Guest Reviews
- elena (8/5): - La vista a la bahia
- Marco Antonio (10/5): - Muy bien
Hermoso lugar!!
- mairi (10/5): - very friendly check in. room, bathroom and balcony all very clean and spacious, nicely decorated too. the staff are helpful!
the pool area is very beautiful with steps down to the beach.
- Martha (4/5): - The owner don't have any other way to take my payment .only cash .and they very rude
- Royce (6/5): Great views but run down - I’m loved the style of the outside but the inside needs a lot of work. The beds were extremely uncomfortable. However, the balcony and view is incredible.
There really ISNT a restaurant. They have a room service menu. The day we wanted breakfast they said they weren’t serving breakfast. That night we ordered pizza which they actually order from somewhere else and don’t make it there. It was AWFUL and BURNT. We ordered it at 740pm and it arrived burnt at 10pm.
The location is good. A few walkable options but be prepared to walk a bit up and down a hill.
- Lynne (8/5): View of Santa cruise - Excellent location, beautiful views, nice pool. Place is not a 5 star but well worth the money. Lots of stairs. 100 stairs down to the beautiful fandango bay where there is snorkeling. Could use some kitchen extras, but we made it work. 20-25 walk to town or 40 pesos cab ride. We loved it but we’re not fancy people.
- Michael (2/5): - The pictures on the ad are somewhat true, the view is beautiful. However it is very difficult to get to the beach or anywhere else. There are no stores or restaurants within a 30 minute walk. We booked a kitchen unit, however there was no coffee maker, no kettle and the pot and pans were in such bad shape I would not cook with them. The tv did not work at all. The bed was extremely hard and when you lay on it you felt the springs. You don’t prepay at Fandango and was glad of that. They don’t take credit cards so you have to pay in cash. Despite booking 3 weeks we left after 2 nights.
- Jose Luis (2/5): - The views from the hotel are great, other than that the service, cleanliness and upkeep of the property are below par.
- Prescillia (10/5): - Excelente vista y recamara luminosa
- Zuzi (10/5): - Beautiful view, nice pool, very clean.
- EDGAR (2/5): - When checking in the staff was unfriendly and demanded cash payment even when we paid with credit card, place is in major need of repairs, unsafe stair’s with falling down and no rail for support, pool not clean, no running water at times, rooms sliding doors don’t lock, no safe for personal items, we had cash stolen from our room, staff didn’t care, and tried to say we lost it. No control of room keys from front desk, found out after we filed a complaint with the public ministry of Huatulco, had to change hotel because of the unsafe conditions and the high robbery chances. NO RECOMMENDED. Orbits should remove this place from the Huatulco options. After speaking with locals about the incident they commented that it’s not the first time this has happened in fandango hotel so we made sure to take time from our vacation to file a complaint and have a investigation about the incident with local government so this will not happen to anyone.
- Grant (6/5): - Like the other reviews have said, lots of stairs and very run down. When we arrived, the ground floor patio door didn’t lock. They got it fixed the next day so nothing serious. There is no in room safe. We also had the room with the kitchenette, but disappointed to find it came with only a few plates and some random cutlery. We had to purchase everything from spatulas and cutting boards and knives, dish soap, tea towels, etc.
the steps down to the pool are a bit sketchy, there are two that wobble, so going down with a cool can be dangerous if your not careful. The steps down to beach are a bit overgrown, so going down with a cooler is a bit of a squeeze at a few points. The stairs are a bit of a chore, but we just told ourselves “we needed the exercise”.
The beach is very nice, and mostly quiet, but we did have some tour boats pull up a couple days an unload tourists for a few hours. We snorkelled around the cove to the next beech, but judging from all the tp in the bushes behind the beach that beach is just used as a bathroom stop for tour boats so suggest sticking to the beach area in front of fandango.
Overall the view is awesome, location is great, and very quiet, except for the noise down at the cruise port ( which can really carry)
We would stay here again, though not in the kitchenette. With having to buy everything, would have been cheaper to eat out for the few meals we ended up cooking.
- Charlene (4/5): - The view is spectacular..the mosquitos were terrible..the air conditioning and TV did not work, the unit was dirty and not upkept..the sliding glass door was very difficult to open..the shower was not working properly..the kitchenette was dirty and the utensils were filthy and old, refrigerator was not cold..the bathroom was outside the room..the price was way too expensive for a poor quality accomodation..
- Daniel (4/5): - The property is old, not in great condition and the beds are terrible.
- Felipe Angel (8/5): GENIAL - ES UN HOTEL SENCILLO, CREO QUE ES BUENO PARA LO QUE PAGAS, EL TRATO DE LA GENTE DEL HOTEL MUY AMABLES, EN GENERAL ES AGRADABLE LA ESTADIA, LA VISTA MAGNIFICA
- Jesus (6/5): - The property has so much potential .. unfortunately has not been keep therefore there is many áreas to improved…still is located on a prime real state of the bay…
- ERIC (2/5): - When we arrived, the hotel wanted to charge us a rate much higher than what we reserved in hotels.com, so we didn’t stay there.
- Mirna (6/5): - The taxis get there fast all the time and quite environment. One good thing is that we decided to visit Oaxaca, bc of hurricane, and Ciros connected us to the hotel there and we did not had to pay extra. We had a very nice view from our window but i didn't get the room I paid for maybe bc of the hurricane, no one explained. Too many stairs to walk to the office and to the room. bathroom not flushing and instead of someone going to check they told me to open up the key from the bottom lol. no one walked us to our room they told us "go straight and left" so we could not find the room. I had to walk the stairs again to let them know we were lost. They did not gave us any towels we had to ask all the time. the beds are hard and uncomfortable. TV had only one channel and no internet at all. I think it looks too nice on the webpage. it's too expensive for what they offer.
- Jeffrey (6/5): - It my not be for everyone as this site is on a hill and away from the core of things. Its an older place but has some charm to it. Some places have a fridge and stove which are nice and the view from the hill is amazing but the stairs may not be for everyone. The mosquitos can get bad. The pool is nice and the beaches are many in the area. Can rent bikes in town and there are some great places to eat in town a walk down a big hill which takes about 40 minutes plus there is a big mall with everything to fill a fridge. Its a wonderful area its just kind of older. So don't expect plush modern day american all you can eat sort of place. If you don't mind some stair climbs and and an older place. The pool is nice at night after hiking/biking. Don't drink the water!
- brian (10/5): - Absolutely incredible View of Santa Cruz and Marina. Breathtaking. Id go back! Warning: you must be a fit active person or open to excercise.... to walk up and down the stairs to the private beach. (Pool is closer to rooms. Its nice.) (No service or umbrellas on beach.) I enjoy the exercise! This place has character and charm. Not safe for lazy or small children. Like everywhere in Mexico you must watch where you are stepping. Some of the railings are high...hill is very steep down... needs work , and some cracks need filled...but the ceiling fan works ! air conditioning works! the shower was hot! Cold drinks at front...Quiet dead end side street with shade...cheap cab every where... it's a family-run business...never stole a thing... anything we needed, just ask and they take care of. Not a place for high maintenance people. Some bugs...some stains...but clean bed...and clean towels. Close to amazing local el Torino tacos and fresh fruit juice....behind the Pamex gas station. I got fresh cheap fruit and avocados from local market in LA crucecita and I cut it up in my room every morning. Went out for dinner, many excellent restaurants in Huatulco. I recommend Westpark Cafe for breakfast and lunch. Just asked a local with good English they will tell you the best restaurants or make friends with an expat they know the lay of the land. Not strict on masks unless the cruise ships come in in Santa Cruz. Oxygen is essential for Respiratory health after all. God bless.
- Heather (8/5): Beautiful views great location - Very good potential hopefully they reno hotel could be 5 star
- JUDITH MONTSERRATH (10/5): - En general estuvo bien, solo los trastes estaban sucios. PERO VOLVERIA A REGRESAR CON USTEDES SIN PROBLEMA ALGUNO.
MUCHAS GRACIAS.
- Verified traveler (2/5): - Property has not being well maintained. Problems with room bathroom, pool water full of calcium, private beach area full of trash, etc.
- Gigi (4/5): - This hotel has amazing views and super friendly staff! However, the hotel itself needs a lot of repair. The water ran out on one of the days and when we finally got water it was very dirty. The sink, toilet and shower water were all brown. The bathroom is very tiny and there’s no division between shower and toilet seat. The path to the beach access was not clean. There were empty beer cans and water bottles throughout the path. This place has a lot of potential, but unfortunately cleanliness doesn’t seem to be a priority.
- GAbriel (8/5): Great with some exceptions - Stayed there for 5 nights and it was great, I didn't rated the max because it has some details to have into account if you have limited mobility: there are dangerous stairs in order to reach each room, if you tripped over the result could be bad; it doesn't have any drinks or food service, so you have to drive to get your own, or order something from the local restaurants; the parking space is small so if you're driving a minivan and there are more cars already parked it could be tricky to move in or out; if you pay with credit card there's a 6% more you'd have to pay, so only cash is accepted; wifi is practically non existent so you need to use your data mobile service.
- George (8/5): - Lo que más me gusto realmente fue la vista que tiene desde lo alto donde se encuentra con una vista espectacular de la bahía;
- AdrianVazquezRa (10/5): - The best view of Santa Maria bay, a little far of the center but you need 4 dolars to go to the center
- Verified traveler (6/5): - Owner needs to spend some money , the place is in obvious disrepair
- Verified traveler (8/5): Vista increible, limpieza no tanto...
- John (6/5): - The weather and view was awesome. The beds were not that comfortable and the shower had very little pressure! I give it a 2.5 out of 5! The staff is nice and friendly. Lots of construction amd the A.C. was broken
- Verified traveler (2/5): - Insects slime in the pool dirty walls staff not helpful
No amenities not even cofffee
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Priced right, value for your peso, incredible bay views. Happy to see new upgrades being made. (Our 5th time here).
- Mariela (6/5): Needs remodel or updated. - I booked the room on hotels.com the pictures look great online. But don’t be fooled. The first picture on here of the hotel is not the hotel. Yes there is a view. But you can not just walk down the stairs to the ocean. Things were broken like the patio furniture. There’s no phone in the room. It is far from the nearest beach. The bathroom was clean and nice. The pool was filthy. Not the water. The actual pool. They are not very hospitable.
- Verified traveler (6/5): - The divorce that went on until 4am of Friday & Saturday nights kept me awake te disco was 3 floors below
- Diego y Shane (10/5): Spectacular views day and night of the harbor. - My second stay and will definitely return. Friendly staff, room ready on time, everything worked from ac to tv, hot water and comfortable, firm beds.
We had 2 wonderful rooms side by side.
The hotel is walking distance to so many things including the enormous grocery store, clubs, some restaurants but others a short cab ride which is very cheap.
We walked to Centro in 20 minutes and dabbed back late.
Excellent overall experience.
- Rachel (6/5): Nice view but very basic room - The hotel is fairly budget. The only good thing is the nice view and having access to a pool. Room was okay and very basic (I.e hard bed only one flat pillow each , no head board) Upon entering the room their was a permanent toilet smell and it wasn’t from us! This is a family run hotel that was somewhat unorganized with the check in. Their young teens lounge around braiding their hair at the reception desk, reluctant to move as we needed to check out. They all eat in the main courtyard too which is kinda strange for a hotel.
- robert (4/5): There are way better hotels - Dangerous not build to what I would consider any safety building code especially the steps, pool poorly maintained, the lock on my door was so insecure if you blew on it it would probably open, pool poorly maintained & getting to it you needed to be s mountain goat as for the private beach only a mountaineer would tackle it. The only good thing I can say was nice view. Way overpriced.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - unique hotel, great view, a few ants in the room but overall a nice place
- Sharon (2/5): Disgusting Place to Stay - We arrived at the Hotel Fandango on January 21. The hotel staff can't speak English. When we were shown our room (101) which was supposed to have a kitchenette, we were dumbfounded!!! The room was filthy, the bathroom was disgusting, the beds were terrible. My husband sat down on a bed on got a spring up his behind!! There were no pots, pans, coffee pot, dishes, cutlery in the kitchenette. There was a stove and a fridge which were filthy. There was a sink in the kitchen and a filthy dish tray with a fork, knife and cup on it. There was no closet space to put your clothes and the patio doors to the deck did not lock. The deck furniture was dirty and it looked like the deck had not been swept or cleaned in some time. We tried to communicate with the hotel staff about getting a nicer room but they said they had nothing else. This was their nicest room!!! He asked us if we wanted to cancel and we did. I could not imagine staying there in that filth. We left immediately and found another hotel in Santa Cruz that was very clean and cheaper in price than the Villa Fandango. My husband and I were so fortunate that we found a cab driver who could speak some English and he took us to the new hotel. I would not recommend the Villa Fandango to my worst enemy!!
- Ronnoco (6/5): Nice view of bay - Need your walking shoes for the basic amenities. Distance to market for supplies is ok, recommend cab for safety. Should not rent if accompanied with young children, best suited for mature adults that are only needing a place to sleep.
- White Male, 31 (2/5): Impossible to Relax - Pros:
1. Good location
2. Good food
Cons
1. Both the male staff working the front desk tried to overcharge me when I paid for my room. I had to show them the Expedia price and/or the current exchange rate and explain that I would not be paying more. One of them also tried to keep the change I paid for some food, which I would have tipped if they hadn't already tried to rip me off. They had a bad attitude overall and I never felt welcome.
2. Internet hardly works, almost not at all in the evenings.
3. The toilet seat in my bathroom was literally held together with zip-ties, and the showerhead operated at about 60%.
4. The noise made sleep impossible. If you get a room next to the stairs it sounds like hammers when people walk by. There was also actual construction nearby taking place 6 days a week starting at 730 am.
5. There is a small infestation of ants, but not a huge deal for the climate and quality of the rooms.
6. The front gate closes around midnight, making it impossible to leave or enter the property. The staff did not respond to ringing the doorbell so I was on my own.
7. I called their front desk several times for some of these issues but they never once answered.
8. The door to the room was very easily opened with a credit card, leaving no way to properly store belongings.
The women working there are all very nice. I still would not recommend this hotel for any occasion.
- Kathryn (6/5): Beautiful view and that’s about it. - Too many stairs, they haven’t put any funds into linen and patio furnishings for awhile. Stains and rips on towels and sheets made us uncomfortable.
- Lupita (4/5): Far hotel - Is nice photos but when you arrive is different the pool is duty the beach too, no has good wife . Far the everything
- Alie (4/5): Needs remodeling - Doors don't lock, bugs, no towels in the bathroom( need to walked downstairs because they forgot to leave it) have to change rooms because sliding door don't lock and new room had the same problem.
- Maria (4/5): Disappointed - The only thing we felt was worth the price was the view. We thought we booked it for $40 a night and it turned out to be $48 a night. When we checked out they only wanted cash. So we had to pay for a cab to take us to the ATM then pay for the cab to take us back to the hotel again so we could give them the cash. That was a real inconvenience for us since we were taking a bus to Chiapas in one hour. We will always pay on line when we book. Live and learn!
