Guest Reviews
- doug (7/5): ok place. only one set of towels, so keep 'em clean - quaint. reasonable cost. unique sheets didnt smell clean
- kim (10/5): - Great location, spacious and bright with lots of windows (unit#7). If u have heavy luggage, warning that there are stairs.
- Todd (10/5): Great place to stay in Mendocino on a budget - Lovely room with good price Was hard to find room in dark. Their map is not well thought out.
- Deborah (10/5): Beautiful, great art setting, comfortable mattresses. - It’s a spacious apartment with wonderful views. The location is close to restaurants and nature walks. The art center is cool! Maybe there could have been more bowls, but we ate out. If we ate in, more bowls would be needed.
- Chris (8/5): - Love the artsy vibe and sculptures on the grounds. Everything was great except the mattress. Shared with my wife and we both rolled to the middle. Time to replace the mattress in unit 1.
- vicki (9/5): Spacious, studio apartment right in the town of Mendocino, and near the ocean. - We were a group of three and had the Queen studio. It was spacious and clean, and the check in instructions were easy to follow. The location is great, just in the town of Mendocino, easy to park, and near the ocean. It has an artsy, funky vibe. I liked that it had a comfy sofa and chairs for sitting and lots of windows with views of the artist’s garden and pretty trees. The small kitchen had a microwave and a toaster, as well as a stove and fridge.
Our bed was comfortable and they provided us some extra pillows.
All in all, we had a very nice stay and it was budget priced for Mendocino. I would stay there again. Though the sofa was comfy for sitting on as a sofa, it was quite awful for sleeping on as a pullout bed. The mattress was very thin, lumpy and very uncomfortable. The kitchen was pretty well stocked with utensils and cookware, but it was odd that they had 14 plates, but only two water glasses and two coffee cups for our group of three adults. I contacted the hosts and they were able to find us one more coffee cup.
- Kirsys (10/5): - Love the price and location. Also the property is so cute and pretty.

- Meital (9/5): Exactly what you need when spending most of your time exploring but still want gorgeous views - Apartment 6 had an exceptional view of the ocean.
- Gerardo (4/5): I would not go back to it. I think for slightly higher price one can find better options. - The location is very good It looks run down (unit #3), the fridge kept making strange noises and I could barely fit in the tiny shower amongst a few other not so good things.
- Ruth (8/5): It was quiet with a view of the arts centre garden and an easy walk to the high street and ocean - It was good value and nice to support the art centre There was nothing to dislike
- Catherine (8/5): - Great location, very spacious living area, easy walk to both the Headlands and the restaurants and shops in town.
- Kathryn (4/5): Wouldn’t stay there again. - No breakfast Could have been cleaner. Difficult to plug in coffee maker. Too few plugs. Drain in kitchenette was very slow. No tissue in unit only very cheap toilet paper. Needs paint and updating. Location was great.
- Theresa (7/5): -
- Michael (9/5): -
- Carrey (9/5): Beautiful experience, and the APT was spacious and quiet at night. - The location is beautiful, and walking distance to the downtown area and the coastline. The shower room is quite small. I don't recommend anyone over 200 lbs.
- Maureen (8/5): -
- Webster (9/5): -
- Karen (2/5): Great potential, tremendous disappointment. - I wanted to give it a higher rating because I like the Art Center and am looking for a place to stay since I come up the coast to Mendo and Ft Bragg once a month. The wall heater in Room 7 wasn't functional and even though there was a space heater in the closet it wasn't powerful enough to heat the space. We communicated this after our first night and a second heater was provided. It still didn't heat the room adequately. We were freezing both nights and couldn't wait to get up and out of the room. Sad, since we wanted to linger and enjoy the space early and late in the day.
I would NOT stay here during the winter -- lovely windows, but way too drafty and cold.
- Mark (8/5): Bargain in an area in need of value hotels, - Good value the room was adequate great location Room could use update small shower
- Rodrigo (10/5): I dream of coming back! - Location excepcional
Great value
- Michelfelder (8/5): Very convenient! - Location and very quiet We liked it very much.
- Lisa (10/5): Beautiful big studio in Mendo - Beautiful big studio, great location, quiet, great big windows, right in the middle of the art center. Short walk to Lansing ot Main Streets, the main drags in town. The pictures was totally don't do the studio justice.
It gets REALLY cold up in Mendo and in the studio, which only has a stand alone heater. Plan on the room getting up to about 65 degrees when it's 50s-60s outside. Basically heater takes the chill off. It's still an amazing place to stay, the studio itself and being in the Mendo Art Center. Could be better appointed with bigger mugs for coffee. It gets REALLY cold so bring layers and sweaters and some slippers.
- Qiaohong (9/5): I would stay there again the next time I visit that city. - The pricing is affordable. The staff are very friendly and welcoming. Comfortable living is a surprise. The property has everything we need during our travel. N/A
- Neve (1/5): - Noone available to help. Called to cancel one night, spoke with person who said she would take care of cancelation. She said she understood how difficult the booking site was to operate these things. The person I called, she said was a personal cell phone, listed for contact info? Strange, felt unprofessional and hense, she did not remove one night stay, as promised, and shows I was billed 2 nights still.
- Noukai (8/5): -
- Trina (8/5): - Location, charm. Appreciate that it’s in an artist community Front porch light was out that was facing door and stairs leading to door. Thankfully I had my flashlight from my phone otherwise I wouldn’t have been able to see the keypad on door at night.
There seems to be termites because we saw a little mound of dust in kitchen near entry way of which we intentionally avoided. I hope they’re able to fix that because it’s such a great property.
- Anne (7/5): - The mattresses and towels were good. The kitchenette was helpful. The location was great. We loved going to a matinee play at the community theater next door. Luckily, the space heater was adequate after figuring out how to keep it working through the night. The extra blankets were necessary. The room was overpriced at $200 per night. About half that would have been more appropriate. I thought some kind of art experience might have been available to guests if interested.
- Nancy (10/5): Nice environment - Convenient location and had everything we needed
- roger (4/5): -
- Martina Sofia (10/5): -
- peterg99 (8/5): -
- Tedd (10/5): Great View apartment on quiet street in Mendocino! - The space and view were incredible. Location was ideal. Both beds very comfortable. Could use a few more small drinking glasses. That’s about it.
- Matthew (9/5): -
- joyce (6/5): Watch out, the pictures are not what you get - Great location. The pictures I saw when I booked it were not what it looked like at all. I felt deceived. I upgraded to an ocean view, couldn’t see the ocean at all.🙁
- Isabelle (8/5): - Great location
- Paul (6/5): Decent option on the edge of town - Although the room appeared unused the morning we checked in, they wouldn't give us the door code until exactly 3 pm. We had no vehicle and so had to improvise to store luggage (since there is no office or anyone responsible at the facility).
- Tucker (8/5): Good value for the area, very cozy studio especially at night. - The location was convenient, mostly enough parking, quiet neighbors. The studio was very cozy with the warm lighting by the beds. The kitchenette was useful. The property is quite close to the ocean and all of downtown. The floors were not cleaned well they left our socks brown. So mopping better and more thoroughly should be done. there was some mold on the window sills and in the shower but I assume that’s common in fort Bragg with all the moisture. No tv.
- JAM (6/5): - Easy access to town
Parking access close
Clean, quiet Drab, dated interior,/exteriors
Bathroom miniscule
- Nancy (7/5): I liked the size and the location - I loved the art in the garden area
Flowers were wonderful
Very quiet
Stairs up are not to code No water glasses
Dishes were minimal as was silverware
Lots of wine glasses but no water glasses except very small
Couch needs an update sinks way too much
- Jose (7/5): Quiet and close to trails at the ocean. - There are several restaurant choices near the area, with good foods. The place is spacious. The place is a bit run down. It feels like a college dorm.
- Daniella (10/5): Exceptional -
- Phyllis (10/5): Exceptional -
- Emily (9/5): Phenomenal place to stay. Would return in a heartbeat. - The property was beautiful, with plants and flowers surrounding the room. The efficiency studio apartment was comfortable and had everything we needed. It was incredibly quiet and serene. The property is so close to everything: you could walk to the beach, to the grocery store, to restaurants. Phenomenal place to stay. The property is a little bit on the older side, but honestly, we have no complaints. It has so much character and was absolutely beautiful.
- Jennifer (9/5): Had a fun stay in Mendocino overall, will be back. - Location and has full kitchen. Close to market and bakery. Check in and out convenient. Quiet. Bed comfortable. Extra portable bed available. Room is big enough. Staff I spoke with was friendly and hospitable. There is a gap on both sides underneath the front door. Needs to fix weatherstripping bottom part of door. Toilet lid not too clean And seat a bit old.
- Greta (10/5): Exceptional -
- Patricia (6/5): A bit overpriced for the condition of the property, but a great location! - Grounds of the property are interesting and peaceful. Kitchen was adequate. Location was perfect! Front door was not fitted with gaps letting in cold air. Heater worked but took awhile to warm the room. Hot water in shower a bit lacking. Overall clean, but floors not mopped, Noise level with the neighbor lacked privacy, we could hear one another speaking, showering, etc.
- Meredith (7/5): Perfect location. - The location was excellent for attending the film festival. The rooms are dated but comfortable. It felt a little like being at camp or at an old family cottage, very homey. The room was on the coldish side because I couldn’t get the heater to work. The rooms are dated.
- Jennifer (10/5): I had a wonderful stay. I would stay there again. - I liked the location. I liked the property.
- Carol (10/5): Exceptional -
- David (8/5): Worth a Stay! - This place was a pleasant surprise! Great location, the kitchenette was super useful and the room was spacious enough for two people. Very quiet location, even with people doing their art nearby. Just a stroll from the Main Street and other businesses. The instructions to get in were very clear and concise, got into the room super easy. Walking out to sculptures and a garden was very enjoyable. I liked the power strip with the usb connections, that was mighty convenient. The shower randomly started making noise after a couple minutes, wasn't sure if something was wrong but it was a little startling. The wall mounted sink was sagging quite a bit. The bed was a little firm for my taste but that's subjective. Would have been nice to have an iron & board in the room. All very very minor things.
- Neil (8/5): Very good - kitchen facilities were good no tea and coffee in the room
- Sue (8/5): Very good - Location. Being able to prepare our own meals when we wanted to. Walking distance to ocean, art galleries, studios, theater, restaurants, museums, library, and shops! Needs better kitchen equipment. More spoons! Better pans.
- Susan (10/5): Exceptional -
- Helen (9/5): Great location, welcoming art center staff, excellent value - Pro: Location, cleanliness were great, and it was a spacious studio apartment. Value for Mendocino: excellent
Con: mattress sagged so much it was uncomfortable, like sleeping uphill/downhill. We were tempted to flip it over but it’s time for a replacement.
- Cheryl (7/5): Not recommended—overpriced for what you get. - Overpriced. The location is good, but there are better options. The room was very clean, but dated and rather funky. The exterior needs love. We had space heaters, but you can’t run them and use the electric kettle as we found out to our chagrin. We tripped a circuit breaker and it took two hours to get a response from management.
- Deborah (7/5): The location is fabulous but the studio unfortunately had insufficient heat to make it comfortable! - The location was ideal for walking around town and going on hikes - an easy walk to restaurants and cafes. The room was freezing cold! There was a single space heater that was too small to heat the studio - it only barely took the edge off the cold after it had been on for 24 hours. The pull out sofa bed was terrible - the mattress was thin and you could feel the bars. The bathroom was tiny and had a fan that sounded like a helicopter.
- Kathleen (7/5): Good - Location and amenities were perfect for my family
- Cole (7/5): Good -
- Rory (10/5): Exceptional -
- Stacie (8/5): Very good -
- Anne (9/5): Superb - Location! More available contact desirable. Loved room 9. Will be back! Needed reading lamp in bed in room 9. I borrowed fr friend’s room & returned.
- Cynthia (7/5): Nice two night stay. - These studios are basic but comfortable. They are about the size of a hotel room with a small workable kitchen. They are about grounds & gardens are beautiful. Great location & plenty of street parking. Extremely reasonable for Mendocino. We stayed in Unit 1 which was a corner room with lots of light. Needed More glasses & bigger coffee mugs.
- Michael (10/5): Exceptional -
- Ralph (7/5): Good -
- Bianca (8/5): Very good -
- Rich (9/5): Would Love to stay herrrrr fr - Location Dated, could hear outside noise easily
- Ruiz (8/5): Very good - Great location and right price! Comfy bed, great water pressure. It could’ve been cleaner for sure. Missing essentials like a coffee mug… very thin walls.
- Ralph (8/5): Very good -
- John (7/5): Good - Location
- Komater (4/5): Dissapointing as the photos online looked much better than the actual space. - Convenient location
Clean, nice shower head, very basic amenities, relatively inexpensive, Lovely garden, Very rundown building exterior, room entrance off back alley, views from windows of more rundown and shabby exterior, tiny bathroom with tiny shower, musty smell in room
- Jenny (10/5): N/A - It’s in the art center- such a lovely environment. Met one of the resident artists who is obviously very passionate about her work. Got to see the studio - what a fun and magical experience! Awesome location. Everything is just so great - I can’t wait to come back!
- Toni (9/5): Superb -
- Bartina (5/5): Passable - Location was excellent. It was very quiet. Not very clean. Black mold in windows and shower. All the baseboards were dirty and grungy. There was no central heat or air.Had 2 plug in heaters. Only 1 window that would open. It was a very old tired property.
- Jonas (8/5): Very good -
- Nguyen (7/5): Would stay here again if wanting a budget stay in Mendocino - Great location. A few walking blocks to the Headlands. Grocery store just a few blocks town. Very walkable place. Very well stocked kitchen for all your cooking needs. Laundry room available. Though it was mostly clean, there were still dust bunnies around the floorboards. My room (unit 3) has privacy from other residents, but was right next to the road and was noisy sometimes w people walking to/from their cars parked right outside my window.
- Darrin (9/5): Superb -
- Louise (10/5): This is an excellent location, quiet, comfortable and clean cottage. All amenities included. - The simplicity and quaint atmosphere and environment. The grounds were spectacular with the blooming and fragrant flowers, and lush plants. The kitchenette was perfect. Our floor could’ve been a little bit cleaner, but we understand there is dirt nearby that can be easily tracked in. I think a good deep mopping would solve it. Not a big deal.
- Monica (9/5): Superb -
- Jeffrey (10/5): Exceptional -
- David (10/5): Exceptional - Location
- Annmarie (7/5): Clean Rustic like cabin in Mendocino - The location was good Very cold weather so it took a while for the cabin to warm up
- Ron (7/5): Good - The grounds of the property were quite nice. Interesting sculptures, studios, and a nice garden. The turnoff was the second bed in our room. The length of the bed was smaller than us. I do believe that potential guests should be informed of this. The refrigerator was very noisy. Why not buy a smaller and more up-to-date refrigerator. With a little thought the room could have been very nice. The value of our room was too pricey.
- Andrew (10/5): Exceptional -
- Joanne (9/5): Superb - Room was very comfortable and we enjoyed having a kitchen.
- Skip (9/5): Perfect location in beautiful, walkable Mendocinco - No breakfast. It was a large room with a small kitchen but size and kitchen amenities were perfect for us. It didn't have a tv but that was perfectly o.k.. The wifi signal was strong enough so that we could stream on our computer.
- Cait (8/5): A lovely little place! Not fancy, but still comfy! - I liked the location and the kitchenette. I also liked that I didn’t have to wait to check in. They accommodated our early check in. We could hear the employees next to our room, speaking loudly, and the walls are very thin! we could also hear our neighbors easily as well. We also ran out of toilet paper and had no one to tell? The number left was only for emergencies.
- Jennifer (8/5): Very good -
- Beverly (9/5): Superb -
- Becky (10/5): Convenient and close to everything. - Great little studio apartment with kitchen. Rarely available -- these units are typically reserved for visiting artists who teach at the Center.
- George (5/5): Passable -
- Lindsay (10/5): Excellent - Beautiful setting with great sculptures. Peaceful and accessible to main Mendo town. Perfect walk to headlands Really nothing to dislike
- Meredith (10/5): Family friendly in that it is a more affordable option with a second bed. Clean and very comfortable. - Great location for walking to any location in the town of Mendocino. Keyless entry made for super easy arrival and check out.
- Eyal (10/5): Exceptional -
- Megan (10/5): Exceptional -
