Guest Reviews
- Debora (3/5): - The owner is very kind, nice and helpful as a person. But he doesn't really seem to be very professional as a hotel owner, cause the building is old (as every other in old town Mardin, that's why a lot of care is needed) and there's very little maintenance put on it, if any. The room was bright and big but it looked nothing like the one I had booked on the app. We found the door open upon arrival and a lot of flies flying over the bed. It was hard to find the place but the owner was helpful and very fast in replying on WhatsApp. During the night, though, it's very hard to walk back because the street was very dark and a part of it was blocked by debris of a fallen building. Sadly we ended up paying without spending not even one night in the room cause my boyfriend has asthma and couldn't breath properly due to the poor air quality. There was deep black mold in the hallway towards the bathroom, not very human-friendly especially if you have existing health issues.
- Eliška (8/5): - Great location, spacious room, nice view from the terrace. Very helpful and accommodating owner, even after we got stuck in traffic and arrived later than presumed. Great communication. Tea was available. Parking our car nearby was very challenging and so was finding the right place. Cold water.
- Fardowza (6/5): My stay at this hotel was average. The room was generally clean and the location was convenient, but some aspects could -

- Bảo (10/5): - An ultra friendly owner guided me to his place. The location is great, easy parking on the road and few steps down to the hotel.
It’s a truely Mardin ancient house with unbeatable view to Syria. Could be cleaner

- Lizard (7/5): A welcome base to explore Mardin - Public transportation from the airport (Havaş bus) is cheap and fast. The location in the old city is quite central. There is a common terrace for all the guests with a sweeping view over the vast plain that leads to Syria (in certain conditions it looks like the sea). The room is spacious. If you're into that sort of thing, the space has a certain charm because it's over a thousand years old. The bed has a very comfortable firm mattress. There is reliable hot water with good pressure. The fridge was loaded with complimentary water bottles. There is a heater that works very well. There is a table. The owner is very welcoming and friendly. He responds quickly over WhatsApp. He provided me an electric kettle when I requested one and offered to help with logistics. He showed a personal interest and was always quick to smile and ready to help. The listing does not advertise free wifi, and indeed the free wifi available on the communal terrace doesn't reach the room -- buy an esim from mobimatter. I'm not a fan of bathrooms where the shower is right next to the toilet, especially when there's no curtain between the two (wet floor and toilet). The space didn't feel very clean. For instance, there was a 4-cm piece of broken off soap in a corner of the shower floor, suggesting it hadn't received a lot of attention. The synthetic down blanket under the bed smelled very dusty and definitely needs a wash and possibly a cover. If you're upset about the price of accommodation, that's Mardin, it's extremely touristy, the vast majority of tourists being Turkish nationals, and that puts pressure on the price of beds in the old city. It doesn't feel like great value but these are Mardin prices.
- Wayne (8/5): Recommended - Ridvan the owner was fantastic, extremely attentive to our needs and a good source of information as he spoke English. The location was great and the views from our room and terrace breathtaking. We enjoyed staying here. Nothing
- Susan (9/5): It's all about the view - Location, it's all about the view over the town and plains beyond. Ridvan himself could not have been more welcoming, he met us from the top road and helped carry the luggage and showed us round, he tried very hard to give us a great breakfast. He has good local knowledge, speaks excellent English and other languages.
Comfortable beds Comfortable beds but no other furniture, we had to put suitcases on the floor and sit on the beds.
No water one evening

- Ineke (10/5): 🌟 Perfect Stay – I Felt at Home! 🌟 - 🌟 Perfect Stay – I Felt at Home! 🌟
I stayed here alone and couldn’t have chosen a better place. The location is perfect — close to everything and with a beautiful terrace view to relax on. The room was very big, spotless, and comfortable.
The owner, Rıdvan, was incredibly kind, helpful, and always ready to make sure I had everything I needed. Traveling alone, it meant a lot to feel so welcomed and cared for. He didn’t just run the hotel — he became a friend.
I truly recommend this place to anyone looking for comfort, warmth, and genuine hospitality. 💛
- Elena (10/5): La mia bellissima camera già mi manca!
- Václav (10/5): - The owner was great.
We arrived late and had problem finding the hotel but the owner waited for us till 11pm and found us in the city to guide us there.
Overall, very nice experience and great value for money.
- Thomas (10/5): - Ridwan is quite possibly the nicest hotel owner in Turkey. He made sure I had everything I needed and even brought me water & fruit when I was sick.
Location & view is amazing.
Wifi was great.
- Giacomo (1/5): Worst room/place in 62 years of travelling! - Nothing. It was terrible. The room was nothing like shown in the picture. It was a dirty, dusty small room with no privacy. The bed was rusty and flimsy. There was no shower, just a hose sticking out of the wall. Thin see through curtains and the room faced the public terrace. It was a dirty run down building that did not even have a sign. It really felt like a bait and switch. The owner mentioned having two properties. We feel like we paid for one property and being put in an other. Should not be on your site. Worst room in 62 years of travelling. We left the place as soon as we saw the room!
- Larry (9/5): Cozy stay in the ancient city - Very nice location, in the old city. Very cozy and clean place. Good views of the city. Very lovely walking through this ancient city. TV was not working. No sign posted to identify the hotel so I wondered for a couple hours.
- Berkay (10/5): Exceptional - Rıdvan was an amazing host. He greeted us very warmly and helped us settle down. He has a new place which has a gorgeous view of old Mardin from a very high elevation and it is very peaceful to stay in that location. He let us stay in the new location which was an amazing upgrade for us!
I would definitely recommend staying in his place and enjoy the easy access to old Mardin center with all of the shops and amenities.
- M (9/5): Superb -
- İsmail (10/5): We felt completely at home throughout our stay. - The breakfast, accommodation, cleanliness, hospitality, and location were all fantastic. Everything was beyond our expectations and absolutely perfect. We felt completely at home throughout our stay. A special thank you to Rıdvan Abi and Nazan Abla — their kindness, care, and warm smiles made our holiday truly unforgettable. Every little detail was thoughtfully taken care of. We highly recommend this place to everyone. I also kiss and miss the most beautiful Kitchen Cat in the world :)
- Louise (10/5): Wonderful authentic rooms with lovely host . - This is an authentic ancient building possibly 1,000 years old ….I had a room up the top of the stairs which was perfect with a view . I loved the old stone atmosphere and the big welcome when we arrived . The breakfast was more than I could eat . The location is great and you can walk to all the major landmarks . The owner was most helpful and super friendly . Nothing
- Anne (7/5): Good -
- Iwona (10/5): Super miejsce - Overnight stay in the center of old Mardin right by the main street. A place where I felt at home. Atmospheric, although not for someone looking for a 5* hotel. The exceptional openness and kindness of the owner of the Ridvan hotel made you want to come back there again. Delicious breakfasts prepared by Nazan. I also wholeheartedly recommend trips organized by Ridvan, Midyat, Sanliurfa, Gobekli Tepe or Diyarbakır, for him there is nothing impossible to do 🙂
Thank you for a great stay

- Matthias (10/5): Exceptional - Very good food, everything was homemade and they really cared that we had everything that we needed. :) The owners were extremely friendly and we had an amazing time.
- Catalin-d (10/5): Excellent! - Excellent stay, very close (2 min) to the main street in Mardin where all the shops are located. The rooms follow the traditional "stone" alike, they are big and with a comfortable bed. Breakfast is very delicious. Best part is the host, who will do his best to accomodate everything. We also did a tour with him and managed to see a lot of interesting things and places. Shukran habibi!
- Afzal (10/5): Exceptional - The owner ridwan(abi) was very hospitable and kind. Trying to speak as much English as possible. Also sister Nazan (she works at the hotel) is very kind and makes a really good breakfast. I traveling solo and in stead of a group tour ridwan abi and sister Nazan took me to all the tourist places. And than later on sister Nazan took me around walking. She did not let me be alone and I really appreciated that. She took me around all of Mardin. We would use the translator often but it worked out. Gilgamesh is a great pace to stay where you feel very safe and at home . Everything was great.
- Israa (6/5): Pleasant - Location 👍 The place old and many thing in otel
- Irina (5/5): Exotic and unusual accomodation, overall fair value for the money - The room was exotic, it is essentially a sort a chamber in a medieval castle. There was an electric heater which was handy as nights in April can be chilly. The owners wife made us a fantastic turkish breakfast. At night one can sit on the patio overlooking the mesopotamian plane. Good wifi. You cant expect much comfort in a medieval chamber. The place is basic, the shower is a cabin in the room, the shelves are niches in the stone wall. There is one electric outlet with an extension attached.
(9/5): Superb -
- Hilary (10/5): Wonderful staff, good location, great value - We loved our stay in Mardin, a lot in part due to our stay here.
It’s in a great location. Close enough to easily walk to all the sites and restaurants, but it’s a little bit above the main road, so you get all the ease of access and none of the noise.
The owner was so friendly and so accommodating, it felt like he was looking out for us to get the best experience possible. We hired him as our tour guide for a day to go see the major sites in the region — it was great because we could leave after we had breakfast, and he went above and beyond what you’d get to see if you hired a taxi.
Breakfast was great. Room was clean and comfortable. We felt very at home. Beautiful view. As other reviews mention, it’s an old stone building, so the bathroom is in the same room just with a privacy wall around it. We knew this going into our stay and didn’t mind, so it wasn’t an issue for us but is something to keep in mind for those who are uncomfortable with it.
- Ali (9/5): Superb - Ridvan and his family were very gracious and helpful hosts. Their house has the old Mardin charm and is in a decent location close to all the main areas Parking
- Əminə (10/5): Friendly, sweet and comfortable - the room was as ancient as it looked. It suited the atmosphere of the city. The host was smiling, friendly and attentive. The location was excellent, it is possible to leave the house and walk around the old Mardin. The host made tea and coffee for us several times. Breakfast was prepared in a large portion
- Dilara (10/5): Exceptional - The location was very convenient, the host was so helpful. We had a great experience!
- Alessia (9/5): Great value for price - Very friendly and helpful stuff and comfortable room. Quite location closeby main street
- Derrick (10/5): Exceptional - Host was excellent and very good care of us. He took very good care of us.
- Sametyil (8/5): I can offer. Value of money is good. - Owner is so nice man. He gave me nice window room. I dont have any problem. Bathroom and WC open the room directly. Because of old stone house. It is added after.
- Thosapol (8/5): Very good -
- Ahmed (9/5): Superb -
- Jefran (10/5): Sir Ridvan and his staff are amazing!!! The rooms are huge and have everything you need. Highly recommended for Mardin v - Location, owner and staff. None.
- Anonymous (10/5): Exceptional - 5 min walk to the city center, everything is clean accessible, the host is super polite and friendly, warm recommendations
- Sophie (2/5): Worst experience in Turkey. Rude people, noisy place, uncomfortable bed, no breakfast. - Worst experience in Turkey.
These people are not professionals and this place should not be called a hotel. I was the only customer there and the so called terrace is an open space for the laundry with only one table where the neighbors hang out constantly. There was no quiet space for me to be apart from my room, where I could hear them shout until midnight. I messaged the manager who was absent at night about this issue, he apologized and the family was very cold with me the next day. Their kids are constantly screaming. The second night they made a lot of noise again, shouting and playing music. These people are disrespectful and if I didn’t pay my stay in advance I would have left. The customer service is zero. You don’t get any tea in the morning like in any place in Turkey, no breakfast either. On my last day the manager wasn’t around to help me book a taxi or even say goodbye. The place is a joke. The room was big and beautiful, that’s the only good thing, but the bed was not comfortable, there was a gap in the middle. The bathroom was not clean - they were lots of hair on the floor. For this price it was very disappointing. Do yourself a favor and go to a real hotel, for the same price there’s much better options around and with breakfast included.
- Susan (10/5): Exceptional - Super nice hosts, very clean and nicely decorated rooms, good but quiet location in the old town.
- Emily (10/5): A must stay location for your time in Mardin - If you are contemplating where to stay for a few nights in Mardin- look no further. This is the place for you if you enjoy conversing with others, want a local stone room experience, and like to be close to all of the happenings. The host and his family are simply incredible. They were all very warm and welcoming and aimed to make my stay as comfortable and enjoyable as possible. The location is close to the main bazaar and anything you could need. The room provided everything I needed comfortably but what made this place exceptional were the owners. They are more than happy to give you suggestions on things to see and do over a cup of cay. They also offer a day tour/transport to different sites around the region like Dara. I couldn't have asked for a better experience from my time with them. My only regret is not staying longer.
- Angela (9/5): Superb - The staff were very kind and helped us with room needs and day tour. The beds were clean and comfortable.
The accommodations were close to shops & restaurants. I have already informed the hotel owner of the need to clean up wall and floor dust more diligently.
Staff smoking sometimes in presence of guests...guests who have already indicated that they can't be near cigarette smoke. Hotel owner has been made aware of this
- Mitasha (10/5): Had a wonderful stay - The location, the old structure of the house, Mr ridwan, the owner was an wonderful person. Layla and marwa , two students working there was amazing. It felt like home. They have a beautiful patio in front of the kitchen, you can just sit there with a tea of coffee, talk to other people , the owner Mr Rizwan love inving people for tea and coffee, that is very comfortable and wonderful. Only my toilet had low ceiling, for me it was fine but may be a problematic for someone tall. The other rooms did not have any issues though
- Shabana (10/5): Exceptional -
- Enis (10/5): If you want to feel history, choose this place - We were very pleased with the hotel. The owner of the hotel is a very good person and helped us in everything. You can feel at home there. Don't let the price fool you, it's a very clean and quality place.
- Assel (9/5): Superb - The hotel is very colorful. Located in old Mardin. The location is very good. The owner of the hotel is a very cool, responsive, multifaceted person. Helps with everything. Speaks many languages very well. Rydvan bey give you special respect.👌👌🙂🙂
- Marcela (10/5): A beautiful and historic stay in Mardin - It was a beautiful place for my short stay. Hosts were very friendly and helpful, and my room was absolutely amazing. Highly recommended for everyone who wants to experience authentic Mardin.
- Huran (9/5): Superb -
- Solaříková (10/5): Very friendly family always willing to chat and help. Worth the money! -
