The receptionist was especially kind and friendly, and we truly appreciated the warm hospitality. We do have a few suggestions for improvement. Additionally, it would be great to avoid construction activities on weekend, as it was not very convenient to use the pool while work was happening nearby. Cleanliness in general could be further improved. We also felt that the birthday decoration package (RM150) was not quite worth it, as it only included balloons and a wording balloon. • Sukhvinder (7/5): I had expected more for the price charged. - The Shorea has been around for a number of years. With so many new homestays having popped up, the building is a little run down. The friendly staff made up for it. I also liked the fact that meals where served to the dining table in each room. 1. The whole property could do with a makeover to modernize its rooms, bathrooms etc. Also the menu could be better. My wife had requested for toasts for breakfast and she was served toasts without any butter or jam. 2. The people answering the phone or responding to WhatsApp messages should be trained to be customer centric considering you are charging premium prices for the stay. 3. The Management of the property should ask themselves if the amount charged is right for the service provided and why should one stay at The Shorea? There are many homestay in the vicinity and new ones being built.

I love the calmness in the mornings. The breakfast can be improved. Having same breakfast everyday is not appetizing. Simple cookware will complete the kitchen even more. By the way, it's time for some of the furniture to be re-furbished.

We couldn't go for the jungle trekking, no guide.. one of the reasons we picked this place was to go on the hike. 2. Bed bugs were so bad that I couldn't sleep the whole night, both my upper and lower limbs were bitten so badly. And the itchiness lasted a few days after despite antihistamines 3. At 1 am dogs came around the villa pushing things around and woke us up. Then at 3am till 430am, repeated banging on the kitchen door, not letting us sleep at all. Do not know what's the cause of the banging.
• Shamsul (7/5): Amazing place for a short getaway. - Swimming pool was clean and big. As we were the only guest there we had it all to ourselves. Villa was spacious. We had our meals at the patio with forest view which was amazing. The staffs were very helpful especially Mr Saiful and team. Room was not that clean. Water heater was not working. Looks like was not properly maintained. There were cobwebs in the bedroom. Bathroom bidet was also not working. There were no cupboards or even place to hang our clothes in the room.. With the price they charge, room should be in a better shape.
• Muhammad (5/5): Passable - A tired villa with a 5 star hotel price. Its our second time here in 6 years and both times at the Rafflesia. You can really see it age. Lets break this down into catergories with hopes that something can be done to restore its prestine glory. 1. Location & Atmosphere 4 out of 5 The good: A truly pleasant experience to cosy up in the middle of nature away from the bustling noise of city life. Cool breezes and fresh air! Could be better: One would expect a breathtaking views of the neighbouring mountain/hills (Which really is) but its all blocked by over grown trees so you end up feeling like you are surrounded by forest and miss the fact that you are on high ground. Google maps and waze directions provided works well but if you search manually for The Shorea it will show two other locations on google maps. The business listing needs to be fixed. 2. Architecture and Construct 3 out of 5 The good: The whole concept of a private duplex villa with a semi private pool with wooden decks and a modern contemporary design in the middle of lush greenery is the only reason the 3 stars are awarded. The bad: While the overall cleanliness is acceptable, there are many areas that really require attention if you intend to keep this place fresh and welcoming. The natural wood fixtures and furnishings are mostly weathered and look old and dull. They could really use a good sanding and relacquer. The staircase railing is shaky n loose. The wooden decks are not in best shape either with areas broken and loose, apart from looking so worn out. The sliding doors are also worn out and have to use man strength to lift and align properly in order to lock. The doors also swing loose from the stoppers and can be dangerous around children. The windows on the upper floor cannot be opened and for the ones that can open the bottom side has no safety railings especially for young children. The glass on the windows also were dirty on the inside.

• Khaywee (8/5): A nice getaway into nature near KL - The barbecue dinner was really good and the portion was generous. The staff were friendly too. Hot water was not hot and some of the room decor and taps were getting a bit worn out and old. WiFi at the resort is non existent.

I would say anything more than rm 300 for this place is not worth. Food was bad too. Do not get influence by pictures on social media.

And they gave me room upgrade since the kitchens were closed. The place looks abit run down. As the property is made up of wood and it has pool and stuff so it needs maintenance continuously. And also proper cleaning need to be done. The mosquito nets were full of dead insects. Bathroom still had hair strains from previous guests. And also I believe air cond is a basic in our tropical weather. And having a room for 500 a night without aircond is pretty ridiculous.

The owner should consider to repair the rooms. The maintenance is poor. The room door cannot locked. The breakfast is nasi lemak and the sambal is salty. I won't recommend this propety to anyone. Overall bad experience.

Bihun was great, nasi goreng was just ok. wish there are choices for juice and eggs. Place a bit rundown, bed are not well kept, kelambu is too low for some of the bed. Some curtains are missing in the room. Sofa need to be changed. Toilet can be better in terms of cleanliness.

The management should look into maintaining the resort especially having wooden amenities around water.. the wood has some decay which could potentially be a danger if not replaced or maintained.
• Gemma (2/5): Over-priced. Go elsewhere. - The food was excellent. They catered to vegan. They did get the order wrong on the final day though. It is poorly maintained and dirty. The sheets smelled of damp and were stained. The room/bathroom/kitchen were open to the elements. There was a lack of communication when we arrived and we had no idea of our bearings or how to find the staff. They made us order the meals for our entire stay in advance of arrival. Guests arrived on the final night and they had a party. When I messaged the staff they did not respond until the following day. There are other resorts in the same area that are not so expensive and offer at least the same experience, if not better. We really got the impression that this place over promises. Definitely would not go again.
