Guest Reviews
- lea (10/5): - A very charming and authentic experience with the best of food and service.
- Michael (9/5): A very pleasant rural retreat with excellent accommodation a little too far off the beaten track for us. - A well presented and maintained property that has charm and comfort. Our room was comfortable, clean and well equipped. A beautiful setting out in the countryside which would be perfect for those seeking solitude and peace. The host provided a lovely meal at additional cost which was a treat. For us a little too remote and difficult to find. The drive to it was fraught as we have a car with little under carriage clearance and this posed a bit of difficulty for us as much of the single track road had a central grass/ vegetation hump/ ridge which at times caught our exhaust system. It was much further from Skibbereen than I had realised when booking.

- davide antonio (10/5): - Struttura e camera pulite e belle!colazione davvero ottima!
- Larri (10/5): The Stone Barn is an absolute gem of a B&B, a secluded hideaway that is beautiful and the hosts are so warm and welc - The stone barn has been beautifully renovated with care and attention to detail, lots of character. The room (we had the upstairs) was spacious, the bed super comfortable and the bathroom well appointed.
Stuart and Karin are fantastic hosts, very welcoming and friendly and Stuart gave us great recommendations for places to visit during our stay.
Breakfast is great, lots of choice and all beautifully prepared. You have to eat dinner here too if you can, as the food is superb - all locally sourced produce, interesting menu and cooked to perfection. Nothing, we really enjoyed every aspect of our stay
- Anonymous (10/5): Beutiful , clean, cosy food is amazing - Beautiful property , very comfortable and clean. Stuart was an excellent host and a phenominal chef . The 7 course meal was the highlight of our stay and he tailored the menue to suit my Gluten Free needs...it was wow . Nothing
- Ann (10/5): Simply wonderful. - Loved everything about this property from the quiet secluded spot, to the friendliness of the owners, the beautiful house and cleanliness.
We had the tasting menu at this property and it was exceptional food and great value for money. Stuart was so accommodating with my dietary requests. Would highly recommend this property and we hope to go back one day. There wasnt one thing I could say I disliked.
- Michelle (9/5): A beautiful escape from busy lives!! - The ambience at the Stone Barn is lovely. You are surrounded by a gorgeous Irish wolfhound, birds chirping, cattle mewing, friendly cats and a busy community of hens who are fascinating to observe.
This is a beautiful country retreat and really ideal from those who are trying to switch off for a few days! The jacuzzi in the garden surrounded by apply trees was particularly enchanting too!
Stuart is an excellent chef and his food is full of heart and warm flavours. We looked forward to breakfast every morning!
Dinner is also available.
The Stone Barn is just a 10 minute drive from Baltimore where you can go on a whale watching trip with Nic Slocum. . . Unreal! The location means you are a little bit away from the beautiful town of Skibbereen! It’s fine if you are driving and one of you is happy on the Zero’s.
Taxi’s are available and Skibbereen Martin West Cork Cabs was exceptionally reliable for a trip into the town.
- Anne (8/5): C - We slept well. There was no locks on bedroom or bathroom doors. No key for front door.
- Jenny (9/5): Fab grub and worth the effort to get there. - Stuart is an amazing host and chef. Food was outstanding. Room and bed very comfortable It is indeed quite remote and tricky to find.
- Clare (9/5): Great stay in lovely location with fantastic breakfast - Beautiful location, great breakfast choice and fresh milk for tea plus bath robes Everything was great
- Finn (10/5): Very comfortable two night stay with very friendly hosts and great food. - Lovely B and B set in the west Cork countryside, with the added option of a tasting menu evening meal being served personally by the chef patron. Close to the town of Skibbereen, and within driving distance of other towns of the area and south Kerry. Area very good for walks and hiking.
- Amanda (10/5): Beyond expectation with incredible hosts Karin and Stuart. - Superbly situated for our trip. Accommodation was exemplary, we really enjoyed the hot tub. The fine dining and breakfast was exceptional. Nothing not to like
- Kay (10/5): Wonderful place to stay to relax, chill and enjoy great food. - We stayed in the mobile home, but also used the shared indoor space and it was wonderful. Comfortable, warm, and lovely views. We were made to feel very welcome and overall it was a very relaxing, chill place to stay. The food we had for breakfast was excellent. I would love to go back.
- Mairead (10/5): Amazing - Absolutely everything.. Absolutely nothing, perfect from the start of our to departure.
- Norman (10/5): Tranquil rural retreat for touring West Cork - A place with a strong character. Very well renovated barn next to the former farmhouse with two rooms in the main space. The location is remote and it is important to follow the advice you will get from the hosts about how to use sat nav to get there. Some miles down a narrow road, better characterized as a lane.
Convenient to Skibbereen and to Mizen Head, and a great touring base. Hosts could not have been kinder. Excellent breakfast, made to order at a time of your choosing. Stuart went to some trouble to find out what was open (we were very off season).
- Millie (10/5): Exceptional -
- Peter (10/5): Superb place to stay. - Stuart and Karen are wonderful hosts.
The Barn is spotless with excellent facilities.Bed was so comfortable. Beautifully quiet location.Matilda, the dog, was a star.
Stuarts cooking was faultless and his breakfasts cannot be beaten. Having to leave!!!
- Patrice (10/5): Exceptional -
- Leahy (9/5): Recommend - Beautifully converted stone cottage to a modern stay, great breakfast menu (including gluten free menu), spacious, comfortable bed, clean, lovely shower Conscious of sound travel with other guests staying directly under
- Nicky (7/5): Good -
- Jonathan (10/5): Counting down the days till I can stay again ! - This place is amazing, the decor and cleanliness, wonderful hosts, adorable animals outside, gorgeous spot and the food was out of this world!
- James (10/5): Great stay with fantastic breakfast. Would definitely stay again - Breakfast was exceptional and felt like home Didn’t get a key at night so trailer was left open
- Heffernan (3/5): Poor -
- Laia (10/5): The perfect cozy getaway - The breakfast included was wonderful, made with local products.
You could order as much or as little as you felt like, and made just for you.
We asked for dinner on the first night as we were arriving a little late, and the 6-course meal did not disappoint.
The place is superquiet and cozy, perfect for an autumn weekend.
- Liza (10/5): Irish welcome with Scandinavian flare! - A truly exceptional overnight experience. This is the type of rural idyll that all others should aspire to. Stuart and Karin’s combined talents have created a hidden gem. Having read other guests views I can thoroughly and completely support everyone of them. Stuart’s seven course optional dinner with something to die for and would be worth triple figure bill per head in a commercial setting. His skill acquired during his time cheffing in top quality Swedish restaurant in Stockholm shines through, but in a setting like your own dining room. Other wonderful additions to this piece of Tranquility is the hot tub under the stars and welcoming committee of animals also previously mentioned by other guests in their reviews. If you don’t book this year missing out. Having to leave….
- Carolyn (10/5): An amazing stay with friendly hosts, amazing food in rural setting. - I liked the quiet location, the comfort of our room, the amazing food and warm hospitality of our hosts.
- Richard (10/5): A jewel in west Cork. - We had a very enjoyable stay at this delightful property. Stuart and Karin were wonderful hosts. Dinner was amazing, as was breakfast. Looking forward to visiting again.
- Fortier (10/5): Exceptional - Everything. The hosts were expectional! Breakfast was amazing and dinner was mind blowing. The property was meticulously clean and the bed was really comfortable. And what a view from the hot tub. BOOK THIS PLACE. You will be so happy. Also, great recommendations for local activities from the hosts We loved everything
- Pamela (8/5): Almost perfect - Charming set up. Very comfortable bed. Lovely hot shower. Large bathroom. Pleasant hosts. Food was tasty. There was only one chair and bedroom was small. We could hear every movement of the other guests upstairs. Took us a while to warm to the host (turned out to be very nice - perhaps shy? A bit abrupt at first.) Would like to be offered more toast!
- Deborah (10/5): Exceptional -
- Madden (10/5): Exceptional -
- Elisa (9/5): Lovely little barn - the barn is lovely, we really enjoyed our stay here. breakfast is served in the main house, there are different choices. they also offer dinner as the place is quite far from anything else... nothing
- Ian (9/5): A lovely property. I would definitely recommend. - Beautiful property in a lovely secluded setting. Lovely room with a great breakfast. Hot tub and garden were an unexpected extra.
- Tom (10/5): Highly recommended! - The property is in a beautiful spot. Stuart is a fantastic host. The hot tub is a great addition and the dinner was one of the best meals we have had in a long time. Highly recommend!
- Elaine (9/5): Superb - The barn is a really lovely property with only 2 bedrooms and a shepherd's hut in the garden.
The owner offers a fixed price dinner in addition to bed and breakfast. This is very good cooking based on local ingredients. The location is about 4 miles from Skibbereen and really quite remote and difficult to find.
- Karl (10/5): My only regret about the Stone Barn is that we didn’t get to stay longer! 11 out of 10! - The location is truly out in the country. The views are fantastic and the accommodations were very spacious and cozy. Karin and Stuart are incredibly helpful and gracious hosts! We had great conversations and the breakfast was one of the best meals we had on our entire trip! We have nothing bad to say at all.
- Lianda (10/5): Nature getaway with amazing service and top comfort - Nature all around, nice people, amazing food. We had the best time! Nothing
- Simon (10/5): A good location with car to chill and explore surroundings in a mini adventure. - Peaceful and quiet. The Shepherds Hut was great fun. The breakfasts were very tasty and the hosts were relaxed and easygoing. Nothing.
- Cezary (10/5): Exceptional - The room was specious, and the bed was comfortable . The breakfast was delicious.Hosts so friendly, and their dog Matylda was amazing. We had great weather, so the hot tube was a great idea after a long day. We loved to be so close to nature. We liked everything :-)
- Maiwenn (10/5): Parfait ! - Everything was better than we hoped for. The location is great, in a quiet environment with great views on the mountains. The house is beautiful, spotless clean and the bed was very comfy. We felt at home right away, and Karin and Stuart were very kind hosts. We had a delicious diner and breakfast, the best in our stay in Ireland. And for the animal lovers, they have friendly cats and a cute little dog.
- Luka (10/5): Exceptional -
- Lucy (10/5): Karin & Stuart were very friendly and accommodating. The place was so clean and the breakfast was delicious !! - Very clean & lovely staff Nothing !
- Rebecca (10/5): Exceptional - We had a fabulous stay at Stone Barn. The room was spacious and very comfortable and the decor was gorgeous, everything was spotless from.the lounge area to the bedrooms and bathroom.
Stuart and Karin were great hosts, very friendly and accommodating, provided us with local taxis contacts and served us up a top class breakfast 👏
The had a beautiful wolfhound (Matilda), cats and hens all floating about too which as animal lovers we were happy to see. Matilda was eager to greet her guests and even jumped into our car, unfortunately we couldn't bring her home with us.
We will definitely be back! No complaints 10/10
- Leah (10/5): Best friends road trip to West Cork - The accommodation was spotlessly clean and brand new. Great character in some of the architectural features. Stuart & Karin were great hosts. The 5 cats & 1 dog were an added bonus. The food, both dinner & breakfast were exceptional. Extremely high quality.
Using the hottub in the rain was a fun experience.
- Elizabeth (10/5): Exceptional stay. - We loved everything about the property , the accommodation which was very clean, modern and comfortable, the hosts who were friendly and welcoming, the location which was in the middle of the peaceful and picturesque countryside and so calm. The food was exceptional, all prepared by Stuart who is a chef. We enjoyed an extremely reasonable, delicious meal with local or homegrown ingredients. Breakfast was also fantastic. We have travelled the world but can't remember a meal that we have enjoyed more. Bravo! Nothing. It was perfect. Stuart and Karin were perfect hosts.
- Veriko (10/5): Amazing!!!! - I found Stone Barn via booking.com I was on a road trip with my brother and we stayed at Stone Barn on the first night of our trip. Amazing location, so serene and quiet. Hosts are superb, very friendly and welcoming. They have cute cats as well :) property was really clean and it’s been recently renovated. I also loved the simple design, white and other muted colours are very relaxing and calming. Really good WiFi connection too. Finally, the greatest thing in the morning was the home cooked breakfast, home made bread, their own eggs, and good coffee…always appreciate that! If I ever in the area again, I’ll definitely stay there :)
- Paul (10/5): Exceptional - Everything was lovely rooms the food was amazing I would stay here again Everything was lovely
- Patricia (10/5): Wonderful stay in beautiful surroundings. - Beautifully restored stone barn, immaculately presented with amazing food. The 5 course dinner was a memorable affair! Morning in the outdoor hot tub was gorgeous! Road to Stone Barn very narrow - with grass in centre. Not the place to meet another car!
- Andy (9/5): Great location. Great cottage. Great People. Great food. What's not to like. - The property and it's location are excellent, if somewhat remote.
The staff go out off their way to ensure you have a relaxing stay.
Breakfast is outstanding and served with a smile and at a time to suit you.
The optional evening dinner would not be out of place at 'The Ivy' so be sure not to miss it!
In a long road trip around all of Ireland this was our absolute favourite and you shouldn't miss the chance as Stuart and Karin will ensure that you have a perfect stay. It's a little lost somewhere between being a hotel and a cottage and so there are a few little frustrations, such as no way to put milk in your tea in the bedroom (although there is a fridge downstairs) but no jug. So no things like milk or sugar are provided but if you bring them then there is nowhere to put them and no glasses, cutlery. Once the breakfast things are cleared away then you're left with nothing, which is a very minor gripe but over a few days becomes a niggle. If your booking is for 2 of you and you share the barn with another unknown couple then beware as there is only a curtain at the top of the stairs between you and them, and no locks on the doors...
- Giles (10/5): Exceptional -
- Sharon (10/5): Lovely stay , Stuart and Karin were perfect hosts . We had dinner with them in our first night , which was excellent, ab - Beautiful property, tucked away among the trees. Cosy and beautifully decorated. Nothing
- Patrick (10/5): Exceptional -
- Richard (10/5): Totally recommended - We had the upstairs room and it was fantastic. Wonderful rural location with superb customer service. Didn’t have dinner there but wish we had. Breakfast was really nice Absolutely nothing to dislike
- Claire (10/5): Exceptional - Unique experience, excellent breakfast, beautifully renovated cottage very welcoming hosts Lane to property very long and narrow grass growing in the centre and hedges extending to car in places. No signage,
Day light from the velux roof windows wakes you up early
- Christian (10/5): A remote jewel on the irish countryside - The hosts Stuart and Karin where welcoming and friendly. Prior to our visit Stuart gave us instructions which road to use which was really helpful, because it lies quite remotely. The dinner and the breakfast tasted amazing (Stuart is a former chef) and there was also a vegetarian/vegan option. The rooms were beautifully decorated and very comfortable and there was also a jacuzzi, which could be used. The 5 cats and the dog Matilda completed the wonderful experience there. nothing
- Rich (10/5): Fantastic night away in West Cork - We had a fantastic night at the Stone Barn - it's a stunning and beautiful place to stay. The food was incredible - we can't recommend the dinner enough and the breakfast was fantastic too.
- Angela (9/5): Comfortable Stay - The hosts were amazing and friendly. The bathroom was huge. The bed was comfortable. The breakfast was delicious.
Property was modern and clean. The location was in the middle of nowhere. We struggled to get through the narrow lanes with lots of brambles which scratched our car. Unfortunately we only got directions whilst travelling,(so we did not see them)even though we booked weeks and weeks prior. Would of been nice to have received them a lot earlier to enable us to plan route.
We also did not get the room we paid for as host said they overbooked, but we booked weeks and weeks prior. This was unfair we thought. They were apologetic and gave us a bottle of cava as an apology. The room we had was small, bathroom bigger( ground floor)but comfortable enough. Very modern and clean. The door however had no lock so we did not sleep too well because of this. We could hear people walking around upstairs too.
I would also have like more than one pillow. This is not a criticism, just a nice to have in our opinion.
Despite the above, the hosts made us very welcome and enjoyed our night of rest before a very busy next day.
I would not stay again, purely because of the location and the difficulty we had finding it. If this was anywhere else, we would definitely stay again.
- Ackroyd (10/5): Exceptional -
- Tom (9/5): Very comfortable stay with exceptional food and service - Beautifully converted old barn with excellent facilities and exceptional food It redefines “in the middle of nowhere “
- Philip (10/5): Perfect for people wishing peace & quiet - Self contained 2 en-suite rooms and good living space perfect for a family or 2 couples.
Fabulous breakfast and evening meal available if wanted. Not a ‘dislike’ at all but it is a little remote - 10 minutes into Skibbereen unless one drives like a local (5 minutes) or gets stuck behind a tractor. However Directions to find the place with best approach were really good and worth having from Stuart and Karin
- Marie (10/5): Very pleasant stay. I'd come again! - Spacious room and bathroom was very clean and modern. I had to top floor of the barn. The bathroom is across a little corridor. Breakfast was tasty and very well presented. The lounge/dining area is shared with an honesty bar if you fancy a drink. Dinner is provided also but I didn't have it on this occasion, but it's a great offering if you just wanted to relax for the night. Nice touch to have dressing gowns on the room! Thank you Stuart and Karin Hard enough to find as it's in a rural location but if you follow the instructions provided, it will bring you straight to the door.
Lovely gardens in a quiet area.
- Kelly (10/5): This is a 5 star B&B -I travel for work. When I return to Skibereen - this is where I will stay. - Bed Sheets- Shower- Bonus was Doggo Matilda, super friendly and well mannered.
- Austin (10/5): Exceptional - Amazing in every possible way
- Julia (7/5): Good - Stuart and Karin were very friendly and helpful. Lovely breakfast menu.
- Declan (10/5): Fantastic Stay! - Breakfast was amazing and the bed was very comfortable.
- Madison (10/5): Clean and cozy countryside stay - Clean, cozy, and comfortable stay. They also have some friendly outdoor cats if that’s a bonus for you like it was for us! It’s about 20-25 minutes from town, which is up to personal preference. It wasn’t a huge deal to us, we knew that was the case when we booked.
- Steve (10/5): Exceptional -
- Nicola (9/5): Superb - Fabulous B&B in beautiful, quiet countryside. Super comfy bed in lovely large bedroom (top floor). Large bathroom. Delicious breakfast with wide choice. Stuart will cook you a delicious dinner too. Very relaxed. Karin and Stuart will look after you very well. We stayed 4 nights and we'd stay again if we visit the area again. Grab a night or two here if it's free!
- Dorota (10/5): Perfect spot in the middle of nowhere - Cozy old stone barn renovated to perfection. Friendly hosts, great breakfast and five cats plus one dog made the stay unforgettable.
- Barbara (10/5): Beautiful location, cozy B&B with delicious food, perfect hosts. - Breakfast was amazing. Homemade butter! Delicious menu for gluten free spouse. He was delighted to have multiple choices on the menu. One road was a challenge, but it was a road that our hosts suggested that we NOT take and Google Maps sent us down it before we realized it. Our hosts even offered to help get us out of the ditch and washed the mud off the car afterward.
- Harrison (10/5): Exceptional -
- Éna (10/5): Brilliant rural getaway - We had the best time in The Stone Barn. The room was very comfortable, the bathroom very spacious, the food was delicious and the surroundings incredibly wholesome. The hot tub was an added bonus! A spot for animal lovers; home to 5 cats, a bustling chicken coup and Matilda, the gorgeous terrier-whippet cross. Thank you Stuart and Karin for your lovely hospitality.
- Brent (10/5): A hidden gem. Karin and Stuart and sweet animals were wonderful. - Charming and quaint. Hosts Stuart and Karin are delightful! Most amazing food ! If you stay here, be sure to plan for the dinner experience. Comfortable beds, extremely clean. Furniture in shared space could have been a bit more comfortable.
- Piotr (8/5): Very good -
- Christine (8/5): Relaxing and comfortable West Cork accommodation. Hosts were lovely! - Such a pretty and interesting newly restored cottage in West Cork. Really loved the decor and warm hospitality. We had such a relaxing stay and delicious homemade natural breakfast. It was a little tricky to find in the dark but once we knew the route it was fine.
- Dominyka (10/5): Exceptional - The hosts were very friendly and were attentive but also left you to your own devices. Breakfast was included and incredibly delicious. There were lots of nice touches, like the butter was home made, our breakfast was made vegetarian at our request, we got bathrobes for our stay, and the hosts offered advice on possible local activities. The animals were also wonderful, but hosts were conscious of guests with the pets. Overall, I could not recommend staying here enough. There was nothing we didn't like.
- Sue (9/5): Lovely. - Breakfast was lovely freshly cooked and home made granola
quiet in the countryside not too far from Skibbereen. If upstairs is occupied you could hear everything.

The breakfast is incredible, lots of options, delicious and very well presented. They also had some great suggestions for walks and places to go around the area. Thank you so much! We rented a car which was really handy, so I would suggest if you're staying there, to ensure you have a car to access.
- Brendan (10/5): Outstanding property with amazing attention to details, welcoming hosts, highly recommended. - Stunning building, beautifully restored and decorated. Warm and comfortable and peaceful. Superb breakfast, home grown eggs were delicious. Friendly, helpful hosts. It is a little remote and roads are narrow. But lots of lovely towns within 15 minute drive. Otherwise we couldn't fault this wonderful place.

- Maura (10/5): Fabulous, unique, welcoming, relaxing tranquility at its best - Fantastic character, tastefully restored old stone building, friendly welcoming host Stuart, breakfast was yummy, felt like a retreat, total getaway from it all, highly recommend A bit out of town which was no big deal for us. Narrow roads but follow directions given by hosts, & well worth every mile
- Moira (10/5): A very comfortable, easy stay and hosted by lovely people. - Karin and Stuart were great hosts with great attention to detail. The accommodation was exactly as seen in the photos beautiful, clean, fresh and very comfortable. The location is very remote which we loved but still near enough to surrounding towns and sights. The breakfast was excellent with eggs from Stuart and Karins hens and in house homemade butter. There was nothing we didn't like.

On our road trip through Ireland with 15 different accommodations, this was the best among all others. Everything was nice, clean, and modern. We liked the interior design. The hosts were very kind and helpful. The breakfast and the additional dinner, which we booked, was the best we had during our vacation. We will definitely come back! :) Nothing, everything was perfect! :)
- John (10/5): Haven of peace and abundance. - Everything was fantastic. Beautiful hideaway in West Cork. Super comfortable, absolutely spotless and great value. I was down on business so availed of the dinner option after a long drive. Stuart spoiled me with some of the nicest food I've had in a long time. Really beautifully cooked and presented using the very freshest local produce. Then a fab night's sleep in absolute peace and woke up to more of the same with a gorgeous breakfast handed up again in great style and with great choice. Would highly recommend. Not one thing to dislike.
