Guest Reviews

- anthony (1/5): Appalling bad - Nothin The room smelled of fecal matter. It was disgusting. Other guests came in at 2am drunk and screamed at each other for 2 hours. They then played incredibly load music for another hour. When we tried to get them to shut up they told us to fuck off
- Amorim dos Remédios (7/5): - Very expensive!
- Catherine (6/5): - Location was great No parking eventhough it said there was. Carpets all needed to be hoovered- crumbs on our floor. Very expensive considering there was no facilities or breakfast included
- loulou (7/5): - Central location, clean modern decor.
- Gavin (7/5): - Comfortable Last day no hot water!!!!
- Eric (10/5): Cute city - We were upgraded to their other property a few blocks away and it was xlnt
- Meri (9/5): - Room was clean. Comfortable. Everything worked. It was great
- Kayla (4/5): - That we were moved to a different property the morning of our stay
- Robert (7/5): -
- Martina (9/5): - Tolle Lage, im Zentrum, old Fashion aber schön
- Anna (1/5): Would avoid in future - Shower broken the whole time, power went out. Had to ring staff on multiple occasions and the problem wasn’t fixed. Attempted to contact property about this afterwards and have been ignored.
- Francesca (9/5): Bella camera staff fantasma - Posizione, camera e bagno molto belli. Lo staff non ti risponde mai, mi ha risposto solo una volta negandomi di lasciare gli zaini un'oretta in più.

- O Beirne (7/5): It's a pleasant stay with small inconveniences. - I liked the room, the bed was comfortable, i fell asleep almost instantly and it was well made when we walked in. I enjoyed the freebies and how it was so close to everything I wanted to do in kilkenny, so handy.
The room look generally pretty clean ofcourse and pretty much what I wanted from the booking. The first day we got there, the shower was working just fine however after our 3rd day the water pressure seemed to be acting up and so we couldn't take a shower which was kind of sad. There were random noises from the radiators but I take it, that's not something that can really be helped which is okay, the Internet was a wee bit buffery at times and that's all I can think of. Not super annoying, just small nitpicks and inconveniences but I can see it annoying people who are staying much longer than us.
- Roisin (10/5): -
- ben (3/5): cold water - no hot water, manager wouldnt/couldnt fix it
- john (6/5): - As we are senior citizens we had to climb appx.60 steps to access our room other than that the room was clean but no staff anywhere in the building so we had no contact with anyone if there was an emergency I don't think that we would stay there again
- Anne Isabelle (1/5): - A éviter. Pas d'eau chaude ni le matin ni le soir. Pas de chauffage. Vitre brisée à la fenêtre. Et pas de réception... Pour un prix déjà excessif étant donné l'état de l'hôtel...
- Darcy (6/5): -
- Suzanna (3/5): Overpriced - Comfortable bed
Could open the window Stank of stale cigarettes
Buzzing sound from pipes or something
- Morgan (1/5): -
- ray (8/5): - Value for money
Weird having no interaction with any person
- O'Carroll (9/5): - In the high street close to everything. There is a carpark under the arch next door (2.2m height limit) and another open one across the way. The castle is only 500m away
- John (2/5): - Location was perfect....walkable to everything. Extremely noisy. A number of rooms had very noisy occupants in and out, slamming doors, talking loudly until 2:30am. Also, the street noise made sleeping very difficult. And there are way too many stairs to get to the rooms and no elevator.
- Zielke (10/5): Extremely comfortable, in the heart of town, and friendly staff - I was ill and they worked with us to check in early. Also, the most comfortable bed we slept in during our time in Ireland! Nothing
- O'Sullivan (9/5): -
- Benjamin (8/5): - Good value and location
- Amorim dos Remédios (9/5): - The bed is very comfortable.
- Marta (9/5): Lovely place; more like a hotel than a hostal - Easily accessible and spotlessly clean.
Quick check out.
An offering of breakfast would be great but there is a lovely place right next door.
And place is in the middle of Kilkenny so you have lots of option.
Even though it was in the centre, it was very quiet and this was on Saturday night. Breakfast offering would be great.
A bit expensive for a hostal even though it is more like a hotel without reception.
- Rachel (10/5): Great stay would recommend when looking for a central spot in Kilkenny - Fabulous room in fabulous location
- Víctor (10/5): -
- Kelly (6/5): - Location Building work going on .it was dirty
- HELEN (4/5): -
- Kaitlyn (10/5): -
- Breda (7/5): - Excellent central location. Very easy self-check in. Enjoyed our stay.
- Michael (10/5): - The room was very clean!
- Elaine (7/5): Good value - Location Noise outside
- Ignacio (8/5): -
- Chris (4/5): Very disappointing and especially considering the price. Would never dream of going back there. - Location was good everything else not. There was food left on the floor - obviously had not been cleaned properly. Walls were thin and door not at all sound proofed - lots of noise from other guestes. No remote for TV so could not turn it on (no buttons on the TV itself. No response from thje person whose number was given for issues. Everything but the location.

- Abigail (1/5): Avoid!!!! Fawlty Towers experience - I stayed here previously and had a lovely experience.....the location is fab...room fab...very convenient. I left a glowing review the last time. This time unfortunately will be my last time booking here. Was back at my room a little after 11pm...swipe card would not open room....receptionist came down to help me gain access(after 1 hr waiting) couldn't gain access....I complained to her that it wasn't good enough and her boyfriend verbally abused me saying it was his girlfriends nite off and that she was doing me & my friends a favour coming down to give us access to our room. They left when they couldn't open the door. A night staff was put on speaker phone who said he was finishing his pint & he would be down to let us in....he arrived at 2a.m with butter knives to try get us into our room....he again told us he was doing us a favour by trying to gain access to our room....it was after 3a.m we gained access!!! And we had to vacate at 6am for work!!!! The manager came when the door finally opened and apologised and said she would call me yesterday about the incident that never happened. Would I stay again??? Absolutely not. It was a shocking carry on....3 hours of sleep....Myself & My 2 employee s were treated like crap and an inconvenience for looking for help because the room card wouldn't open the door.I would have stayed somewhere else that nite expect all of our work & home keys and suitcases were locked in the room. I wouldn't recommend this place to anyone!!!! It was a case of take their money & take no responsibility after that. Management are clearly as bad as employee s paying lip service at 3am and promising to call and no bothering. If you want ro pay for a room ....swipe cards not working....nobody wanting to take responsibility then waste your money and stay here!!!! Reminded me of faulty towers....a drunk nite worker....a receptionist who hated her job...and a manager who can't manage Being locked out of our room.until.3a.m.Staff who hate their job & feel customer service is an inconvenience for them and customer service is not their job. As well.as being swore at ....wasting my money...Both staff & receptionist boyfriend indicated this is a regular occurrence & they don't get paid room come out. !!! I can only believe it because manager never called back as promised
- Elizabeth (6/5): A few days in Kilkenny. - The location. No staff but I knew that in advance.
- NallyAnn (2/5): Bad- I want a partial refund for the lack of hot water. - Hot water did not work. I was in town for a wedding and could not even shower due to the hot water issue. It was a nuisance and I had to pay a hairdresser to wash and blow dry my hair. Told property I needed it fixed asap. By the time it was done it was too late and I was already on my way to the wedding.
- Martin (10/5): -
- Didier (7/5): Je ne recommanderai pas. Uniquement en dépannage comme ce fut le cas. - Situation géographique bien
Personnel et services inexistants Accueil des clients
- Ava (7/5): -
- Joanna (9/5): Little gem in the heart of Kilkenny! - Excellent location, walking distance to tourist spots. Fantastic pubs and restaurants just across the road to grab breakfast or enjoy a night out. Staff were very helpful and hospitable. Rooms are comfortable, clean and beautifully designed. If we venture to Kilkenny again we will happily stay at the Gate Lodge! No on-site parking available, parking available next door in the shopping center which is convenient but pricy. No iron in room but staff dropped one down upon request.
- Sean (6/5): overall the stay was nice, simple and done the job. - The room was lovely. good shower and heating. loved the coffee machine, that was a very nice touch. the area nearby is great and is walkable. the tv in the room was very good I was actually able to log into my disney plus and watch our show after a night out. it was easy to collect your card. the place is a little hard to find, had to really keep you eyes open to find it. I don't have a major problem with unstaff hostels and we didn't have a issue there. however I can see how it can for other people arriving and only way to get help is by a phone call. another thing I want to mention is that there is no lifts, it is all stairs.( at least we didn't see) and I saw no mention for this in the info so if you are a person with disables or troubles with flights of stairs I would advise you to double check with this place.

- Joy (8/5): Great and would definitely stay again! - The location to the centre was great, and the staff went above and beyond to accomodate us. Was a great stay overall, especially for the price. Would definitely stay again! The only downside was the small gap beneath the door, which meant there was a small amount of noise when people were walking past, but nothing super disturbing.
- Sol (10/5): - The coffee machine
- Derek (8/5): - Luvly apartment in city centre, close to everything and great value, easy check in and drop box for key when leaving.. would stay here again
- Bryndis (4/5): Sort of creepy, not easy to check in, but a convenient location with a decent bed. - We appreciated the bed and the location. It was right downtown and close to good restaurants and pubs. We didn’t realize that the hotel was not going to have a person checking us in before booking. We would have chosen a different place to stay had we known; this is because we prefer having a check-in/hotel experience where there is actual staff. Since we didn’t have staff, it was a little nerve-wracking. They claimed they would send a message at 15:00 with the code to get into the building; they did not. I had to call about an hour later to ask for help getting into the building. As an international traveler, that was a little scary given that my phone doesn’t always work when traveling abroad. It was also a very expensive hotel. Given the price, many things were worse than expected. For example, the WiFi was quite bad, the environment was honestly really creepy (there was a mysterious door with birds squeaking and hooting behind it??) and the bathroom lights wouldn’t stay on. Honestly might recommend an exorcist of some sort, as the whole place felt “haunted.”

- Lillian (10/5): - Everything
- Avril (10/5): - Property was very comfortable
- Owen (9/5): - Very different experience with no dealing with any staff, I liked it alot. Rooms of a good size, nice and clean, tea and coffee. Good size tv. Yes I was very satisfied and would definitely stay again
- Ferrão (6/5): -
- Cummins (9/5): Very clean - Overall our stay was very good. It was self check in and self check out so I can't rate staff. We were given the code to the lock box for room 12 but when we went to enter code for box, lock box was able to be opened by hand. Did not require code..
- Eliza (10/5): Perfect - Highly recommend this stunning property if you are staying in this area. The room we stayed in had recently been renovated to a very high standard and was so spacious and absolutely spotless. The communication to gain access to the property was superb, and the location couldn’t have been more perfect to visit the city’s attractions, just a short walk away. The staff we encountered were also lovely and so hospitable. Nothing
- Niamh (6/5): -
- pamela byrne (10/5): We'll be back - Very clean. Comfortable bed. Nice size room. Great value for money
- Aine (7/5): Perfect location in Kilkenny. - Ideal location Hairdryer was weak and light in the bathroom was flickering.
- Niamh (5/5): - The location is perfect. Its in the heart of the city. The room was extremely basic. There was no where to hang anything. There was no coat hook on the back of the room door nor was there a wardrobe to even hang clothes. The lamps on either locker were new and stylish, unfortunately only one worked. In the bathroom the radiator was removed from the wall but the brackets still remained, the toilet bowl had a huge chunk missing from it, there was scum all around the bath. The ceiling in the bathroom was cracked and looked like it was ready to fall in.
The windows in the room were awful and the room was freezing.
- Colm (9/5): -
- Kelly Veltkamp (7/5): -
- Fiona (10/5): Great location, bed very comfy, car overnight was €20 right beside property - Extra cups for tea and coffee and better light over mirror for help when applying make up Nothing

- Shannon (10/5): -
- Binns (10/5): -
- Buckley (6/5): - Shower tray didn't drain very big health and safety risk
- Carol (8/5): -
- O'Sullivan (7/5): -
- Iryna (7/5): - Good for money Small room, no elevator
- Brenda (10/5): -
- Peter (9/5): -
- Katherine (4/5): - Fantastic location. Very comfortable room. No water (hot or cold) in the bathroom on Sunday morning.
Very poor security. Our bedroom door was mistakenly opened by someone using a card key at 2.00am. Not good enough!
- Katie (1/5): - The bed was comfy Woke up on the 7th of December, found at 10.00
no running water available, we had a full day of touring planned but we could not shower, no water to brush teeth, wash hands ect. We rang the contact number and there were no help, not apologetic and sounded like she was reading from a script, I told her on the phone how displeased I was and she couldn’t have cared less it must be a common occurrence here. Avoid avoid avoid
- O Sullivan (5/5): - Location No wardrobe no hooks for coats not even in bathroom, which could do with a major refit and update, also only one key card,
