Guest Reviews
- Roman (1/5): SCAM hotel who publish 3 euros deal and wants to charge you more upon arrival - The hotel is a total scam. They publish a fake price (3 euros) and then start to write to you in PM that you need to pay more.
Something like "if you come on your own, you should pay 20 eur more, if you order a transfer from us (a jeep for 60 eur per person) - you don't need to pay extra.
20 eur dinner, 10 eur breakfast, etc."
Moreover, they do not provide a location, trying to make you pay for a "transfer" (10-minute jeep tour vs 1 hour walking).
The place on Google.com is correct, and I came on my own, just with a backpack.
When I showed the reservation for 3 euros, the manager asked whether I would like to order dinner/breakfast for 20/10 euros, and, after my polite refusal, he pretended that he didn't speak English (he was busy with a couple of more wealthy tourists). He consulted with someone via WhatsApp and said I am in the wrong camp (although it was absolutely the correct place and camp).
There are plenty of accommodations such as this in the Merzouga desert.
Scam property (Majestic Mirage camp) is still listed on the website and Booking.com didn't offer me any compensation for suffering in desert at night, after 3 months of writing and calling them (spent lots of hours) I simply got the message:
"Thank you ... We hope you are doing well ... our sincere apologies for the inconvenience you experienced, and we fully understand how stressful and challenging unexpected changes to a reservation can be.
... we would like to inform you that the price for this reservation was incorrectly loaded by the property. As a result, the reservation was cancelled free of charge...
As the total reservation amount was EUR 3, we regret to inform you that we are unable to offer any additional compensation in this case. Please accept our sincere apologies for any inconvenience or disappointment this information may cause.
Thank you for your understanding and patience. ...
Kind regards,
Tarun G.
- Jakub (1/5): - Nothing. Guys! Warning!
I booked a tent and received an email confirmation. As a backpacker, I travel cheaply and look for bargains. €3 including breakfast was very tempting. I walked two hours to my tent, through the desert. Upon arrival, it turned out no one was waiting for me, and the employee had never heard of such a camp. He told me to wait until the owner arrived. After an hour, he showed up. He said someone was impersonating the camp and he didn't know anyone, despite the good reviews. He offered to let me stay, but the price was too high (I didn't want lunch or dinner). After several calls, the owner of the fake camp called back and said he didn't live in Morocco and that I should inform him before arriving, saying that confirming an accommodation doesn't guarantee a confirmation. Crazy. He said he'd specifically set that price to encourage people to buy, and that you MUST buy food, camel rides, etc., once you're there. His booking.com website doesn't have this information anywhere. I've slept in about 100 places around the world with Booking.com and never encountered anything like this. So after an exchange, I walked back to Merzug, 36°C—you know how it is. Zero help, no responsibility, and even aggressive behavior. That's why I'm here. On the way, I met the owner of a real camp and he drove me back to town for free. The only good news is that there are a few such cheap offers on Booking.com, but most of them are fakes because the camps either don't exist or the owner is trying to overcharge. Check their location on Google Maps and you'll see there's nothing there—just sand.
- Carlos (10/5): A Magical Desert Experience! - The owner, Hamid, was incredibly kind and helpful, going out of his way to make my stay perfect. He helped arrange both a camel trip and a Jeep tour, which allowed me to explore the breathtaking desert landscape in the best possible way. Everything was well organized and exceeded my expectations.
The food was another highlight—delicious and flavorful, with authentic Moroccan dishes that added to the entire experience. Every meal was a delight.
I wholeheartedly recommend this place to anyone looking for an authentic, yet luxurious, desert getaway. I can’t wait to go back! everything was the way I wanted , the weather was cloudy, but around 6 am the view of the stars was cool.
- Alain (10/5): Amazing and incredible experience! - Everything was just perfect! The host was so welcoming and nice. The experience in the desert was just incredible. I won’t forget it! You can trust him without a doubt! Thank you for everything! Absolutely nothing!
- Emily (10/5): Exceptional - This place is absolutely amazing, and Hamid, the owner, is wonderful. It's right on the edge of the desert, offering a cozy and well-equipped stay. if you visit Merzouga I highly recommend this camp and also the best option to get there is to ride the camel , staying in this place it’s a one-of-a-kind experience. the tent was clean and the dinner and breakfast was delicious .
Hamid is full of fascinating stories about Berber culture and goes out of his way to help with anything you need. Staying here was the best part of my trip to Morocco.
thank you so much Hamid and your team for the best hospitality everything was perfect
