Guest Reviews
- james (7/5): The cottage gave us good independence for our family visit. The bedrooms upstairs were functional, but access was tricky - The location was good for our purposes The stairs to the bedroom, typical of an old cottage
- Mark (9/5): - Clean, central location close to the village centre, pretty village with some lovely historic buildings, interesting large shared garden space Nothing
- Kelsie (10/5): - I booked last minute (on the day) and was very happy. Was nice to find some cards and dominos that me and my partner enjoyed.
The cottage was clean throughout, warm & cozy. On street parking and really peaceful, quiet area.

- Kasia (10/5): - Lovely little cottage.
- Loraine (10/5): Perfect short break, beautiful property. - The history and location. Considering the size of the property having 3 bedrooms, two of which comfortable doubles. Decoration throughout was beautiful. Two bathrooms with a shower and bath option was excellent. Worth mentioning it was bitterly cold weather but the heating was more than adequate, we were lovely and warm! No fault found at all. I had been worried about roadside parking, but we easily parked outside the property.
- Fiona (9/5): - Cottage in a good location with essential shops only a few minutes walk away. Cottage itself was very warm & cosy in February. Kitchen well equipped allowing us to prep and cook meals. Would definately stay here again if in the area & have no hesitation in recommending it. Temperature of water flow through shower was a little sensitive, ie. it took a while to go hot then if adjusted slightly could go very hot or very cold.
- Mark (6/5): Ok stayed at a lot worse places - It was average the local shops, pubs and takeaways? We’re all very close and good. we enjoyed our stay, but there were a few things that could’ve been better not saying we wouldn’t go again. The bed was small and the sink in the bathroom was too high and could be dangerous for kids if the water came over the top as it was very shallow!! The furniture was very well used and in some cases broken!! Not been derogative but just lazy and constructive criticism generally speaking location and everything else was quite well catered for !
- Emma (10/5): Exceptional - Amazing hosts! Couldn't do enough for us and when we had a small issue they were there within minutes. Lovely stay and such a beautiful home with lots of character.
- Alison (8/5): -
- Mark (10/5): Perfect cottages in a village setting - The village is lovely, people very friendly, lots of country walks… We enjoyed a lovely stay & the cottages were only 10 minutes away from a family wedding venue. Our family stayed in three lovely properties in the village, Papist Hall Cottages were beyond our expectations. Beautifully presented throughout, clean & with all the facilities for a comfortable stay. Cosy lounge in the evening complete with a log burner. We all thoroughly enjoyed our stay. Rob & Ellie (the owners) are really helpful & welcoming. Thank you Julie, Mark & Our wider family
- April (10/5): - Property was perfect for our stay. Great communication from the owners. Would definitely stay again
- Jane (10/5): Fantastic family stay - It was a lovely cottage and everything was perfect and a lovely touch with the welcome hamper. The location was great for visiting hull and the deep. There wasn't a thing I would change
- elizabeth (10/5): - A very comfortable and historic property in a lovely village.
- Joshua (9/5): -
- Marion (9/5): Really enjoyed being there. So much better than expected - Good location Property was very clean comfortable & welcoming The private garden was so appreciated with the warm weather Nothing
- Giselle (10/5): Beautiful, peaceful, tranquil! - Beautiful cottage with stunning gardens, owners were so helpful & easy to communicate with ! Nothing
- Steven (9/5): Superb -
- Sarah (9/5): Wonderful cottages! Highly recommend - This is such a gem! We came with family and took two cottages at the same time. Such an interesting building and amazing gardens. We loved it. Clean, very comfortable, super decor. We loved it and will definitely be back.
- Eleanor (9/5): Lovely - The cottage was lovey, really enjoyed our stay!
Perfect hosts with great communication ☺️ The only gripe would be the double bed in the small bedroom with the little window, the bed was noisy but otherwise comfortable
- Anna (9/5): A beautiful spacious cottage in a lovely little village - Lovely cottages with a lot of space in a pretty little village. The beds were comfortable and the decor was beautiful. We will definitely use this place again. And dogs were welcome which is important to us!
- Sarah (9/5): Lovely stay - Lovely property with great history. Clean throughout with good facilities.
- Kenny (8/5): Very enjoyable stay at Priests Abode! :-) - A lovely little quaint property in a great location. The garden was very large and secure for dogs and brilliant to relax in for a few hours in the sunshine!
Parking was easy and free which was a bonus! A nice area to have a walk around and a couple of close local pub's The property was very clean and access was easy as the key was in a lock box. I would visit again and would recommend too. Although mentioned in the listing the stairs are extremely steep so would be a problem if you have mobility issues.
The mattress was a bit too soft for us but the bed was clean and comfy-
The shower was extremely hot and easy to regulate but wasn't the most powerful.
- Lauren (10/5): Lovely, quaint cottage that allowed us to visit family whilst having our own space! - The property was quaint, homely and had everything you would need for your stay. The beds were exceptionally comfy! So much so, I had to email and ask what mattresses they were so we can purchase our own. The property was clean on arrival and even though it's on a high street, there was always parking. The house is very compact but if you are not planning to spend all day in then it's the perfect base! We will definitely be booking again for our future visits. I cannot think of anything that would have improved our stay!
- Linda (8/5): Pleasant and looking forward to our next visit - Sympathetically restored yet modern The steep stairs to upstairs and the big steps in and out
- Becky (10/5): Exceptional - everything excellent clean and perfect perfect
- Mn (9/5): A sensitively restored period property, well equipped, warm and excellent hosts. - The sensitive rennovation of the property made it quite "quirky" but very comfortable. Despite being a very cold week the property was always warm. It is was well furnished and equipped. A little more information in the propertry notes would be helpful especially regarding the television controls and access to a washing machine.
- Melody (10/5): Exceptional - The Cottage is Beautiful.Clean, Unique and Cosy. The fireplace and the dining area, was the best part, Spacious rooms. Comfortable beds. We requested a Cot and Host went an extra mile providing brand new bedding. Great communication with the Host. I will definitely stay here again.
- John (8/5): Very good -
- Louise (5/5): Passable -
- Jonathan (10/5): Exceptional - The cottage was perfect for our stay. I was working and on a course and my partner was able to work from home in the cottage using the WiFi. There is an amazing garden which was perfect for our dog and there was another little park 100 yards up the road. Pubs, takeaways and cafes all within a minutes walk. The cottage had everything you would need for a long or short stay and the mattress was incredibly comfortable.
The hosts are friendly and always quick to respond to any questions.
- Alexandru (10/5): Exceptional -
- Robbins (10/5): Grade two listed features meets gorgeous modern twists. Loved it. - The cottage is stunning with perfect little touches everywhere. The log burner was a great feature that we loved. Very clean and tidy throughout. The bed was amazingly comfortable. The owners were extremely helpful and welcoming. We would definitely stay here again. There isn’t anything we didn’t like.
- Lisa (9/5): I would highly recommend. - Lovely stay at the Abbotts Cottage. The cottage was spacious, quirky and a was a home from home.
- Julian (10/5): Would have happily stayed longer. - All round excellent. Very Comfortable, Very Clean. Very quiet location, with a great pub and shop within walking distance. A colleague and I were there for work, I would happily book again. The TV signal wasnt great (who cares!).
- Maggie (10/5): A comfortable welcoming cottage. - It is a lovely cosy cottage and very comfortable. Great communication with the hosts and easy to park. Nothing at all.
- Lloyd (9/5): Superb - Great place great location, clean , tidy good value for money. Shower was a bit temperamental hard to get it to stay at a nice temperature. Took us a while to realise that the hot and cold were actually opposite. But appart from that one thing it was great.
- William (9/5): Historical place to stay. - I liked the history of the building which added to the atmosphere. It has been sympathetically restored recently by the current owner and has retained many of the original features into modern comforts. The fireplaces, wooden panelling, beamed ceilings blend well with the brown wood furniture and modern seating and large tv with streaming. There’s a wood burning stove which we didn’t get to use in the hot weather! Interesting gardens at the rear which were nice to sit out in. Lovely comfortable double bedroom plus a second bedroom with a large bunk bed. And it’s a very quiet location. Parking outside in the high street was not a problem. A lovely peaceful unspoiled village with a co-op open seven days 7.00-22.00hrs. The owners work hard to make his a delight to stay.
- Kieron (10/5): Couldn't ask for anything else. - Brilliant location for a holiday or simply for work like ourselves.
Fantastic comfy beds I slept like a baby.
Fully modern kitchen with a co-op up the road to buy ingredients.
Rob was a good host and the place was great.
- Carrie (10/5): Beautiful, relaxing and homely - Everything about this property is high quality. From the building to the decoration and furnishing. It's spacious but cosy. Parking was easy. Access was easy. Hosts lovely and contactable. It felt very homely instead of the uncomfortable b&b cheaper feel of other places. The patio and enclosed garden was perfect for a potter too.
