everything - The location and privacy were the key points, you are totally on your own, no traffic in or out for the 3 days that we were there. The accommodation is rustic but everything we needed, staff sent several messages over the weekend to make sure everything was in order and find out if we didn't need anything extra. We were there during a cold spell but there is a gas heater as well as an electric blanket. Nothing we didn't really like but would consider a single cooker and a pot and pan in the unit (PS: During the weekend we did actually get a Whatsapp asking if would maybe need those items)
- Jenny (10/5): -
- Allers (8/5): Far away from the mad rush of people and traffic - magical! - Nature all around. Beautiful and quiet. I cannot think of anything.
- Jacob Petrus (9/5): -
- JOANNE (10/5): Very peaceful with beautiful surroundings - Breakfast was not included - it was fully self-catering.
The cottage was rustic, but that was 100% of how it was advertised and what we expected
A normal car may battle the last stretch of road +- 1 km from the gate, a 4X4 vehicle will be better suited, expecially in the rain The only complaint I have is that the wi-fi did not connect, However, in a rustic cottage like that you will be able to go without wi-fi for a couple of days.
- Slowglen (10/5): Karoo Bliss & Stillness - No breakfast but we were just stopping over for 1 night. Perfect location, just off main road but far enough not to pick up road noise.. Secluded and all we needed to braai for the night. A little challenging figuring out the gas heating for shower BUT once adjusted just perfect.
- Luke (10/5): Beautiful!! - Everything it was so perfect and just cozy and the view is amazing! If you really need something there is a farm shop not too far if you have an emergency or anything, it is just so nice !!
- Kim (10/5): Stunning as always! - Love the new upgrades that were made, the wifi and fridge. It has beautiful views and stunning accommodation. And we loved the new addition of the chair and skull, and skin, it was such a nice touch to the room. Also mainly because we can always travel with our dogs and stay here and walk them on lead in such a stunning place. Nothing

- Leanie (7/5): A secluded and restful stay. - The location is beautiful and the views are amazing. Perfect for a stop over. Nice braai area as well. The furniture and interiors could use an update. The braai grid wasn’t very clean.
- Warrick (7/5): overall i loved the position and "tent" experience - lovely to wake up in the peaceful surroundings of nature. the patio chairs and table require some refurbisment . chairs broken and table needs a varnish . Checked in late after a long day driving . The pindrop location given to me was 10km off track ?
- Ewald (10/5): - Just Go
- Anette (9/5): Breath taking - The location was great. This was our last stop back home after our 3 week vacation, and it was the perfect way to end off our holiday.
- Gouws (6/5): We had a pleasant experience overall. The price is far too much per night. - We were never offered breakfast. Crudeness Roughness compared to the price we paid.
- Deirdre (9/5): Phumlani is such a great host - we stayed here more than once and he goes out of his way - Its remote and the view is stunning
- Daniël (10/5): -
- Richard (9/5): -
- Philip (6/5): Good lovation, quiet, unusual accommodation - Good location very quiet. Quaint accommodation Needs some tlc. Outside furniture very rickety. Need hot water in wash up area.
- Travis (9/5): - the challet/tent was really well appointed and in a peaceful location rather expensive as one person with very little on offer apart from a peaceful stay.
- ANNALIE (9/5): -
- Veronique (10/5): - They went far and beyond and entrusted us with their 4 x 4 vehicle to get to our accommodation.
- CHRISTINE (8/5): Definitely would be happy to stay again. As a stopover, it's great. - Location was perfect. Bed comfy. Hot shower- great. Lovely outside braai and firewood supplied was much appreciated. The surrounding bush and birds made for a peaceful stay. The verandah furniture was very uncomfortable, and an eyesore. As the first thing you see as to walk in, it was off-putting. Looking past it was essential to appreciate the unique features of the place. It also lacked single outside chairs to see the most glorious bush in front of you. The stone rock seats aren't ideal for a whole afternoon's stay.
- Charlene (3/5): location was good but was not clean so did not enjoyed it - the location was not cleaned or dusted
- Charmaine (6/5): -
- Clare (8/5): - Very cool stay , nice and secluded and private
The tent cabin has everything you need for a short stay and the staff were more than happy to help when needed. Great place if you are looking to disconnect from the busyness for some time but still has access to wifi and great streaming if you need it. Would just warn that the road to the tent house is not necessarily suitable for low ground clearance cars
- Colin (7/5): What i was looking for - Location to N1 and distance from Cape on route to JHB Place served it purpose for my stop over.
- Alexandra (6/5): Comfortable but road was bad - The setting The fan didn’t work
- Deirdre (9/5): Away from the buzz of the city - Phumlani met us at reception and guided us, he is such a gem - really a great asset to the place
The place is basic but has everything you need. So quiet and beautiful.
- Pip (10/5): Loved the stay.saw big sky and loved the wildlife - The remoteness Loved the property. The deck could have been completely boarded. If you had dropped anything it may have gone through the decking. Chairs a bit rickety on stoop
- Dawie Barnard (10/5): Very reasonable priced stay over with good breakfast - An extraordinary location - stone cottage facing the river. TV was old and not easy to tune to Netflix
- Pauli (10/5): -
- Martina (6/5): beautiful nature and atmosphere - N/A Chips for supper. We like the lamb chops to have a pure lamb taste, not dipped intoBeautiful naturre some sauces
- Phillip (8/5): -
- Bruce (9/5): -
- Ivonne (8/5): Solitude, views and touches of luxury. - This unit, Rock Cabin, is away from the main reception units area, over a hill, sitting on a small cliff. Wonderful views, solitude, no road noise. We overlooked a watercourse and across the farm. I enjoyed the special birds and the farm atmosphere.
The bedding and mattress was superb. Hot, strong shower, luxurious towels, new fridge and microwave. What a find! And at such reasonable rate. Will definitely be returning. The finishes of the cabin itself were a bit rough, as were the steps going down from the parking area to the unit, but if you want a sleek hotel room, pay triple and forego this wonderful break in nature.
- fourie (6/5): - The isolation from every thing The road for normal car
- Adel (10/5): -
- Ruth (8/5): - Super location with lovely views Difficult to get to with saloon car. You need a 4 x 4 vehicle.
Not suitable for elderly or handicapped persons due to rugged terrain.
- Meyer (10/5): Close to the road for easy access but just over the hill so the sounds of the trucks don’t bother you. Very friendly gre - Close to the road for easy access but just over the hill so the sounds of the trucks don’t bother you. Very friendly greeting staff.

- Deidre (10/5): Really beautiful and affordable accommodation. Remote rocky mountain vibe. - Beautiful view
Very clean
Staff really excellent
Beautiful decor
Very close to highway- great distance from jhb to cape town.
Padstal was great to have option to braai or eat there. Very rocky terrain to get to the room.
Mice running around the house in the night so very little sleep.
- Jenny (10/5): - The spot that it was ,was amazing and very comfortable, love it very much was a exceptional experience 🤩
And the place/cabin had everything a person needs for a short or long stay . There was nothing to dislike about the place
- Rowan (10/5): -
- G (7/5): Good - On the N1 so very convenient Only small issue was the tent flaps were flapping all night in the wind, its not tied back so woke us up ever 15 minutes - bit of an issue
- Craig (9/5): Superb -
- Jacqulene (8/5): Very good -
- Ferdi (9/5): Great little place, but too short a visit! - Easy check-in and qauint facilities. Comfort and ease of access. a Bit bigger shower...but thats just me...
- Ulrike (9/5): Beautiful peaceful stay - Amazing peaceful location, stars are to die for at night, even in the cold they provide heating and ample blankets so you can stay cozy. Perfect little place for overnight stay or weekend getaway. Food wasn't the best but you can bring your own so not the end of the world. If you have a small car it can be difficult since the roads are rocky and you need to do a hill or two to reach it but we managed with our i10 so it can be done
- Gay (8/5): A most imaginative and secluded getaway cottage in the middle of the great Karoo. - The setting and rock built cabin is attractive and very unusual and charming, having everything we might need. I was so sorry we arrived too late for me to take a long walk in the sunset, but it got dark. It was very charming and well appointed and the indoor fireplace and outdoor area would be exquisite if we had had more time. Firewood was provided all ready for us but alas we were too tired. We had driven far and were exhausted so simply warmed up our food, had a hot shower, and fell into bed -warmed up by the electric blanket. Thank heavens we arrived before nightfall because the road is very rough to the cottage, particularly in our small Suzuki. Likewise the access to the front door is rustic to say the least, but that is part of the place's charm. The receptionist warned us that our July early morning might be so cold as to freeze the water. When we woke before dawn for our early start it was 1 degree C. Then I lit the gas fire to warm the freezing cottage before getting out of our warm bed. All good, and would have worked perfectly; except after 30 mins the gas ran out. We had only lit a single panel. So from 6.45am until we left at 7.35am we had no heating whatsoever. That was very unfortunate. Otherwise what an unusual and enchanting getaway spot, with almost everything you might need. However a drying rack for dishes would also help!
- Bulelani (10/5): I've enjoyed myself with the friendly carrying staff and the food was exceptional 👌 - Its more private and peaceful something that I want to clear my head. Road works is needed to accommodate our flat cars
- Nortje (8/5): Very good -
- Tammy (10/5): Exceptional -
- Keagan (4/5): Beautiful place , would probably be perfect for summer. Unless they made sure there is gas for heater and sorted out ele - The view and surroundings were beautiful.
The staff was really friendly. There was no gas in the heater. The solar power ran out quickly.
It was very cold.
Very isolated
- Pieter (9/5): Great glamping experience with a very friendly and welcoming Phumlani. - The property was perfect for overnight stay. Kitted with heated blanket, gas heater and hot water. The kitchenette was well kitted with coffee, tea, mini fridge. The property was neat and an amazing glamping experience. Although the road was offroad and requires the vehicle to be high off the ground it adds to the experience.
Phumlani was exceptional and welcoming with his service too!
- Mzunzima (6/5): Pleasant -
- Ivandi (10/5): Exceptional - We had an awesome stay over. The fireplace inside was is a big win. Thank you to Pumlani and Chante.. Such an asset to the place
- Danelle (10/5): Lovely stay over - pity we had to leave early the next morning. Very nice & Cosy - The unique interior & personal touch to welcome sign, electric blanket & coffee station. None
- Inus (10/5): Exceptional - Great secluded spot, quick little overnight getaway You can hear the N1, so just keep that in mind.
- Wilma (8/5): Awesome little place. Delicious food prepared for us. Malva Poeding the best we ever had -
- Pieter (10/5): Exceptional -
- Sarel (10/5): Exceptional - The rock cabin is beautiful and so relaxing, the sunset over the Karoo was stunning!
- Manfred (6/5): Pleasant - Peaceful surroundings and rustic accommodation. Access road requires improvement. Insect repellant needs to be provided.
- Malan (8/5): Very good -
- Jean-heinrich (10/5): Exceptional - The quite secluded space. It was just what I needed. I don't like city spaces as much. This gave me a country feel which I loved.
- Lauren (9/5): Superb -
- Karin (10/5): Exceptional -
- Anine (10/5): 1000% would recommend for nature lovers😌 - Our doggies loved having all the space, and the stars were absolutely breathtaking at night.
- Riekie (6/5): Rustic stay - Quaint chalet in lovely setting. Friendly staff. The toilet was not clean upon arrival.
Lacking basic things eg sponge/cloth to wash dishes & braai tong.
Very little milk/tea bags etc provided. We had to buy our own milk.
- Heather (2/5): Very disappointing and basic, host not honest and not as described by host - Confirmation number 4395.533.898

I would like to lay a complaint. I booked at Rock Cabin for a one night stay en route back to Joburg from Cape Town on Friday 10th Jan. I noticed late in the evening of the 9th that the booking had been changed to a Safari tented house. I contacted the host and said that we were not happy to stay in a tented house and with two small Yorkies. She offered to try and contact the people who were now booked at Rock Cabin in order to try and swap our bookings. She then assured me that the facilities were exactly the same, self catering , and that it was safe for two Yorkies, secure parking and so we left the booking as is. Upon arrival at 17h00 in temperatures of 39 degrees Celsius, we were shocked at the state of the tented house. The tent itself and screens were old and full of holes. One couldn’t open some of the flaps to improve the ventilation. The self catering facilities were a microwave the size of a shoebox and the fridge not much bigger. The deck table and chairs were rickety. The duvet cover was full of stains. The house is perched on the edge of a ravine, with large gaps between the decking planks, completely unsafe for two small Yorkies. The unit was not as described by the owner, it was not habitable in those temperatures with very little ventilation, extremely basic, not self catering , secure parking was the car been left completely in the open and was like camping, which is not what I booked and not as described . At a late hour , already exhausted from the day’s travelling, and with some panic I had to try book alternative accommodation . I notified the owner that we were not happy and had left and the only response I received was a thumbs up. It is only fair that I receive a full refund.
- Jb (9/5): Superb -
- Frederick (6/5): Pleasant -
- Norman (8/5): Very good -
- Riaan (10/5): Would definitely stay here again. - The location and setting was perfect, Very quiet and peaceful.

- Victor (10/5): Exceptional - The location of the stine cottage absolutly stunning Nothing
- Ronan (9/5): Superb -
- Gert (10/5): Exceptional -
- Mike (5/5): Passable -
- Conrad (3/5): Need to step up this unit for the asking price ...... - Location The final detail and what you get for the price vs other bookings
- Bertie (1/5): Not happy! - The cottage is not very well maintained. Most of the furniture is made from pallet planks and not in a very good or clean condition. We felt very unsafe and decided not to stay the night and just move on. There was no response from the staff when we raised our concerns so i think they are use to customers paying and not staying.
I also feel that their photos are a bit misleading. Hopefully Safari Game Camp can get their facilities upgraded and have happy customers again.
- Heinrich (8/5): Very good -
- Nicole (7/5): Good -
- Naomi (10/5): Exceptional -
- Gavin (2/5): Very poor -
- Christine (10/5): Great Stay - Excellent position just off the N1. Everything you need for a break in your trip. Beautiful aspect, very private. Beautiful Karoo sky. Perhaps just a single burner stove needs to be available.
- Jason (10/5): Exceptional -
