Guest Reviews
- Rosemary (9/5): A perfect house for our needs. - We were a party of 11, 3 generations ranging in age from 3 to 70 and this house had everything we needed. Plenty of space for us all, games for the little kids and kayaks for the big kids. We particularly liked the hot spa on the deck.
Anders the host was friendly and easily contactable. The kitchen cupboards could have been a little better organized!
- Clare (10/5): A Unique Escape in Norway with top-quality amenities, kayaking, and easy access to Bergen. - This lakeside house offers an unforgettable escape that leaves a lasting impression and we eagerly recommend to anyone seeking a less conventional getaway. We were a family of 4 but the house could accommodate a much larger group - there was a kitchen on the ground and upper level for instance. The house boasted an array of top-quality modern appliances, adding an extra touch of convenience and luxury. The amenities included state-of-the-art kitchen facilities to high-end entertainment system and fitness equipment. Our host Anders responded very quickly to any queries or requests and it was obvious that he really cared that that our visit was a success - he couldn't have done any more. One of the highlights was the fantastic opportunity for kayaking which the house provided (and other watersports). Exploring the quiet nooks and crannies of the (sea) lake/fjord and its islands was a tranquil and memorable experience. We loved that we could have a day trip, come back, kayak and then relax in the hot tub enjoying the phenomenal view. The house was in a convenient location and seemed a safe area with no traffic noise. Accessing the gorgeous city of Bergen was simple via a bus (about a 20 minute walk to stop) or by ordering a taxi. Grocery stores were also within walking or cycling distance. The (almost next door) Edvard Grieg Museum was true delight. Exploring the life and works of the legendary composer in such a picturesque setting was a memorable experience that left a lasting impression. The museum offers daily piano concerts which was an unexpected pleasure. Lastly, we cannot recommend the "Norway in a Nutshell" tour enough! This breath-taking journey by boat and train through Norway's stunning landscapes left us in awe. From majestic fjords to lush valleys, it was an extraordinary experience that allowed us to appreciate the country's natural beauty on a whole new level. The weather on the west coast of Norway is notoriously wet! We didn't let it spoil our fun but it might dampen some spirits. The house is in a large residential area, which is great for tranquillity, but not everything is at your doorstop and you should be proactive in finding amenities (would be easier if you had your own car).
Not a criticism of the house but was really disappointed that a country as cultured and, in other respects, animal welfare conscious as Norway would sell products (burgers and sausage) made from whale (in the Bryggen fish market and other touristy places). We were shocked that it is allowed, tolerated and also that so many tourists seemed keen to buy (even if they cannot be taken back to their own countries because of restrictions on these threatened creatures ).
