Guest Reviews
- Lara (8/5): Definitely worth a visit and the views are amazing - Unique in its position and very well run, wonderful staff. Rooms beautifully renovated and very comfortable with fireplaces so probably very warm in winter. Not many guests staying there so dinner and breakfast were very quiet but we were well looked after. Lunchtimes are full with day visitors.
- Anne (10/5): A fabulous stay in an incredible location - We stayed in a newly renovated room which was beautiful and very comfortable. Service was excellent, even extending to lighting our fireplace and an evening turn down service complete with hot water bottles. Food was tasty and generous with a reasonable wine list. Location can’t be beaten, with views down over Sani pass. Nothing

- Elza (4/5): I would not stay here again - Breakfast was ok I sent them a long review. I found the kitchen not up to standard. Very expensive for what you get.
- Barnard (8/5): Unforgettable experience and amazing views - Amazing view and very cozy rooms with the fireplace The food was disappointing. I also did not appreciate us being booked into a room surrounded by construction. There were only two couples there the evening…A warning would have been nice.

- Elza (5/5): For the amount of money we had to pay the Hotel was not good value. - the dinner was not as expected. The staff in the kitchen could not cope with the 12 guests Even we ordered early in the afternoon because the service was so slow the previous night, the food was still late. The steak was underdone and we sent it back to be fried a bit more but they threw it away and we had to wait forever for the meat which they started fron=m scratch. Although the rooms look very luxurious they are not comfortable. there is no hanging space and there was only one bedside table. No easy access to the car(footpath) The fire was not made although they were told when to expect us.No contact between room and reception. The handle on the stove is broken. No glove to open the door of the fire. No shower mat. No soap. The toilet lid was broken. no place to put your clothes in bathroom. Waterglasses too small and we could not see a fire extinguiser. Obviously no one in management has ever spent a night in the hotel as a guest to experience the inconveniences.
- Botha (9/5): - Staff were really helpful
- JOHN (9/5): -
- Gabarinocheka (6/5): Horrible food - Their service was brilliant. Always happy to help, polite and professional. Their location too Their price is not value for money. Too expensive for accommodation provided. No hot water in the morning to shower coz the pipes were frozen (how about getting a boiler). Food served for dinner was unconsumable.
Maluti Bier sehr teuer
- Boshoff (9/5): -
- Sune (9/5): Overall and amazing expierance. - Its beautifully renovated. The views are stunning. The staff is friendly and very help-full.
- Guest (9/5): -
- Imraan (9/5): - Amazing location.
Very clean and cozy accommodation.
Friendly staff. Fireplace sucks all the air out of the room. It definitely warms up the rooms....but, to the point you need top open windows.
Better options to regulate temperature would be great.
- David (9/5): - Staff, food, accommodation was all excellent
- CHRISTINE (10/5): Séjour merveilleux!!! - Merveilleux !!!
- Bertus (6/5): - I think the food quality overall was not up to standard. Food quality
- Juliette (8/5): - Very warm room with beautiful fire , very welcome and good quality hot water bottle s
- Jolene (10/5): -
- Bruce (10/5): -
- Dokotela (10/5): The highest pub in Africa! But also an amazing view, great facilities and fellow travellers. - Well, the view! Then the cozy pub, the rooms which felt like true luxury in the middle of rugged nowhere. The buffet dinner and breakfast are excellent. We even got a special dessert made just for us that night (sorry everybody else!). Hot shower water when in the freezing fog is definitely a luxury! Nothing really.
- Bruce (10/5): - Fantastic!
- Rodrigues (10/5): Pleasant - Unique Nothing
- Van Niekerk (10/5): It was perfect, clean, and the food was amazing. We loved the fireplace and the warm water bottles. - Excellent
- Rene Taylor (8/5): - Hot water bottles, the view with breakfast and dinner included Lack of ventilation in the room.
- Christiaan (8/5): Still the most spectacular view - At the top of Sani pass so the view is just spectacular. The whole establishment had been refurbish from an earlier visit about a year ago so it is less rustic and more modern. The bar area still the same and the food still as good as before. Checking in is done online at arrival which works well. A carafe of sherry is a nice touch and so also the fireplace in the room. a bit too many blankets but then, it was really cold.
- Dieter (10/5): Sensationell!
In unserem schonen großen Zimmer erwartete uns sogar

- Marta (10/5): Amazing location in pristine part of Lesotho. The rooms are cozy, clean and well appointed - Location, fantastic staff, excellent food Nothing
- Karene (10/5): Special place, excellent staff, delish food, great wine ! - It was such a special adventure! Beautiful location, comfortable beds, lovely staff! Be prepared- it’s the top of a mountain so it’s windy! Go prepared!!
- Elsabe (9/5): Great ans relaxing with super friendly Staff. - Great food especially the tomato Soup was the best I ever had. Staff were so friendly and helpfull. We really had a great time staying at Sani Mountain Escape. Nothing
- Jono_Hall (9/5): - This iconic lodge is an absolute must to complete your Sani Pass experience. Stay for the views, the warm fires and the ability to reflect on the adventure it no doubt required to get there.
- Nanette (10/5): We will most definitely return - Breakfast and location perfect All was great
- Jeremy (10/5): Great views, great accommodation, great food and beer and lastly great staff - Great view and service, they are currently updating their buildings and the landscaping but does not deserve any criticism
- Daniel (7/5): Good Destination - Premium destination The staff did much to lighten up New Yrs...but the kitchen produces mediocre food. Booking can be awkward
- JulesR1 (8/5): Fabulous rooms with log fires and hot water bottles. Fabulous location, great pub. - Fabulous rooms and location The inclusive dinner and breakfast were substandard, especially considering the high rate we paid. Both our steaks at dinner were awful, tough and chewy. - Dry/hard 'bread' with starter dips, dry cake for dessert.. disappointed, especially for Christmas eve 😞
The bar meals however were excellent!!
- Veran (9/5): -
- Tomas (10/5): -
- ANDRE (3/5): Average - Location Unfriendly restaurant staff

- Sean (9/5): We absolutely loved us stay the food was great the location was amazing and the staff were super friendly and made the w - We had an amazing stay at the Sami Mountain escape the drive up was incredible and the property has a spectacular view amazing staff and is really good value for money. We also love the extra long hot water bottles they provided to keep us warm through the frosty night. No complaints at all about the property, the only small mention is that the sign and check-in process seems unnecessarily complicated
- Nicolas (8/5): Very good - The overhaul experience, the warm fire places Have to leave the door unlocked for maintenance
- Pierre (8/5): Awesome stay - Friendly Staff and they efficient and help where is needed
Lit the Fire in the Room and Supplied Extra Fire wood Everything was Good Thank you
- Moodley (5/5): Passable - Hot water turns to cold water in a matter of seconds in the shower. Very frustrating.
- Shandre (9/5): Superb -
- Glover (9/5): Superb -
- Karen (8/5): A trip to remember - Nothing to dislike. Everything was perfect thank you. The staff were awesome.
- Tukiya (10/5): The most special stay. - One of the most special stays we have ever had. Beautiful when it’s completely covered in fog and unbelievable when the fog clears. The (highest) bar (in Africa) offers a great view and cold or warm drinks — and the food choices were amazing. We struggled abit with the showers, as our room had some kind of technique to it that we couldn’t quite understand. The room was amazing and was kept warm by a fire (that the amazing team lit for us) & hot water bottles. A small respite before a day of intense 4x4 driving. Would definitely recommend (and will definitely be back).
- Dirkina (7/5): Very pleasant - The location is excellent
The food was good tasty and good variety.
The extra treats like hot water bottles was very special The room was very dark inside with no bed lamps at all We asked be there was none available
After dinner what do you do if you cannot read?We ended up going to bed at 9pm.
- Robert (7/5): Good -
- Gilberto (8/5): wonderful experience -
- Marcelle (8/5): Spectacular views - Beautiful views, food and chalets. Expensive though Drinks very Expensive
- Linda (10/5): Staff were friendly and room was very comfortable. Food was excellent. Enjoyed our stay! - Staff were friendly and helpful. Room was very comfortable.
- West (10/5): On top of the world - The view really is priceless, the staff were amazing and made us feel at home. I loved the homemade food and good banter at the bar. For the facilities the property is expensive, but as mentioned the view is priceless so it makes sense.
- Diane (10/5): A very comfortable stay made exceptional by the staff. - The location, the incredible staff, always cheerful and going the extra mile. Mokete behind the bar and Maneo in the dining room were just amazing. Thank you for making our stay so enjoyable.
The food was very good, one of the best breakfast omelettes I’ve had for years.
Lovely wood fire made in our room every evening and hot water bottles placed in the bed made sure we were super cosy. Nothing.
- Diane (10/5): A wonderful experience. - The wonderful staff. Nothing was too much trouble.
The amazing scenery and location. A little run down but it is at 3000m in the mountains with harsh weather conditions.
- Archary (9/5): Superb - Amazing staff hospitality and catering.
- Willie (9/5): Spending time in front of the fire in the pub and the view was amazing! - Breakfast was a lovely cooked and Buffet breakfast.
The setting at The Highest Pub in Africa is definitely a bucket list item for us. Just loved it!
The dude making the fire in your room early afternoon and the turn down service (hot water bottles installed in your bed) while you are out for dinner is a lovely touch.
The complimentary sherry in your room when you check in is also very welcome :)
Amazing service from everyone at the lodge, thank you. Loved everything.
- Sharon (9/5): Superb -
- Wayne (8/5): A bit disappointed that we were accused of removing towels when we were actually not supplied with any… - Most amazing view and always a good experience. Nothing not to like for you are!
- Rudi (9/5): Breathtaking view - Amazing views and friendly service
- Tom (9/5): A very pleasant surprise -
- Jacky (10/5): Fantastic Experience - We loved our stay. The most beautiful views from up there! The rooms were super cosy and the staff made every effort to keep the rooms warm with lighting the fireplace before guests go to bed and hot water bottles in the beds. Food was amazing. Staff are super friendly.
- Lauren (10/5): Exceptional -
- Vimal (8/5): Palace in the Sky - Staff work ethic is commendable. Nothing
- Christiaan (9/5): High in the mountains, beautiful scenery and great ambiance. - Both the dinner and the breakfast was great. Having any decent meal in such a remote location is a challenge and what they served were great considering the location. The fireplace and the hot water bottle was a welcome surprise and so too the sherry in the room. Great all over experience.
- Stephen (8/5): Very good -
- Hasa (9/5): Very good - Everything went well Nothing
- Ricky (8/5): Very good -
- Egidijus (7/5): Good - Very nice place, amazing atmosphere There was flammable liquid left in fire place and the house were smelling very bad, I had a headache from it and slept bad
- Denise (10/5): Fab stay except for the fire - Lovely little round house There is a log fire in the room and it had been lit for most of the afternoon/evening
My partner and I woke up in the night with severe headaches and a horrible dry mouth like we’ve never experienced before
In the morning when we woke our headaches were so bad and throats the same as well as dizziness and nausea
We checked the log fire chimney in the room and it was loose from the actual fire and the chimney joints were not sealed properly
My guess is that we had carbon monoxide poisoning as we both felt so ill until the following day
Please check the fires before a terrible accident happens
- Refilwe (10/5): Exceptional -
