- Abigail (6/5): Decent budget hotel option - The location across from the Heian-jingu shrine was great, and it was in a very beautiful area. The staff were very friendly and accommodating. The rooms were a little run down (stained carpet, old furniture). I also wish they offered a full bed instead of twin beds. There are only two laundry machines in the building and the dryer did not work very well, but that was not a huge issue since there was a laundromat easily walkable.

- Maxime (9/5): Highly recommended as long as you don't need the wi-fi - Lovely staff, lovely room, lovely area right outside the city center and close to everything necessary to enjoy your stay in Kyoto. Wi-Fi was not working very well

- Rowan (6/5): - Great location and fairly clean building, considering its age Pillows were thin but rock solid! staff were helpful with getting additional pillows but still hard as a rock, window also couldn't open more than a few CMs.

- Gurtu (10/5): Ideal staying place for tourists, many places within walking distance. - Location is fantastic! The staff is wonderful, very kind and polite and friendly. The breakfast is nice and substantial. In the bathroom the wash basin and tub partly overlap. While shaving etc once has to stand a bit twisted to use the tap water and the mirror.
Also we found the beds too soft (but some may like that).
- Rémi (8/5): - Chambre assez grande, bien équipée Rien
- Khalid (10/5): Excellent property - The property was very neat and clean. The rooms were tidy and well maintained. As I have some work for nearby, the location was good and met my expectation, Nothing

- Conor (7/5): Good -
- Zhihao (9/5): A very cost-effective stay - This time is the same time as seven years ago,we still chose the tatami room. The tatami room makes people feel very warm and cozy. The room is very clean and spacious. It's a little cold to stay in a tatami room in winter.
- Josiah (9/5): Superb -
- Jesse (8/5): Very good -
- Clara (7/5): Good -
- Ahylim (10/5): Exceptional -
- Martin (7/5): Was a okay stay I would say, probably would not come back for same price per night and look for something better in the - Nothing really outstanding, but basically what we had expected and overall okay. Kind of old/outdated rooms and no elevator. Maybe we would have expected a little bit more for the money, but we booked quite late.
- Chen (8/5): Very good - The employee is friendly and facilities are good The room is too crowded for 3 people with limited space to use.
The light is too dim as well as slow wifi
- Ash (10/5): great hotel, cute location, right across from heian shrine! - everything. I have no complaints. I wish the hotel had an elevator however. the only thing I didn't like was that there was no elevator.
- Gregor (8/5): Good stay in Kyoto - Clean room and nothing to complain about. Good location close to bus station. Room size was rather small.
- Kanyanan (6/5): Pleasant -
- Kate (8/5): Very good -
- Gusti (10/5): Exceptional -
- Chonnikarn (10/5): Exceptional - room is bigger than I expect well location so peaceful bathroom is so clean and very very very kind staff
- Prasanna (9/5): Superb - The staff were very friendly and helpful. The room was very clean as well. Also, the hotel is in a very good location. Being a vegetarian, the staff took extra care in preparing a special western vegetarian meal on days when I paid for breakfast. I did not find any negatives. Did miss a lift but it was good exercise so no complaints.
- Nathan (10/5): Exceptional -
- Stephanie (9/5): Superb - Comfortable, clean, easy to find and excellent location.
- Sandra (7/5): Good -
- Lidia (8/5): Strategic position and great value for money - Good value for money, clean and comfortable, in a strategic position (could walk to Ninienzaka, the ancient city center, to the food quaters, and to several hikes in the hills north east from Kyoto N/a
- Helene (10/5): Very good option for Kyoto stay - Great location.
Friendly staff.
There’s a public bath in the basement.
Very clean. Comfortable. There’s a self heating kettle in the room, cups and green tea.
Quiet area, had no problems with sleep. Convenient stores nearby. Beautiful shrine just few minutes walking away from hotel. There’s a microwave on the first floor for heating your food.
Good thick curtains to create darkness for a better sleep. We enjoyed our stay. Wifi connection on the fourth floor was not good…
Conditioner in the room was noisy, may be it’s too old.
- Gall (6/5): Pleasant - Very clean and colorful, but a budget stay. The rooms were kind of small. The place needs some updates, but the staff was kind. The location was perfect, near a beautiful shrine.
- Christina (9/5): Superb - The staff was super friendly. It is a bit further out of most touristic place, but I loves the location away from the crowds but still close.
I can highly recommend this place. It is not that I did not like it, just want you to be aware that there are no elevators. A staff member carried my luggage without me asking to the 4th floor. Thanks.
- Roy (8/5): Very good -
- Mai (9/5): Superb - It locates in a cultural area, along the most beautiful channel with a lot of sakura trees. It has no elevator.
- David (10/5): Exceptional - Amazing staff!Very kind
- Elizabeth (7/5): Great location. Didn’t take any photos of this hotel, just some sightseeing - cherry blossoms were blooming and pretty! - Location was very good for walking to places. However it is a very old hotel without lifts and they had put us on the 4th level which, I think, was a better room, but they could see we (being 70+yrs) would not be able to drag bags up four floors. They altered our booking to the ground level but the room wasn’t very nice. It was more manageable though. Didn’t know this info at time of booking so it should be made more clear to help older folk. See above.
- Tomas (9/5): Superb -
- Federico (7/5): Good -
- Catriona (8/5): Haven of peace still close to the action - The staff at Kyoto Travellers Inn were so nice, helpful and consumate professionals who would hand us our room key as we walked in from day one they knew us. The hotel is an easy walk to lots of busy parts of Kyoto but a haven of quiet from the crowds as well. I loved the little onsen downstairs and the bathrobes they provided.
This is a great location to visit many temples although a hike to one or two of the most famous but it's well connected by bus and underground. It was less than ¥3500 in a taxi from the train station but you can also do it quite easily on the subway if you're familiar with how Japanese trains work.
There's a 7 eleven on the corner which is handy and a lot of nice shops nearby. It's also close to the Philosophers Path walk which was beautiful in Cherry Blossom season There aren't so many restaurants right by the hotel, you need to go in a bit for that but that's not a huge issue
- Maria (7/5): Convenient Location! Pleasant Staff! - The Location is convenient with regards to transportation, stores, restos and nearby attractions. The shower. The water pressure was v. Low or weak.
- Marvin (7/5): Good -
- Desiree (6/5): Pleasant -
- Eva (10/5): Exceptional - The room we got was a bit small but still very comfortable and clean! They provide japanese style pyjamas that we loved. There are 2 options for breakfast, western of japanese style. The hotel is well located, only 10min by foot from Gion district.
- Richard (8/5): Friendly, comfortable and good value. - The location was excellent, very friendly staff, great value, comfortable beds, clean with rooms serviced often and had everything we needed. Breakfast was great too. The room decor is a little tired but not an issue. The rooms are quite small, but this seems to be similar in most Japanese cities.
- Sujata (5/5): Passable - Only location being quite. Its an old hotel building, no elevator, our room i felt stuffy causing hay fever bout possibly due to carpet dust, kettle didn't work that well.
During our Japan trip, this was the hotel we paid the most but found it least liked
Certainly, over priced for the experience, stay, facilities etc.
- Nicholas (10/5): Exceptional - Staffs were super friendly and provided my family excellent service.
I highly recommend this hotel to travellers.
Location is fairly decent for Philosophers Path, Ginkaku-ji, Maruyama Park.
Kiyomizu-dera is also near by using bus.
Nearest Subway would be the Higashiyama station.
- Thaniya (10/5): Feel like home and highly recommend! - We love the atmosphere and surrounding of the hotel.
It’s near many happening places, not so difficult to go to any tourism spots like Gion, Kiyomizu-dera etc.
The room is very comfortable for three of us and it’s also well equipped. Regardless of the vintage ambiance, we found it’s warm and cozy. We had good sleep there!
The manager and staff are all helpful and willing to help us out when we try to find a parking spot. He immediately jumped out from the reception counter and guided us to the parking lot.
We received the beautiful gift when just added the hotel in our social media platform.
Love this hotel! Nothing
- Heidi (7/5): A good Japanese style place with sento in a nice location. - Pretty relaxed place. Sento was nice. Very spacious room with good futon. Affordable coin washing washines. Nice location on the east side of town. The frosted glass windows in the rooms. (You can open up the windows a little bit though).
- Alittlebirdy (6/5): Pleasant -
- Megan (5/5): Nice location, dated & expensive rooms - The location of the property was fantastic. The view of the park and proximity to the philosophers path, temples, Gion and the subway were great. The staff were very friendly. Free robes, slippers, toothbrushes and soap were included. The breakfast was reasonable and tasted good. The staff were kind enough to let us leave our bags there the following day until we left Kyoto at 2pm. The building is old and needs major renovations. The carpet was unforgivable. My son developed coughing and sneezing while there. I believe it was due to the old carpet and mold. The room had a strong smell. For the cost of the room I expected much more.
