Guest Reviews
- KirstenS. ---

- Terri (10/5): Book it! You’re going to be amazed, well worth the cost. - Blew our expectations away! Gorgeous villas, amazing staff, outstanding property. They need a bench near the parking area so guests can wait for tour guides.
- Roger (10/5): - Beautiful location, the pictures don't do it justice. Clean. Really comfortable beds. Great options for food. Luis, who looks after the property, was very responsive and welcoming. Really well managed. Would definitely stay here again.
- Tina (10/5): A perfect place to stay while exploring everything San Ignacio has to offer. I can’t say enough great things about the - Such a beautiful property and the staff was top tier! A perfect place for relaxation after exploring the jungle. Absolutely nothing!
- Tiffany (10/5): - The villa was perfect with the best sunset views! Only that you can’t walk anywhere really but we knew this well in advance. We used a local taxi driver Mr G who was recommended by the villa and he was great!
- Luca (10/5): Everything perfect! - The view was amazing, the location is perfect and the hosts are so friendly! -
- Brenda (10/5): - We had our own little corner of paradise. Comfy bed, delicious coffee, spectacular view!
- Colin (10/5): Outstanding. Nothing was spared to make it a comfortable as possible for the guests. - Great view, wonderful room and nice pool and bbq area. Zero
- Tamura (10/5): Private Villa in the jungle - Amazing, private location. Super clean and well maintained facilities. Excellent communication from hosts. Absolutely nothing!
- Helen (9/5): Wonderful Villa - What a lovely villa. Great view. Comfortable big bed. Absolutely everything you could think of to make it home from home. Friendly helpful staff The property is a 10 minute drive from anywhere up a steep hill. No problem if you have a car but otherwise a taxi ride away. However all the trips picked us up and dropped us off for free.
- Melissa (9/5): -
- Dawn (10/5): A lovely Villa close to Santa Elena and San Ignacio - We loved this place. The kitchen was better equipped than most houses! There was a filtered water tap right in the room (the only place we encountered with that feature!), the dining area was very large and lovely, the views were to die for, the pool was steps away from our back door, there were trees everywhere around the room and therefore an amazing amount of birds to listen to and watch in the mornings, the concierge Luis is a gem and was super helpful and friendly, and the owners were engaging and personable. We will definitely return to this lovely place. We removed the foam topper on the mattress as it was too soft for us. The mattress beneath was super firm (perfect) and we were thankful that the topper was not fully attached/sewn on. That seriously is the ONLY thing we can say that is negative, and some folks may like the soft topper.
- joanne (10/5): Our experience in San Ignacio was extraordinary ! Grateful for the dedicated staff and tour guides! - This accommodation was like coming to my own home. The views from every cabin were magnificent ! Every last detail was taken care of. The fresh flowers, coffee, tea and condiments, extra pillows and blankets, sharp knives and cutting boards, pool towels and even a yoga mat ! Ordering food to cook in your cabin was easy and delicious and reasonably priced. The gardens and pool were immaculate and the workout room/gym was clean and well-equipped. The recommendations given to use Belize Caving Expeditions was perfect. We did 3 different activities with them and it was extremely topnotch and informative. If you value quality, privacy and spectacular service , this is the place. Luis, was extraordinary, it seemed like he took care of us 24/7. Thank you to all the staff and the owners, you are truly customer service oriented and we appreciate it ! This is not a critique on the owners since they have no control over the taxi drivers. We found that the taxi drivers were not as efficient as were hoping. When we were in town and needed a ride back to the hotel, 2 of them actually went to the hotel to pick us up after I had told them we were at a restaurant in town. I felt sorry about the misunderstanding but it was written in a text message and should have been noticed.
- Ingrid (10/5): Fantastisch - Fijn hotel in het prachtige Cayo district. Oase van rust. Prachtig uitzicht. Schoon, elke dag housekeeping dus een opgeruimde kamer en opgemaakt bed. Zeer vriendelijk gasgericht personeel. Wij verbleven in huisje vier, hadden veel privacy. Goed bed, complete keuken, ruime badkamer.
- Robert (10/5): Relaxing stay on a mountaintop in Belize - This property is thoughtfully prepared, expertly landscaped and commands a beautiful view of the surrounding area. The staff was very friendly and helpful. The room was clean and beautifully furnished.
The infinity pool was a lovely way to relax at the end of the day.
Mr G was our reliable cab driver during our stay, driving us to dinner, Saturday market and the Xunantunich ruins.
Our best adventure was a guided tour of the ATM cave through Belize Caving Expeditions which Luis arranged for us. Francisco was our cave guide. He was excellent and quite knowledgeable.
We would stay at Villa Cayo again The bed was a little soft for us
- Ted (10/5): Exceeded our expectations and would definitely return to stay here again. - Enjoyed the cook-your-own meal options. The charcuterie breakfast board was very good and came with 4 uncooked eggs, sausages, bread for toasting, butter, jams, refried beans and a generous size bowl of fresh fruits. You can also order lunch & dinner menu meals to cook. We had a nice gas outdoor grill if needed. The full size kitchen was stocked with cooking utensils, coffee pot (& coffee), pans, dishes, etc & made prep easy! It was relaxing to eat at our own kitchen table in the mornings. Perfect for 2 people. Kitchen also included filtered drinking water. The bathroom was top quality, great lighting, with beautiful shower, plenty of hot water. The room was very comfortable & stocked with everything you may need, air-conditioning easy to control & there is also a wall TV. Internet quality was exellent. We had a beautiful area to sit outside in the evenings to watch nice sunsets and the views over the mountains were gorgeous! You will hear & see many birds on the property to include parrots and toucans in the mornings. The property is meticulously groomed with blooming flowered bushes, trees & plants. Everything exceeded our expectations & the cost was excellent for the quality. Safety & privacy was no issue. There are other restaurants nearby that are listed for you in the room when you check in & the city is a short drive away. There was really nothing we did not like.
- Nicole (10/5): Etraordinaire - Emplacement enchanteur, vue époustouflante, équipements haut de gamme, personnel serviable et d’une grande gentillesse. Peut-être trop de chiens(5)
- Mallory (10/5): Amazing, jungle villa. - These villas were amazing. We like to cook and the villa had everything we needed. The views from the villa were spectacular. It felt like we were staying in the jungle. There was no lime squeezer.
- Brian (10/5): - Villa Cayo was stunning and the staff were amazing. We will definitely be back!
- Jelena (9/5): -
- Mark (10/5): -
- Deb Correia (10/5): Heavenly property! - We loved everything about this fantastic property. The staff were friendly and thorough. The grounds and villas are meticulously cared for. The owners are lovely. I'd definitely suggest that it's better here with a car. We booked numerous tours during our 7-night stay, and it was nice to get back and be able to drive into town for dinner. It was nice to have chairs and a table in the grass outside our villa where we could watch the sunset or read a book. The owners have numerous elderly rescue dogs that bark a lot. Not a big deal to us, but if you aren't a dog lover it could be bothersome. We couldn't hear them from our villa, only at the pool.
- Fatoumata B (9/5): -
- Eliza (10/5): -
- Kelly (10/5): A serene jungle escape! - Villa Cayo is absolutely stunning. The location is beautiful and peaceful, with killer views that make you stop and just take it all in. The floor-to-ceiling windows are a huge highlight you're surrounded by the scenery the entire time, whether you're relaxing inside or waking up in the morning. Drinking coffee on the terrace while bird watching was one of our favorite parts of the stay. We saw motmots and toucanets right from the villa, which was incredible. Luis was also so helpful and welcoming, which made the experience even better. It felt private, serene, and like a true escape. We loved every minute and would absolutely stay here again.
- Miriam (8/5): -
- Erin (10/5): Villas with views - Villa Cayo was great! The property is well maintained, the villas are cozy, clean, and modern with floor to ceiling windows and views into the surrounding forest. We saw several cool birds and lizards around the property and got to listen to the hum of the jungle at night.
Luis and the rest of the staff were great!
The property is a bit outside of San Ignacio. You can get to town via the local bus, a $10 taxi ride, or a 30min walk along the highway down the hill.
Would absolutely recommend this spot! N/A
Niets
- SINGH (10/5): Beautiful jungle stay - Loved the views and the clean space with everything you need to have a comfortable stay. Na
- Kazeem (10/5): -
- Marlene (10/5): Villa Cayo felt like home away from home! - Virginia, Ken, and Luis were exceptional hosts! We enjoyed being up on a hill with a breeze and a sparkling pool. It was private with gorgeous views of the hills. A great location with only a 10-minute drive into town. We would for sure stay here again!
- Sierra (10/5): We loved the incredible views, over-the-top hospitality, and incredibly private, comfortable villa. - Being able to order breakfast to make yourself in your room was incredibly helpful. Some days--we were being picked up at the villas at 8AM for excursions and it was really nice to have everything we needed in the room to cook ourselves a hearty, filling breakfast before a long day of events. The information booklet in the room is quite helpful.
We also had our laundry done one day and it was folded so nicely when we got back from our day, and some items had even been hung to prevent wrinkles. The staff really showed hospitality in more ways than I can recall. Everything was incredible!!!
- Manil (9/5): Very comfortable and lovely stay - Loved everything about this place , location and the apartment itself . I would say one thing at night coming up the driveway could be dangerous. Also if two cars don’t fit in, it leads to backing up on a very narrow hilly driveway.
- Catherine (10/5): Exceptional -
- Deady-drapeau (10/5): 100/10…. Spot on perfect stay! - We were greeted by Virginia, her friendly pups and 2 toucans upon arrival. The property is a 10/10. The view is stunning and sunsets are a must nightly. We stayed in cabin 4 and it was absolutely perfect! Literally spotless! The air conditioning was perfect and the cabin had every amenity possible. The infinity pool was fabulous for afternoon dips to cool off and the chair floats were an added bonus. Please come stay with Virginia and Ken! If you don’t you are honestly missing out!
- Doreen (10/5): Exceptional -
- Karen (10/5): Exceptional -
- Swapna (10/5): The villas were well worth it! The location, the comfort and the kind folks - everything is amazing! - The birds and the sunset views! Nothing much to complain about!
- Robbins (10/5): Exceptional -
- Lina (10/5): Amazing!! Wish we had more nights there. - The owner and staff were amazing! The location is remote and has great forest and wild life and is less than 10 mins from San Ignacio center. The villas are modern and very clean and comfortable. The dark sky there if you are into stargazing is amazing! Highly recommend it! Honestly, the owner thought of her guests and any convenience you think of, it is there, like water pitcher and glasses in the fridge.
- Morgan (9/5): Great hidden gem in the jungle! - The staff were very accommodating and the view was spectacular. Close to town, but still like a world away. The website does not do this retreat justice. Way above our expectations and wished we booked a longer stay. The bed was the one Achilles heel. Though there was a topper, it was way too soft, like sleeping on a marshmallow. Not enough of a turn off to keep us from staying there again though!
- Rituraj (9/5): Wonderful stay, great hosts! - Very peaceful property with loads of amenities including a nice infinity pool.
Virginia and Kenny were very kind hosts who put up with many of our requests. Thank you for a wonderful stay ❤️
- Hollylp (10/5): Exceptional -
- Jennifer (10/5): Our favourite spot in Belize. - The sunsets at Villa Cayo must be among the best in the country. The grounds are stunning and very secluded, I highly recommend having a vehicle if you plan to stay here. The pictures don’t do this place justice, it’s spectacular. It would have been nice to have been given a heads up for the planned power outage so we could have better prepared for our travel day.
- Elaine (10/5): A unique setting, high up the hill. Lovely, beautifully decorated, comfortable room with kitchen. - A beautiful room overlooking the pool and lush jungle surroundings. Very comfortable. Loved being awoken by two parrots briefly tapping on the windows.
- Kathleen (10/5): Exceptional - We loved this place. The room was just right for two. The kitchen had all that we needed to cook dinner the three nights we were there. Not too far from town. The road noise during the day. But you should not be spending too much time during the day there. So.much to see
- Steven (10/5): Absolutely one of the best locations I have ever stayed. - Wow. An extraordinary location in the hills above San Ignacio, away from the town noise and congestion, but a thirty minute walk or ten minute taxi ride to the center. Quiet, except for occasional dog barking, and so beautiful. We loved the villa and all the amenities. Everything we needed was provided. The room was spotless. Would gladly stay again. The mattress was softer than I prefer, but I got excellent sleep despite that. The shower vacillated between warmish to hot.
- Brett (10/5): Loved it and highly recommend it - Quiet and very well kept. Virginia and Louis were a great help in organizing things Nothing
- Melissa (8/5): Lovely! would stay again. Great location - fabulous location high up with great views and wonderful bird watching a pool- it was so hot we had to keep coming inside for aircon. However we know the place is planning a pool and that will make irt super :)
- Julia (10/5): Amazing place to stay if you are good with dogs - We had the Deluxe Villa with the 139m² and it was amazing - it is a rooftop villa with external showers and outdoor kitchen, the view was just amazing and the pool (just built, brand new, gorgeous) just two stories below us! Location is very good, a little outside of the city. There is a room service available every day and it is very clean and you have everything needed (including coffee, sugar, salt, pepper and a lot of utensils). Some of the windows were hard to lock and we needed several retries. Also, if you are afraid of dogs, it might be better to stay in some of the other villas as the owners are living in the main villa below the one we rented and they have multiple dogs. They are friendly but they bark a lot and can be loud and intimidating at times.
- Margaret (10/5): Exceeded our expectations! We got to see so much of San Ignacio! We had a wonderful time! - The views are amazing! The villas were clean and well equipped. The staff was efficient and helpful. It was a tad farther from town than we thought, but worth it!
- Scott (10/5): Exceptional - Beautiful property in the mountains - peaceful. The staff was incredible. Luis arranged our tours and transportation. He was super responsive to questions and was a pleasure to work with.
- Lindsey (10/5): Exceptional -
- Gary (10/5): Will be staying again when we return to San Ignacio - Great place to stay with friendly hosts. Villa Cayo is only a few 3.5K from San Ignacio which is great for restaurants, shops and grocery stores. Located on a hill above the tree line gives you the jungle feel with great sunsets. A well maintained touch of paradise.
- Emma (10/5): Much nicer and cozier rooms than expected!! - The villa owners are the kindest people! When we had ants in our room (due to heavy rain so not the villa’s fault), they swiftly moved us to a new room. They also offered great tips and were overall very sweet.
- Christian (10/5): Loved Villa Cayo. We'll be back! - Especially beautiful location. Very comfortable and appealing accommodation.
- Jerry (9/5): Superb -
- Ross (10/5): Exceptional -
- Royce (10/5): A magical place. - The property was in the jungle! There were a pair of toucans that visited every morning. The staff was wonderful and friendly. Nothing
- Jennifer (10/5): Loved it - Fantastic location outside of the city. Could see the stars at night, and the sunrise/sunset. My cabana had a kitchen, amazing native wood throughout, and toucans that liked to knock on my window! The staff (especially Luis, Virginia, and Ken) were beyond supportive and kind. They made everything convenient and easy. I didn’t have a rental car and it was not a problem at all. Perfect place to stay.
- Julia (10/5): Affordable luxury - From the moment you pull, the owners make you feel like welcome guests. Amazing combination of comfort, privacy and scenic views. Having a full kitchen was a huge bonus for us (and the kitchen has all the equipment you need for cooking a meal). Virginia and Ken (the owners) are super hosts.
If we are ever back in San Ignacio area, we will not even look for a different accommodation, unless Villa Cayo is all booked out.
Highly recommend with one caveat - you need to be travelling with a car to fully enjoy your stay at Villa Cayo.
- Denis (10/5): Beautiful and well maintained Villas close to San Ignacio - Fantastic property sitting on the top of the hill about 3km from the center of San Ignacio. Well maintained, superbly clean, owners care about you as a customer. Very quiet setting in between many trees, ,yet close to the San Ignacio. Can't even begin to explain all the interior design made by the owner, custom doors, wooden table, cabinets; beautiful view from the bed into the woods every morning. 2 Aracari Toucans visiting us every morning and evening, sitting at the villa window and watching us. Owners building a large pool right in front of the villa that will become Pool Villa ... our preference are small villa tucked away from the future pool .., but I am sure many customers will enjoy this large pool.
- Jennifer (10/5): Stunning Stay at Villa Cayo! 10/10 Recommend! - Excellent stay in a stunning location. Beautifully constructed villas -- every detail was considered and we were extremely comfortable. The staff was dynamite, so friendly and willing/ready to make us as comfortable as possible. Daily maid service felt luxurious! Loved having a kitchen and gorgeous, stunning views from the hilltop. Really was a highlight of our trip to Belize, staying among the trees in such a peaceful and beautiful place. It's a bit far from town and not an easy walk due to lack of sidewalks on the roadway -- you'll want a vehicle or be prepared to spend on taxis to get to/from most places.
- Kathleen (10/5): This was an excellent place to stay. - The villa was immaculate and the views were spectacular. The full kitchen was a definite plus and the unit was tastefully decorated. We had everything we needed and thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The staff was friendly and accommodating. We will be booking again. We purchased the transportation package for $510 but with all the tour packages, transportation is factored into the cost, so you rarely use the transportation set up in the package deal. The cost is $120 to and from the airport and we only used the transportation provided on 5 occasions over a 10-day period ($20 round trip into town). If we didn’t have their transportation package, we would have saved $170.00. We made a trip to another town to pick up a cell phone that was left behind and were told it was not covered under the transportation plan, even though we hadn’t used it for several days. We ended up paying the extra $50 out of pocket. Just a heads-up to be sure you will be needing their transportation daily.
- Anonymous (9/5): Superb - Beautiful view and space. Lovely staff! Would stay again if I wanted a quiet retreat vibe.
- Seema (10/5): Exceptional - The hosts Virginia and Ken were very friendly. Edgar was extremely helpful with his knowledge of birds in the area. The property Villa 2 had a lovely view. Set up really well with full kitchen and room was immaculate. Highly recommend a stay here for anyone traveling to the area. The bed was double twins together which was a bit soft and left a hump in the middle. If they could switch one thing it would be that. Rest was wonderful.
- Peter (10/5): Beautiful room in a lovely garden setting surrounded by rainforest - Beautiful room with a sensational view over the rain forest. The owners and all the staff were super friendly and helpful without being intrusive. This was very good value. They have a lovely garden. It’s a 15 minute drive into San Ignacio so helpful to have a car or use a taxi
- Carolyn (7/5): Some pros but consider the cons before booking - 1) The views are absolutely incredible 2) the staff is incredibly nice 1) eating is an ongoing challenge. The hotel does not have a restaurant so after a long day of activities you either have to drive 20-25 minutes to a restaurant or cook something yourself at the hotel. The problem is that they only provide you salt and pepper so anything you’d like to make, other than pasta, will likely require a ton of additional ingredients. Cooking for yourself still requires a ten minute drive each way to a “supermarket” which by US standards is barely more than a gas station. 2) The rooms do not get to a comfortable temperature. Despite it being a “four star hotel”, they only have small wall ACs that can’t handle the room sizes they are trying to cool. It can reduce the overall temperature by at 2-3 degrees from the outside temp 3) The roads are not paved going up the hill so it will feel like a high risk adventure every drive.
- Anonymous (9/5): would and already have recommended Villa Cayo to others. was the best value I found during my vacation to Belize. - amazing staff and hosts. terrific location. incredibly helpful and accommodating from first consideration to forgotten luggage shipment. only two minor items that could have been better. no pool (but I knew that when booking). the second, was for an Alaskan such as myself, I felt the air conditioning unit might have been underpowered.
- Mila (10/5): Exceptional - Breakfast was great. Love the fresh fruit. Bugs crawling on the walls of the bathroom & on kitchen counter top & the kitchen wall, small holes in the walls.
- Ken (9/5): Beautiful scenic views with amazing hospitality - We stayed on the 3rd floor which was a great choice as it provided amazing views and breezy cool evening for star gazing. We heard howler monkeys on our first night stay. Couldn't see them, but we asked Virginia the next day what was all that commotion and she told us it was howler monkeys indeed. We did order breakfast one morning before our shuttle pick-up for the ATM Cave tour. We both had the breakfast burrito which was very tasty and the local seasonal fruit was amazing.
Thanks Luis for a wonderful breakfast.
Virginia was a wonderful host and we talked with her daily and she made calls for us to set up our day with drivers / guides that made our trip so special. I promise you'll never sleep on a more comfortable King bed then what we slept on and we were spoiled with having our room cleaned daily. We also used the private Villa Cayo shuttle service from the BZE airport and to the water taxi's in Belize before departing to San Pedro. Romell was our driver both ways and was the nicest driver anyone could ever expect. Villa Cayo has a fantastic location that it is not located in or close to the city of San Ignacio, but we knew that before we arrived. Since we didn't have a rental car we had to pay a taxi to reach restaurants and the market since walking could be very dangerous to town and back especially when dark.
- John (9/5): Superb - Great view
Convenient location
Nice hosts My room was out of propane when I arrived. But they had it filled as soon as they could.
- Fourintoga (10/5): Exceptional - We had a wonderful stay at Villa Cayo. Virginia, Ken, and their staff provided a beautiful hilltop retreat. They helped us book our daily excursions and you can order breakfasts to be delivered to your room before your outings. We were in Unit 3 and felt we had the small lawn and valley view to ourselves. We would not hesitate to recommend Villa Cayo to friends visiting San Ignacio.
- Richard (10/5): Place to stay in the Cayo - A great place to stay. Excellent in all aspects. No dislikes
- Nyenemo (10/5): Simplg amazing! Georgia and her husband sweet and amazing! - the property is on the top of a hill and oversees a green lush jungle. the pictures don’t do justice to view. Nothing
- Robert (10/5): We had a very relaxing stay with lots of day activities, mostly arranged by Virginia, the owner. - The view from both the villas and the roof top villa is exceptional. We stayed four nights in the roof top suite. When we decided to book our flight two days later than planned, Virginia was able to get us into one of her four villas detached from the main house. Both are excellent accommodations.
The owner is very accommodating at booking tours, arranging transportation to and from town, and providing a breakfast service.
You will be glad you made this choice. If you like your personal freedom to come and go with little notice, you may want a car rental. The hotel is too far from town to walk. No worries, if you don't have one as taxis are easy to get and their shuttle driver also will run taxi service when not working at the property.
- Kim (8/5): Beautiful location with wonderful landscaping and pleasant hosts. - high upon a hill with great vista A fair amount of ants inside Villa
- Maria (10/5): Beautiful room in beautiful location - Meticulously clean, modern facility and incredibly well stocked. Small details like RO water, coffee, sugar, as well as fill and plastic wrap made our stay so pleasant.
- Victoria (7/5): The great view might not be worth the price - The view was spectacular from the room, almost 360 view of the nature. We found the bed soft and comfortable. Though not right in town, it was a easy short drive into San Ignacio. It was not known to us that there were several dogs on the properly. They were all friendly after they calmed down but they met any visitor of the property with lots of barking. The +1,400 sq/ft room includes the outdoor patio which was three times the size of the room. The only shower for the room is outside.
This might be an everywhere thing in Belize, but we were waken either in the morning or from naps from lawn work on the property.
