- Dalton (7/5): -
- Maria (9/5): -
- Dickinson (10/5): - Lovely hotel ,very welcoming hosts couldn't do enough for you ,perfect breakfast, the whole experience was fantastic
- Ian (9/5): -
- Christopher (9/5): Quirky hotel with lovely staff. - Great location and staff who really cared especially Donna. Great breakfast.
- Butler (8/5): -
- Footski (8/5): Like stepping back in time.....beautifully. - A well located hotel, like stepping back in time. Furnishings and panelling go back to the 19th century, making this hotel different from the norm. That said it is run by very friendly and helpful people and the breakfasts are quite simply excellent. Nothing.
- Wayne (8/5): -
- Michael (8/5): Great central location in Matlock Bath near to Heights of Abraham and some good walking areas. Giddy Edge is also worth - It’s a really quirky place- but with lots of atmosphere. What made it (other than some fine cooked breakfasts and a great range of options) was the cave at the back of the hotel which was fascinating. Thought it would be super noisy- especially as it’s right outside the main road through Matlock Bath- which is heaving in the daytime. However, the double glazed windows reduced much of it and the place is pretty quiet after 9pm. Room was a bit too warm when we arrived. If you don’t like Victorian quirky hotels, this may not suit, but we really enjoyed it.
- David (5/5): Felt sorry for the people who were running the show - No water in room no restaurant in evening no biscuits in room no robes
- Guest (9/5): - Friendly staff, great location and lovely Victorian building
- Griffiths (9/5): Excellent comfy and warm - Location and friendly hosts Stairs but they did move me down
- Ashley (10/5): -
- Vening (8/5): enjoyed - Received up grade to larger room as one available. This greatly improved stay.
Breakfast was excellent. The breakfast [one] staff did very well , but with at least 11 guests there was a delay in getting served.
- Claire (10/5): -
- Martin (6/5): - Staff very welcoming and attentive, great location, large breakfast Beds very small and uncomfortable, although breakfast copious, it wasn't very good
- Steven (7/5): - Room was comfortable Staff unavailable
Ran out of milk in the room and unable to get more.
Breakfast was a bit cold
- Andrea (3/5): - Location No staff on site apart from 1 person at breakfast doing everything - breakfast poor, not enough milk in room & nowhere to get any, didn't feel secure going back at night with no staff in property
- Janet (7/5): My stay - The helpful staff. Everywhere needed some fresh air. I didnt like the musty smell.
- You only live once (10/5): -
- Jo (8/5): -
- John (8/5): It was alright, no aircon though and it will be warm in the summer!! - Central location Stairs and doors!
- Michael (7/5): Comfortable stay - Friendly helpful staff, excellent location, clean room.
- Ellen (10/5): -
- Geoffrey (7/5): It met our purpose and the staff were excellent - Very helpful staff.very good food. Excellent location with quite a few things to do nearby. Steep hill to and from nearby car park. Only fish and chip restaurants near by but some very good ones 10 minutes in car. Noisy motor bike riders during day.
- Ashley (9/5): A very satisfactory stay in a hotel that reflects the charm of Matlock Bath and serves a great Breakfast. - The hotel offered all mod cons but with the decor and charm of bygone days with an excellent breakfast. The toilet flush was very noisy and the bathroom radiator too hot and not adjustable
- Karl (9/5): Hotel was right in the heart of Matlock Bath. The room was very quiet. - Nice full English breakfast. I would've liked a cereal before the full English breakfast and a glass of fresh orange juice. The shower cubicle was a little small.
- Jonathan (6/5): An unusual quaint Hotel centrally located in Matlock Bath. Exceptionally clean. - This is a quaint Victorian themed Hotel. Like stepping back in time. Comfortable very clean room. We enjoyed our stay - very central in Matlock Bath. I can see why the Hotel does not want to change much - but a few things could do with a gentle upgrade. Breakfast was chaotic - food ok, but no milk out for cereal and it was all hopelessly disorganised.
- Christine (4/5): Disappointing - a long journey with expectations of Quaint hotel in a run down shabby town. - Poor breakfast, no staff after book in. Bar shut restaurant shut. Stairs unsafe. Room cramped and dusty. Kettle not working, reported but bo action. No cleaning or fresh towels. Left a day . early.
- David (9/5): -
- Amandine (9/5): -
- Katie (10/5): - Being made to feel welcome and part of the family Shower cubicle was very tiny so i struggled to have a shower as there was no room to bend down and move to wash my body
- Pauline (10/5): - The quirky interior, excellent friendly staff, location. Would highly recommend N/A
- Andrew (9/5): - Fab stay. Rob was a great host Nothing
- Elizabeth (10/5): Really lovely thanks - The breakfast was brilliant and so accommodating to gluten free needs
- Chantelle (10/5): - Quirky, fantastic hotel!! So friendly and we even had a cheeky trip to the cave! Breakfast was superb, room was so comfy & the bath was amazing!
- Deborah (9/5): Fab-U-lous overnight stay in the centre of Matlock Bath - This hotel was quirky with historical artefacts and pictures of the past. There are caves within the hotel that the friendly proprietor showed to us-fantastic!
There are arm chairs in the large bedroom, the bed is extra comfy. Location in the centre of Matlock Bath is spot on. Excellent value for money. Breakfast was wonderful with quality items served. Nothing. We loved staying here.
- gemma tavner (9/5): - Very tasty breakfast and amazing decor through the house. Owner was friendly and very helpful. Being very very picky but if I had to say anything it would just be the room is quite dimly lit. But I loved the room and it's quirks overall and the lighting was very minor.
- Neil (8/5): Convenient location and reasonable value - Great location for hiking, parking available, breakfast included, 24 hour access, warm room. I could hear noisy guests in the room next door. The shower cubicle was tiny (like you might find in a caravan) and could feel claustrophobic for some people. There were a few cobwebs in the room, higher up but reachable.
- Bernadette (6/5): A pleasant stay in Matlock Bath. - We enjoyed our stay .The hotel is nicely situated in the town centre and near to Abraham Heights. It is a good base for some lovely walks. There wasn't really anything to totally dislike but the hotel is perhaps in need of some tlc. The room was comfy but needed a good dust.. The furnishings are a little dated and some could do with replacing. ( Bathroom, and light fittings. )
Soap/ hand wash should be in the bathroom. I had to ask and I was given some.
Rob was very obliging and the breakfast and steak meal was lovely. Limited menu though.. no deserts or starters ,although these were on the menu.
We did enjoy looking at the caves that run alongside the hotel.
- Jennifer (10/5): - Very relaxing, super comfortable bed, excellent breakfast, very friendly host
- Amparo (10/5): Una excelente estancia - La amabilidad de Rob es una super excelente persona En realidad todo nos gustó a mí marido y a mi
- White (10/5): Super snags! - Great spot to explore the Peak District. Great value. Great sausages. It snowed! 🤣
- kerry (5/5): - Chap running it now v friendly n helpful n doing everything himself. Been coming years. Price has increased but standards since Chris n Zoe sold it have dropped. Very Dusty, even in rooms. No flannels. Breakfast used to be 2 courses, with cafetiere n juice, a tablecloths, all v pretty. Now a fry up. Not real butter. Reception area cluttered. It's lost its magic. Very sorry about that, it was a special place.
Not fault of chap looking after it solo. Cost cutting n practicalities have bitten into it I think.
- james (8/5): Comfortable and friendly Hotel. Great for weekend break, old fashioned building. - Staff friendly and helpful, Hotel was fine for our needs. Some of the breakfast food was cold on my cooked breakfast.
- Ian (10/5): -
- Elizabeth (10/5): Very welcoming would definitely stay again breakfast was lovely shower was excellent and best nights sleep bed so comfor - All of it. N/A
- judith (7/5): Only one night and host very friendly and helpful. Some investment in the property would pay dividends. - Location was great but it would have been nice to know more about the history of the building when booking.
Bed and pillows really comfortable. Decor a bit dated. We had breakfast, food lovely, but no side plates for the toast or napkins, so needed more attention to detail
- Charmayne (10/5): Nice ...Cosy and great staff - Convenient and central with great parking Can't say I didn't like anything
- Brandon (10/5): Very cozy and comfortable - The hotel inside and out is stunning and the room exceeded our expectations, it was absolutely beautiful. The included breakfast was absolutely amazing as well very tasty and very high quality. The owners are very lovely people very inviting and approachable. Absolutely nothing everything was perfect.
- Evelyn (10/5): -
- Rosemary (7/5): Lovely locals - Right in the centre, lots of places to eat and drink right on the doorstep.
Breakfast was lovely and the staff work really hard. Very efficient and good quality food A little bit dated and the room was quite small
- John (6/5): - There was a wasp nest in the window sach so we were not able to have the window open very hot
- Keith (9/5): lovely Historic hotel, - good breakfast, good view from the room, run by a very friendly couple, best location in Matlock bath. the Hotel ( or at least the TV in my room ) only had the std terrestrial TV channels not even freeview. luckily we didn't mind that much as we were having a re-union and just needed comfy beds at the end of the day, the rest of the time we were out and about.
- Stephen (9/5): - The breakfast was superb and the location was close to everything
- Eve (10/5): - Owner was lovely and so accomodating, location is perfect- right on the main street. Parking was free, breakfast was INCREDIBLE, and I loved the hotel’s Victoriana aesthetic
- Andrea (10/5): We had a one night stay and felt very welcome. The two people who run the hotel are exceptionally friendly and very hosp - A quirky old property but exceptionally clean and very cosy! Excellent location.
- Lawrence (10/5): - Everything Nothing
- Caroline (10/5): Relaxing, idyllic thoroughly enjoyable. - Excellent choices at breakfast professionally cooked couldn't fault. Central location made it easily accessible for all attractions near or far. Having own car park was a massive bonus. Nothing.
- Claire (10/5): -
- Brian (10/5): -
- Susan (8/5): Nice room, friendly staff but too many stairs. - Room was very nice but up 3 flights of stairs not good for the elderly or infirm. Not so many stairs and thought it had a restaurant but it didn’t.
- Peter (9/5): The staff were exemplary - Breakfast & room
- Karl (10/5): - Great hosts felt comfy and kind friendly people Breakfast
- Roger (10/5): A great hotel for price, excellent staff would certainly stay again - The location of the hotel was spot on for my stay. The breakfast was excellent especially with a wide variety of options. I don't have any criticism of the hotel.
- Caryl (10/5): Exquisite unique place for a romantic getaway . - The hotel was quirky , a four poster bed and a victorian style claw bath with original fire places and beautiful victorian style decor with subtle modern facilities and comfort made this a perfect getaway. The superb breakfast and attentiveness of Neil and Sue was the cherry on the icing of the cake. We had only booked 2 nights.!
Next time we will book for longer.
- Calum (8/5): Would stay again - Quirky hotel, very comfortable. Parking a bit tricky
- David (10/5): - Great location
Parking in Matlock Bath a+
Breakfast fantastic Managers super helpful
- Helen (10/5): - Quirky hotel, loved it.
- JOHN (8/5): -
- Meakin (10/5): - Lovely friendly place, nothing is too much trouble Regret not staying longer
- Mark (10/5): - It's a very relaxing environment. The host gave us an impromtu tour of the tunnels behind the property. Very interesting place. Great breafast. We will go back in the new year, if we can.
- Rory (9/5): -
- Jan (9/5): Historically amazing and a warm stay - They went out of their way to make us feel welcome Location and history
- Andrew (9/5): Thoroughly recommend Rob’s excellent hotel. - It was a quirky Victorian style hotel. Rob was an excellent host, very welcoming and enthusiastic.
- Nolwenn (9/5): - Very friendly and relaxed atmosphere
- joseph (3/5): Dreadful - The view out of the window The room was cold, not clean, no teabags, remote didnt work, its the little things that matter, breakfast porridge was full of sugar (added by them) ran out of Sausages at breakfast, on arrival you had to stand outside and call a number, very dated decor with filthy carpets, recently taken on by new owner/landlord who obviously acquired the old 9.1 reviews, £167 wasted on very poor accommodation
- alex (10/5): -
- Nigel (8/5): Great location with clean, comfortable room. - Great location, clean, comfortable room.
- Nicola (9/5): -
- William (10/5): Excellent stay - Everything was to our liking will be staying here again for sure The host was exceptional
Oldie character building lots of stories loved it
- Rich (9/5): Wonderful - The new owners are wonderful hosts - extremely warm and welcoming. A charming hotel that is excellent value for money.
- paul (10/5): Amazing place - Amazing old lovely place , amazing character. Fantastic breakfast and amazing host and owner
- Deborah (8/5): -
- Sarah (3/5): Disappointing - Mould on the bathroom ceiling, no ventilation or extractor fan.
Uncomfortable mattress.
Dated decor.
Unmanned ‘hotel’ meant difficulty gaining entrance and no-one around on departure.
No evening meals.
Felt like it was being run on a shoestring. Certainly not worth £155 a night
- Palmer (10/5): - Verry nice would definitely go agaln
- Alan (9/5): - Excellent.
- Gareth (9/5): Lovely place and staff... except the sausage :) - Oldy worldy and something a bit different.
Staff were really friendly, Matlock Bath is beautiful and we will be back. Can't ever give a 10 as nowhere is perfect. I'm an expert of fry-ups and it was good. Not amazing. Menu said Lincolnwhire sausage but the long weird thing we was served was like a hotdog sausage. Too much black pudding but other than that was all good. We will be back.
- Gary (7/5): - Room was warm and cosy Not much atmosphere you would not think it was xmas as no deco up breakfast was ok didnt get what was requested on 2nd day and missed last day as they were not up
- Anna (10/5): - The hosts was friendly and nothing was to much trouble for them .
- william (7/5): Enjoyable with limitations as already mentioned - New owners took over three weeks ago and yet to achieve their targets Too soon to criticise new owners
- david (10/5): Fabulous, excellent location, parking super comfy bed and tasty breakfast and excellent host - Excellent location great parking beautiful breakfast Could be clearer on honesty bar as given the impression there was one went down for ice no one around
- Ben (10/5): -
- Nigel (9/5): - A perfect blend of historic charm and modern comfort right in the centre of Matlock Bath. Our spacious room, featuring traditional wooden beams, was clean, quiet, and very comfortable. The staff were exceptional, professional, and friendly, and the breakfast was excellent, featuring quality, locally sourced ingredients. Highly recommended for a superb weekend break!
- brian (9/5): Friendly quaint hotel with lovely staff - The hotel was in a great location and it was very quaint and traditional.
Staff were friendly and efficient .
Rob was very kind and helpful the breakfast was of a high standard and they were accommodating of choices .
I wish them every success. Nothing
- Caroline (8/5): Quirky hotel with good accommodation and food. - Lovely accommodation and we had a large room with 2 comfortable armchairs. The room was warm and faced onto the main street. Breakfast was delicious and there was plenty of it - all cooked and served by the owner who was very friendly. All in all, we had a pleasant stay and enjoyed the trip. Our only comment would be to mention the use of bathrobes. They were too small for us and probably a tad past their best. They weren't thick fluffy towelling robes, as one might expect. Parking was up a very steep hill, so not great for those with mobility problems, but there's not much the owner can do about that and at least a guaranteed, off street parking space was available. There's wasn't much not to like.
- Rishabh (9/5): -
- Keith (9/5): Highly recommend, will be back for another stay - Location is excellent, Rob and Hannah are very welcoming and were very helpful
- Anne (10/5): Fabulous in every way. I can't wait to go back. - Wonderful small hotel in a great location. Beautiful period features, quirky, warm and comfortable. Attentive and informative owners. Exceptional choice and quality at breakfast. Nothing.
