Guest Reviews
- Keith (5/5): - Location Being sent the codes to get in the building before hand
- Tia (10/5): -
- George (10/5): - Thr nath room
And the whole lay out The mees behind the bed
- Aimee (1/5): -
- Katana (1/5): Avoid - Tampons being available for female guests, comfy bed No usable batteries in the TV remote, kettle and microwave broken (unusable). No staff around to talk too, pub closed everyday but Saturday and sunday... dirty even rubbish behind the draws
- Tia (10/5): - Once again had a really great stay. Really lovely atmosphere, everyone is so helpful and friendly and the room was really comfortable and clean. Would really recommend ☺️
- ronald (2/5): - I didnt Music til 1.30 am and to enhance my happiness 2am saturday
- Tomi (5/5): - The room is cold. Heating system poor.
- Andrea (1/5): I would rather stay at Norman Bates motel…. - Do yourself a favour and look elsewhere. This is a genuine and honest review. This has to be one of the worst rooms that I have ever stayed in. First, you have a series of gate codes which starts at the side of the pub, which is dark and dingy. Next you have to go up the metal fire exit steps, which are slippery when wet. Do not even consider booking if you have mobility issues or small children. Then you have a different code for the first door, when you get through that there is yet another code for the room door. Once you have managed all of that, you realise you have no toilet or shower in your room and have to wander around in the shared hallway in the middle of the night if you need the toilet…. However this is not even the worst of it…. What the worst part of this very basic, mishmash of furniture room is the horrendously loud, thumping music (DJ’s and decks on the weekend) - I kid you not, it is horrendous and you will not even be able to hear the television in the room. - some reviews mention ear plugs- well I wasn’t even offered them. It is really bad and if you have any sense, you will avoid this accommodation like the plague. I would not return here even if it was free.
- Nathan (10/5): - Everything Nothing the staff ,the premises the cost it's all great
- Nathan (10/5): - Spacious ,great facilities, great staff all in all great value to for money too Loved everything
- Nohange (7/5): -
- Nathan (8/5): -
- Nathan (7/5): - Spaces rooms easy access to local shops and pubs Internet access was not the best
- Angi (4/5): -
- Baruch (9/5): Peaceful, quiet, calm and harmonious - For a room that size the price was good, very good facilities and have to say it was better then many hotels which are much more pricey All was good except maybe some wait and pepper would have been a good addition
- Erin (10/5): Fantastic, stayed for a gig at the castle, would look to return if visiting the area again - Easy to find, great communication from the staff (didn’t actually meet anyone in person!), lovely room with comfortable beds and the shared toilet/bathroom facilities were spotless The hotel can’t manage who walks outside in the early hours so late night revellers do disrupt your sleep but the hotel actually provided foam earplugs so they are well aware but cannot manage the general public outside.
- Darius (10/5): -
- Nick (1/5): I would never stay at this property again. - The room was clean The room was not easy accessible as you had to climb the steel fire escape staircase the key was located in a coded wall Safe numbers were difficult to see in the dark.
Rooms located directly above the bar which was very noisy Friday Saturday night until 3.30am early hours of Sunday morning not only loud music but a lot of shouting and arguing in the street outside when it was kicking out time
!! managed to fall asleep approximately 4 am then we were woken up by the fire alarm continuously going off 6.30am so we decided to leave the property as soon as possible.
I wouldn’t recommend this property to anyone unless they were partying in the bar below.
The bathroom was separate from the room which was accessed by a hallway which was covered by CCTV cameras and made you feel uneasy whilst walking to the bathroom in the middle of the night.
The property advertises that it has car parking there was not any parking.
- Viorel (9/5): Ok - Totul OK 👌 Zgomotul
Au cântat țipat și dansat până la 3 dimineața la pub 🥺
- Johan (5/5): - Position very easy to get to central to town bus station shops every thing is walking distance from the hotel. I never saw any one Could not connect to the WIF or Sky TV
I was given the code but could not get it to work .
- Kenneth (10/5): -
- Mark (7/5): -
- Smith (6/5): -
- Michael (9/5): - Giant size room. Great little kitchenette. We had a bit of hassle with all the codes to get in, mostly of our own making. Instructions could have been a bit clearer, and could have been easier to find in the Bookings messaging.
- Matthew (9/5): - Very good for price choice of beds lol
- Chris (8/5): Great to stop over for the races will do again - Very nice Nothing
- Kipperjam (9/5): - Friendly helpful staff Nothing
- Taylor (10/5): We loved our stay everything about it the staff were amazing and helpful liz came out quite late one night to put our he - The room was the perfect size clean and beds were comfy the music wasn’t bad music was easily danceable too and with the tv on you couldn’t really hear it Family room could’ve done with a mini fridge for baby food pouches and milk and medication but it didn’t make me not like the property anymore
- Mark Christansen (8/5): -
- Andrew (7/5): Great location and good value - Good value
Great location
Neat and tidy NA
- Angela (8/5): - Great location. Teddy bear bedding was too hot for summer
- Stephen (7/5): - Noise from bar below
- Pamela (3/5): - Clean room nice size Couldn't get in when I arrived the entrance is around the back and up fire escape steps. Hadn't been sent the door codes to get in. The noise at night is unbearable so loud the music it sounded like it was in our room and the ear plugs couldn't drown it out
- Stephan (6/5): Ok fair - Comfortable Get woke up at 2.43am by some woman looking for her husband trying a code on my door and knocking constantly
- Hendrica (5/5): - The beds were comfortable and the room spacious. The location in the centre is great, but the disco underneath ruins it. Everything was very clean! The noice was even worse than I expected... Music we don't mind much but the drunk shouting in the street is a little scary. Furthermore there were no normal bedsheets/ duvet covers, but a sort of synthetic fluffy teddy sheets. Not my taste. There is a mini kitchen but no fridge unfortunately.
- Vikki (8/5): Good standard for the price you pay for your stay - Everything was clean and modern. Coffee and tea available. Iron/ iron board and kettle in the room. Bed was comfortable and clean. It is in top of a pub- and can be nosy. It didn’t bother us too much.
- Jen (8/5): Pretty good - Staff were friendly and welcoming. Rooms were comfortable. Only downside of this is that it's above the pub itself, although it's a separate business and the noise travels up although they did provide earplugs to help with this.
- Jeff (8/5): - Nice room, clean and comfortable. Good location for an event I was going to in the town. Easy enough to find, a bit of trouble getting in, but was quickly sorted. No major issues during my stay. With it being above a pub, it was a bit loud with noise from downstairs/outside, but ear plugs were provided!! It was a bit strange having a kitchen sink in the room, but I suppose the kitchenette would appeal to someone wanting to heat up a quick meal in the room. Could have done with some shower gel/shampoo being provided.
- Marcin (10/5): -
- Keith (8/5): - The room was spotless. Staff were so friendly on arrival. Great location in the heart of the town. The only thing I'd say is the kitchen facilities were good with a microwave a toaster. But could do with more kitchen equipment and small fridge to keep milk and cold drinks in.
- Harminder (7/5): - The place was clean, tidy and comfortable. The owner was however painting , and we got to meet her. She was helpful and polite. We were supplied with ear plugs because of the pub below. Checking in was not fully explained. Didn't receive a message until the day after about the codes to the doors and where the rooms actually were. When we got to the pub a friend of mine was thankfully also staying in the next room and explained how it all worked.
The pub is nothing to do with the bookings and the barmaid explained that everyone asks so this needs to be clearly stated.
The accommodation was up two flights of stairs and the main door opens outwards not inwards. Could be hazardous in bad weather.
The bathroom was lovely but due to such a big bath , no room to actually stand and dry yourself. Plus the toilet and bath were in another area through a set of doors which makes it difficult in the middle of the night.
The pub below us noisy and loud. Not the landlady's fault but just so people are aware.
- Urch (9/5): - Well laid out and spotless Telly a bit small for how far away it was placed
- Sami (6/5): - Location was great. Room and bathroom was renovated. There was 3 different lock codes and 3 different locks working differently.
Dont leave your phone to room with lock codes, when you go to bathroom, or you are in trounle.
Otherwise nice place to stay.
- Jess (8/5): - The fan The fight outside
- Jessica (8/5): Good accommodation but too warm - Spacious clean room, clean toilet and bathroom. Plenty of towels provided.
We booked with friends and had the top floor to ourselves so the shared bathroom facilities were no issue for us as we didn't have to share with strangers!
Were provided earplugs for our stay.
Security very good so we felt safe.
More than enough toilet roll provided in toilet and hand wash provided.
Powerful shower.
Iron and ironing board provided as were tea and coffee making facilities. Small kitchen that had mugs cutlery and plates! Only one thing let us down, Unfortuntely we stayed on a very hot day/night and we didn't have a fan in the room - our friends booked the room next door and had a fan provided! It was way too warm inside the room, couldn't have the window open when it got late due to noise from pub downstairs (not the fault of hotel itself i know it cant be helped and we were provided earplugs, unfortunately it was just too loud with people fighting outside at midnight) we were boiling and didn't sleep well at all due to it, just had to keep having cold showers as we were sweating like pigs. There was also a strong constant stench of weed coming into the room during the night unsure of where it was coming from and the heat just baked it. (Again, not the owners fault and couldn't be helped)
We did book it just for a base for castell roc however I dont think it was worth almost £100 for a night considering how poorly we slept with no type of air con/fan
- John (4/5): Not the worst place but try to find somewhere better if possible - Ok location near center of chepstow. Room smelled funny. Window was permanently open allowing all street noise into the room. I was unable to get the chin out to close it. Bed sheets were from the 80’s. Room is above a bar and was very loud on a Thursday night.
- Lawrence (6/5): Comfy very clean but very hot very central - It was clean very hot couldn’t open windows, fan blowing hot air Very hot
- Lichottka (10/5): The kings head Airbnb - I like everything of it and to top it up under the Airbnb is a really good pub, the kings head and good location in town. Love to stay here again. Good Airbnb for your money. 😇
- Lee (7/5): nice rooms, very clean room and bathroom - spotless but was a shared bathroom with the other room, nice and big rooms shared bathroom
- Cemil (8/5): Very good -
- Matthew (10/5): Exceptional -
- Sharon (10/5): Exceptional -
- Eva (6/5): Great location for one nights stay - Clean place, warm shower, comfy bed, and they provided earplugs - which tells you everything you need to know about the noise levels. Above a pub, but at least they’re self-aware. Helpful owner, full marks for effort. It’s above a pub, so noisy until 3:30am – the earplugs gift on arrival were the warning.
We weren’t sure if the bathroom was shared or not. It wasn’t en suite; it’s down the hall but you can lock it. To get back in without juggling a torch and code, they give you a wedge to keep the bedroom door open. The problem was, we didn’t know if other rooms were occupied – meaning while one of us was in the bathroom and the other asleep, anyone could stroll straight into our room.
Plus, no code arrived by email or on the website when we got there, and we had no idea which door to try or what the code was – had to call for help. Also, there was no free WiFi available or if there was we weren't told or given a code .
Constructive tips: a cheap battery-powered light above the door to see the keypad in the dark, or some hall lighting, and clear info on whether other rooms are occupied or if the bathroom is shared – so you know if it’s safe to wedge the door open. Also, the open window is stiff to close, so unless you’re with someone strong, you’ll likely have to leave it open – which just adds to the noise.
And since it’s got a kitchen, a mini fridge would’ve been a nice touch.
That said, the door wedge, earplugs and fan show they’re listening.
- Samantha (8/5): Great location & value for money - Great value for money. Good location
- Rebecca (6/5): Noisey!!! - It was clean, not onsite so a little disappointing Pub downstairs played LOUD music till midnight. No way of going to sleep and when a Tuesday certainly not expected or welcome!!
- Clive (6/5): Pleasant -
- Shohab (1/5): Bad - The place was close to my work My room was on the top of a pub
The loud music doesn’t let me sleep all night. Music was on till 2:30 at night.
Very disappointed I’ve been booking through Booking.com since many years but this was my worst ever experience. I couldn’t get to sleep for two nights.
If somebody is coming to stay overnight, you should let them know that you can’t go to sleep at night till 3 o’clock
- Jessica (2/5): Wouldn’t recommend. - Music was played so loudly from the pub until 0200. The venue must warn potential guests of this beforehand (I wouldn’t have booked if I’d known about the music).
Poor quality shared bathroom.
Would not recommend.
- Steve (7/5): Adequate - Very spacious No curtains and the room was light by 5am
- Yvette (6/5): Pleasant -
- Dave (8/5): Very good - Self check-in (keypads and lock boxes)
Good communication with hotel through booking.com Naturally there's a pub underneath the hotel, so it goes without saying there's going to be pub noise. Not a complaint at all as this was entirely expected.
- Simon (1/5): Even though the landlady warned of noise, you cannot forgive the loudness of outside & slamming door - large comfortable room Poor toilet facilities. Other residents were drug addicts and the outside noise till 3 in morning. No double glazing or any effort made to reduce noise. Fire and bedroom doors slam really loud, so no chance of sleeping if someone is coming in after 3.
- Gillian (1/5): 😡 - This was the worst night away I have ever had, live music and people shouting outside our room till gone 3 in the morning did not get any sleep as we were worried about someone might break in, they did not tell us when we booked that there would be music playing till early hours, of the morning the room smelt really bad would never stay here again and I advise this place should be taken of booking..com Nothing
- Rebecca (4/5): EXTREMELY LOUD pub below . Could not sleep. - Good location, price and facilities. Happy with the room and comfortable bed. It’s a shame the noise of the pub let it down. Could not sleep one wink because the pub downstairs were having a party until 4/5 in the morning and it was extremely loud like they were in the same room .
- Mark (5/5): Nice room but the music downstairs is a problem - Location Terrible smell from drains in the bathroom. Loud music until 1am
- Ryan (10/5): Exceptional -
- Carl (1/5): Don't stay here if you want to get some sleep - The room was large and clean There was a drum and bass party on in the outside garden of the pub that went on past midnight. I got absolutely no sleep due to the noise and complained to the venue who said the bar is nothing to do with them
- Rosamund (8/5): Perfectly fine for our short stay - Great location for us; near enough to the station, the venue for our event, & a supermarket, & a really nice café as it's right in the centre.
Really big rooms - we had the 2 2nd floor ones, comfy beds, more than enough pillows & good sized towels. The shared bathroom &, handily separate, loo were well fitted (fast fill flush - essential when sharing).
Plenty of drawers & enough hanging space & hangers.
Enough crockery & utensils. Microwave oven & kettle in the kitchenettes.
Secure key safe, & entry codes for the bedrooms. Large TVs. Nice sofa in 1 room.
Shop across the road, although we stocked up in M&S so didn't use it.
We'd stay again. No mirror in the bathroom, or loo where the only basin was. I think my male friends shaved using the kitchenette sink & moving the stand mirror over. No small fridge in the rooms, despite there being clearly room designated for one in each; but they can make noises in the night so perhaps there used to be there but people moaned. Ive no experience of a small table top fridge but they're cheaper to buy & would be a nice addition. A minor inconvenience for us as we were out most of the time, but, as it was warm weather, having to store our milk & juice for breakfast (& cans of fizzy pop for late night telly watching - preferable to hot cups of tea) in a sinkful of cold water wasn't ideal.
The kitchenette plumbing connected the rooms, so when 1 sink was emptied it made a ghastly noise in the pipes, & in the next door room's sink.
Could do with a warning about the step to get back out on the fire escape, as it's a bit lower than expected.
No hooks on any doors. I draped my long coat & over the standing electric fan (didn't plug it in, obvs). I notice there's rarely door hooks in holiday accommodation - I presume that it's because people leave items on them, or idiots pull them off & damage the door.
There was the nice sofa in the larger room, but no comfy seating in the other, so we watched TV sitting on the beds, when our friend wanted yo go to bed early in the room which had the sofa. There could be room made for a small 2 seater one, or at least a nice arm chair, we thought.
The noise from the pub was rather noisy, but to be fair this was completely as expected - one of our group wore ear-plugs, another is a bit deaf, & two of us chatted late anyway until they'd all gone, & we didn't have children with us, so it wasn't a huge issue at all.
Despite our (hopefully seen as constructive) criticism, we'd stay at the King's Head again. Good value for what we required.
- Kevin (1/5): Very very disappointed. - We stayed on a Saturday night and there was booming music and the room shook until 2a.m. It was impossible to sleep until then. If we had known this was the deal we would have booked somewhere else
- Rebecca (2/5): disappointing and lack of sleep - room lovely music till 3am on a tuesday
followed by people awake at 6 am banging doors and talking like they are in the room with you !!!
- Clare (1/5): Bad - Terrible over pub with music playing until 2.30am. No sleep till then !!
- John (6/5): Pleasant -
- Ingrid (6/5): Pleasant - Clean and comfortable Cold and noisy
- Clive (9/5): Good value for money - Rooms were nice and clean beds we had 2 great stop off.peiole were very nice too N/a
- Rob (10/5): Exceptional -
- John (1/5): Bad - Newly decorated, comfortable bed large new bathroom Unbearably noisy until gone 2 in the morning, at least on the Friday and Saturday nights. We only stayed for those two nights even though we booked Sunday as well. We needed a good night's sleep!
My wife used the separate toilet when we arrived and couldn't get out because the handles had been fitted without the square rod which moves the catch!
The owner had to break in to release her!
Non of the windows could be opened so was hot and stuffy.
The list could go on.
I do not advise a stay
- Paulo (2/5): Very poor -
- Lorna (5/5): Passable - Room was clean and tidy, didn't realise it was a communal bathroom which felt uncomfortable, location great though Extremely noisy, loud karaoke type music playing until at least midnight, I knew it was above a pub but wasn't expecting the volume on a week day night. There was also a door in my building leading to a room playing more loud music. Just wasn't a peaceful stay sadly.
- Paul (1/5): Room was clean and staff were lovely. However if you like sleep then wouldn’t recommend as the pub plays music well into - I appreciate that staying above a pub that there would be noise. However the music was blasting out until the early hours of the morning. Once all the customers finally left we could hear the the female bar staff shouting at each other whilst clearing up. This went on until well past 3am.
- Rebecca (8/5): Very good - Great that it had a microwave and basic kitchen essentials available, 2 double beds and a sofa for comfort. It is up 2 flights of fire escape stairs which with a small baby and pram were not easy to navigate as a solo parent
- George (8/5): Huge room - Huge room
Great location Wifi not working
- Khalig (7/5): Good -
- Cheryl (5/5): fire alarm antics - I booked this for my son and girlfriend for her birthday as they were having drinks with friends in bar downstairs, whilst I babysat in their house, they said was very spacious and comfortable the fire alarm was going off at 10am and when we spoke to the owner, he said there was nothing he could do about it as he wasn't around, not very helpful whatsoever, spoke with someone else and they said it goes off regularly for hours at a time.....definitely no no
- Vikki (4/5): Disappointed - Good location in Chepstow and reasonable parking close by. Struggled to get in touch with the property. Dishes in room were dirty and not enough for the amount of people staying. Shared bathroom at the entrance to the property which is way too small for a normal adult to comfortably fit. Pub downstairs very noisy till 2am.
- Lee (10/5): Exceptional -
- Colin (8/5): Good - Na Closer to town n where I was going
- Walters (8/5): Very good -
- Candice (10/5): Exceptional -
- Grace (9/5): Clean, cheap and spacious room for the night - Easy access
And spacious The lamp on the side of the bed didn’t work
- Pam (7/5): A convenient place to stay overnight and Wetherspoons was not far for breakfast! - Large room, well maintained. Comfortable. A hairdryer would have been useful. Access difficult for older or less mobile people - 2 flights of external stairs. Noise from pub below (Saturday evening) went on well past 1am and clientele were noisy departing.
- Papa (10/5): Exceptional -
- Debbie (9/5): Superb -
- Andrew (7/5): Very average - Location No communication within the booking
- Karen (10/5): Exceptional - Great location.
Ease of check in.
Comfortable bed.
Kitchenette inc microwave.
- Craig (1/5): Bad - I had the kings head booked for 8 months for a gig in chepstow, but they cancelled it the day before they said there was a leak in the room,so I'm not happy at all. I didn't like the way they cancelled one ,it was cancelled and that was it ,they didn't try to get me a room somewhere else disgusting.
- Nicholson (9/5): 8 out of 10 - The location was excellent, beds were lovely and clean and ever so comfortable. There was nothing to dislike, no faults at all.
The only thing that didn't work is the bedside lamp.
- Ganglani (7/5): Good value good room - The room or like the bed is amazing better than some 5* hotels I’ve stayed at in Hong Kong it’s also got two big beds a sink microwave and kettle The shared bathroom cause the room next door had some loud people and when staying for work you’d ideally want less noise and also having your own bathroom so you don’t have to wait for people but for the price it was very good value definitely recommend if you are on holiday or need a place for 1/2 nights
- Vincent (3/5): Terrible access as no codes and no way of contacting or speaking to anyone from booking or owners just lucky someone gav - Clean tidy and good location Couldn’t gain access to the property as I wasn’t sent any codes for locks and tried contacting booking.com but still have had no reply
Lucking managed to contact the owner who sent me lock code details
Finally got into property 11pm
No great at all
Very unhappy
- John (8/5): Very good - It was very tidy and modern and clean. Shared bathroom. Quite difficult to navigate to get to.
