Guest Reviews
- Michael (10/5): Oustaning experience in a good value for money property. - Stunning location and most likely best location in whole of Clarens. The host was very responsive and always reachable. The cottage was newly renovated as far as we can tell. The welcome gifts were appreciated. We had too little time to explore the enormous property.

- Hendrik (10/5): -
- Amy (10/5): - Tranquil environment with an awesome view. Large, beautiful garden and a cozy chalet that was well supplied. Perfect blend of traditional Swiss finishes on the outside with modern and clean finishes inside.
- Bradley (10/5): Unique Swiss / Austrian acomodation - Unique Swiss/ Austrian style accommodation. Vast open spaces for the doggo to run and roam. Safe and convenient location. Na
- netshishivhe (9/5): - Everything was good , very clean The bathroom set up
- Genevieve (9/5): Lovely, peaceful property with lots of running space for the kids and comfort for the adults - Loved the whole chalet, cosy and perfect for our family. Nothing
- Cloete (8/5): It felt like we were in the Alps!! - The interior is lovely and the Swiss chalet theme is very quaint. The furniture and finishes are modern, although it is very cosy with all the amenities. It is a short walk or drive into town and views from property are beautiful. Owner was very helpful and also gave recommendations for good restaurants. Communication before and during our stay also very good. There was some problems with the power and although there are back up power supplies it seems that there was an issue so we didnt have power at some points. Owner was very helpful and prompt in trying to resolve issues. Some torches or lights you can use when power out would be a good addition I think.
- Bronwyn (7/5): Fair - The fire place. The view. The linen Didn't feel clean. Cheap toilet paper. No cleaning service. Door leading to patio was an issue. Main gate wasn't working and stood unlocked.
- Nicola (10/5): -
- Amanda (8/5): Had an amazing time in a beautiful location. - Very comfortable, clean and tidy. Fantastic view and location. Host was extremely helpful . Everything was super.
- Colin (4/5): Access code for lock box was not provided and could not access the property for 3 hours - Beautiful property Aircon was useless. Did not cool the unit
- D (9/5): Superb -
- Andrew (9/5): Superb - Situated on a large and beautiful property with everything you need for your stay. Plenty of space for kids or dogs to run around outside in fenced area. Comfortably furnished and up to date. Easy to check in/out and the host was very easy and quick to communicate with. The one shower is open and en suite in the downstairs bedroom - may be trickier for a group traveling together.
- Yougeshree (9/5): Superb -
- Alieza (10/5): Exceptional - Was absolutely wonderful! Will definitely go back 😃
- Lindelwa (4/5): Disappointing - Beautiful and cosy The host was incredibly rude and, inconsiderate.
The directions were not clear. He was not helpful and seemed annoyed when we called to ask for help. He came into the house while we were there uninvited. Overall terrible experience.
- Desiree (10/5): Beautiful tranquil get away - The peace And tranquility
- Andre (10/5): Exceptional -
- Makobetsa (8/5): Very good - The staff was exceptional and responded promptly to our needs.
We liked the location of the place with exquisite view of the mountains, spacious yard and garden with trees. The Swiss Chalet was kept clean and tidy throughout our stay. As a family of four, we found the Swiss Chalet very cosy with absolute tranquility and privacy.
Although we did not experience loadshedding or power outages during our stay, we liked the fact that the Swiss Chalet has the UPS or backup batteries to continously supply power to essential appliances, including keeping the lights on.
We loved the place in general. We would certainly stay at the Swiss Chalet for much longer duration in the future.
The owners and staff must keep up the stellar work in making the Swiss Chalet a worthwhile accommodation for a vacation. We didn't like the fact that some appliances such as the air-conditioner, TV, kettle and gas heater were either dysfunctional or not functional at all. We would recommend to the owners to fix or replace them. Furthermore, we recommend that the caretaker and/or property manager routinely tests them and ensure that they work properly at all times.
We would also recommend to the owners to invest in building a swimming pool, adjacent to the Swiss Chalet, especially for use during the hot sumner season.
While the place seems safe with an alarm system and a security patrol, which responded when we accidentally triggered a panic button; we would recommend to the owners to place a visible sign at the gate that the place is patrolled by a rapid response armed security 24/7 as an assurance to guests and a deterrent to opportunistic criminals.
Thank you and best wishes.
- Remmy (10/5): Amazing - The Swiss Chalet was breathtakingly beautiful, clean, we had ample privacy and it was just lovely sitting back and relaxing away from busy city life. Would definitely visit again 😊
- Lerato (10/5): Exceptional -
- Angela (8/5): Very good - Location, close to town and Titanic trail. Beautiful views of Mt Horeb and Golden Gate.
Garden, perfect for our dogs.
- Metse (8/5): Awesome family getaway with loads to do. - Location- easy access ( walking distance) to town and hiking trails. The chalet itself is beautiful and well built.
Security- chalet was secure and gave us peace of mind.
Cleanliness- the property and the chalet are kept clean and neat.
Amenities- the chalet is equipped with all the necessities for a comfortable stay. No load shedding drama!
Reception- Ernesto was thoughtful and checked on us The couch in the living room could be changed to one that is more comfortable.
- Nicky (10/5): We have stayed at The Swiss Chalet Clarens a few times and have always loved it! Highly recommended -
- Tebogo (8/5): Great - The privacy of the property, you are the only ones when you book the cottage as the main house is empty. The cottage is mainly for family a couple and 2 kids will be more appropriate or a group of girl friends, We were 2 couples and the fact that there was only one bathroom and toilet, it was a bit of an inconvenience. It should not be advertised as 2 bedroom, more like 1 bedroom and a loft is more like it. The gardens are well maintained, the views are amazing.
- Nicola (10/5): Exceptional -
- Themba (7/5): An unexpectedly cramped chalet set on an extraodinarily beautiful property - The chalet is on a huge property with lovely grounds. I donyt think you could ask for a more beautiful setting. We were able to pick Granny Smith apples and gather nuts as well. The bed was comfortable and the views all around the area are exquisite. The staff were very attentive and looked after us very well. We hadnt quite realized that the second bedroom was an upstairs room which is not private and has nothing else there. We were glad that we had not gone with friends. The steps going up look dangerous to us. The en-suite bedroom/shower room arrangement looks odd, with both a half wall divider to the shower area and a further a glass divider between the shower and a storage cupboard, although the shower itself is great. Much of the storage space was high up and would be difficult to access by quite a few people. Unfortunately the seating arrangement (a sleeper-couch and hard chairs only) were not very comfortable.
- Pye (8/5): The Swiss chalet was perfect for our family. Extremely private and great location. - Peaceful with a huge well maintained private garden. Stunning views and great decor. Neat and clean. Loved the hammocks. Very private, we didn’t see another person on site the entire time. Quite unsettling not knowing the history of the main lodge and why it was abandoned and so dark at night. Felt like a horror movie set.
We didn’t receive any information about the gate code, alarm system or anything regarding the place.
The shower did not drain and flooded the bathroom floor.
Not enough comfortable seating inside and outside to enjoy the view.
Road noise was distracting.
Beds are very hard.
- Magauta (10/5): Exceptional -
- Suchin (7/5): Good - Very Clean. The stairs is too dangerous for ages under 5 years old, I feel that they need to put a handle on the stairs to prevent accidents. The bathroom and bedroom is not separated so it is very humid when you showers in the room.
- Nicole (7/5): Swiss Chalet - The 2 bedrooms were beautiful, with clean crisp bedding.
Free wifi was awesome
Beautiful surroundings
Solar backup was great
The dishwasher was great
Alarm was nice to feel secure
Beautiful fire place
Awesome aircon On 2 nights, we had no water from around 9/10pm, so we could not shower, etc.
No microwave
No toaster
The surrounding town was average
Carpets were loose and a little dirty. They all needed a good wash.
The shower leaked a little on one night, so you heard water running slowly
- Maretha (9/5): Great wish could have stayed longer -
- Hermanlourens (10/5): Will definitly stay here again when coming to Clarens with the family. - Exception space and all the comforts you need to make your stay memorable. Room upstairs not for kids that are too small - I would say younger than 4 years old maybe - the stairs could be a bit of a safety issue for them. Otherwise fantastic. Nothing - had a great stay.
- Tessa (9/5): Superb -
- Samuel (9/5): Lovely breakaway to a peaceful little gem. - The location and view were superb No microwave oven
- Nicky (10/5): Exceptional - Absolutely stunning cottage. Spotlessly clean and comfortable.
- Jose (10/5): This was an absolutely amazing place to stay! - The property was fully kitted out with absolutely everything we could have wanted. WiFi, exceptional beds and linen, fire place, braai, aircon and an inverter. There was even some really great bottles of wine left for us. The bunnies were also very cute. Nothing. Wish the house was available too.
- Rynette (10/5): Exceptional - Clean, modern, comfortable and cozy lots of space for the doggies. Peaceful view and surroundings.
- Andrea (10/5): Exceptional -
- Grant (9/5): Superb -
- Catherine (8/5): my dogs loved the open space ! was amazing for the family - all new small stuff not important
- Lindie (8/5): wonderful, comfy and great quality - It is beautiful and everything is of excellent quality it just needs an extractor fan in the bathroom.
But that's not a dealbreaker
- Pieter (9/5): Superb -
- Sascha (10/5): Exceptional -
- Botsang (10/5): Exceptional -
- Noël (10/5): Exceptional - The chalet is stunning, new and stylish. Situated in a huge park-like garden with beautiful mountain views. Quiet surroundings. We really enjoyed the peaceful setting - yet close enough for a nice walk to various restaurants in Clarens. The chalet contains all that is needed for self-catering including comfy beds and a fireplace for the cooler evenings. There is also a solar / battery backup power unit which automatically takes over during loadshedding. We stayed 3 nights and really enjoyed it. Gem of a place in Clarens - highly recommended.
- Moleboheng (10/5): Exceptional - Amazing property. Clean and well kept.

And it was amazing not being affected by eskom and loadsheeding!
