Guest Reviews
- Bridget (10/5): - The cabin was beautiful, clean and quite spacious! It felt really private and had a lovely view. It’s only a short drive to Portree which is really convenient for food options. Margaret was very communicative. We really enjoyed our stay- it had everything we needed and it was great location for seeing all the sights of the Isle of Skye.
- Γιαννης (10/5): -
- Jodie (9/5): - The view!!
Clean & cosy cabin.
Comfy bed, good shower.
10 minute walk to town centre.
Plenty of tea/coffee/sugar/milk.
Margaret greeted us with fresh bread & we loved the fudge.
- Enzo (9/5): - La vue Le manque d'équipement de cuisine
- HYUNWOO (10/5): Lovely place - Margaret was such a wonderful host. She was incredibly attentive to our needs and quickly resolved any issues we had. The views were breathtaking, and we loved how private the space felt. The bedding was very comfortable, the hot water and water pressure were excellent, and the room was beautifully decorated. We had a perfect stay! Nothing
- Jennifer (10/5): Cozy guesthouse with beautiful view - Cozy place a little outside of town. Beautiful view from the window. We really appreciated the basket of snacks, teas, hot chocolate etc. Thank you.
- kunteel (7/5): - Nice and cosy and easy access Needs more shelf space in bathroom. Ok for us ywo blokes to but our stuff of floor but our families would have been miffed.
Plus we were on a walking holisay aomorehooks for wetgear would have helped but I realise you nay e cater more to families.

- Suprit (10/5): -
- Joel (10/5): Majestic view and magical Isle of Skye. - Location, the cabin, Margaret, the lady that runs it, and her grandaughter are very friendly, the majestic view from the cabin window. I understand it is a double bed but it could do an update to a bigger bed size.
The sofa can be changed to a sofa bed and that will give an option to an extra bed.
Extra shelves in the bathroom can be added to place toothbrush and toothpaste.
- Martina (7/5): - Good location, parking place just beside the cottage, complimentary basic breakfast items in the fridge (yoghurt, bread, butter, fruit). The cottage has a potential to be really nice and cosy, if someone gives it some care. Many little things - the place is in a state of disrepair, windows are hard to close/open, no decent light and no shelves in the bathroom, kitchen desk not very clean, no wardrobe (and lot of throw cushions with no place to stack them, let alone your stuff)....etc. Overpriced for what it is.
- Helen (6/5): Disappointed - Reasonable location - could walk to Portree (about a kilometre each way); spacious shower and large towels; space to relax Expected it to be self-catering (the name of the property is ‘self-catering cabin’) but there are no real cooking facilities (just an air-frier and a microwave plus a non-working hot plate in a drawer); no pots / pans - not even any microwave dishes (couldn’t even cook the eggs we brought for breakfast); on arrival had to wash glasses and plates as they were not clean (have photos) bed is uncomfortably soft
- Yvonne (9/5): Lovely location and perfect facilities - Beautiful location and great facilities Nothing
- Cori (10/5): If we’re ever in Portree again, we’d be thrilled to come back to Hazelmount! - We were so surprised by how cute this stay was! The view from the bedroom is fantastic, and we were located close enough to the city that we could walk into town for food.
- Johana (9/5): Superb -
- Tatjana (10/5): Beautiful and relaxing - Beautiful and peaceful location with stunning views. The accommodation was very spacious and comfortable. The host was very welcoming and friendly. We would love to stay there again.
- Will (8/5): A great option for a time away in Skye. - Beautiful big room with a nice view (weather permitting). The kitchen has a good variety of things to use. We arrived in the dark and found the place hard to find. It's right at the end of the street. Speaking of the street... The potholes are appalling. Comms not great.
- Alasdair (9/5): Nice little place with nice view. - Good location and peaceful with nice view. Good parking. All facilities worked and of good standard. Breakfast items left along with milk and butter which gets you going immediately. Being used to a bigger bed, double felt small. I'd sacrifice a couple of inches beside the bed for bigger. I suspect it's the Council but the road up to the property is extreme in terms of pot holes and, with a hire car, I was concerned about damage.
- Linda (10/5): Exceptional - Cozy, warm, and a beautiful view. Would definitely book again.
- Ching (9/5): Superb -
- Jane (10/5): Lovely cozy, private cottage which felt like a home away from home. A comfortable 15-20 easy walk from Portree. - Lovely views.
Warm, cozy and very private.
Option of catering for yourself & lovely supply basket left for breakfast.
Plenty of glasses & plates provided (but no real cooking facilities).
Very welcoming & helpful host Everything was great
- Janet (5/5): Nice location but the property could do with a refresh. - The location was excellent.
The basket of biscuits and snacks was a nice touch and the bread and milk welcome. The room was advertised as having a large double bed. It did not. It was a standard double.
It was nice to have a coffee machine but no instructions on how to use it.
The access road was in very poor condition and difficult to avoid huge potholes. It would have been impossible in a different vehicle.
It was a little tired and the outside could do with a refresh. Plastic flowers in overflowing pots outside weren’t welcoming. Cushions on the outside bench were sodden and slug ridden.
- Chris (10/5): Exceptional -
- Rachel (10/5): Exceptional - The cabin was so cozy! Beautiful location just outside of town, with amazing views, amenities and support from lovely Margaret next door!
- Richard (8/5): Very good -
- Philip (9/5): Cosy and comfortable - Roomy, comfortable, well equipped with a nice basket of food on arrival Potholes in the access road
- Tara (8/5): Great location and wonderful host! - Our host went and bought breakfast items for us which was a really nice touch! The cabin was cosy and a nice spot to relax after hikes on the island. Place was a little dusty and there was mold on the bathroom ceiling.
- Kimberly (4/5): Would not recommend - The cottage had a little mini kitchen. I had to sleep on very uncomfortable sofa bed and was given an old lumpy comforter that didn’t seem clean. The mattress pad had bugs on it and host came and took off bed and says it wasn’t dirty and never brought back so for 3 days no mattress pad. Room was drafty, floors very cold. Too long a walk to city center.
- Dirghar (9/5): Beautiful and spacious cabin that had everything you need to stay in. - It was very spacious and the kitchen was filled with snacks, milk, bread and butter which was very helpful! The room had furniture that was fitting and was even equipped with board games! The floor was unfortunately always cold even after turning the heating up, maybe some bedroom slippers might help in the winter?
- Kevin (10/5): A welcome from the owner and every thing was ready for us to walk in the door - Easy access + parking very central for our visit
- Anonymous (9/5): Superb -
- Hook (10/5): Romantic Road Trip To Skye - We loved that we had a lovely cabin to ourselves, the privacy it gave us, the decor made it very cosy, it very much felt like our place for a couple of days. We had everything we needed. Table top stove, microwave, air fryer, fridge, kettle and toaster. Sofa and TV. Comfy bed. Big shower. A lovely hamper full of breakfast goodies. Fruit, yoghurt and milk in the fridge too. We would definitely re book for next year.
- Laura (9/5): Superb -
- Chiara (7/5): Good -
- Pamela (9/5): Superb - They view was excellent, place was beautifully decorated and the small gestures such as hand soaps, welcome basket etc was a lovely touch. Would defo go back Nothing
- Lisa (8/5): Great location in Portree, easy access to all of Skye. - Great location
Clean room and bathroom & kitchen Host hard to get hold of but helped when she could
- Ethan (8/5): Wonderful cabin! - Lovely little cabin a short drive from everything you need in Portree. Margaret was a lovely and kind host, and we enjoyed having the privacy of our own space around the back of the B&B. Comfy bed and a wonderful view too!
- James (9/5): Excellent. - Continental breakfast basket provided us with more than needed for our 3 day stay. Lots of choice.
- Jonas (10/5): Exceptional - I liked the basket with breakfast items and the view out of the window. I enjoyed my stay very much.
- Adrian (9/5): A really lovely cabin in a great location - A perfect start to our holiday. - The location of this was perfect, easy to walk into the town. The view from the room was lovely and we enjoyed sitting and eating our breakfast looking out at the views. The cabin was well equipped with lovely thoughtful additions e.g. slippers, fudge and other goodies in the food basket. Milk, butter and bread on arrival was great.
Parking on site. Good quality towels, bedding and toiletries made us feel spoilt. Although we were aware that there was no oven we did not realise that there was no hob. There was an air fryer but we are not familiar with how to use this.
- Kate (9/5): The Isle of Skye is a beautiful place to visit. Be prepared for the single lane roads, they are crazy especially during - Comfortable with a great view. Very generous supply of breakfast foods and real milk. The bathroom had no shelf to put the toiletries on.
- Lisa (9/5): Fabulous views, lovely friendly host, will definitely be back. - The location was super handy and view was lovely.
The basket of treats was a lovely but unexpected surprise.
Well set out for the space, it felt roomy and had all we needed. Given the lovely views, a nice place to sit out with table and chairs would have been perfect. More of a suggestion than a criticism.
- Demi (9/5): Superb - De cabin is very beautiful and clean, the view is amazing.
- Andrew (9/5): Superb - Great little cabin on the way into Portree. Amazing views. Very well equipped and clean.
- Stephen (10/5): Exceptional - The cabin is charming, cozy, comfortable, and quiet. Exactly what we wanted. Great place to use as a base while visiting Skye. Walking to the center of town is about 20 minutes, which we didn't mind. We did have a car, but parking in the center can be a little challenging. The walk was pleasant.
- Stephen (9/5): Great place with lots of lovely details provided by the owner. - Lovely cabin with very thoughtful amenities and a beautiful view of the water. The only minor negative was that it took about 20 minutes to walk into town.
- Maes (10/5): Exceptional - The cabin was clean and cutely decorated. Nothing. Everything was great!
- Lori (9/5): We would stay again - There was plenty of room and nicely decorated. The view was very nice looking over the harbor and watching the cruise ships come on. The shower was X-Large and we had a lot of water pressure and hot water for a nice comfortable shower. We had a wonderful welcome basket with some food and snacks to get us thru as needed. The drive coming in was steep and rough with big potholes. The floors were cold but the owner did provide slippers which were needed.
- Schneider (9/5): Great location to explore Portree and the Isle of Skye and enjoy some peaceful time with great view. - First the view is incredible and the property is at end of a very quiet road, very peaceful location. Walking to the center of town easy 10 to 15 minutes. Nice size shower and well stocked with the basics. Comfortable outdoor space to enjoy the view. The slippers were a nice touch. As we are coffee drinkers it would have been nice to have another option to instant coffee, maybe a French press or a pod system. But that a first world problem not a deal breaker by any means.
- Robert (10/5): Welcoming, clean, comfortable cabin having a great location. - perfect location for me, easy access to the town and the spots I’d planned to photograph. The cabin was clean, comfortable, well equipped including decent Wi-Fi and I was welcomed to place, briefly by the host, as I arrived. nothing of note
- Karen (8/5): Very good -
- Elaine (5/5): My opinion: Margaret is a nice lady and a good host but this property is past it’s prime. - It is in a good location in Portree if you have a car. It’s on a main road, offset above the road with onsite parking. The main road is dark, with a lot of traffic. You would have a hard trek to walk to restaurants, shops etc. We stayed in the cabin (there were no guests in the house rooms and we were only offered the cabin which is a self catering unit). This means no breakfast, no towel changes nor cleaning. We were provided with an electric kettle, toaster, refrigerator and microwave. The owner Margaret is very accommodating and readily available. Views are beautiful from the property. The “driveway” to the unit is full of potholes. The heat in the unit (2 radiators) comes on 2 times per day for 2 hours(?). The heat output is not adjustable and the bathroom is always cold. A towel warmer is a substitute for heat. It rained a lot during our stay and the outdoor mats were soaked with water, causing wet prints in the cabin. There is only one small carpet in the center of the room. No closet, just some hooks behind the door with hangers. Also no place for suitcases, we used the couch as a stand.
- Shane (10/5): Exceptional -
- Joan (10/5): Exceptional - was in a quiet spot with a lovely view
- Hilary (8/5): Very good - This was a very comfy butt n Ben for us to explore Skye from. Margaret is a very warm and welcoming host.
- Eric (8/5): Spacious chalet with a beautiful view close to Portree - Beautiful view of Skye
Spacious with a separate kitchen
Refrigerator stocked for breakfast
Nice hot shower
Smart TV
In walking distance of Portree (10-15 min)
Host gave us a ride to Portree on departure, very thoughtful WiFi problems, to be expected in a remote location
Host tried to solve problem, to no avail
Bed could be more comfortable, okay for a couple days
