• Thomas Andy Branson (9/5): - I’ve been coming to Africa Safari Karatu for several years, so it has been interesting to see how the property continues to expand and develop. They recently added a new, larger swimming pool alongside the original smaller one, which is a very nice improvement to the overall atmosphere of the lodge. The staff also upgraded us to a better room, which I truly appreciated — probably a kind gesture because they have known me for many years. Hospitality and friendliness have always been among the strong points of this place. However, I also noticed that the quality and variety of the food have unfortunately declined quite significantly compared to previous years. Breakfast is very basic and almost always consists of only a small amount of fruit, eggs, bread, and pancakes. The lunch box, which costs 12.50 USD, is also rather modest and usually contains only simple biscuits and a small portion of chicken. Dinner used to be served as a buffet, which offered much more choice and flexibility. Now there are only three menu options, and two of them are often heavily spiced and very hot. I believe the management should understand that many guests arrive exhausted after long safari days, and a good, varied dinner is an important part of the experience and recovery. The rooms were comfortable overall, although there was a slightly unpleasant smell inside — possibly from fresh paint or insufficient ventilation before guest arrival. Despite these criticisms, I still appreciate the effort the property is making to improve and expand. With some attention to the food quality and a few smaller details, this place could once again reach the high standard it had in the past.

• Cleo M. (5/5): La discarica a cielo aperto in fiamme, a meno di un chilometro dal resort, è una bomba ecologica !! - La vista sulla vallata, la nuova piscina e i spazi comuni sono molto belli. Non è la prima volta che soggiorno in questo hotel; l'anno scorso mi sono trovata molto bene. Questa volta il mio soggiorno è stato però rovinato dalla discarica a cielo aperto, localizzata a meno di un chilometro dal resort, che emanava un fumo acre e nauseabondo dalla sera alla mattina. Quando i rifiuti bruciano a cielo aperto, rilasciano nell'aria sostanze altamente tossiche, tra cui diossine, furani e metalli pesanti, che contaminano l'aria, il suolo e le falde acquifere. Un inceneritore a cielo aperto non dovrebbe esistere, soprattutto in una zona naturalistica come questa! Questa volta la cena a buffet è stata sostituita da un menù à la carte. La qualità del cibo era discutibile: prodotti locali purtroppo non ben cucinati. Non ho trovato nulla di mio gradimento tra i piatti scelti; ho mangiato pochissimo e durante la notte ho avuto fame e non sono riuscita a riposare. Rispetto alla sera precedente, è stata una grande delusione. A ciò si aggiunge il caldo durante il giorno dovuto alla mancanza di aria condizionata in camera. Doveva essere il mio giorno di relax prima del safari. Febbraio è molto caldo e la grande finestra in camera non faceva altro che riscaldare l'ambiente della camera durante il giorno. La nuova piscina era molto bella, ma la palestra era chiusa e nessuno sapeva il perché. Il resort presenta notevoli dislivelli e distanze, pertanto raggiungere il ristorante, se alloggiate nelle prime camere nuove, potrebbe risultare difficoltoso per chi ha difficoltà motorie. La strada che conduce al resort è in cattive condizioni, completamente sterrata, e si percorre in 20 minuti in auto dalla strada principale.

• Ewelina Bakowska (3/5): l'incendio di una discarica nelle vicinanze rappresenta un'emergenza ambientale e sanitaria! - La colazione era buona. La camera nuova, ma senza A/C faceva molto caldo di giorno! Parliamo di febbraio, il mese più caldo del anno. Discarica che brucia 24/24 a Cielo Aperto 830 m dalla mia camera! Il secondo giorno è cambiato il vento portando odore acre e nauseabondo dalla discarica che brucia a cielo aperto a meno di un chilometro dalla struttura. Le discariche a cielo aperto sono siti di abbandono incontrollato di rifiuti, fonte di grave inquinamento e rischi sanitari. Inoltre la stessa sera hanno sostituito la cena a buffet con servizio alla carta, molto limitato, con piatti locali per nulla cucinati bene, la mchicha era salatissima, il riso duro, tutto di bassa qualità. Non ho mangiato quasi nulla e ho avuto fame nella notte! La palestra era chiusa e il personale non sapeva nulla. In camera ho trovato un asciugamano sporco.

Die Zuwegung von der Stadt zur Lodge ist keine befestigte Straße und man braucht dafür auch mit 4x4 und lokalem Fahrer mindestens 20 Minuten. Das Essen und die Getränke sind im Verhältnis zu anderen Orten relativ teuer.

Tolles Personal, tolles Essen und sogar ein kleines Fitnessstudio hat die Lodge zu bieten. Die lunchboxen waren aus hervorragend, auf individuelle Wünsche sind die bestens eingegangen. Würde die Unterkunft jedem sofort weiterempfehlen. Alles war super, das einzige ist, dass für mich zu wenig Gewichte im Fitnessraum zur Verfügung standen und die Zelte vielleicht etwas dicht aneinander stehen.

• Tuwabunze (8/5): Overall is a beautiful place…Few adjustments in terms of customer service…I would love to go back. - The place is in a very good location…Beautiful view At some point it took ages to be attended by the waiters who were on duty,we witnessed other visitors come in and go while we wait to be served the lunch we had ordered since breakfast. But we communicated with the management and we were given a waiver for that specific service…Waiters should be kinder,communicate any inconvinience and attend to all their visitors equally...

• Antique (9/5): Serene and relaxing - After a rough ride in Serengeti and ngorongoro crater the resort offers a perfect ambiance to relax Locations is somehow off the highway and google gives a wrong address however signposts are placed over the road to guide you. Google pin needs to be corrected which would help incase a signpost is broken

• Evgenii (1/5): - I am writing to express my dissatisfaction with my recent stay at your hotel. Unfortunately, I encountered several issues that have left me feeling frustrated and misled. Firstly, I was not informed during the booking process that your hotel is located outside the Serengeti National Park. This information was crucial for us as we planned our trip accordingly, expecting the hotel to be within park boundaries. It was only upon reaching the park checkpoint that we discovered this discrepancy. We were then informed about the additional charges required for re-entering the park, amounting to $800. Furthermore, when we contacted Booking.com seeking assistance in resolving this issue, they reached out to your hotel on our behalf requesting a refund for the non-refundable reservation. However, despite their efforts, your hotel refused to honor the cancellation policy and proceeded to charge us for one night's stay. This experience has been disappointing and stressful, especially since it was entirely unexpected. I expected transparency from the hotel regarding its location and the associated costs. Such miscommunication has caused unnecessary financial strain and inconvenience. I hope you take appropriate measures to ensure this does not happen to other guests in the future. Please look into this matter and consider providing compensation for the unexpected expenses incurred due to your oversight.

• Renzo (1/5): Pericoloso, di fronte ad una discarica di rifiuti in fiamme. - Il posto è bello ma la discarica in fiamme lo rende inaccettabile L'hotel è di fronte ad una discarica di rifiuti in fiamme, appena arrivati si vedeva l'hotel avvolto nei fumi della discarica. Alla reception abbiamo fatto presente che la cosa era pericolosa e volevamo cambiare struttura. A loro detta il governo sostiene che non vi siano pericoli. Abbiamo fatto presente che si vedeva benissimo la plastica ed il resto dei rifiuti che sono evidentemente tossici. mi hanno anche detto che l'incendio durava da molti giorni. Hanno chiamato il manager che subito ci ha proposto di spostarci in un altra struttura ad Arusha ma poi avendo prenotato con booking ci ha detto che non poteva e che dovevamo stare li. siamo rimasti chiusi in camera e alla mattina ce ne siamo andati subito. avevamo prenotato per due notti che ci hanno fatto pagare senza il minimo sconto. La cosa assurda che le ragazze alla reception dicevano di conoscere i rischi ma erano tranquille perchè il governo sosteneva non vi fossero rischi. Come si vede dalle foto bruciava di tutto, compresa plastica.

Good base when going to Safari. - Everything was good from the moment we arrived, the staff took care of our extensive luggage, check in was smooth and our room was clean and comfortable, with a nice view. Full board was worth it and the big restaurant gave very nice African vibes. Nothing to complain.

The female manager insisted that the price for meals quoted on Booking.com were incorrect, and that they were an extra $2.50 per person per meal. Even when I showed her the price on Booking, she just said it’s not her problem. I appreciate this is not a lot of money, but if they are doing this to everyone who books via Booking, then it will add up nicely! This was in addition to local tax. There is a huge amount of building work going on at the moment, which is noisy and dusty. We were not warned about that. There is no car park to speak of. Be aware that this is a BIG place with many rooms which generally caters for groups arriving in safari jeeps to stay one night. It’s not the place to be if you want coziness or an intimate feel.

Ottima la pulizia. Colazione abbondante e cibo di qualità, la cucina a giorno è una garanzia. Struttura molto curata nei particolari. Bellissimo ascoltare la sera il sussurrare della natura selvaggia… Spero che con la terza costruzione, quella a tre piani, e la relativa nuova piscina e area ristorante, i lavori di ampliamento siano conclusi. Il posto è splendido e se diventasse troppo grande rischierebbe di perdere il suo fascino!
• YC (6/5): - Avis mitigé sur cet hôtel. Endroit magnifique avec une vue superbe. Chambre, propre et avec une belle vue. La chambre ne correspondait pas aux images d’une chambre ‘’typique’’ que j’avais réservé sur le site. Nous nous sommes retrouvés dans un bâtiment moderne avec une chambre sans aucun charme. Nous avons trouvé la cuisine très moyenne. Le point le plus négatif fut l’emplacement, difficile d’accès, loin de tout, avec une piste mal entretenue pour y accéder. Cela peut être bien si vous y séjourner plusieurs jours sans bouger mais pas si c’est pour 1 nuit en rentrant de Safari. Personnellement nous n’y retournerons pas.

Please stay away! - The bright spot here was the waiters and servers who were truly lovely: warm, efficient, and eager to help. Very few of ood options. When they asked me for feedback and I rated the food 4/5, they asked me to elaborate. When I told them I expected more variety for breakfast and dinner, they blamed it on me saying I arrived late. Also, the lunch boxes they packed for us to take to the safari were really expensive, and not value for money at all. We subsequently got boxes from other accommodations which were half their price and included twice the number of delicious items. Unfortunately, the reception experience soured our experience of the stay. We accidentally booked August 12 instead of August 11. That was our mistake, we agree. But then when reception said the hotel was fully booked for the 11th, we accepted it and paid for another hotel. Later, however, we were told there were plenty of rooms available on August 11, yet the reception still refused even a partial refund or a credit for our unused night. That contradiction in information, and the unhelpful tone, ended up costing us money and left a bad taste. This property has potential thanks to the excellent restaurant staff, but the front desk needs better alignment, empathy, and clear communication. A small gesture (partial refund or future credit) would have gone a long way.

Final road to the property is still under construction and on a steep hill. I am sure that will be sorted soon.

The location is remote & into the wild which is perfect for a getaway from the usual hustle bustle. The hospitality was great & everyone ensured we were well taken care of. The pool, though small, was sufficient with a scenic view. Unlike other similar properties in the area, the WiFi actually worked well & even in the rooms. The food could have been better and with more options. The property is off the road & requires a Safari/ 4x4 vehicle to reach. Be sure to pack sufficient reserves from the town before you hit the lodge!

• Frederick (9/5): Wonderful long weekend - The best thing about this lodge is the gorgeous view in all directions. Our room had a couch facing the balcony and valley --- so beautiful. Since we visited in the off-season, there were few guests and it was extremely quiet and peaceful. The meals were wonderful and with full board they even gave us a box lunch on the day we checked out! The lodge is 20 min off the paved road, and about 50 min from the gate of Lake Manyara National Park, which is a bit of a drive. But the more isolated location is what made it such a restful experience.

• Michael (8/5): Family weekend at Africa Safari Karatu - Nice view. The rooms were spacious and comfortable. Friendly staff who provided a reasonably-priced birthday cake for my wife. Pool table available. Pleasant swimming pool with views. Access road is very poor in places and it is 7km from tarmac.

• Francesca (3/5): Poor - There was no accomodation for our driver, who had to drive all the way back to town. The road to get there is absolutely horrible when it rains, and it rained a lot even though it was dry season. We booked a 3 bed room and we ended up with a double bed and a creaky horrible camping bed on wheels. We asked for a lunch box to be without lactose because of an intolerance and they managed to give us something completely different than what they initially said, with cheese inside the sandwiches. Once it was time to pay, they managed to not do the calculations properly, and they called our driver after an hour to tell us we still owed them money, which meant we had to interrupt our trip, go back to a town with a bank and send them the remaining money.
• Kunjali (9/5): Africa Safari Karatu, the hidden surprise - you will love this property!! - Africa Safari Karatu surprised us!! The facilities, staff, location, views, food... everything was just perfect. You need to do a bit of off-roading to reach the property, but the travel is worth it. The place is so clam and quiet and the view all around the property is very nice. Wifi. The signal is very weak. If you are on a Workation, please be careful.
• Nick (8/5): Great location for the.Crater - Super friendly staff, amazing views from the pool, food was really good and a great location for the Ngorongoro Crater a little over priced compared with other accommodation of a similar standard we stayed at - Africa Safari resorts were also the only resorts charging 3% for card transactions and we stayed at multiple different accommodation over 10 days
• Gallianne (7/5): Well priced option in Karatu - The vue is beautiful and the Swimming pool a Great plus. The rooms are very clean and comfortable. The Food is very basic so after the First dînner we decided to look for other options in Karatu town.
• Fanay (10/5): Perfect Stay with Stunning Views and Excellent Service - The location of this hotel was perfect—convenient and surrounded by beautiful scenery. The rooms were stunning, offering both comfort and luxury, and the food was absolutely delicious with a great variety. The highlight for me was the swimming pool, which offered breathtaking views that made it the ideal place to relax. I would definitely book here again without hesitation. A truly memorable stay!

• Dearden (7/5): I would recommend this place but I would also say order packed lunch on the am . - Beautiful views . Comfortable beds Very bad road getting too and from the property which I don’t think was clear enough on the website . Food was a bit repetitive after three nights and there were no lunch options if you were there in the day despite bar snacks being offered.
