Guest Reviews
- huijin (7/5): -
- Georgios (5/5): - I like it was quiet area and had a balcony The Bathroom needs reconstruction; the floor and ceiling need repair. The Internet was very slow when it was working. In our case, 3 days out of 4 had no internet.
- Mulalo (5/5): We were able to lay our head in the morning, we were supposed to stay for 2days we only stayed half day - Honestly nothing The location and the rooms ain’t that nice .
Smelled like dust
- Martin (7/5): Good -
- Yilmaz (8/5): Very good - Big room, big bed, balcony, fan, hotshower Little noise from outside, bathroom liitle moldy, sometime electric cut
- Agathe (7/5): Good -
- Juliet (9/5): Superb - Good value, nice room and comfortable bed. Private bathroom and balcony were nice too and staff were very attentive. Its a bit out of the main area which we enjoyed but needed a scooter for if youre looking to be incredible close to the beach but we were very happy with the location to be further away from tourists.
- Danielle (10/5): Great place to call home away from home. Much thanx to the wonderful staff. - Room clean and comfortable. Staff wonderful. Kitchen clean. Very quiet compared to other rentals in Zanzibar. Water pressure in shower not so great but manageable. :)
- Maria (10/5): I really enjoy my staying at Mbuyuni - The staff is amazing. I really enjoy my staying in there and local vibe. Eskola and Adam are amazing people. Good condition for the price, really affordable. -
- Mohamed (3/5): Poor -
- Liam (5/5): Passable -
- Giorgia (7/5): Good -
- Josefina (8/5): Good - The room is spacious Not so close to the beach. Electricity and water not always available
- Lauren (3/5): Awful stay. - Ideal location. The pictures on here didn’t match what we stayed in. The room smelt like dogs. The power cuts would knock off out lights for hours. We had no aircon working in the high temperature of Zanzibar. The toilet/shower room were filled with lozards and cockroaches. There are no signs to say the first room downstairs is not reception, so we had people knocking on our door constantly early hours to check In or for when they needed staff.
The taps for the shower gave electric shocks when turning them on and off.
The shower would flood the bathroom, if you want to go to the toilet you’d have to drain the floor or wear shoes to avoid getting soaked.
There was no door for the toilet. It was a shower curtain that doesn’t cover the entire door frame.
- Maria (1/5): Not even for one night - I liked pretty much nothing apart from the staff that looked ok. The place seems to have been left in a state of "half ready" with many things that need to be done, like the floor, but not only. Ceiling with mold stains and holes in the wall. And mold smell also. Bathroom very small, not easy to be used. Shower with no good pressure and you need to let them know so they open the flow. Why should you actually? They must have it open when guests there anyway. And the pillows the worst I have seen in my life. And many more small details that it seems they will stay there forever, like the stickers on window frames that nobody ever made the effort to remove them after installation. In general a badly made and maintained place that offers no comfort.
The whole ambience of the hotel looks like there is zero effort to make this place look welcoming. And absolutely no value for money. For the same price I have stayed in exceptional places around Zanzibar. So for sure price is way too high for this place. Friendly advice to owner is to fix this place and make it look welcoming, otherwise he better change the purpose of use. Certainly not hospitality. People book rooms to rest and have a pleasant stay. Not to feel that they wasted their money. And by the way I stayed even though I saw all this mess, because it was not refundable. Absolutely not recommended.
- Laurene (2/5): Very poor - Scola was lovely, she took good care of us and was kind. We should have been warned of the unfinished floor and walls, I have asthma so the effects caught up too quick. The head also tried to rip us off a number of times which became irritating.
- Bosire (6/5): Nungwi is a Vybe Period - The premise was really convenient location-wise , not far from the beach, Wi-Fi was good and the place is ideal for backpackers who would prefer to save money and enjoy what the locality has to offer. The staff was really lovely and friendly (SCHOLA) , she really assisted us with blending in locally , with the locals making the trip rather exciting. Water in the shower wasn't flowing properly , but maybe this was just our room ; generally not so much to complain about
- Rebeka (8/5): Good value for the money. - Price Location
- Maurice (9/5): Superb - The rooms are spacious and have taste of it's own
- Simon (6/5): Good place for lower income person - Affordable Cool environment
- Rufaro (6/5): A pleasant stay - The place was clean though the surrounding area is very dirty. The girl at the lodge is super nice. The cooking area is quite spacious. The beds are different but comfortable. There are no TV in the room and the bathroom drainage system is bad.
The guy who runs the lodge is rude
- Ahmed (8/5): Very good -
- N (4/5): Nightly battle against Mosquitos and Ants - +staff friendly Hard to sleep as of
-No MOSQUITO Net -> so a lot of mosquitoes biting during the night. There are large gaps between an outside door and to the hallway under the doors which let mosquitos freely to your room. When you turn off the lights they are on you
- substantial amount of ANTS. They will walk and bite you during the night, while they will search and try to invade your bags. The beds are made of solid concrete attached to the wall, so at least in my room the ants used the bed as a bridge between the walls and the floor
-dirty floor
-internet weak, for example streaming is choppy
OBS. The facilities are extremely basic. No hot water (though you won't need it), no thrash bins.
- Hawa (5/5): Passable - The value of money it’s good.. but on the toilet they purposely to finish their facilities first.. cause no shut off.. no bessen tape and the room that they was give us it’s have a big drum that they put water on this.. at the toilet..
- Maria (10/5): A must in your holidays! - Everything was perfect during my stay there in Nungwi. Quiet place, no noise and comfy rooms!
The staffs will help you in all you need so, don’t hesitate!
- Francois (7/5): Good - Nice welcome
Friendly employees Water on the floor in the shower and broken toilet seat.
Ciment beds are not comfortable
- Russell (10/5): Exceptional - The ladies who work there are the best!
- Fabio (7/5): Good - Taking into consideration the price, the —- Lodge is a good accommodation, although there are some aspects that could be improved.
The AC doesn’t work and there is no sink in the bathroom.
The first room we stayed didn’t have a curtain to separate the bathroom and the rest of the room and the fan was not working very well, but the staff members are very nice and moved us to another room which overall was nice.
It is not located in the center of the village of Nungwi so to go around you must take a piki piki, otherwise it would take a lot of time to reach both the beach and the shops.
There is a kitchen available with a small fridge, water, a boiler and coffee and tea.
- Altoon (9/5): Superb -
- Olafs (10/5): Exceptional - Probably best hotel in Zanzibar, staff is extremely helpful and hospitable. Rooms are very big and nice. Beach is not too far also.
- Claudio (8/5): Very good -
- Magunila (10/5): Exceptional -
- Rose (10/5): Fantastic!! I will come back - I really enjoyed my stay. I had the best holiday.Mustafa is friendly, the same to staff(they were helpful.

- Nelson (10/5): Excellent, amazing and quite - Had a great engagement with the staff and they were easy to talk to and help.. will def recommend and come back again I did not experience any trouble. All good
- David (10/5): Great place to stay and lovely helpful staff - The staff were kind, great and always helpful with what ever was needed for a pleasant stay. Location about a 15-20 minute walk from the lovely Kendwa beach. WiFi worked well and I was very pleased with my stay. Thank you to the lovely staff of Mbuyuni Lodge for making my stay so enjoyable! Nothing, I was pleased with everything
- Glory (10/5): Exceptional -
- Amaiadona (7/5): okay for the price - I liked the size of the room, it was big and beds confortable. I didn't like the toilet at all, no sink in the toilet and the shower little pressure but as I said for the price it was acceptable.
- Tamrat (9/5): Superb -
