Guest Reviews
- Browell (8/5): -
- Adrian (10/5): -
- Lee (5/5): Cheap rooms, friendly staff and nice food - Cheap stay and friendly staff Rooms could do with a little TLC
- Richard (3/5): Needs (much) improvement ... but where to begin? - Proximity for Midlands Air Festival
Barmaid we saw (briefly) on the Friday evening very polite and helpful as was the Chef. Arrived back at 8pm on Saturday to find place closed (fortunately Barmaid had advised how to get in if back late when we arrived on Friday) Did not see any staff at all between Breakfast on Saturday Morning and leaving the following day. No Coffee available with breakfast, only one option (Full English) has to be ordered night before so unable to order on Saturday. Room could have done with a proper clean. Only two plug sockets in room. Fire exits were blocked with clutter. Access to the room through the bar was via a messy storage room
- Kirby (6/5): - The location for ragley hakl The pub was shut up on a Saturday night at 9.30 pm
- Daniie (5/5): - The pub was nice and the staff were lovely. The man who checked us in was nice. The lady who went out of her way to help us and give us extra biscuits and coffee etc was lovely and pleasant to chat to. The room was really small which felt like a shock as it felt bigger in the pictures but it was cute so its ok. The bathroom floor was covered in dirt and hair. The shower was rusty. There was no soap at the sink. The windows were open so there was 3 massive spiders in the bathroom so we shut the bathroom door and had to use the main pub toilets all night. Every time someone moved upstairs you could hear it super loud and sounded like the ceiling was falling. Whenever someone had a shower or toilet it was really loud in the room. loads of cobwebs everywhere. The kettle had been stolen (repeatedly) so we had to ask for one and when we were shown the separate entrance (from inside) to use during the night, we weren't told how to get there from the outside. So when we came back at midnight we went through a back gate which led to a mess of glasses, mud, rubbish, a broken umbrella to climb over only to realise it was the wrong way. Springy uncomfy beds
- Fleur (7/5): -
- Paul HICKS (5/5): Better than camping! - This was the best located for 2 days work at Astwood Bank.
The shower worked, and maintained good flow and consistent temperature.
Access in and out was easy.
Loved the ceiling light, remote controlled for white and various coloured options.
Heating worked. TV didn't work for any freeview channels (lack of signal), and this wasn't addressed when it was reported.
The window in the room wouldn't latch closed, so was constantly open.
Breakfast was offered, and even booked, but then withdrawn because of lack of knowledge on restrictions.
Bed wasn't comfortable.
One bedside lamp did not work.
No bin in the room... just in the en-suite.
- James St8ckland (10/5): Nice clean and welcoming place - The staff especially ruby were friendly and attentive
Seems like the new owners are trying to make the hotel a better standard Mattresses were ok but seemed bit worn
The roebuck is bit out the way for walking into town centre
- Shorten (1/5): -
- Hilary (9/5): Very nice stay in a small pub with great food and friendly service - Very nice building and location. Just been taken over and new owners are doing it up but is already a great place Nothing
- Chris (8/5): - Plenty of carpark space, easy to get to, close to the main highway
- Sophee (7/5): Great location for where we needed to be, clean room very well equipped. - Convenient location and room clean Shower pressure very low, thin walls (could hear neighbouring rooms conversations)
- Martin (8/5): Cheap, clean and pleasant hotel in a key location for visiting local sites. Alcester excellent town, - Great value for money, nice clean hotel, good room - good food (but not a great choice). Town and surroundings excellent, Alcester well worth a visit any time. Good location for a number of sites in the area, and much cheaper than towns such as Stratford and Warwick etc. I was offered breakfast, but no one was around to cook or serve it at 9am (I had not paid for it - so no loss). The remote controls for TV and heater did not seem to work - batteries may have run out).
- Luke (8/5): Very pleasant, if we’re in the area, definitely would stay again. - It was very clean, convenient location, staff were very kind and helpful, the room was a fantastic value for money. The bedding was very clean and very very soft which very comfortable. The bathroom shower was a decent size with shampoo and shower gel available. The food quality was excellent! The mattress was a spring mattress, so was slightly uncomfortable. The menu, some items weren’t available so when we went to order, we had to change what we were having, due to recent change of ownership. The heating was constantly on, so made the room very hot. Valve wasn’t working.
- Chris (3/5): -
- John (1/5): A cardbord box in the park would have been a better choice. - Nothing. There is nothing going for the place – a definite no for anything good. Where do I start? broken, rotten windows that didn't shut properly. Faulty lights that continuously flicker, showers that run slower than my dead grandmother, crusty socks under the bedside, beds that are harder than the mortuary slab and make a sound like a drum when you move, TVs that are hanging off the wall that can only be seen when you're sat on the floor and dust thicker than a slice of super-toasty bread and finally Breakfast and evening meals are available 7 days a week if you class Thursday to Sunday as 7 days.
- Paul (10/5): It was great - Everything Nothings
- becky (3/5): - Not a lot.... There was a bulb out in the side light the bathroom light flickered light it was at a disco there was dirty wall by the heater there was a patch of plaster missing from the wall there was no hair dryer the bed did table was all marked
- Mark (7/5): -
- Stephen (4/5): Not fully functioning. - The room was warm, comfortable and well-supplied. The pub-restaurant appeared to be closed. Needed to phone the proprietor to check in, as the front door was locked (5pm). No breakfast available. Access to the rooms only via the fire escape, and the wrong keys originally supplied for access.
- andrew (1/5): Do not come here . Ever - location good no breakfast or any open bar or meals. This was room only. No reception needed to ring a guy on mobile to get let in. TV hanging off wall, Window broken, Shower non working. Room key and outside access key not fitting locks.
- Andrzej (3/5): -
- Bell (2/5): Cheap, not cheerful,, closed the whole time I was there - Location was perfect, clean room
Good toilet roll On arrival, I was shepherded to my room which was ok. I had a shower and returned to the “restaurant” which was closed. It remained closed for the duration of my stay even though the sign on the outside says it’s open between 12-9.
- Paul (2/5): - The bar and restaurant wasn’t open at all during the two day of our stay. Got there to it being in complete darkness and had to ring a mobile number for someone to check us in.
- James (7/5): Suits my needs - Local and reasonable price for what is offered Waited ages to check in as no one was around.
- Martyn (2/5): -
- David (9/5): Definitely worth a visit. - Very friendly I was treated like a local, nothing was too much trouble. The food and drink were excellent and good value for money. Very easy to find on Google maps. The staircase to the rooms was steep for the older traveller like myself.
- Rachel (5/5): - Car park is simple, outside appearance looks decent but nothing special, inside dining area and bar were the most looked after. Hall to room was simple and plain. Room itself was small but room to move around the bed. Bathroom with toilet sink and shower. Shower pressure was lousy and took a while to work out the right temperature setting and even then had to change it mid shower as it went cold. Worse thing was that I arrived as they were closing (which I had made them aware of) I was simply shown to my room and that was it. Neither light in the bathroom worked so I had a shower with my torch hanging from the ceiling. I also think the room would benefit from some information eg. Fire escape route, assembly point ext. also WiFi was not working at all during my stay, in this modern world that was very disappointing.
- Nathan (2/5): - Freezing cold, no heating, plenty of tea, coffee bottles of water, but no kettle
- Peter (2/5): I would not recommend to anyone. - The property appeared to be closed or closing down. Not a good experience at all. Entry and exit was via a side emergency exit. Had to wait 20 minutes for someone to arrive and open up the property. This was at about 4pm in the afternoon.
- Jo (3/5): -
- Suzanne (5/5): - Good location, car parking, dog friendly. Tea and coffee tray well stocked. Closed on arrival, no food available.small room bad tv signal, had to go in and out through the fire escape.
- Hilary (1/5): Dreadful property and unhelpful staff. Avoid at all costs. - There was nothing to like about The Roebuck Upon our arrival at The Roebuck we were extremely disappointed to discover a number of issues that made it impossible for us to stay. These issues included the room being very cold as was the hallway. An electric fan heater was in the room and was plugged into an extension lead which is a fire hazard. Also there was no space for our cases which would have blocked the door again a fire hazard if we had to leave in an emergency. The window catch was broken, the light above the bathroom mirror was not working and therefore the shaving point did not work. The shower was totally unacceptable as it was filthy. There was no food either evening meal or breakfast as the property was actually closed for business despite the sign outside stating that The Roebuck was open 7 days a week. We feel we were mis-sold and have requested a refund as we were unable to stay and had to find alternative accommodation in the area as we were visiting family following the sudden death of my mother-in-law who lived in Alcester. As of today's date The Roebuck have not responded to our request for a refund and are ignoring our correspondence.
- Alan (3/5): -
- Dan (5/5): -
- Mike (1/5): Closed - it was closed. We sent two members of our team to stay at this pub/hotel, and the experience was completely unacceptable.
Upon arrival, the property was closed. Our employees had to call a phone number in order to gain access. The following morning, the premises were deserted and no breakfast was provided, despite this being advertised on your website.
On the second evening, when they returned to the hotel, the main door was again locked. They called the same phone number and were left waiting outside for approximately 45 minutes before someone arrived and let them in through a fire exit. This is clearly unsafe and raises serious concerns about the legality and safety of operating the premises in this manner. No breakfast was provided again the following morning.
Your website advertises this property as offering full facilities; however, the hotel appears to be effectively closed. Being forced to wait outside late at night and enter through a fire exit is completely unacceptable and could have put our staff at risk.

- IAIN (8/5): I found the Roebuck Inn to be a great option for a short stay. - Small comfortable room for one night & a good full English breakfast.
- Jools (8/5): -
- Linda (3/5): Staff were lovely and friendly and food was very good. Just needs a little TLC - Very run down needs a bit of updating Extension lead to plug anything in. The unit in the room had all paint over it.
- Tommy (8/5): -
- Mark (1/5): If you don’t mind not being able to sleep then this is the place for you, however if you have to get up for work then I - The stay was that traumatising I can’t think of a positive to report Where do I start :- the bed was like it was made from cardboard
I injured myself on the loo seat, cheap flimsy plastic- (should come with a pinch warning)
The smallest tv in the room that insistently had one channel!
- Rob (3/5): A clearly once nice establishment on the slippery slope to oblivion. Sad to see. - No reception. Key just left on bar. No staff. Pub closed. Room unclean, blocked sink, flickering light.
- Harvey (1/5): Very disappointed, not what I expected. Will not use again - Paid in advance for breakfast but nobody was in the hotel to cook and no staff on duty, had to return to complain about standard of service. Hotel was closed at 2030hrs on our return from a function, in complete darkness and no staff.
- David (1/5): Terrible. - Absolutely nothing. It was closed and you just left a note on a side window (so you say). Absolutely hopeless.
- Lauren (10/5): Cozy and friendly - Very kind and friendly staff, we felt very welcome. Lovely room, very cosy.
- Paul (6/5): Convenient location and easy to find. Road not busy so traffic noise not a problem. Fit for purpose - Did not have breakfast No light in bathroom
Sash window did not stay open to cool room down, so propped it up with a tea cup
No remote control for TV
- Christine (5/5): - It had the basic requirements , tra making , shower gels, hot water etc Bar had no atmosphere, Saturday night was empty .
Room dated and very, very small . Musty smell in shower area.
- Pete (8/5): Recommended - Privacy The Internet was a bit hit and miss
- Nicky (5/5): Functional but a bit grim - Bathroom of a decent standard, small, clean and plenty of hot water Room was small, tired, grey, functional, curtain rail hanging to one side, one bedside lamp not working and potentially dangerous, beds just about ok, walls and ceiling very thin, could hear conversations and toilets being used. View from window of abandoned chairs, rough grease and old fencing. Only one milk capsule available so unable to make use of tea or coffee. Decided not to bother with breakfast. All a bit grim really, not like the photos.

- Margaret (7/5): - The location was good. I was met by a friendly manager. The accommodation was comfortable. The accommodation seemed as if it lacked life. The hotel was all locked up when I arrived at 4.30pm. The friendly manager let me in after I rang the mobile number listed. I dropped my stuff off. Returned at 9.15pm. All locked up again. Still locked up in the morning at 9.00am and nobody around. I have looked up online and this would be in the pattern of opening hours but it left a weird scary feeling with me so I won’t stay there again.
- David (9/5): -
- joanne (1/5): Terrible - Nothing, despite booking hotel was locked up when we got there All of it
- Jack (3/5): -
- Karen (1/5): Iit needs a deep clean. Fire hazard. Booking. Com needs to look into it. It will cost you at the end - My family had to wait outside the house for half hour trying to call someone, we had travelled a long way it was raining and extremely cold. Eventually we got in using the fire escape which was slippy and dark. I had my 2 fur babies that had to climb these stairs nearly falling as my girl is a baby and scared of everything little Staffordshire bull territory. The manager didn't like my babies moaning on mobile talking shut. Charged me £100 for them. Room small for a double, no food or option to get any although it is apparently a restaurant shops miles away no car. Shops shut so all starving. Restaurant closed all 7 days. Had to go to town to get food. Every where shut 8.0 asked for coffee satchels gave m3 3. And a tea bag. I am so disappointed as this was my babies first holiday. They hated it we had one litter double bed to share. I am trying to get a refund as the manager said I was smoking marijuina, I have arithus and fibermyalgia in my fingers which really hurt especially this weather, I was smoking a vape flavoured. 2 days we were there due to his calls not come to my door. No the cleaner that could hardly understand me said I had been smoking. I did vape. It doesn't say NO VAPEs. So out of our nightmare 7 days holiday we got 2. It needs closings down a good scrub the tv was hanging of the wall downwards so couldn't see much. A basic kettle. It's a arctic room so guaranteed to bang your head of it on the left hand side. The cleaning room all open. It's a dive. It has a bar that also was closed the whole time. I asked for a drink several occasions, no not open. The reastrant had lots of dirty dishes on the table, even though it was closed. Reastrant and bar filthy, I Strongly advise Booking. Com and other agencies to take the hotel of your books. At least until he gets official cleans in. The worst holiday of my life. Stay away and he didn't like my babies so that also needs changing. Total Hazardous fire escape the only exit in and out for every one. It's dangerous. The whole place needs a deep clean before anyone stays. It's basic shut whole. The tv could fall on you to. It has a little table one chair and coat hangers hanging of a piece of wood. I should have checked the reviews shurley I'm not the only one that thinks this, I wasted over £500 on that holiday were devastated I'm still angry about this. I have heath problems dont need to be dealing with this shit after a holiday . I'm sure as a new customer to Booking. Com they don't want this either. Although Booking. Com have taken a long time dealing with this. This was my second choice I booked one paid for it,then sorry not available. That was probably last months just got it back yesterday. So I am now going through the same process of getting at least half my money back and my fur babies mony £20 night, I hope Booking. Com can sort something out.
- Michele Jones (9/5): Great pub and hotel with friendly staff - Booked 3 rooms for a group of friends as we were attending an event in a nearby village.
Rooms were small but very clean and comfortable and had everything we required, tea, coffee etc and the rooms looked to be newly refurbished.
We had prebooked Sunday lunch there, as there was a group of 8 of us, including another couple who had booked separately to us, and it was very nice, with very generous portions.
Staff were all friendly and the full English breakfast was freshly cooked and served by the chef and was delicious and good value.
Breakfast needs to be pre-ordered the night before, as it only for residents, and our group of 8 were the only ones eating that morning, hence the chef doing it all, but it was a very pleasant experience.
This is looking like being an annual event and we would definitely be booking the Roebuck again as it was perfect for our 1 night stay. Nothing really, maybe the road noise from the heavy traffic, early on the Monday morning could disturb light sleepers, but that's not the Hotel's fault, and it didn't really bother us, although I was aware of it.
- James (7/5): - Clean and comfortable bed. Good value for the price Shower water pressure a bit weak
- Marcus (7/5): Very good value. Great staff. - Staff. You get what you pay for. It was very good value.
- Mark (9/5): Don’t expect 5 star but value for money place to stay that is hard to beat - Very welcoming & friendly staff, clean room with all facilities.
Tremendous value for money, plenty of parking. Mohammed & the chef were superb.
- peter (4/5): - Food Accommodation
- Peter (1/5): Impossible wasn’t there long enough. - Absolutely nothing walked in looked at the room and walk straight back out. Everything. Please don’t stay here even if you’re desperate.
- Howden (3/5): -
- sam jack (1/5): -
- Chris (5/5): Pub seems shut but a cheap clean well located room - The location and price were good. The pub itself seems to be shut - no food or drink in the evening and no option for breakfast. The place was deserted apart from one other pair of guests. The sound proofing was poor - the snoring from the room above did annoy me.
- Kirsty (1/5): Avoid - Nothing Nothing as advertised on booking.com
Flight was delayed so arrived after 9pm and couldn't check in. Had to pay for alternative accommodation. Checked in next day after 3pm. No meals available Mon or Tuesday and bar closed. Told it would be open the next day. We were the only guests. The WiFi was for personal use and couldn't connect and even with password access was denied. Had to buy more data. There was no milk or biscuits apart from the only day of 4 that room was serviced and the horrible bobbly duvet cover was changed to a slightly nicer but stained one. Toilet paper ran out and no one to ask for more. Shower grout was stained brown.
- Graham (5/5): Passable - just - Rooms were generally clean and tidy. Lack of tv remote (until we asked)
No wifi details mad available
Bed, pillows and duvat seem poor quality
Mattress was very poor.
- Sally (3/5): -
- Sarah (5/5): - It was warm and comfortable Room was small, coffee cups were tiny. Stayed 2 nights but had no replacement coffee/sugar. Was a bit too far out from the high street.
- Ashley (5/5): -
- Paul (3/5): Below standard. - Not much Broken window that didnt close properly. Heater that didn’t work. Wi-Fi didnt work. No hot water in sink although shower was ok but couldn’t have a shave.
- Martin (8/5): Road trip - Friendly staff, good parking, convenient location, good food It was chilly in the dining room.
- Susan (4/5): Ok for the price - The bar and restaurant are fairly newly kitted out, very nice.
Great parking The bedroom very small and tired furnishings. Not a great smell along the corridor
- Jane (6/5): - Good location. Very small room. WiFi didnt work.
- Della (10/5): Very pleasant stay - Very friendly staff breakfast was lovely
- Chris (3/5): -
- Philip (5/5): Felt strange boing the only people in the inn over night - Very good Shortage of staff
- John (8/5): Comfortable short stay with good breakfast - Good full English breakfast. Helpful staff, comfortable stay
- Jones (8/5): - Great location Tea and coffee making facility in room BUT no milk.
Didn't spoil the stay though
- Tracey (2/5): - Location We stayed at this hotel last year! What,a difference hotel was empty restaurant not open, closed before 9pm on a Saturday night had to use steep metal staircase to get into our room not suitable if have mobility issues. Heating on in our room when it's summer. Will not stay here again
- Breeda (6/5): -
- Rebecca (5/5): - Conveniently situated. Pub didn’t open until 12 so there wasn’t anybody around for help prior to this. Wasn’t sure what to do at checkout so just left the key on the bar. Was okay with this but if it’s the done thing would’ve liked a heads up. Hallway leading to room didn’t smell very pleasant.
- Stearn (9/5): -
- nick (6/5): - Staff friendly and helpful. We didn't eat but the menu looked good and Sunday lunchtime looked busy. No chest of draws no netting on windows which wasn't helpful next to a main road, tv didn't work.
The place closes early (we were back 10.00 Saturday night )and. had to be let in, same Sunday night, even earlier 7.00.
- Shannon (10/5): Little heavenly stay in Alcester - Lovely room, lovely staff, such a cosy environment. Great value for money and great location for what I needed. As soon as I walked in, I was greeted warmly by all staff members and was shown to my room. The staff explained all my queries I had and the room was adorable. Plenty of towels provided, cosy bed and a lovely shower. I will absolutely be using this location to stay again! Nothing
- Alan (4/5): Better options available elsewhere. - The room had recently been re-furbed and was clean and tidy. The room was very compact with doors opening onto each other. Although a pub/restaurant there was no bar or food available at all during our stay. The town was approx one mile distant.
- Kristian (5/5): Ok for an overnight stay, any longer I would consider alternative larger local hotel group when staying in Alcester agai - Clean rooms and towels. Bar / restaurant area being refurbished during my stay so not all facilities were available, if I would have been advised this I would have stayed elsewhere. Poor communication took two messages to request an earlier check in which was sadly declined.
- Francis (5/5): convenience let down by shoddy security - Helpful chef cooked breakfast to order Idiot bar staff issued wrong set of master keys to another guest that resulted in intrusion into my locked bedroom after \I had retired for the night + night access via emergency exit left swinging in the breeze after someone's noisy exit at 6AM.
Found fire door chocked open on my arrival - unwise
- Martin (9/5): Superb - Kim was an amazing host. Nothing was too much trouble and she has a lovely way with people. Excellent value for money and we would definitely return. The bed was really comfortable (they have obviously listened to previous feedback).
- Melanie (8/5): Very good -
- Chris (8/5): Very good -
- Jeanette (1/5): A bad hotel experience made worse by booking.com - The girl working behind the bar was helpful. We refused to stay. The room was shabby, the bed linen was grubby, the window was screwed partially open and was rotten, the tv was hanging off the wall, the toilet had not been flushed, you could hear music from the next room and the bed was like a solid block. The owner offered a full refund because we did not stay. Unfortunately, we have not received this yet because booking.com are only offering 50% of it. We are still fighting for all of our money back. They have made a bad experience much worse and really need to review their customer service.
- Mary (1/5): So disappointing!! - We loved the location and the pub was lovely. We arrived at approximately 4.45pm after a long day at the ragley game fayre. We were reasurred from the website that the pub was open all day and food was served till 9pm. However, not the case, we were told the pub was closing at 5.30pm and that there was no food available because they had "run out." As you can imagine, we were really disappointed, worn out after a long day of walking and no food or a beer. We were told there wasn't any taxis close by and that it was a 10 minute walk to town (not far, but it is when you've been on your feet since 9am). We walked to town, the only place open for food was the Indian restaurant, thank God! The barman recommended a pub in town because that's where he was going after closing the pub. We have our daughter over from New Zealand, and this was her first taste of English hospitality, ruined our trip.
- Diane (5/5): Ok for one night as long as they are open! - Bed was very comfortable, room was ok for the price we paid. It was ok for one night stays.
Nice breakfast. We arrived after a day at the game fair expecting a few drinks and and a nice meal. The menu on the website looked really nice and they had good food reviews so we were looking forward to a nice evening. We arrive at about 6 only to be told they werent serving food as there wasnt any left (?) and because of that they were also closing the bar. If we had known this we would not have stayed here.
We had a quick drink then walked into town which was about 15 minutes as we had been told by a member of staff that there were lots of places to eat. Nowhere was open, except an Indian which in the end turned out to be lovely (would highly recommend) but we had traipsed around for about an hour before going there. We had been on our feet all day and just wanted a few drinks and a nice meal and then to go to bed.
When we got back to the room we wanted showers. The shower was rubbish. There was no water pressure and it came out like a trickle.
Got up the next morning, went for breakfast, there was no table laid for us, but there was one for some other people that were staying there so I think they had forgotten about us. The tables and carpet were still dirty from the night before so we werent that keen but we were the only ones there so felt we had to stay. There was no breakfast menu but we were asked what we wanted and to be fair when it eventually came it was nice. The chef had done her best for us but it was obvious we had been forgotten.
