Guest Reviews
- Pun Tai (Edward) (10/5): Cozy property and lovely host - Spacious property and the host was lovely, very responsive. Nothing
- Eleanor (8/5): Would recommend if in the area! - Super easy pick up for the keys and easy to find the house - was cosy in the living room and easy to adjust heating, access the TV and wifi etc. Bed was super comfy in the main room with good mattress. Good location if you want to access peak district as well as surrounding area. Would have been helpful to have plug socket near the bed to charge phones etc rather than the other side of the room (but this is small issue).
- andrew (8/5): Great value and location - Good little place, for the money you can’t really complain about much as long as not safe to use. Well decorated and furnished and close to the castle and hardwick where we were visiting the day after Few breakages and things not working, the cleaning isn’t being kept up with as far as furniture and beds being moved to clean under etc, auto bin batteries or bin itself not working so have to use fingers to get it open, but as I say incredible value all in all
- Cara (9/5): - Spacious, comfortable, and had all listed amenities. Friendly host with good communication.
- Stacey (9/5): - Loved the house and the location and dan so helpful when needed to be No shower and mattress very hard
- Maritsa (7/5): - large home, lovely location, great communication from host. good kitchen. uncomfortable bed and we were kept awake by light from solar panel installation. bedding and kitchen towel not clean. would have liked to have had a shower but that wasn't an option (bath only).
- jadey (8/5): One night stay - The closeness to everywhere we wanted to see, great location to visit castles!
Our host Dan was very accommodating House was really cold on arrival only 9° and took a long time to heat up but it is winter & fully appreciate heating is expensive when no-one is in the rental
- Krzysztof (8/5): -
- Sarush (8/5): -
- Quentin (8/5): Excellent stopover near M1 - nicer and cheaper than Travelodge. - Excellent value and excellent communication with Dan the host, including letting us check out late.
- Stephanie (9/5): -
- Gazzmo (8/5): -
- Colin (10/5): - The place was absolutely brilliant can not fault the place
Great information from owner highly recommended

- Stephanie (9/5): Great - Very comfortable stay A shower would be useful.
- jane (8/5): Very nice - Lovely property There was no shower attachment in bath taps which made for a show morning getting ready.
Was chilly and couldn’t adjust heating
- Deanna (10/5): - Easy to find and access. Good clean space with a fully equipped kitchen and dining area. Comfy living room. Bedrooms were clean and comfortable. We had a good stay and would definitely consider staying again when visiting family/going into Nottingham for a concert at the Motorpount Arena. Nothing.
- Greg (10/5): -
- Jacky (9/5): -
- Bravo Rosa (6/5): Mejoras - Pasamos una noche solo así que bien. Para mejorar, echamos de menos algún útil de cocina mas como ensaladera o así, y que no funcionaba la calefacción,
- Guest (5/5): Host was very pleasant but disappointed with accommodation - Nice & quiet No on site parking, although Booking. Com says there is. No shower, no local information available, lights flickered when turned on & bedroom one didn’t work one evening. Solar panel equipment right next to main bed with green light in your eyes all night, no fire safet6 equipment in kitchen, although wired in alarm. Oven & trays dirty
- Lochman Scotland (10/5): -
- Christine (8/5): Value stay in a great location. - Excellent location for National Trust, English heritage and more attractions. Easy to park and comfortable beds to sleep in. A couple of minor issues that the owner has sorted.
- Louise (10/5): Only stayed for one night but would have loved to stay longer. The house was beautiful and clean, very comfortable. Well - Beautiful place I wanted to move in ☺️ The location wasn’t very close to any shops
- ffatbloke (8/5): - Available well equipped and very helpful owner. This was a two bedroom house equipped for a couple and up to three children with two small beds and a cot. The property was pleasant enough for our needs. The area around the property was run down and untidy
- Antony (7/5): Clean, comfortable & good value - The property has been renovated inside & was comfortable, & quiet location. Only stayed one night but it was a good stopover for us. Dan was helpful & recommended good restaurant in town for dinner.
A little surprise was coming out of property & turn left down the street & you come to a pretty wooded area & stream. Wasn’t keen on location when we arrived, was concerned about on-street parking though it was fine, & neighbourhood was quiet.
- Mauveen (10/5): Enjoyed bolsover met some lovely characters castle amazing - Beautifully modernised tastefully and comfortably furnished
- Sharon (10/5): -
- Susan (10/5): Exceptional - Lovely and tastefully decorated. Beds really comfy. Extra little.comforts supplied. Nothing really
- Jacky (9/5): Superb - My second visit. The house is beautifully decorated, the kitchen has everything you might need. Love the bath! Seating area outside with bench. TV in living room and main bedroom. Shop within walking distance.
I will definitely come back again. Stairs are quite steep, but sturdy handrail and if I can manage so will most of you.
- John (7/5): Good -
- Kerrie (9/5): Superb - Amazing location , great facilities. Dan is an amazing and friendly host. Would throughly recommend staying here.
- Ria (7/5): great host - good communication -
- Jack (10/5): Ideal place, everything needed was there. Great host with great communication. Would use again - Lovely little place, quiet location. Great surrounding areas for walking the dog. Friendly locals. Wasn’t really a dislike as such, but no shower. First time I’ve had a bath in about 10 years but made a nice change to relax.
- Matthew (10/5): Great place, great host. - Great place. Location was good - plenty of dog walks right on the doorstep and only a 15 min walk up into the centre where all the shops, restaurants and bars are.
- Ian (10/5): Exceptional - Quiet location, larger than anticipated, well equipped, comfortable beds, and a VERY HELPFUL host. Thank you Dan!
- Natasha (9/5): Relaxing and enjoyable - Lovely place. Great location.
- Lydia (9/5): Superb - A really lovely home from home, comfy, homely, had everything we needed, with the biggest bath I've ever seen! Tea, coffee, sugar and even milk in the fridge. Couldn't of asked for more
- Kelly (10/5): Exceptional - Great place we always enjoy our stay
- Jess (9/5): Relaxing and peaceful - We liked how clean everything was. Came with tea, coffee, sugar and milk. Quiet neighbours Steep stairs
- Matthieu (4/5): Disappointed... 😞 - Really disappointed... I've been travelling frequently for many years, always using booking.com and following rating > 8 so I booked with good expectation since I could read good comments.
I arrived at 7pm. No problem, I received message previously with key code.
But it was really dark outside (problem in the neighbourhood?) so I had to use my torch light to put the key and open the door.
When I entered the flat, it was pretty cold (heating no working, and surprisingly it turned on automatically day after at 8am), and felt really alone. Globally speaking the flat seemed to have nice decoration but looking closely it was pretty old / no maintenance. In the room, no switch button to switch off light close to the bed, I had to get up and pull down a cord. Many cables around, looking not so nice. Bathroom : vintage indeed but no heating and super not confortable to take a shower standing up! Or throwing water all around...
I wouldn't say it is a bad option/accommodation but definitely not worth the rating and different comments.
And by the way, it was not possible to close windows... Slightly opened, with no heating. Not nice!
- Kelly (10/5): Great value for money and comfortable - Great place and owner is lovely. We have stayed here twice now and also comfortable and quiet Nothing
- Gaily (10/5): Relaxing Northern Hug 🤗 🤗 - We had the most delightful stay! The bed was absolutely divine – so comfortable I didn’t want to leave it in the morning. A bedside table would have been handy, but honestly, the comfort made up for it. The bath was a dream, and I’m gutted I only stayed one night – next time, I’m definitely making time to soak!
The host Dan was fantastic – his communication was speedy and the thoughtful touches like fresh milk, tea, coffee, and even ice in the freezer made us feel right at home. The location couldn’t have been better. A lush curry house and a peaceful woodland walk right at the end of the road? Ideal for us and my dog!
We even managed a proper lie-in, as the area was so blissfully quiet – a real treat for us, being used to the hustle and bustle of Bristol city life.
What really stood out was the warmth of the local community. The ladies at the tea shop by the castle were so lovely, and lunch at the Sanctuary was perfect – delicious food, relaxed vibes, and a welcoming spot for both humans and lazy pups. This place truly felt like a proper northern hug, Can’t wait to return! I could only stay one night due to our work commitments but will pop back for a long lazier weekend.
- Franklin (9/5): Superb -
- Rob (9/5): Lovely, characterfull house. - Spacious, well equipped and comfortable. A really nice place. Super convenient for the motorway too. Solar panel control panel was quite bright in the bedroom.
- Ricardo (7/5): Ok place to stay for a day or two -
- Sarah (9/5): Clean and comfortable - A home from home environment instead of a hotel.
Tea, coffee, fresh milk and squash available.
- Yvette (8/5): Very good -
- Lauranceg (9/5): Superb -
- Sidlow (10/5): Exceptional -
- Lee (10/5): Great stay, - Clean, spacious, great amenities. Host was very helpful and on hand if we would have needed anything.
- Amg987 (10/5): Exceptional - The house is in a great location to easily get to both Chesterfield and Mansfield, even Sheffield. There was always on street parking available close to the property too. The street was very quiet and the surrounding area is nice, we would definitely book again.
- Jane (9/5): Great location for a stopover! - The location was very good - a short (steep) drive to the main town. Within easy access to the motorway. Spacious property. Nothing!
- Madaline (10/5): Home away from Home! - The tub! Amazing, followed by the comfort of the master bedroom bed. kitchen had everything I needed, living room lovely and cozy. Access to Youtube and utilized it to play relaxing music. Beautiful Home, close to so many ventures and the main one for my visit was the Bolsover Castle and also became a yearly member. I slept like a baby as it was so quite, you can hear a pin drop :-) I will consider staying again as still so much to see and do at Bolsover! Thank you! I love everything the house has to offer!!!
- Terry (10/5): Exceptional -
- Ben (9/5): Superb -
- Deborah (7/5): Good - The downstairs of the property is lovely and is very comfortable The bed in the main room is very low and there weren’t any bedside tables. The boiler and solar panel electricity unit are in the main bedroom. Although the bathroom is lovely, the bathtub is very small
- Darren (9/5): Lovely home stay in Bolsover - The property is well equipped, easy to find and comfortable.
The bathroom is lovely and the beds were very cosy.
Had no issues with communication and if available on my next trip to chesterfield and surrounding areas I would rebook in a second.
Extremely good value for money The step down from the kitchen could be a hazard and a small incline would be an improvement.
The master bedroom houses the heating system and is a little noisier than expected.
- Peter (8/5): A property that is good value for money - Spacious with good facilities . Modern and stylish interior. Nothing really
- Pauline (7/5): Good - We booked the house as a base for where we were visiting. A country park was at the end of the road which we explored more the day we left and was a beautiful find. The place was clean and comfortable and well equipped. Some effort had been made to make the outside appealing. The bedroom I used had the boiler in and some kind of storage? heater which had very bright lights which I had to cover during the night. There was a lamp in the room but nowhere to plug it in, there being sockets only on far side of the bedroom, despite description stating otherwise. The place had an unfinished look about it and the little step up into the kitchen caught me and my friend out a few times. No gates on front and back areas to keep the dog in.
- Mandy (6/5): Good location, property needs some finishing, parking a issue - Location was super for the castle The property needs more attention all the basics are in place but things need to be finished off. Smelt when first arrived, seemed to have been shut up for a while. Car parking was a issue with the bus turning circle outside the property, had to park up the road outside other houses, not ideal
- Kayleigh (10/5): Exceptional - The host was very welcoming, telling us about what was in the area and asking about our journey etc. Lovely big house and immaculately clean even for a dog friendly stay Heating system in the main bedroom is quite noisy at night and the lights flashing on the unit on the wall weren't ideal but still managed a decent night sleep.
- Gina (10/5): Great short break to meet up with friends. - Comfortable bed. Good quality appliances. Friendly welcome. Nice local walks for the dog. Stairs are steep which might be an issue for some people.
- Esther (10/5): Gorgeous house - The house itself was gorgeous and great value for money. The hosts were very easy to communicate with. Will definitely book again. Lack of private parking but you can always find somewhere on the street to park with no issues.
- Ashley (6/5): Pleasant -
- Heather (9/5): Exactly what we needed - Comfortable and clean, the host was very friend and accommodating. We were attending an event and couldn’t be sure of our check in time and the host was very understanding of this. Heating works great so a warm and cozy evening after a long day was exactly what we needed!
- Malcolm (8/5): Quiet, comfortable stopover. - Quiet residential area. Easy street parking. Lovely bed. Well equipped kitchen. Effective heating. I'd prefer a shower.
The energy storage unit in the bedroom is bright and hums.
- Stephanie (10/5): Exceptional - The property was very clean, comfortable, and well equipped with everything we needed during our stay. The property is finished to a high standandard. The host was very helpful and quick to respond to any questions we had. Would definitely recommend this place to anyone looking to book in this area.
- Arturs (10/5): Exceptional -
- Chris (9/5): As expected from previous reviews and perfect after a long journey. - Very tidy accommodation and maintained to a high standard.
Property owner was very friendly and informative. Nothing to note.
- Chris (10/5): Exceptional -
- Smith (10/5): Exceptional -
- Hodgkins (10/5): absolutly amazing - This was an amazing stay,we booked christmas week and it was like home from home absolutly loved it.was able to take the dogs too..will definitely rebooking..when we got home we noticed we had left a number of items and the man who owns this property couldnt do enough to make sure are items was posted back to us safely
- Wayne (8/5): Perfect weekend retreat. - Lovely little house for a weekend away. All mod cons. Warm and cosy. No garden to speak of, but if you're out and about as we were, it's not needed. Very quiet area with a nature reserve at the end of the street. Near several English Heritage sites. Dogs were welcome which was a bonus for us. Lovely owner who was on the end of the phone if needed. We would recommend. Toilet seat, but the owner is now changing this, so will not be an issue for further guests in the future.
- Brian (10/5): All round great experience - Nice and clean with everything you should need when staying away from home.the automatic bin was a nice touch haha love me some tech Nothing
- Anonymous (10/5): great stay, fantastic host was very attentive and made sure we had everything we needed. will definitely stay again if w - home from home, everything you need, smart tv and bath a nice touch
- Kelly (10/5): great price and location for what we needed - nice and clean . quite spacious for what we needed it was obvious that there where a few bits that hadn’t been completely finished after renovation how ever this didn’t detract from our stay
- Katie (10/5): Fantastic stay, enjoyed it. - Well situated, clean and a lovely property. Nothing
- Jo (3/5): Beware, not ready - It was convenient as we had just had a house fire and needed accommodation. The property is not ready to let, needs at least 6 weeks more work if not more.
The back garden is unusable.
Conservatory is not completed, with exposed waste pipes.
Exposed holes in kitchen.
Kitchen cupboards were full of brick dust.
Oven was dirty.
Bathroom incomplete, waste water just pours on to conservatory roof and garden. The walls were covered in plaster ,which I had to clean.
Front garden was full of DIY debris, owner cleared after complaints.
Bins were full of rotten waste.
Washing machine was broken, had to be replaced.
Fireplace has not been sealed properly.
Exposed sockets in places.
We eventually left 3 days early as a tap blew outside leading to no hot water and heating, we could not put up with the properties faults or stress any longer.
