Guest Reviews
- Martin (5/5): All I can say is glad it was only for one night would definitely not go there again. - Very dusty toilet roll holder was hanging of had coffee pods but no machine to put them in and no milk which should have been supplied .
- Tom (7/5): - The room was very bright - blind let in lots of light
- Stuart (10/5): -
- Fiona (8/5): we would stay here again - We arrived early and had booked an early check in, however the rooms were not ready, but the staff were very efficient in being able to help us.
- Karlyn (8/5): -
- Alix (8/5): - Comfortable large bed and large room and bathroom. Great staff all evening. Stairway wasn't cleared so a little hazardous and shower needed descaling to improve water flow.
- Zoe (5/5): Friendly welcome and staff, room not up to standard but could easily be updated. - The staff were friendly, it was easy to park, the pub and restaurant were very nice. The room was warm and welcoming and a nice size. Whilst the room was warm and welcoming once inside it didn’t feel very clean. The radiator in the bathroom was yellowing, the pot on the sink had toothpaste stains on the bottom, the container for shower gel was empty. The carpet wasn’t carpet I wanted to walk on with bare feet.
The pillows on the bed were uncomfortable. There is lots of room for improvement and could easily be a really lovely room.
- Sarah (10/5): -
- Ashby (4/5): I think the star rating is exaggerated. - Location was good, staff pleasant.
The room is an old timber framed room with a bathroom up a couple of steps under a low opening. It wasn't clear that breakfast would consist of a basket in my room with packets of Rice crisps, nothing else on offer apart from a Croissant in cellophane, no butter or jam.
No comfy chair to sit in. Wifi didn't work in the room at all but did in the bar.
The music from the bar area was quite noisy.
The wiring and lighting was bit odd.
The extract fan in the bathroom didn't work and the window had no stay.
The bathroom door didn't shut.
- charles (8/5): Very relaxing - Located on the village green lovely room with a great view beding and bed very comfortable room and bathroom lovely and warm More hand rails lots of steep steps not a great breakfast poor continental change slightly when requested
- Brian (8/5): We had a good stay, the staff were excellent and the food was very good. Room was comfortable and clean. - All the staff were excellent very helpful and attentive especially Jordan and Mia who made a stay wonderful. Our room was a little noisy.
- Brian (10/5): Comfortable stay in an updated historic building with staff who went beyond the call of duty for us. - This historic pub and hotel is right in the centre of this beautiful Suffolk village. It reopened last year and now doubles as an upmarket burger restaurant. The building’s historic features have been preserved but with a rock-and-roll themed decor update. We did not dine there but asked if we could get a small plate of cheese on returning from a local event at 9.30pm. The kitchen had already closed but the chef was sitting at the bar after his shift and he volunteered to prepare that for us and brought out a huge helping of cheddar and chutney. This was very much appreciated and we of course bought him a drink.
Our room was spacious with quirky decor and a very large and comfortable bed. We knew it advance that breakfast at the George is limited to cereals with fresh milk (stored in a tiny table-top fridge in the room) so we brought along our own fresh fruit plus bread and butter. There is also a kettle and a coffee machine with teabags and capsules. No sugar to put in the coffee. Probably a one-off oversight.

- Ide (10/5): - Great location, friendly staff, nice garden, comfortable rooms with everything you need , the pub serves great food
- M. (5/5): A meagre place to sleep. - The staff was kind and helpful. And we needed a place to sleep in that location, so happy it is there. The shower did not work: temperature was far too hot, and just a trickle. (But it was a bath, so the solution was to fill the bath, which worked.)
The room was not clean. Sticky surfaces, lots of dust.
The breakfast, ready in the room, consisted of a croissant in plastic, milk and müsli.
The window blinds were old and could not be closed, so at night it's light.

- Paul (10/5): Just a lovely chilled out place to stay. Perfect - Just a really cool place to stay. Rooms were lovely. Staff went above and beyond. I wasn’t anything I didn’t like. I’d stay here again in a heartbeat.
- Simon (9/5): Superb -
- Philippa (6/5): Good location, simple accommodation, good evening meal. - Breakfast was basic. Evening meal bought as an extra was good. Staff were pleasant. Bed was comfortable. I couldn't get the shower to work easily, eventually the water became tepid. There wasn’t enough light to work at the table /shelf in the room, but that’s the same with most accommodation. The music from the bar was loud in my room however at 9pm everything turned off & it was peaceful.
- Clifford (5/5): light sleepers - friendly staff an good food we are light sleepers and the local church bell kept us awake through most of the night
- Roger (4/5): Disappointing - Large room and comfortable bed. Provision of fresh milk a good touch. Pub music switched off promptly. House burger was good. Toilet not clean - several months of grime under the loo seat and soiled pan. Are the cleaners trained?
Rooms were cold on a May day, especially the bathrooms
- Bev (10/5): Lovely stay - Lovely host room food
- Paul (10/5): Exceptional -
- Trevor (8/5): Very good -
- Colin (9/5): Relaxing, enjoyable and a must return! - Lovely room, stumbled upon steak night which was superb. Staff were professional, friendly and quite frankly faultless. Loved our stay x
- Damian (8/5): Very good - Friendly staff, comfortable room, nice evening meal No mugs for hot drinks. Bathroom mirror needed cleaning
- Lynne (7/5): Very accommodating and welcoming to us and our 3 little dogs. - Fantastic staff. The steep stairs were a bit of a problem as I have knee issues. Comfortable bed. Easy parking.
- Paul (8/5): Very good -
- Gareth (10/5): Exceptional - Clean room with everything you'd need from a Hotel and friendly staff. I would recommend the George.
- Diane (8/5): Great 1 night stop over - Really friendly staff and nice meal at reasonable price Couldn't figure out how to make a cup of tea using the coffee machine - capsule type. Stairs really steep with narrow steps.
- Bunney (8/5): Excellent value - Fantastic staff and food Bathroom had quite a few hairs in the bath and basin, and the bin had the previous occupants rubbish in. No butter or jam for the croissant.
- Stacey (7/5): Overall lovely pub, staff were fantastic - Love the style of the room! It was cold, couldn’t turn the heating up
- Malcolm (8/5): Very good -
- Phoebe (10/5): Beautiful room in a beautiful location - Fantastic stay, the room was huge and beautifully furnished with a lovely big bed! The extra facilities were lovely touches such as the nice coffee machine, extra toiletries, continental breakfast etc. The staff were very friendly and helpful with nothing being too much trouble. We were lucky to be staying on a night where they had live music in the bar which was fantastic, so great to see a pub full of locals and lots of people eating, drinking, dancing and having fun.
- Leanne (6/5): Pleasant - Location was perfect for what was needed. Nice pub. One of my colleagues stayed here and he explained that there was no hot water in his room in the am. He was also told there would be sugar and cereal in the room but there wasn't anything in the room to allow him to have any breakfast.
2 of my colleagues came here as they were working close by. Given the cost of the room, there wasn't much to offer.
- Paul (10/5): Welcoming, friendly and enjoyable experience! - The property set in a very attractive public house. A warm welcome with exceptional food from the menu served by delightful staff. I would highly recommend and definitely be returning! Nothing at all
- Louise (10/5): Excellent value for money, clean and very comfortable room. - Very comfortable room and spacious. Great size bathroom. Travelling alone I felt very safe in the accommodation. I also ate in the pub restaurant below. Excellent menu choice and fabulous variety of burgers. There was music playing but the volume was at a low level and did not disturb me. It also turns off by 11pm. Good tea and coffee corner with breakfast continental style provided in the bedroom. Good wifi connection. Excellent visit. Highly recommend. Friendly staff and in a fabulous village location. Absolutely nothing! I will stay again when passing through with my job.
