Guest Reviews
- Giron (10/5): - La atención del personal!!
- Celia (10/5): -
- jennifer (10/5): I was one of the highlights of our trip. - It was peaceful and beautiful . The staff was awesome Nothing
- Guest (7/5): -
- Dany (10/5): -
- Tudor (4/5): 5* for staff, half that for the accommodation - The staff - the ones we interacted with - are very friendly and try to help you with all that you need. Language is a barrier if you don't speak Spanish.
The location, across the lake from the side where the amenities, shops and the airport are, is a short 10 minutes boat transfer, a service offered freely by the hotel, from early morning till late evening. You need to call them to pick you up from Flores, so data and WhatsApp are essential. It works quite well once you know the colours of the boat.
We did not eat at the venue as our days were full with visits and we ate elsewhere, so can't comment. The images used for marketing are quite a big departure from reality. Room 11 is a 3x3 m affair, and the balcony is as wide as the legroom in an economy class flight.
We endured sewage smell in the bathroom, as the shower does not have a draining hole, rather a slit in the wall which drains into the sewage pipe (photo). You'll need to block with a towel. The water faucets have cold and hot identified by the red and blue manually applied paint thumbprints. The showerhead leaks all over. The view from the balcony needs to be kept from horizontal upwards, otherwise you will be looking at remnants from building materials and other general rubbish.
The swimming pool was non functional and the state of it a far cry from the marketing photos.
We have been travelling in the most far flung corners of this planet and we think to have a fairly good idea of what a number of stars mean for a hotel.
This accommodation was a disappointment for what's on offer for the money charged for room 11.
- Jenny (7/5): Overall a good place to stay to explore Flores Island and Tikal - We loved the location in the jungle and on the lakefront. It was mostly quiet except for the place next door blaring their music. The food was very good, especially the pancakes, but the service was very, very slow. The staff was friendly and helpful. Getting a boat back and forth to the island was very quick and easy. Beds were comfortable and sheets were changed daily. We loved swimming in the lake. The construction/overall messiness of the place. Some broken and run down areas. Slow food service. Price seemed a little high for what you're getting.
- Agate (10/5): -
- Kathleen (8/5): A very nice stay. - Very nice staff. Helpful in arranging transfers. Interesting location on the shore of Lake Petén. Restaurant on site. Monkeys and birds. Swimming in the Lake. Ten minute boat ride to Flores. Lots of construction beginning early in the morning.
- William (5/5): Poor and Disappointing. - Not a lot to like really other than the view over the lake and the boat transfer back and forth. Tono, the boat driver, was great and available at all ours. Where to start? I need more than a box.
Very run down,
Hard bed so asked to move rooms which was allowed, thank goodness.
Ants running across the bed in both rooms.
Furniture poor.
Pool poor.
Jacuzzi poor.
Decking dangerously poor, not even swept down, so extremely slippy.
Not sure if there was a restaurant as it seemed to be a reception area with the upstairs area closed off.
For the money paid this was very very poor and I'm surprised to think that booking.com allow it on their site.
So much potential as in a fabulous location but just absolutely nothing about it that we can say we enjoyed.
- willet (4/5): -
- Oscar (9/5): -
- Kirsten (8/5): Beautiful lake view hotel surrounded by jungle. - Beautiful location, lush greenery and right on the water. Beautiful sunsets, comfortable beds and spacious rooms. Our bathroom had an occasional really foul sewage smell. The shower water pressure was extremely low. Our towel rack in the bathroom broke off. These are small details, but they still contributed to our overall experience.
- Friedo (9/5): Beautiful lakeside retreat - Amazing location, friendly service, quick complimentary boat shuttle during business hours 150 Q fee for the short boat Transfer outside business hours, there were lots of jet skis which made swimming not very safe at times
- Chrysanthi (9/5): It’s nice for a day. - Aby-is a great lady, supported us with our trip to Tikal and the back and forth.
Room was spacious, clean and had everything you need.
The hotel itself is in a remote location reached by boat-where you pre book. It works.
The place is really relaxing ans has nice views. Food wasn’t great. They would need to improve their menu.
- Kendal (10/5): - Everything was fantastic.
- Bried Margret (9/5): -
- Eloise (3/5): There are plenty of better hotels in Flores that have friendlier staff, better food and accurate descriptions of the pro - The room was modern and the shower had hot water The staff were standoffish and unhelpful. When we asked questions, they gave us either a yes or no answer and did not provide any further helpful information. This was the receptionist and the server the restaurant. They gave us a lower quality room than the one we booked and then at first refused to rectify it. After a discussion, they agreed to a solution which didn’t fully rectify the situation but was better.
The restaurant food quality was low. The server told us the mashed potato comes from an instant mash bag.
Finally, the hotel doesn’t look like the pictures. Much of the decking of the hotel is underwater, the hammocks are hovering over the water
- Copeland (10/5): - It's a cool jungle resort only accessible by boat ferry
- Ginger (10/5): - Wonderful! We'd stay again!
- Richard (10/5): - Everything, amazing staff and food! That I didn't stay longer here, it was amazing.
- Odi (9/5): - Helpful staff, there is a boat driver who’s always available to bring you to Flores, restaurant serves good food (we especially liked the pancakes with fruit for breakfast), the room was cleaned everyday with fresh towels and bedsheets.
- Manuel (8/5): -
- giron (10/5): -
- hugo (10/5): - exceptional service, and good food.
- Stefan (10/5): Entspannter Ort als Ausgangspunkt für Tikal - Freundliches Personal, tolle Lage, gutes Essen
- Emerson (10/5): Nice relaxing place - Was nice The pool
¡Totalmente recomendable!
- Sydnie (10/5): HIGHLY RECOMMEND - More than I expected so beautiful . A/c, beautiful scenery, the place is so nice. Nothing!
- Aurora (10/5): Our stay at Las Luciérnagas was the best way to end our trip to Guatemala. It was especially relaxing after allh hiking - The grounds are beautiful. The staff is attentive and helpful. We loved all the cozy spots to sit and enjoy. There is so much to do- restaurant, pool, kayaks, hammocks, comfy couches and stools by the water. They offer curtesy boat rides to and from Flores Island. It needs a few repairs, but the overall welcoming feel and greenery of the property overshadows that. No complaints.
- James (8/5): Very good - Fantastic location. Very nice staff. Clean, stylish room. Good communication. Good service at restaurant. Property is a bit shabby in places, but our room was great.
- Philip (7/5): Will be a fab place once it’s tidied up and rooms painted - Spacious outdoor area , quiet . Very friendly and helpful staff : waiters , receptionists , boatmen Needs quite a lot of maintenance work to reach a good standard . Outside area seemed neglected: construction debris , loungers were in poor state , pool wasn’t in good condition . Room needed repainting ,
- Milagros (10/5): Exceptional - Hospitality
- Ashley (8/5): Very good -
- Francesca (9/5): Superb - Amazing staff - very accomodating. The boat service to get around was really convenient too and we used the free kayaks. Great cocktails with a beautiful view. The restaurant could be improved but there are plenty of other options accesible by boat.
- Murti (1/5): Sewage smell in bathroom. Air conditioner has mold smell - This is about out booking at Las Luciernas aka now Fireflies hotel. The room we got looks absolutely Nothing like the photos. It is very dingy , has scratched furniture, has polyester sheets which are very scratchy , is small in size and the shower has mold and is not clean. The glasses were unclean. It was not disclosed at time of payment where the receptionist took the full amount. After I complained, she offered free breakfast for 2 days which is a very poor compensation. She said the actual room is under renovation and may be ready by Tuesday but there is no guarantee.
While we did switched to the newer room the next day, the shower there only had very hot water which led to us getting scalded. We complained, but they could not get it right. The bathroom had a horrible sewage smell after use which was absolutely disgusting. While all these issues were reported to the receptionist, she was unable to resolve it. Also at night, we had the property dog bark at us and we had to call for help. I was very worried about being bitten. There is nobody there at night in case of an emergency. The pool looks like it has been out of order for a long time. I complained to booking.com and they gave me a number. I contacted the number but they said they were thr owners friend and would pass my message to them. I never got a response.
Overall, avoid this hotel . The pictures are not true.
I waz traveling with my parents who are seniors and it is horribly inconvenient for us to change rooms, but we will take that option despite being out all day . We had a long journey, and are exhausted! This is too disappointing.
- Jeffrey (7/5): Expected more - Nice place to relax and very friendly staff and people working there. Food was also good, but limited in options and on higherly priced. For my last stay I wanted to treat myself with a bit more luxery. I found this place and was directly excited. The stay was oke, but I expected more. There is improvement to me made. I asked for a shuttle to the hotel for when I arrived at the airport, but once I got there no one was there. However, after making a call they arranged a transfer very quickly. The room is nice, the big window is amazing, but the shower was boiling hot, and I had very little cold water available in the room. Another downside is that the hotel is only reachable by boat, so you will be limited in your freedom. If you prefer to be able to be spontaneous and free I won’t recommend staying here. The boat goes once an hour, but between 7 and 22 they will do their best to go as much as possible. Only after these hours you will have to pay 150 local money, which is very expensive in my opinion for a boatride of 5 minutes. I reserved one at 4am to go on a tour, but they showed up too late for which I lost my tour that day. This was a big downside and something to take in account. However, the owner is a very kind and helpful men and will do everything to make your stay as pleasant as possible. Without asking they payed for the new tour I had to book and made sure the next morning the boat will go. They also treated me on a drink and dinner for the inconvenience. If you just want to relax this place is very nice, but if you want a bit more freedom I would not recommend it. For the price I had to pay I was disappointment and expected much more. The things that happend can happen and I don’t mind that much, but for a lower price would have been more fair. I stayed in better places that were much cheaper. The kayak was free to use which was nice. If they improve some things this place has good potential. Be aware there is construction happening on the site and it can be a bit noisy, but nothing to disturbing.
- Brigitte (8/5): Beautiful location and people - The personnel was really helpful and friendly and the location winderful Swimming pool was small but luckily we enjoyed swimming in the lake
- Laura (8/5): Very good -
- Malia (7/5): Good - The boat ride to this property from was always short and lovely. Transfer available every hour. Relaxing on the lounge chairs on the floating dock was on of our favorite ways to relax.
- Karin (4/5): Very disappointing and over priced - Friendly staff.
Location: easy to get to the island of Flores by boat shuttle Hotel grounds and rooms require investment and better maintenance. We had a terrible smell in our room due to poor canalisation. It ruined our stay. Also the air condition blows straight into your face and this is very uncomfortable. The windows had no fly screen and thus could not be opened without getting the insects in. On the balcony we had a wasp nest! After heavy rain our room was invaded by ants. The so called infinity pool is a very small pool and was not very inviting. The beach area was not taken care off. Not enough sun loungers and on top some were broken. The selection of food was very limited and for 4 days the same dishes were not available, the hotel did not stock up on fresh fruit and calamari . By no means this is a boutique hotel, rather a 2 star hostel.
- Niko (10/5): Very Romantic - The isolation and all the hotel have to offer
- Michele (8/5): Very good -
- Adrianna (8/5): Very good - Kind, helpful staff. The arranged tour to Tikal for us. Location is beautiful and quiet. Easy to get back and to forth to Flores. Rooms are clean. The room smelled musty and the bathroom smelled of sewage. Staff attempted to remedy the situation.
- Ashleigh (10/5): Beautiful, serene spot by the lake - Lovely, quiet, sophisticated spot on the edge of the lake. Can walk to the mirador of Flores in ten minutes or get to the island by boat. The hotel is very clean, chic, and stylish. Can swim in the lake and use the onsite restaurant or pool facilities. Having to get the boat is the only barrier to getting around. It leaves the hotel on the hour, and you need to let staff know you'll be taking it. When in Flores, you need signal to communicate with the staff to request pick up by boat. But all pick ups are free and the drivers so kind and friendly. They will where a white t shirt with the hotel name/logo on
- Calvin (9/5): Very relaxing stay at the hotel and helpfull staff - Service of staff and the boat trips to Flores The room interior could be improved with bedside lamps and nicer curtains.
- Parada (9/5): Superb - The rooms are very unique Staff always there to help and answer all we need
- Tanisha (9/5): Such a great stay!! Highly recommend - Loved this property so much, the staff were so accommodating before and during our stay. I loved the vibe this stay has nice and quiet.
- Jonah (9/5): Superb - Highlight was definitely the location on the lake which was truly a unique pleasure. The restaurant was simple but good. The rooms were well sized and comfortable. Nice staff. No gym. The pool was freezing and underwhelming.
- Catherine (8/5): It was a comfortable and pleasant accommodation overall with helpful staff. - Staff were very nice, unusual location. The bathroom and sleeping was open plan so the shower and bath were in the same room as the bed. As I was sharing with my daughter this didn’t give us any privacy when we wanted to take a shower, we took turns leaving the room.
- Elizabeth (9/5): Great places for families and couples. - The lake was beautiful. The hotel had a lot of activity options. We took out the kayaks to cruise the lake, rested on the hammocks and swam in the lake. We loved the sunset and the food was great! The front area still needs to be finished. The hotel is still being remodeled. It will be even better when the work is done.
- Layla (10/5): Exceptional -
- Gabrielle (10/5): An absolute gem! - Absolutely beautiful hotel with everything you need for a relaxing and comfortable stay. The staff were incredibly kind and attentive, the grounds were GORGEOUS, rooms were impeccably clean, and their many lake-front decks and lounging areas made it the perfect place to relax and enjoy the scenery. We were in Guatemala during a heat wave and we were SO thankful to be staying at Luciernagas where we could float and relax in the lake or the pool instead of in Flores itself where the heat was quite oppressive. Guests can get to town and back with a free hourly boat. This was our favorite place we stayed during our Central America trip and an excellent place to unwind. The hotel has inner tubes, kayaks, plenty of hammocks, a friendly dog (Fibo!), and plenty of friendly staff to make you feel right at home. Really, really loved this place and highly recommend. We loved Luciernagas so much that we actually didn't go into Flores as much as we originally thought we would, which means we wound up eating a lot of our meals at the hotel. Everything was great (especially the breakfasts and drinks!), but we would have loved some more traditional Guatemalan options on the menu as well.
- Eline (10/5): Amazing staff & great views - We stayed at the resort for 4 days. We had a kind welcome by the staff. They helped us with our luggage and gave us a free upgrade to a bigger room. The staff is very friendly and adorable, they helped us in different ways. They were very kind, talkative, helpful, professional, and went out of their way to ensure a pleasant stay. The breakfast is delicious, filling, fresh, and affordable: the yogurt bowl comes with a lot and different type of fruits. The view of the hotel is super nice, with this lake, and the animals like iguanas, monkeys, and squirrels. Definitely the perfect place to relax and recharge your battery! They offer a free boat service in which they pick you up and drop you off at the main island. It was very flexible and they were always on time. They were always very responsive on Whatsapp which was nice. They always replied within a few minutes. The thing that stood out the most was that the attention to the client was very distinguished and this bought to an high satisfaction from our side. HIGHLY recommended! Thank you for the pleasant stay:)
- Laura (10/5): Lovely, wish we had more time on our trip to hang out on the dock hammocks - The front desk, restaurant, and boat staff service was exceptional. They were so kind and responsive on the WhatsApp. The boat picked us up/dropped us off in Flores whenever we were ready to return. The hammocks and sunsets were so lovely and relaxing. I wish we had spent less time at our previous hotel (in a different town) and more time here.
- Michal (10/5): Wifi and AC 10/10 working really well. The staff was really nice and helpful. Delicious breakfasts. - Wifi and AC 10/10 working really well. The staff was really nice and helpful. Delicious breakfasts.
- Jose (10/5): Great hotel , would highly recommend and would stay again . Location was great and the hotel ha a great system to be tak - Location was peaceful and very accessible to Flores via a short boat ride . Wish a mini fridge was provided to keep cold water / left overs in room .
- Oscal (9/5): Lindo lugar, confortable -
- Jackie (8/5): Relaxing and chilled - It’s really hard to review this hotel. The staff are great, friendly, charming, helpful. The boat man always helpful taking us to a restaurant in the evening, picking us up from Flores. But the hotel itself isn’t quite finished. The pool was green so we couldn’t use it. Not really a problem as the lake is right there. The restaurant said they couldn’t do shrimp, then they could, then they only had one cold beer left but the cocktail at sunset was fab. The canoes are great - we took them over to Flores for breakfast but one leaks! Our room was huge. Air con great. Amazing amazing views. Great shower . But then grey polyester bed sheets. None of its a huge problem but luxury it just isn’t ( yet)! It’s a v relaxing place to hang out for a few days with probably the best views in the area.
- John (5/5): This is not a Boutique hotel and we paid way too much for a hotel of this standard - Nice location , helpful staff. This should not be described as a Boutique hotel. Restaurant was a beach bar. No patio attached to the room as described and there should be a hairdryer in the hotel. The shower should drain but the shower area was completely flat. The price was roughly double what the hotel should have charged
