Guest Reviews
- Jakob (10/5): - Such an amazing place. Waking up in the valley is incredible and the staff is super kind. Also the breakfast was really good
- Nathalie (9/5): - Prachtige plek om na je wandeltocht te verblijven of te starten. Het ligt al ver op de Valbone - Theth route! Heerlijk rustig tussen de bergen met schone faciliteiten en een vriendelijke familie.
- Ieva (10/5): - Lovely stay at a traditional mountain village house where you step out to the view of high peaks, crowing roosters and grazing horses. Very peaceful. It is basic, but clean and has a nice warm shower. It's situated right at the trailhead of Valbone-Theth hike, so you can get an early start ahead of other hikers. The breakfast at the cafe was delicious, prepared with local produce.
I came there when it was already dark and it was a bit difficult to find, so I went to the Emanueli cafe to ask for the directions and the son kindly walked me from there to the guesthouse. Note, that usually there will be no one to check you in at the guesthouse but you will find written instructions once you arrive. There is no wifi or cell service (at least from my provider) at the guesthouse. But there's good wifi at the cafe.

Leuke oude boerderij
Vriendelijk personeel eigenlijk niks!

- Katie (9/5): Lovely property with friendly hosts in a beautiful position. Great restaurant below as well. - A family run guesthouse with helpful and friendly owner. Great view from the balcony. Could have had a side light in bedroom
- Alexandra (8/5): Very good - Location and environment was excellent. Right at the start of the trek but also with a really exceptional atmosphere and view. Genuine family run home stay, with what may be the happiest ever chickens, goats, pigs. Homemade honey is excellent. Accommodation is everything you need, comfortable and clean, while basic. Food is also no frills but good quality and largely home grown and home made. Daughter speaks excellent English and the mother is very friendly. Excellent value for money and very pleasant.
- Anita (9/5): Superb -
- Bryson (9/5): Superb - The food at the restaurant was very nice and fresh, the maze was particularly good. The location was also great after a day of hiking and had amazing views It would be handy to take card payments
- Marina (10/5): Wonderful authentic experience - A perfect stop on the Valbona-Theth hike! The location is peaceful and remote, ideal for soaking in the beauty of the mountains. The house is idyllic, with a lovely bench outside where you can relax and take in the serene atmosphere. I had a mountain view right from our window, which made the stay even more special. The host was warm and welcoming, and the room was simple but very nice and comfortable. Both breakfast and dinner in the nearby cafe were absolutely delicious. As mentioned in the description, there is no WiFi but network connection was good. Highly recommended for anyone looking for a quiet, authentic experience in the Albanian Alps. there is no heating but an electric heater is provided. It was not a problem but something to keep in mind off season
- Laura (10/5): Beautiful secluded location with tasty food at the restaurant and friendly helpful staff. We stayed here before doing th - Location, food and staff were all super
- Linda (10/5): Take a break in this little paradise! - The location was absolutely exquisite. The views, the peace, the forest, the mountains, the gardens nearby, the horses, the lovely old traditional stone house , the enormous and delicious breakfast, the kind and hospitable hosts. It was one of the most beautiful locations I have ever stayed in in my life!!
- Mark (9/5): Superb - Such an amazing location. We were walking from Valbone to Theth and this was our overnight stop. Very peaceful and the owner also had a restaurant near by that provided food and drinks. Very hard to find. If you stay on the official Valbone to Theth trail you will eventually find signs to it.
- Julien (8/5): Super headstart on the way from Valbona to Theth ! - Well located on the way from Valbona to Theth. Gives you a head-start on the next day. Basic facilities but everything is there, plus hot shower and great views, no trekker would ask for more ;-) Too bad the restaurant for breakfast and dinner was 4-500 metres further on the path to Theth. Not an issue per se but worth knowing.
- Kaur (10/5): If you’re a hiker and enjoy serenity- this is for you! - Absolutely amazing. We had the whole stone house to ourselves and the whole territory is just pure serenity - the horses, the atmosphere and the views (!!!). In addition, each family member, who own also the tavern down the road where amazing and made us feel like home. Once in a lifetime accommodation after a long hike.
- Kara (2/5): Very poor - It looked to be a beautiful set up and they gave me a 3€ discount when I couldn’t make the stay They did not disclose that vehicles can’t reach the property. I arrived at alone at night and luckily my taxi driver stayed with me trying to find the property but we were a ways down a gravel 4WD track. He couldn’t make it any further so we called the guesthouse and they said it was a 1.5 hour walk or they could pick me up for 130€…. I would’ve been happy to walk in the daylight or with someone but having never been there and without a phone plan I didn’t want to risk it. I ended up staying in town and walked there the next day to pay for the night as they said I still owed them as it was late notice. SO be warned, you will need to walk into the property, great if you go in daylight and are hiking to theth the next day.
- Malou (10/5): It looked like a fairy tale - The guesthouse is at an idyllic place, it's calm, the view on the mountains is stunning and there are horses in the garden. The host is really friendly and uncomplicated.
- Rachel (7/5): Very basic accommodation but amazing location. Great to get a head start of the hike to Theth. - We chose it to be as close to the start of the trail to Theth as possible. We asked for a packed breakfast so we could leave early ( we left at 7 and we were at the top of the pass at 9.15). They were very accommodating and their son could speak English which helped. The restaurant is a 5 min walk from the accommodation.
The views and peace are amazing and we saw fireflies when it got dark. The horses just wandered about the front garden.
Best feature is the location and tranquility. It was hard to find. They man who drove us from the ferry looked at the address and told us it was in Theth. Only when he called the owner did he realise where it was and dropped us at the start of the trail in Valbona and we walked for a hour to find it. It's not well signed. We found the guest house but no one there. Then had to find their restaurant further along the trail and they took us back and showed us round.
Its very basic. And expensive for 2. But may be the same price for a group, I'm not sure.. Only chose it to get a head start on the hike the next day. Toilet worked, shower was just a dribble. No WiFi. Be sure you have all your info downloaded before you arrive.
- Ella (7/5): Nice stay - Simple accommodation, clean and comfortable Could not work out how to flush the toilet
- Rokas (9/5): Superb - Incredible location, insane views, very calm surroundings. True rural Albania.
Very kind host family, cheap and filling local food. Great spot to relax and get away from the crowds.
Good beds but don't expect anything fancy.
Far from Valbone itself, 1 hr walk. But it is a super beautiful walk. Pick up probably can be arranged.
Very close to the trailhead to Theth, so a great location if you want to be the first on the Valbone-Theth trail or doing some bigger hikes like Maja Jezerce. A bit confusing procedure to pay, would need more prior info.
Some access details missing.
Hair dryer would be good.
- Thomas (7/5): Good - The house is next to the real trailhead to Teth, so that's great! The hosts were friendly and the house was clean. We were the only guests (there are two rooms), and considering it's a solitary house in the mountains it's very quiet. It's quite pricey. The walls of the house are very thick, but there's no heating at all so it still feels quite cold. The restaurant is an open space so expect it to be chilly outside of Summer.
- Lorenzo (10/5): Exceptional - This is probably one the best stays during my Albania trip.
The guest house is a really tactical and good location as it's the last guest house on the valbona-theth trail.
This also makes it really beautiful as you are fully immersed in the middle of the mountains. It feels detached from the world and so relaxing.
The hosts are so nice and sweet. They stayed with me in the morning and gave me company until the rain ended and I could start the hike.
Food is also great. I had both breakfast and dinner.
Thanks for all!!! Nothing at all
- L (9/5): Superb - amazing place in middle of mountains
cery friendly staff
- Roderick (9/5): Beautiful, serene location to stay on the Valbona to Theth route. - This is such a nice place to stay in the Valbona valley - with much better views and much nicer surroundings that Valbona itself. It's a bit out of the way, but worth it, and an excellent place to start the hike to Theth from. The room is also very comfortable, with a bathroom with hot water. - Not many options for food around (but the owners have a cafe/restaurant where they serve dinner and breakfast from!)
- Anouk (7/5): Good - Would give a 10 for the location and the view. Very authentic, nice surroundings with local farms. Loved the quietness, with just some goats and cows grazing. Hosts are friendly and welcoming, their English is basic but still had some nice talks. The guesthouse itself needs some attention. It is pretty basic, which is not a problem for us, but it also did not look very clean. This made our stay less comfortable as we'd wish.
- Julie (8/5): Very good - Beautiful place in the middle of the mountain, lovely restaurant, great welcome. Well located to start the theth-valbone trail. Not the easiest place to find
- Brad (9/5): Lovely stay - This is a really special and beautiful place to stay all alone and peaceful in the mountains. There were horses and cows roaming on the property and you have an epic view of the lountains. The bed was super comfortable. The dinner was delicious and very big after a long day's hiking, breakfast was lovely too. No complaints.
- Vít (10/5): Exceptional - Awesome accomodation in a remote mountain village with an amazing views and surroundings. Host family was super nice and welcoming and even though their english is very basic, there was no problem with communication.
- Lucg (10/5): Stunning views on the trail from Valbona to Thet - The stunning setting is the main reason for coming to guesthouse Emanueli.
It's one of the last properties on the trail from Valbona to Thet, and from there only going up towards the pass. It's very convenient to get ahead on the trail. The place is rather rudimentary (beds and bathroom), but that's one of the reasons to visit.
- Marta (10/5): Exceptional - Location first of all. If you are hiking to Theth you are already on the trail. Surrounding is very peaceful with million dollar views. The hosts also run a cafe 5 minutes away.
- Bojana (10/5): Exceptional - Everything. The house is situated in the quiet village of Rragam near Valbona. It has an amazing view on the many peaks around. Traditional stone house which has a beautiful garden with trees and bench with table where you can sit and enjoy the views. The water in front of the guesthouse comes from the mountains directly. Everything is very clean, the beds are very comfortable and you can make yourself a coffee if you want. The owners also have a nice restaurant near where you can eat traditional and organic food which they produce. Nothing, everything was perfect.
- Suphang (7/5): Pleasant, lovely and kind family :) secluded and quiet location with panoramic view. - The daughter of the guesthouse owner was the kindest! She lent me her warm clothes when it was raining and she noticed I felt cold as I was only wearing shorts and tank top! The bar/cafe Emmanueli is about 10 mins short walk away from the guesthouse - wifi is only at bar/cafe. Guest house is located where you can see panoramic view of the mountains. Secluded, a short walk into Valbona-Theth hike, quiet, serene, very serene! Hot shower was working. Pitch black sky with no electricity lights around, you can see stars on the night sky! Very basic bedding, and bathroom, although hot shower was working quite well. But thats what you would be trading for, for an amazing location. No wifi at guesthouse - but that made my stay even more serene!
- Enno (10/5): Simple, but lovely!! - Simple, but lovely!!
- Jan (8/5): Very good - Great stop on the Theth-Valbona hike for those who want to do the back-and-forth in two days without descending all the way down to Valbona. The guesthouse and camping are completely off-the-beaten-track. A great family experience.
- Mihály (10/5): Exceptional - Guest House Emanueli is like a family's freed up cottage turned into a guesthouse. If you visit, keep in mind that from a "western european" perspective you'll be in the middle of nowhere (that's why you're going there, innit?). It's rural. The electric sockets are mostly for decorative purposes and your porch will be "guarded" by a cow and a herd of goats. But this is the charm of the place. This is why you must book here if you visit the Accursed Mountains. An honestly authentic stay.
- Ryan (10/5): Exceptional - If you have ever watched the sound of music or Heidi and want to feel what its like living on a small holding on the side of a mountain.... This is your place!
Very basic, spectacular location, home grown food.
- Ester (9/5): Superb - Beautifully location simple but efficient, friendly host, we loved the goats and the view in the large garden
- Gábor (10/5): Exceptional - Beautiful area, with a local family owning an important junction point, a mountain 'caffe-bar-restaurant', where the local horse-sherpas and the tourists meet before and after they go across the mountain pass.
The food was very decent, huge portions. Breakfast and dinner was more than enough for the whole day hiking!
- Lionel (7/5): Nice spot and great start point for the Valbona - Theth trek. - The view, the view.
We picked the accommodation because it's location is as near to the start of the Valbona - Theth trail as you can get. We walked 6km from the main Valbona valley area to get there but that meant we didn't have to include that 6km with our trek over the mountains to Theth.
The accommodation is very basic but clean and the beds are comfortable. There is hot water in the shower, but make sure the water heater is plugged in. The bathroom has been renovated and has plenty of space by some local standards.
Communication in English was adequate through the son and daughter of the owners who also work there. We didn't see much of the hosts because they were based at the Emanueli Restaurant and Bar which is about 500m along the track in the direction of Theth. When we were at the restaurant for dinner they were very friendly.
We set off very early on the trek so they packed a simple breakfast for us and we picked it up the night before departure.
There is a cute squirrel upstairs that sometimes makes an appearance. There was a great view outside but not many options to sit outside and appreciate it. The bench seat was comfortable but in the hot sun. The other chairs that could be moved outside were not particularly comfortable.
The restaurant is the only option for meals (at least 6km back to other options). Food at the restaurant (owned by the same people) was a mixed bag. My wife's chicken was great. The salads were fresh and crisp and tasty. My pork was so tough I didn't eat it.
It was reasonably expensive for the basic level of appointment offered. The proximity to the start of the trail is the only thing that might justify that expense. Other places further up the valley also have great views and at least one restaurant has fantastic food.
- Travellingdori (10/5): Local stay in the mountains - Location, views, people. The facilities are basic as to be expected but the hosts are very welcoming and adapting. Beautiful setting, decent food at night. The WiFi is through the host's hotspot so not constant and not very strong but it should not be a very important factor for anyone visiting the area. Nothing.
- Patti (9/5): Excellent homestay in the mountains. - This location is perfect for getting a jump on the Valbona to Theth hike, as it is about an hour and half from Valbona village. Therefore that portion of the hike is already done before you even start. The guest house is easy to find and set in a stunning little valley with incredible views of the Albanian Alps. The accommodations are basic, with shared bathroom with the family. The hosts speak only very basic English and we do not speak Albanian so communication was a bit of a challenge at times. The host was up at her cafe when we arrived, so check in was a bit of a challenge, but the neighbour got in contact with the host and she came and got us settled as soon as she knew we had arrived. We really valued this farm stay situation and enjoyed walking up to dinner behind the hostess and her milk cow, which she milked while we ate the home cooked meal. Breakfast consisted of a glass of that milk and homemade yoghurt, as well as her home baked bread, preserves and fresh vegetables and cheese. As our stay was in the 3rd week of September it was getting chilly in the mountains and although there was not a heater in the room the heavy comforters kept us plenty warm. Although the accommodation is rustic the incredible homestay experience was worth it. I wish we spoke Albanian so we could have enjoyed the experience even more!
- T.c. (8/5): Very good - Helpfull people
They were still building the place so is was very basic, but that was fine for me. The place is gorgeous in the quiet of the mountains.
- Petr (8/5): Very good - Good location for hike to the Theth or Jezerca. Nice bathroom. Good breakfast and staff. the owner could have communicated better
- Julia (8/5): Very good - Nicely situated, and close to the trail. Quiet area. Tasty dinner and breakfast included. We didn't get any towels.
- Matthias (10/5): Would stay again - Nice people, children can speak english
Could wash my filthy hiking clothes without extra charge
Food was basic but totally fine
Quiet A waste bin would be nice, the little one in the bathroom should be emptied when full
- Tim (5/5): Very easy and farm-likely accommodation, good for a first shortened day of the PoB-Trail - We slept in an old stone house with a stunning view on the mountains. We loved the homemade breakfast and the feeling to be on a farm with cows, goats, chicken, bees, dogs etc. It is located 7,5 km before Valbona which was perfect for us as we were walking the Peaks of the Balkans trail and could only start at 11 am in Theth as a result of the bus connection there. Having an accommodation after 10 / 11 km was perfect in this case. Contrary to the breakfast the dinner was not the best and not very much as well. Good to know, that there is no lunch-Paket for PoB-hiker. The accommodation itself is a room with 5 (?) beds, good enough to sleep there but not the best thing if you want to feel comfy.
- Johnkloos (10/5): Exceptional - What a great experience to be here! If you want live the local Albanian life go here! I slept at the house of this lovely family. Had dinner and breakfast from the land what they grown by their self. Its nice to be there in the mountains, competly out of the normal life.
- Amandasal (10/5): An albanian experience - Beautiful traditional place to stay at an outstanding placement. The girl who works there is really friendly and helpful. The breakfast is different and really good. The bathroom isn't completely clean.
- Rasmus (9/5): Superb -
