Guest Reviews
- David (10/5): - Location was very good. Room was spacious and clean. Gardens were so beautiful. I do recommend this place and will love to come back.
- Allison (10/5): Great wee overnight stay… perfect place for chilling out after a long drive - Beautiful historical building; stunning grounds; great local pubs 5 minutes walk away… staff extremely friendly and made you feel very welcome 🤗 Nothing
- Kariana (8/5): Friendly staff in lovely location. - Great location, friendly staff, late check in, quiet, cool building, nice and warm, good shower, great views at breakfast Beds and pillows were ok, mattress on the soft side (personally preference I prefer harder)
- Billing (10/5): Lovely return visit to Cober Hill. - Lovely gardens, delicious full English breakfast, amazing views, and friendly helpful staff
- lynn (2/5): If you like run down old hostels this is for you. - This property was advertised as a hotel and is far short of that, it is a hostel. The place has probably not been renovated since the 70’s. The carpets were badly stained. The plumbing was appalling and rust marks all over the bath. They had the audacity to charge £100 per night for this shambles of a place.
- Penny (7/5): Ok - Breakfast is served very late.. a continental breakfast at ..say..7am or even a 'collect' the night before would suit walkers better. The late breakfast see above
- James (9/5): Lovely place. Ideal for a short trip. Staff very friendly and accommodated our request -
- catriona (8/5): -
- Richard (10/5): - Great views
- Leeanne (10/5): -
- Victoria (10/5): - The staff went above and beyond to help with recommendations and advice for my mam, she would have struggled without them. I was unable to join the party due to injury and they made the whole experience great for my mam and children.
- Janet (9/5): All we wanted - Everything
- David (10/5): - Lovely place to stay, warm friendly welcome, cosy room, smashing breakfast, wish we had time to walk the gardens ,will be back at some point
- Jon (8/5): Comfortable quiet stay - Quiet location, comfortable beds, light, airy room, good breakfast. Couple of repairs required in communal areas
- Reed (10/5): a❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️ - we were walking the tinder track and coba hill was right on track every thing was excellent and fully met our needs
- Therese (7/5): Excellent short break to the coast without the commercialism of scarborough - Rural and easy access to the coastal path
- Deya (10/5): - Staff are amazing!!
- Raymond (9/5): -
- carter (10/5): Good good and good - All of it
- Tim (8/5): Thoroughly relaxing and comfortable. Like a pair of much loved slippers. - Stunning history and setting. Slightly tired. Traditional hotel with exceptionally friendly and helpful staff. Great value. We didn’t mind a big old house showing its age and signs of being a money pit to maintain. It was really nicely kept but a long way from pristine condition.
- Phil (10/5): - Best breakfast- we all agreed it was great Nothing
- carol (8/5): All in all it was a very enjoyable stay. - Very peaceful place. All staff were very helpful especially the gardener he gave us information on places to visit as my husband cannot walk far. We took our dog and was in the conservatory to eat which was fine, other people with dogs were in the main dining room, we were ok in the other room but felt a little inferior, but liked the conservatory, it just seemed some can and some can not, i am not grumbling but it was asked. when i come again i would be happy in the conservatory.
- Simona (8/5): -
- Patricia (10/5): Our stay was very enjoyable and nothing was too much trouble for the staff! - Breakfast was excellent! Amazing choice. Staff very helpful and friendly. Facilities eg.communal rooms to relax in, bedrooms fully equipped and comfortable. Extensive grounds and activities for children exceptionall! Signage from the road. Easy to miss on a first visit. More info re parking in information received prior to arrival.
- Helen (10/5): A lucky find, great hotel, excellent breakfast, good room rates. - The hotel was amazing, a very distinct property, very pleasant staff, excellent breakfast, varied range of activities available, beautiful gardens. Couldn’t fault the hotel at all.
Perfect.
A lucky find.
- Theresa (10/5): - Such friendly and helpful staff. Beautiful surroundings. Really clean. Nice breakfast.
We stayed as going to Scarborough Spa. Needed to get a taxi to and from, but good taxi firm used and wasn't that expensive between 3 of us. Liked it all.
- Michelle (10/5): Fantastic stay, thank you Sue & Gary, will definitely look to book again! - Beautiful countryside location, so peaceful.
The staff were amazing especially Sue, who went out of her way to make sure we had all we needed and enjoyed our stay. Gary also made us feel so welcome, told us where the best viewing spot was. Ideal place to go to concert in Scarborough then come back & chill. Nothing
- sandra (7/5): Cober hill lovely staff and food and area, missed the television.. - The food was very good. The grounds were well kept. The village was on the bus route to Scarborough and Whitby. A television in the room
- Martin (8/5): Nice quiet location and beautiful grounds - Very quiet location, lovely grounds Mattress was rock hard
- Amanda (10/5): -
- Karen (10/5): A real gem of a find - We loved it, unlike anything we'd stayed in before, More than a hotel. Lots to explore, enjoy, contemplate. A bit of a trek with 2 dogs to the room through all the fire doors etc - but really nit picking here! Honestly it was lovely!
- melissa (8/5): Perfect 👌 - Beautiful house and grounds. Basic rooms but very clean and we had a sea view so perfect just not luxurious.
- Mary (9/5): Lovely quiet stay, with friendly, helpful staff . Would like to return - Lovely friendly staff. Great breakfast. Beautiful, characterful property with excellent view and lovely gardens & outdoor facilities including croquet lawn. Milk pouches for tea making facilities in rooms were awkward to open! Needed scissors.
Bed bases in our room were quite creaky/wobbly , though they were comfortable- just noisy.
- Padmore (8/5): Great stay! - Excellent gardens, excellent breakfast, the kids loved the play parks and tennis courts. Seaview from the breakfast room was lush. Quiet - no late night slamming of doors or noise. Would definitely go back. Rooms are dated, WiFi is patchy.
- Ahmed (9/5): Very nice hotel for holidays - Very nice hotel for holidays

- Paul (8/5): - Very clean and great staff! Food was lovely and the property has some lovely views.
- Amanda (10/5): -
- Betty (8/5): - Great location with a very tasty breakfast having good quality ingredients. The beds were really comfy and very clean. Did miss a TV though. Just the fact no TV .
- John d'auria (10/5): - location v peaceful parking nothing
- Margaret (9/5): Very good. -
- Natalia (6/5): - Nice place. The sea was visible from the windows. I arrived in an electric car and asked for charging. I was not told that it was paid and how much it cost. I charged the car twice, but only for a little. The first time for about an hour, the second time for about 6 hours. Charging is slow, so I did not use much electricity. But when I left, they told me to pay 25 pounds. I think they should have told me about this in advance. I would not have charged there then.
- Sebastian (10/5): -
- Judith (8/5): Very comfortable and great atmosphere - House was lovely
Friendly staff Some of the grounds were very neglected and overgrown especially the secret garden…could not use the steps as they were completely covered in weeds …please try and keep the grounds in order as they are a huge draw
- Lindsay (10/5): Fabulous location - Lovely comfy room and sea view! Shower warmish
- Andrew (1/5): Rubbish wont stay again, dirty room - Nothing Room dirty, full of spiders and flies, bedding dirty
- Eileen (10/5): Great location, stunning gardens, friendly staff. - Location was perfect for getting to the open air theatre. Staff were really friendly and helpful. Grounds were stunning to walk around and enjoyed a walk down to the beach before leaving. Nothing. Everything was spot on.
- Amanda (10/5): Fabulous! - Fabulous location. Beautiful, peaceful surroundings. Attention to detail. Most polite and helpful staff. Thankyou to everyone making Cober Hill so very lovely. Cannot identify anything disliked.
- John (10/5): -
- Maria (7/5): - Open space good area, parking room .... Had to go off the site to smoke
- Brown (10/5): -
- Brockbank (10/5): Will be back. - Fabulous breakfast, we brought our own black pudding, was ready for us when we came down, tinned tomatoes which i love, fried bread excellent and no hash browns, hash browns don't belong on breakfast. Thought my bed was a bit soft, but personal preference that's all,got to cater for the majority not the minority.
- michelle (6/5): Lovely location but the beds needs attention /upgrades - It’s clean and the staff were all lovely.
The setting is very pretty and the location was lovely. The rooms are basic and dated.
The bed I had was really uncomfortable, I was tempted at one point to take my pillow and blanket and go sleep on sofa downstairs. (I’m not usually fussy about beds but my back couldn’t cope)
- Deborah (10/5): - Lovely comfy bed and pillows. Spacious clean room and excellent breakfast. Very friendly staff. Would come again and would highly recommend. Nothing to dislike
- Michele (8/5): -
- John (7/5): Clean and friendly - Breakfast very good. Room comfortable. Shower hot No tv in room
- Andrea (8/5): Good value stay, a few miles outside of Scarborough. - It is in a beautiful old building set in 11 acres of lovely gardens. Rooms basic but clean and spacious. Ours had a sea view. Breakfast fairly basic but well cooked and adequate. There are a pipe/chimney of sorts, that ran up the back wall adjacent to our room that was very noisy. Windows not double glazed. Room 9 on first floor.
- Ian (7/5): -
- Tracy (8/5): -
- Jason (8/5): Clean, hot shower, parking, lovely settings - Nice clean single room with hot shower. Lovely hotel and relaxing setting. Great breakfast with vege sausages. Plenty parking and two disabled spots. Didn't realise the door to the room didn't lock automatically when leaving. Key must be used.
- Meggan (9/5): -
- Claudia (8/5): A lovely building and location but basic room facilities. - Friendly, helpful staff.
Good choice for breakfast and good service.
Great building and lovely grounds.
Close to both Scarborough and Whitby- good location and lots of parking. Facilities in room a bit frugal- one bath sheet between 2 people and limited toilet paper. Presumably you can ask for more, but you shouldn't have to!
Hoovering not picking up other peoples hairs.
Room pretty basic, but okay.
No TV which they clearly state, although it would be nice as an option for some rooms.
- Gray (10/5): Blissful! Recommend 100%!! - There was a good selection for breakfast. The location was perfect and a sea view too! Fantastic all round! There was nothing i didn't like about my stay up there. It was perfect for me!
- Lynne (10/5): I came for a painting course and it was the perfect setting. - Hotel quiet and relaxing. Refreshing to have no TV but good WiFi. The grounds are very well kept and interesting. Breakfast was served on time and a decent variety of food. Nil
- Myles (10/5): -
- Dr Sachin Goyal (9/5): Nice place to stay for a weekend - Location, very big property, lovely gardens, lots of activities can be done, close to the coast, good breakfast. Beds were very small for 2 people, not so comfortable.
- Joanne (10/5): - Staff very friendly and helpful, location fantastic, large rooms and very clean and comfortable
- Yasmine (8/5): Serene and laidback. - Great breakfast and amazing location. More seating at meal times, we couldn’t find seats in the main dining area so sat outside instead (luckily in lovely weather).
- Graeme (7/5): - Location , gardens, friendly staff Coffee at breakfast needs work
- philip (8/5): Excellent value for money. - Extremely good value for money. Breakfast was great. Good location. Would recommend. There was nothing we didn’t like. We needed somewhere not too expensive for an overnight stay and this exceeded our expectations.
- Richard (10/5): Lovely place, would stay again. - Lovely place, well looked after, quiet and welcoming. Bed was comfy. Room was spacious. No real issues. Breakfast was nice, cooked properly and still hot even though it was a buffet style breakfast. Single bed felt a little smaller than a standard, but was comfy. Arrived to breakfast at 9am but no single tables available. Had to wait about 20 minutes to be able to get a table.
- Susan (10/5): Fabulous - Location was great
Staff very friendly
The gardens were immaculate and obviously well cared for
Lovely breakfast
Very peaceful Nothing to dislike
- Izzy (8/5): - Clean, lovely breakfast, lovely location Sink in the room - prefer it to be in the bathroom. Slightly outdated.
- Stephen (8/5): -
- Fiona (8/5): -
- Nick (10/5): - Staff were brilliant and went above and beyond to help make sure our stay was perfect.
- Paul (8/5): -
- Michael (10/5): -
- Calum (8/5): Comfy - The staff were super friendly and the bed was super comfy. Clean rooms and spacious. Breakfast had great choice and was tasty. Ample parking space. Not too far at all from Scarborough or Whitby. Only a small dislike, but obviously enough to write it. The choir practice happening in one of the hired rooms the two days we were there disturbed the quietness, which was a shame. The repetitiveness of the style of singing was a tad too much and prevented us from resting in our room. Would definitely stay again, just would make sure i wasn't in my room/hotel at the time of choir practice!
- John (8/5): -
- Debrah (10/5): -
- Cherisse (10/5): Lovely grounds great for families - Breakfast was lovely plenty on offer attentive staff
- Karen (8/5): My first visit since I was 6 years old!! - When we arrived ,there was such a warm welcome from front of house gentleman .
Lovely gardens and activities! No tv in the room.s!
- Worthington (7/5): Pleasant - We stayed here last year and we were impressed with the staff and the breakfast menu, We didn't mind that there was no TV's in the room as it made a nice change Our room in particular was really dusty. Also I was unaware that the room would not be cleaned each day. We were only asked if we needed more tea, milk coffee
- richard (9/5): Lovely welcoming property. - Lovely place to stay. Every aspect was great, staff were very helpful and breakfast was great too. Only downside was we only stayed one night. 😊
- Alexander (8/5): - Room was lovely, in a good condition. Breakfast was good with a wide variety
- Tracy (4/5): Would not return. - Location Rooms very very basic - sorry but had the feel of an old people’s home rather than a hotel. Water that we had to use to make a drink was awful - meaning tea was undrinkable. Bottled water should have been provided. Also would have been nice (if tea had been drinkable) to have had biscuits in the room. Breakfast was also quite basic and not good quality ingredients. Sausages were not pleasant. Expected better for the price.
- Steven (9/5): -
- Paul (8/5): -
- Dan (9/5): - Great location and very peaceful and relaxing
- Luke (10/5): -
- chrisofmiddleton (8/5): Pleasant, clean and value for money -
- Janine (9/5): Thoroughly enjoyable, we will be returning - The children loved the games room. For us it’s the safety and the freedom the grounds provide for the children.
- Diane (8/5): - Loved the location. The room was very spacious and the double aspect windows made it feel light. The breakfast was delicious and the staff were friendly and very helpful. I was told to turn the radiators on to work the heating. Both radiators were on fully, but the heating did not come on at any point, so the room was a bit cold in the morning, but overall, a lovely stay.
- Michael (7/5): A nice relaxing stay. - Great location.
Quiet, friendly, clean, comfortable
Great breakfasts. Single bed was too narrow. Curtains were too light and I had security light shining into my room all night. On first day no hot water from sink tap and cold tap splashed all over my jumper.
- Amanda (7/5): - Room was clean and bed was comfortable. Room really needed blackout curtains. Sun shone through current curtains early in the morning. Also breakfast is at 8.30. Would be great if it could be 8.30 to 10am.
- Sandra (9/5): - The staff were lovely, helpful and friendly. The grounds are beautiful. Lots to do and see with lovely views. Breakfast was excellent. Nothing not to like. Nothing
