Guest Reviews
- Jonathan (5/5): Passable - The cottage has been refurbished to a high standard and the owners have obviously given thought to what makes a viable holiday home (though we'd have liked more lighting downstairs, as these terraces can be quite gloomy). The kitchen is well-equipped, the bathroom spacious, and the location very central. There is a small garden, shared with the next cottage; it's not explained well how to reach it, but you use the second key to go through the closed alley next to the house. A parking permit for the central car parks was arranged for us, which was essential, as you can't park on the street at all (though there is disc parking round the corner, along from George Fisher, which is useful for short periods). Unfortunately, a nice house is being managed sloppily. Our bedding was unchanged since the previous occupant, with hair still visible on the pillows. We only discovered this on going to bed the first night, so had to live with it until the next morning, which was unpleasant. The milk in the fridge was a week old, the bleach bottle in the bathroom was empty, and there was no wood for the woodburner (I know it was September, but this is Cumbria; if it's wet and there's a fire, you want to light it). For £200 per night we expect better. I thought it interesting that the management provide no welcoming feature - no 'enjoy your stay' note, biscuits, whatever. It doesn't matter in itself; I only mention it because it reinforces the sense of this being an impersonal, corporate experience - the Premier Inn of Lake District cottages.
