Guest Reviews
- Margaret (9/5): A wonderful stay at this charming cottage - Lovely, clean, well decorated cottage. Very quiet area in a charming village There was no view and the bed was too soft
- kerryn (10/5): -

- cheri (7/5): Quirky, homely in a good location, fine for a few days. Not luxury though. - Close enough to walk into the harbour. We had no issues with parking. The owner was very helpful and eager to make our stay a good experience. Character fisherman’s cottage. Comfy bed and clean sheets. Big bedroom. Log fire in the living room made it feel homely. Shower was hot. Milk, tea, coffee and toilet rolls provided. It is an old fisherman’s cottage and very quirky which is probably why the bathroom is cramped and the toilet is cold. The hot water wasn’t switched on when we arrived and took over 24hrs to get warm- the owner was helpful though and responded quickly to my questions. The number of stairs is highlighted in the description but a trip to the toilet at night is a bit of an adventure even for someone fit and small like me- but I didn’t really like it. I didn’t appreciate that the back door opens onto a shared back street- so no outside space.
- Andy (9/5): Had a lovely stay at Samphire Cottage, a cozy old fisherman’s cottage and a great bolt hole for enjoying Porthleven, jus - Cosy cottage, great location, loved the log burner Nothing
- neil (10/5): -
- Tamzin (8/5): Unfortunately we had an issue with the water in the bath. We messaged via Booking.com but didn’t get a response. We just - Nicely presented. Beautiful bedroom and great location. Nothing
- Jan (9/5): Lovely place so close to everything - Lovely place Just the stairs if you’ve got mobility issues. Thankfully I don’t
- Jan (9/5): Magical place - It was a great location. The cottage was big enough for me , quirky little place with everything you needed. Not suitable for any with mobility issues The fire was great but took a lot of work to keep the place warm.
- Kathy (10/5): Perfect cottage, location and facilities - The property was lovely, a beautiful little cottage with all you can ask for inside including an amazing wood burner for cosy winter nights. The bed was exceptionally comfortable. Located in a great position, easy to park on the street and just a two minute walk to the harbour.
Fresh cookies, fruit, bread, and milk on arrival were a delightful treat to walk into.
The owner was helpful and friendly.
- Louise (7/5): It was good to be able to walk into town from the property. - There was a noticeable depression in the mattress on both sides.
The parking can be a bit difficult at times.
- Andrea (9/5): Perfect little cottage right in the town. - Close to the town. Easy parking. Lovely cottage. Comfy bed. Nice coffee and tea supplied. Woodburner was lovely. The kitchen was chilly but it was an exceptionally cold weekend. Downstairs loo and bathroom may be difficult for some people.
- Greaney (10/5): Comfortable, quite, warm, friendly - Location was very good, ideal for shops bus routes. The weather if anyone could ever control it.
- David (6/5): Clean but cold. - Good location, very clean, useful appliances (dishwasher etc). Reasonably priced for Xmas week. Very cold, very steep stairs (particularly to the kitchen) and toilet access isnt great if you have medical conditions which mean you get up during the night. Very narrow and dark streets with sometimes limited parking. Route from back door very uneven and dark.
- Adrian (5/5): Not quite the standard of accom we usually choose - We regularly visit the area to visit family and we like Porthleven so location was great. The cottage was cold and felt damp on arrival and it took time to feel warm. Didn’t realise when booking the rooms were arranged over 3 floors.
Everywhere was clean enough but we usually expect a better finish, in terms of hotel “stars” I’d say this was just to say managed a 3 star, mainly because of location whereas we usually like a good quality 4 Star.
Leaving more logs for fire would be good but I wouldn’t recommend staying here in colder weather (and we live in a draughty rural house)
Apologies but we wouldn’t stay again.

- Gardner (6/5): Nice little cottage, very clean -- but a long walk to the loo and poor kitchen equipment. - There are two aspects of the cottage which reduced our pleasure. One is the distance between the bedroom and the toilet... a two-flight walk up and down quite narrow, steep stairs. We realise that this is not possible to change, but for older people like ourselves, it does rather disrupt one's sleep. Secondly the cooking implements/ facilities are sub-standard. The cutting knives were pretty blunt -- and the cheap aluminium pans are already fairly damaged and unpleasant to use. Investment in better cooking utensils would improve the situation. These two aspects of the stay reduced our enjoyment -- we will not be staying here again, even though it is very close to our son's house, who we were visiting.
- Donna (6/5): Overall it is a comfortable property. - Bedroom is nice an spacious good storage-clean bed very comfortable.
Well equipped The stairs are a bit steep not for elderly people.
Bathroom and toilet in the kitchen area no sink in the toilet.
Fan doesn’t work in the toilet.
- Sarah (9/5): Superb - The bedroom was lovely and great location
- Heather (10/5): Exceptional - Perfect little cottage for two. Beautifully furnished with everything you need in a holiday home. Perfectly situated, short walk to the harbour and all the lovely shops and eateries. A pure delight.
Thank you Fiona for making us feel welcomed in this lovely place. Parking:( to be expected though. Had to park a little away from the cottage but not a huge issue.
- Julie (8/5): Very good - Lovely decorations, cute compact cottage Stairs were very steep from living area to kitchen and bathroom
- Quinton (8/5): Lovely little character cottage in the perfect location. Would definitely stay again. - Great location, lovely character features, very clean, on a quiet street, includes everything you could neen. The property was lovely but if I was super critical I’d say the shower could do with being more powerful, the window on the front door would benefit from having a blind and the TV mounted on the wall/being a little bigger (not that you need the TV when you have such stunning harbour views 5 minutes down the road!
- Ian (10/5): Exceptional - The house was great and had everything that we needed and the location was great also. A lovely place to visit with beautiful scenery.
- Kjv (7/5): Great location, adequate stay. - Easy reach of the harbour with a lovely deli.
The bed was comfortable and the bedroom a generous size. Although the property is advertised as dog friendly the folder that we were advised to look through had so many ‘rules’ about what you could or couldn’t do it actually made the stay an anxious one. Discovering that black dogs were not permitted because of the pale blue sofa was a surprise!
The toilet was so tiny it was claustrophobic. I am not particularly tall but had to bend a little and make sure my head was in the right place before I could wash my hair using the shower, the silicone seal around the bath top needs attention. The sitting room was full of character but not bright as advertised.
The space to the rear of the property was a shared alleyway that was not very appealing, you certainly wouldn’t want to sit out there and look at a wall.
- Pablo (7/5): Good -
- Todd (9/5): Perfect for a couple (and our little dog) - Great little cottage in an amazing location to enjoy the Harbour of Porthleven and beyond.
- Ann (10/5): Amazing will book again xx - Everything very nice
Loved it Nothing
- Lizzie (6/5): Lovely cottage ideal for 1! - Great location. Comfy bed. Well appointed. Chilly lounge and loo. Quite tricky to shower if you’re tall
- Nichola (10/5): Lovely cottage! - Lovely cottage and lots of attention to detail that made all the difference. There decor was very carefully designed. Very comfy bed! Ideal location. There isn't anything we didn't like but the only thing I would have changed was that as a dog friendly property it would have better if carpet and furnishings weren't so light in colour. Although regardless of colour we took great care - the cream sofa and light carpet added a bit of stress as our weather was very rainy. You step inside the front door and only have a very small area of doormat for two adults to take off wet coats, boots, dog lead and sort wet dirty dogs out before you hit the pale carpet etc. In the summer/on dry days, this wouldn't be an issue.
- Sheena (9/5): Brillant - It's just my preference like upstairs toilet and bathroombr
- Suzan (7/5): Good -
- Carl (7/5): Very pleasant and nice 👍 - A nice base to explore Porthleven Parking was dog eat dog but it’s Cornwall, Shower/bathroom and stairs being over 6ft tall did not help some parts of the place could do with some TLC but l am in the building trade and can be fussy
- Anonymous (8/5): Very good -
- Brett (10/5): Brilliant! - Well equipped and presented, ideal location for strolling around and taking advantage of the facilities of Porthleven. The strairs took a day to get used to as we live in a bungalow!
- Scott (8/5): Extremely enjoyable . Lovely cottage and a lovely seaside village - The presentation . Location and the bed ! Run out of toilet roll lol
- Gardner (7/5): Nice facilities, well-kept and clean cottage for younger couples - Very comfortable, well kept, good facilities I would not recommend this cottage for (older?) people who need to go (often?) to the loo in the night. You have to walk down two flights of narrow stairs from the bedroom to the basement kitchen/bathroom. In all other respects it is a good place to stay.
- Paul (10/5): Perfect - Great location and a perfect size for two people. The character of the cottage is perfectly suited to the town. Host was amazing, incredibly helpful and supportive. We stayed in the property for our wedding and couldn’t have wished for a more amazing place. Thanks. Nothing
- Laura (7/5): Lovely homely cottage, good value for money😊 - The cottage was lovely with lots of quirky features. The bedroom was beautiful and the bed was very comfy. Was lovely sitting eating in the kitchen, very cosy. Over all was very good value for money. The ceilings are low in the shower, bit of a problem if you are over 6 foot tall. Toilet very small and no sink for washing hands. Would have liked a tv in the bedroom but this is just personal preference.
- Heather (8/5): Very good - Well stocked kitchen cooking materials and good oven/stovetop. Conveniently located to centre of town. Stairs treacherous for anyone with mobility issues but safe enough if taken carefully and slowly.
- Anonymous (7/5): Porthleven, one of my favourite places. - Unique traditional fisherman’s cottage. Some of the fixtures and fittings could do with updating.
- Charlotte (9/5): Superb -
- Jayne (7/5): Quirky fisherman's cottage handy to town & the lovely harbour. - Quirky fisherman's cottage. Handy to town. Quiet area & the parking was easy. Bedroom on top floor is lovely. On a chilly weekend, the heating was not adequate especially the basement where the toilet & bathroom was. Stairs can be tricky as the cottage is on 3 floors. Couldn't get the TV to work.
- Martin (10/5): Exceptional -
- Martin (9/5): Superb -
- Caroline (8/5): Very comfortable - Lovely cottage Shower over bath
- Katie (10/5): Wonderful stay in Porthleven - Awesome dog friendly cottage in a great location in Porthleven. Parking available right outside. Really well equipped and nice touches like nespresso machine included.
Bedroom was beautiful and bed so comfy. Only suited for two adults really as one bedroom. Didn’t matter for us but if you had limited mobility at all this property would not work for you, it is over 3 levels and the stairs are very steep with low ceilings.
Toilet on ground floor, bit of a pain but nothing you can do.
Ceiling in shower is very low, again no real issue but something to consider if you were very tall.
