- Simon (9/5): Excellent quiet, comfy and secluded bolthole just off the Suffolk coast. - Very quiet position away from any traffic surrounded by a country garden. Off road parking and on a bus route to both the local town and to the coast at Southwold. Pretty well equipped with comfortable furniture. Helpful friendly owners who live on site. Nothing more than my own personal preferences being unfulfilled and nothing of note.
- Wright (9/5): Welcoming host and lovely location - The Unusual solar Straw Bale is to be found down a long, large garden of the hosts' house, in a rural location separated by a series of gates, with all the facilities you would expect and need. The bbq, patio and garden areas were lovely for spending day or evening time outside. The host was extremely welcoming, helpful and knowledgeable of the area.
- Lawler (8/5): -
- Usher (10/5): Lovely Straw Bale Cottage - The hoats Carole & Dean were so accomodating. We made a long journey from Bristol but they made us feel really welcome. The cottage is really lovely & cosy. If we are in the area again, we wouldn't hesitate to book again.
- Elizabeth (9/5): - Very convenient location for me, nice and quiet, lovely huge garden at the back. Hosts were very welcoming and friendly. Perfect for a short stay.
- Jane (8/5): -
- Catherine (10/5): Very private, unique cottage in rural setting. Excellent value for money. - Spacious, high ceiling with rafters, lovely garden, very private, rural atmosphere, a very unique and neat cottage. Very friendly and welcoming hosts. Very comfortable bed. Good TV with streaming channels. Lack of towel rails in the bathroom, to hang towels to dry (we stayed a whole week) It also needed a small dining table and two chairs (to eat meals) There was a fold up card table, but it was a bit flimsy and wobbled a lot. There were two bar stools and a table which was too high - did not suit us as we are older and somewhat disabled
- Jennifer (9/5): Peaceful hideaway near Halesworth - We loved the tranquility of the cottage, it was really quiet at night which was great. We visited during a really hot spell, and the cottage was cool both day and night, which made sleeping easy. The small town of Halesworth was delightful and we had a wonderful meal in The Angel pub in town. The high bar-table and bar-stools in the kitchen area, but we ate outside all the time where we had a choice of tables depending on on where the sun was, so not a problem!
- Stockley (8/5): Peaceful, private once in the cottage - Privacy once in the cottage snd grounds Having to walk through owners private patio and garden
- Karen (10/5): Fantastic hide away cottage - Beautiful cottage and a very quiet garden. Carole and Dean were lovely hosts. Not being able to stay longer, sadly work comes first!
- George (8/5): - Great location for me and very quite. Property was difficult to find as it is behind houses on the main road and not visible.
- Mary (9/5): Great place for a break. - Beautiful cottage & garden, excellent hosts Bed/mattress too soft .
- Tom (8/5): Very good - Lovely location and really nice to have access to a private green space. I wonder if a square table and more solid stools would be better in the kitchen.
- Ian (10/5): Exceptional -
- Sally (3/5): Adequate. Owners friendly and pleasant. - The garden was pleasant. The property was peaceful. Impossible to eat on high stools and high little table in small kitchen. Uncomfortable and cramped. No proper dining table.
Sofa uncomfortable.
Some signage for Bale Straw Cottage would have been helpful.
- Paul (10/5): Ideal for 2 people as a great getaway - Very peaceful. Very private. Had all amenities to make our stay very pleasant.
- John (10/5): Exceptional -
- Sandra (9/5): Superb -
- Christopher (10/5): Exceptional - Lovely & peaceful. Carol& Dean the owners really lovely as well.
- David (8/5): Very good -
- Orforio (9/5): Perfect for a relaxing getaway, for taking some "me" time, and for being surrounded by nature! - Incredibly charming location, friendly hosts, free use of the enormous garden, very cosy cottage, all amenities included, within walking distance from the station, bus stop right outside No bus service on Sunday
- Karen (9/5): Superb -
- Catriona (10/5): Wonderful location, beautiful rooms and lovely hosts! - I loved so much about this place! The room was so beautiful and the grounds were incredible - lots of birds and even some deer in the garden in the early morning. The patio doors out into the garden meant there was lots of light available once the curtains were drawn. The bed was large and comfortable and the place was very tastefully decorated. Everything a guest would need was to hand, including lots of information about the surrounding areas. Carole and Dean were the perfect hosts - very friendly and also respectful of privacy. I’ll be back! The only one thing I would add is a mirror - perhaps on the inside of the wardrobe - as my hair dryer and straighteners flex didn’t reach to the bathroom. But not a real problem!
- Hoole (10/5): Lovely 2 night stay! - Great little unique place to stay. Very comfortable, clean with everything you could need.
Lovely and peaceful, good night's sleep and such friendly hosts. The pictures do not do the cottage justice at all.
Thanks so much - fab! Nothing at all and would certainly return.
- Ian (10/5): Exceptional - Very pleasant stay at the Straw Bale. Well presented accomodation with everything provided for a comfortable stay. Very quiet and peaceful location with private parking available. An easy walk into the town centre. Nothing - exceeded expectations
- Julie (9/5): Superb -
- Leigh (10/5): Fantastic accommodation. Will book again - Great location. Beautiful accommodation. It had everything you could need for a great stay
- Anne (9/5): Really lovely getaway, great place, great hosts, lovely village too. - Great, we were met by our host.
- Deborah (10/5): Delightful, comfortable, peaceful - Warm, comfortable, beautifully decorated, lovely unusual/old fashioned detail in the architecture. It was all beautiful. If you were staying longer there isn't storage space but that presented zero problem for us.
- Lynda (9/5): A good place from which to explore the Suffolk area - This was a central location to explore Suffolk and close to the village of Halesworth. The accommodation was private and comfortable and the hosts were welcoming and helpful. Enjoyed my time here.
- Julia (8/5): Beautiful place to stay, great hosts. Will definitely look to return on my next visit. - Lovely property, especially the grounds (despite the damp weather!). Made to feel very welcome by hosts who were very helpful and friendly. Perhaps some signage would be useful as wasn't easy to find but Carole was available by phone contact to explain the whereabouts and her helpful messaging was very reassuring.
- Ali (10/5): Exceptional -
- Lesley (9/5): Lovely comfortable self catering accommodation - Comfortable accommodation, lovely bed, exceptionally quiet, beautiful garden, very friendly and helpful hosts. Was very impressed with the eco values regarding building and running the property Could have done with more precise directions to the property, particularly as we lost WiFi connectivity on the journey- however this was resolved very quickly by phoning the owner. Also a little chilly on arrival but warmed up by the evening. These minor points didn’t distract from a great stay.
- Harry (10/5): The perfect base for a weekend away! - The straw bale was a perfect peaceful stay with everything we needed and more! The owners are perfect hosts, extremely friendly and helpful! Nothing to dislike!
- Lisa (10/5): Wonderful, tranquil location with excellent hosts - Wonderfully quiet location with wonderful views. Halesworth excellently placed for touring surrounding area. Hosts were very very welcoming and made our stay even more enjoyable
- Bill (9/5): Beautiful little property . The onwers made us very welcome. I would certainy stay again. -
- Ruth (10/5): Perfect in every way. - Straw Bale is absolutely fabulous! From the moment we arrived, we were greeted by a lovely and welcoming host who made us feel right at home. The apartment itself is beautiful, and it’s clear that the host has thought of absolutely everything to ensure a comfortable stay. We were pleasantly surprised to find fresh milk in the fridge, a well-stocked first aid kit, and even phone chargers available for use.
We loved our stay so much that we decided to book an extra night! The location is wonderfully quiet and peaceful, making it the perfect retreat. The garden is expansive, with charming seating areas scattered throughout, allowing us to relax and enjoy the surroundings. One of our favorite moments was sitting outside at night, gazing up at the stars.
Overall, we couldn’t have asked for a better experience at Straw Bale. Highly recommended! The garden is beautifully illuminated, creating a lovely atmosphere. One suggestion we have is the ability to control the lights ourselves before they automatically turn off, which would allow for better stargazing. We may have missed the option to do this, but we often forgot to ask during the day and only remembered late at night. Our host was incredibly helpful, so I'm sure she wouldn’t have minded if we reached out but we were having such a good time we kept forgetting!!
- Hannah (9/5): Great value - lovely little property - It was really clean and compfy.
- Weathersbee (10/5): Amazing place - The property was amazing! Very clean and was like a home from home. The setting was clean and was peaceful. The hosts were lovely and very friendly and made us feel very welcome.
We can not wait to visit again soon. There was nothing not to like.
- Kenneth (8/5): Good value in a great location - Absolutely Fabulous hosts. Great garden Squirrels on the roof!
- Jane (8/5): Very good - Very peaceful garden setting - and totally private ,we enjoyed the birdsong. Nothing
- Siobhan (9/5): A really comfortable, private stay with helpful hosts - Beautiful setting - access to a huge garden with lots of lovely facilities.
- Douglas (10/5): We enjoyed staying in the Straw Bale very much - Carole and Dean were very welcoming and helpful. A very spacious bed-sitting room. A very comfortable bed. A spacious garden. Kitchen equipment all spanking new. Lots of goldfish in the pond. The weather for July could have been better.
- David (9/5): Great welcome from our hosts and the cottage was cosy and comfortable. - Great welcome from our hosts and the cottage was cosy and comfortable. It had all the facilities we wanted and the location was ideal for the areas we wanted to explore. Very quiet and peaceful and we had a lovely couple of days. The unusual high round windows let in a lot of light, which is not ideal at 5am sunrise.
- Kenny (10/5): Exceptional -
